Schedule, Super Bowl Could Be Delayed

April 27th, 2020

“Don’t worry babe. We’re partying Super Bowl Week whether we play or not. Arians will do shots with us.”

For those on the Bucs-in-the-Super-Bowl-in-Tampa bandwagon, here’s a planning update.

Per John Ourand and Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, the NFL initially planned on releasing the 2020 regular season schedule by the end of next week. But some folks internally at the NFL don’t want any schedule released as not to agitate folks who want to keep the country under lock-and-key through parts of the fall if not beyond.

Teams are begging for the NFL to release a schedule, per the report, which of course makes it much easier to sell tickets.

If the schedule is released soon, Ourand and Fischer noted the NFL will have contingency plans built in to start the season as late as October 15 and play the Super Bowl in late-February.

Of course, Tampa is hosting the 2021 Super Bowl.

Other potential nuances to the 2020 schedule would be no bye weeks, no week off before the Super Bowl and/or no Pro Bowl.

Like I was saying WEEKS ago in here.

The season might just start later than normal…but…

    There WILL be a season.

    Love the caption Joe! Haha

  3. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Hey. I’m good as long as there is some kind of NFL season, delayed or not.

  4. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Anyone who claims they know when or if a NFL season will be played is a liar. No one knows. Everyone just has guesses.

  5. Pryda...sec147 Says:

    🙈

  6. Phil Says:

They should release the schedule ASAP to force the states to open in time for the games to played. Nobody wants to hear we don’t get to watch football because some dummy is afraid of the virus. If you’re afraid stay home.

  7. TheBradyBunch Says:

What I got out of this article is that I wish I was a pro bowl tight end!

  8. jb Says:

I wouldn’t mind if they played only a 14 game season with no bye week, but they really should keep 2 weeks between the conference championships and the Super Bowl.

  9. Godlovesbucs Says:

Well, we already know what its like to play a season with no bye weeks…

  10. Ivan The Insider Says:

The season can start on any schedule they want, there just won’t be fans in the stands. They can mass test all the players & staff before games pretty easily.

Game attendance only accounts for about 12% of NFL revenue. They could survive without it if they have to. It’s that 80% of revenue that comes from the guaranteed TV deals that they aren’t going to give up. And there will be higher demand for advertising due to increased viewership with more people being at home; which is why the NFL Draft at the highest ratings ever.

THE SEASON WILL HAPPEN. It just might be without fans in the stands.

  11. EA Says:

    Better late than never.

  12. Steven007 Says:

The last time there was a short week before the super bowl the team most of us like the most, not all of us to be sure if the comments here are any measure, won the damn game. Coincidence?

  13. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Ivan is right, Fans in the stands or no fans, the season will be played.

  14. '79 Defense Says:

Even if there is only a one week between the conference championship game and the Super Bowl all our players will have to do is get in their cars and drive to RJS.

  15. Stanglassman Says:

Phil-That would be fine but unfortunately your not just risking your own life you’d be risking everyone’s. As far as ‘Joe’s’ editorial that ‘folks’ want to keep the country under lock and key is just ridiculous. Nobody wants this it just happens to be the best way at saving life’s.

  16. Casual Observer Says:

The balance is between minimizing health risks and economic risks. Not a yes/no Issue. No one knows what is really the best balance. It will take some trial and error – which is what the states are doing.

  17. Buc4evr Says:

I’m fine without a pro bowl as are many of the players. If we have to watch from home and drink less expensive beer that’s ok also. Time for a bigger TV.. lol.

  18. Joe Says:

Time for a bigger TV.. lol.

    🙂

  19. Oneilbucs Says:

Sean Payton said he will see them in the summer .

  20. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Nobody wants to hear we don’t get to watch football because some dummy is afraid of the virus. If you’re afraid stay home….Phil
Spoken like a REAL logical guy. You and your buddies all drinking together, exchanging hi-fives, screaming and yelling in each others faces. I get it – -I’m old- -stay home. What about all those 50+ at the peak earning age that have season tickets? Are they dummies if they stay home. OK, let ’em watch TV and only the tough, macho guys like you attend the game. What do the Bucs do when someone on the 50 man team comes down with it? Saddle every one up and play on. Then several others on the Bucs get it and someone who they played two weeks ago gets it and infects others on that team.
Sound like a typical NFL season to you?
No one wants a 2020 season more than me. IT JUST AIN”T HAPPENING until we have some form of prevention other than blind luck to avoid getting a disease that can and has killed others infected by a younger, healthier infected fan- -like you!
We have a Dear Leader who pulls treatment and prevention tips out of his azz. Unless you can post here exactly how the NFL can pull a 2020 season off then you are pulling your version of what will happen from the same place.

