“Sneaky”

April 29th, 2020

Talkin’ Bucs.

Joe would normally find this interesting. Coming from who it is coming from, it gives one pause.

The notorious Colin Cowherd, who likes to brag he’s not interested in accuracy, only being interesting, rattled off his top-ten teams in the post-free agency, post-draft time of the year.

Just to give you an idea of his list, he has the Broncos at No. 10. The Broncos made a lot of interesting moves this offseason and sure did get serious speed at wide receiver in the draft.

Cowherd has the Bucs in the top-ten as well.

“Sneaky,” Cowherd began. “They won four of their last six last year despite Jameis Winston’s turnovers. They add Brady, Rob Gronkowski and I thought they had a great draft. … Again, they played very well at the end of last year.”

So where does Cowherd have the Bucs ranked? No. 7.

That’s fair. Joe is still spooked about the running game. If the Bucs can get as much heat on the passer as they did in those final six games, the defense should be just fine.

Remember, the Bucs had one of the best offenses in the NFL last year. And in the most important stat in the game, the Bucs were tied for third in most points scored (458).

Can the Bucs maintain that or improve? That’s tough to do.

The chargers #8?! There’s no way they’re top 10 with Philip Rivers leaving. What does that say about Philip Rivers?! Lol

  2. JP09 Says:

Actually Wins are the most important stat in the game but who’s counting those when you have a 5k yard passer….

We could score less points this year and still have more wins (although I believe we will still score at will) because Brady won’t throw 7 pick 6’s and 30 INTs in total

Do we have a backup QB ?…yeah I know there is a name on the depth chart…but do we really have a backup QB ?

Chargers #8 what’s that day about cowhurd

  5. Waterboy Says:

I’m not not sure if the Bucs will score as many points this season but I’d be willing to bet that their defense won’t be last in average starting field position like last season. Which means they shouldn’t have to score as many points.

  6. rrsrq Says:

Isn’t “sneaky” the name of new RB Vaughn

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Shouldn’t ask this, but you got me curious Joe with your comment that Points Scored is the most important stat in the game.

Why is POINTS SCORED any more important than POINTS ALLOWED?

  8. AwShbucs Says:

The improvement on offense will be ball security.

Even if we drop to 5th or 6th ranked offense but we win the turnover battle consistently we’ll still be a much better team.

There’s 24 teams worse than the Chargers?

  10. chris L Says:

i dont think we need to worry about the # of points. we gave up a ton amount of points due to turnovers. similar to yards. our defense got better in the second half and that should continue. it is about playing smart and executing well and with brady and gronk, they are two smart players. i get that sense from our defensive veterans too and winfield.

  11. Buc50 Says:

“Why is POINTS SCORED any more important than POINTS ALLOWED?”

Because we didn’t win a SB until we could score points.

Jamies TO gage our opponent 112 points last season according to ESPN

Hopefully Rojo is putting in the work.

  14. NDog is an idiot Says:

I’ve got zero respect for CowTurds opinions!
But I’m excited to see how things change without a turnover machine back there! Rojo is going to surprise many on here! Love Vaughn’s passion for football and his history of not fumbling at all! If RB is our biggest question we’re going to be damn good this year! Pick up Freeman or Thompson as 3rd back.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

@Buc50 … “Why is POINTS SCORED any more important than POINTS ALLOWED?” Because we didn’t win a SB until we could score points.”

Just for kicks, you might want to go back and take a close look at 2002 AND the rest of the Gruden years, then take a look at the Dungy years. In 2002, we went 12-4 … our offense scored a grand total of 346 points on the season (21.6 PPG average), and it ranked #18 in POINTS SCORED. Meanwhile our defense allowed only 196 points on the season (12.3 PPG average), and it ranked #1 in POINTS ALLOWED.

The previous year (2001) our offense scored 324 points. The year before that (2000), our offense scored 388 points … 42 MORE points than our 2002 offense scored.

And oh BTW Buc50, our DEFENSE scored FIVE TDs in our SB year (35 points), so Gruden’s 2002 offense REALLY only scored 311 points. That’s the same POINTS SCORED that Dungy’s 2001 offense scored after you subtract the TWO TDs that the 2001 defense scored. IOW, Tony’s 2000 & 2001 offenses averaged MORE POINTS SCORED than Chucky’s 2002 offense.

The Bucs heritage is DEFENSE, and DEFENSE is what got us to the SB in 2002. IF we can get that back up into the Top-10, AND get our offense up into the Top-10, we’ll have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

    That’s a color

  18. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Cowherd has a pre-existing relationship with the Chargers going back to last year when they let him in their Draft War Room to watch the draft. He’s schmoozing the front office which feeds him inside information here with this ranking.