  21. Pok Says:

Oh please Oh please Oh please let there be a season

This team has me as excited as when gruden took over built us an offense and got us to the promised land! We have the d line. We have the QB. We have the receivers. We have the coaching. Oh please

  22. Wait! What no fans?? Says:

Those who say play without fans probably are to cheap to go to a game anyway and prefer to sit and watch it at home.

  23. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Everybody do some real research!! Don’t listen to CNN for 5 minutes and think you got it!! They are fake news!!!! … This virus AT BEST kills at a .05 rate… Less than the flu!! You actually have a higher chance of dying from being hit in the head with a coconut!! As soon as the liberals are tired of acting like it’s bad to screw Trump’s economy then everything will go on as normal!! We did the right thing social distancing TO STOP HOSPITALS FROM OVER CROWDING!!! Job well done because that was never going to happen anyway with this!! Now let’s stop this stupid lock down!!!

  24. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Well, I can tell that this is the bad Joe. I had posted regarding AND WHY Phil’s plea for a season is foolish. I guess my use of “zz” combined with an “a” when discussing where Phil got his beliefs was too much. Else, he doesn’t like the truth. Joe, going to block this too?

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

“Don’t worry babe. We’re partying Super Bowl Week whether we play or not. Arians will do shots with us.”

    another unnecessary shot

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Teams are begging for the NFL to release a schedule, per the report, which of course makes it much easier to sell tickets.”

no one want to buy tickets until fans know they’ll actually get to go to the games, so releasing the schedule won’t make a bit of difference.

  27. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Dude if you think I’m wrong look up USC study… Even the governor of new York said it has a less than 1% death rate… So why would you not post that?? You are contributing to the fake news good job… And we didn’t straiten the curve either!! Studies have down it would have affected us the same either way… Anything from here out is partisan bull!!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

They can’t cancel bye weeks for all of the players. It would be a violation of the CBA.

They could, however, wait on the 17 game season.

  29. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

If you went to the doc and were told you had a disease that has a 98% survival rate wouldn’t you feel pretty good about those odds? It’s all in the narrative man!! And it’s not even close to a 2% death rate!! Don’t be a sheep Joe do real research into it… The actual studies!! Anytime notice how NOBODY had died of the flu since Feb?? Don’t you don’t that a little ridiculous?!? If you don’t believe me do some real looking into it not just your local fake news channel… You can’t believe anything they say anymore

  30. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

USC study shows a .05 death rate… At this point it’s so they don’t look so stupid for stopping an economy that feeds THE WORLD!!! Wait until the real effects of this shut down kick in…. Shelter the old, give programs for people at risk… Everyone as as you were!!! Don’t over complicate it!!!

  31. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

This is copied DIRECTLY from the study!! And this was an older one so they even knew then and refused to run the positive news on mainstream media!! It doesn’t fit their narrative that way… Here is the quote.. Look it up!! The morality rate is even lower now

The Stanford study projected a mortality rate from the coronavirus of 0.12% to 0.2%. In early March….

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

While hope for a vaccine is still off in the future a treatment would be a major step. If people knew they could get treated and return home!!!

Treatment and testing and life will almost be normal again.

  33. stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW Assuming there is a season…can you imagine the highlight and the announcers the first time TB12 hits Gronk with a TD pass!

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The dimwits who don’t take the virus seriously are the ones spreading it. Flu seems worse because it’s been around longer. They compare all of 2019 flu deaths to a few months of C-19.
Remember those block parties we heard about in Sarasota a couple weeks ago? 18 people who were there contracted the virus. Three died.
A week ago, Bradenton went from 11 deaths to 22 deaths in a day…and is now over 40.
Statewide, flu has only caused 13 deaths in Florida this Flu Season. C-19 has caused 1,088 deaths in FL.
That is a huge difference. Do you really think 42 people died of the flu in Bradenton all of last year??? Instead of watching conservative biased tv and call it reseach, actually do the research.I

You asked for the research, 24 people died from flu in Manatee county in 2018. More than 3,000 in Florida in 2018, according to state records. Hopefully, C-19 doesn’t catch 2018 flu numbers in the state, and it has a long way to go when you factor in treatment improving.–Joe

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sorryjackchuckiesback, .05 percent of the United States is over 16 million.

  36. SOEbuc Says:

They have to push back Gasparilla to be the weekend before the Super Bowl like it was originally scheduled.

  37. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

No it’s not it’s roughly 7 million!! There is about 350 million in the US so .05 is 7 Million…. That is assuming every single person in the us gets it… Not likely as we build herd immunity!… It’s so funny everyone I hear talk about it just parrot what they here in tv … No real looking into it…. When the death rate of ANYTHING is.05 then you have to weigh acceptable risk!! Is killing the greatest economy that feeds millions and millions worth the .05 risk? It’s doing worse damage than the virus!! And studies are also showing that countries that DID NOT lock down are having roughly the same amount of infections as us… Remember the lock down was to prevent the hospitals from being overrun!! .. PERIOD!!!! That is why we went along with it, that’s why they set up tents that never got used, that’s why the Navy ship was parked in the harbor… Well guess what.. It never happened!!! At this point it’s doing more harm than good!! I lost a business I’ve been running for 10 years!! I’m not sure I’ll be able to recover…… For what??? Show me the proof be losing my job saved lives!!! Or and other American!! Do real research people look into it, contact your local official and ask them! Talk to doctors in your area if you can…. Find out the truth

  38. SOEbuc Says:

Mid October weather is much better to start playing at Ray Jay than early early September. Maybe the one tiny good thing about the epidemic.

  39. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Oh well I guess I’m not allowed to put actual studies on here and tell the truth…. I had a big long paragraph showing how wrong it is to have everyone stay locked down…. By the way you are wrong… 350 Mill in the US … .05% is closer to 7 mil not 16…. It’s just math…. And that is assuming every last one of us gets it!!

  40. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Buccaneersbonzai…. Did you also know they are counting almost anything as death by covid now? Heart attack.. COVID.. stroke… Covid….. Look up the CDC numbers and you’ll find that since February NOBODY has died of the flu…. Don’t you find that a little suspicious??

  41. Troll Says:

No big deal!!! …Hey it’s mostly killing men over 55 so unless you’re and old fart, according to Sorryjackchuckiesback Says: you only got a 2% chance of death. So c’mon young dudes get out there and do your part and help the cause:

    MASA

    Make America Smaller Again

  42. TheBradyBunch Says:

We are screwed. Morons like sorryjack can drive cars and even vote. The founding fathers didn’t account for Breitbart, Fox News, and fools who listen to that garbage and thinks it’s real news.

  43. Caleb Lee Says:

Can you imagine the tv ratings for NFL games? The distraction alone is well worth the risk as some may have stated “mass test before games”. Seems like a legit option.

Side note: Am I the only one who creates the new draft picks on Madden with realistic ratings and then drools over seeing Brady and Gronk through winning a super bowl?

    No? Just me?
An entertaining tidbit.. I released Jameis after I moved Brady to Tampa. Guess who the Patriots had as their QB in the Super Bowl? Yup. Americas QB playing for America’s team. I $#!+ myself. And then we won the Super Bowl baby!

Kinda scary to think about though.. aaaaaand feels Buccable. (Yes, a word created solely to describe something that would only happen to the Bucs)

  44. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

So what’s y’all’s “real” news? That we should all put our heads into the sand and wait until the government tells us it’s ok? Oh the government you decide to trust only when it suits your argument…. I already said make provisions for the old and for the people who have underlying issues already… Everyone else get back to work… Sweden didn’t shut everything down and they’re not all dead.. in fact the numbers per capita are pretty close to the same…. So what’s all you gloom and doomers idea? What should we do? You tell me? … Tell me again what was the lock down for? Wasn’t it so the hospital’s didn’t get overrun?? Has that happened? … You probably have a high percent chance of dying driving to work should we stop driving? … I hear morons like you keep insulting everyone with the plan AND BRAVE enough to not live in fear but I hear no idea accept listen to mainstream news like a good little sheep… And btw I don’t want fox either they’re all owned by the same people!! It’s controlled opposition!! So I’m anxious to hear all you guy great ideas?? Or at least tell me this genius what were the lock down originally for… Honestly answer that question??? And tell me based on that if we still need to be locked down??

  45. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

And historically lock downs and isolations are supposed to be done IN THE HOSPITAL with the sick people!! Not every single HEALTHY American hide in their home

  46. adam from ny Says:

the covid is real and people are dying everywhere…

they are boating massive amounts of bodies out to a place called hart’s island in new york and mass dumping them into deep graves…

bodies are everywhere being chilled for burial in new york…

    this sheet is real…

i know at least 5-8 people who have passed away

  47. Phil Says:

They need to release the schedule now so the governors of each state know when they need to have their state open. Because the governors know that if they screw up and their state isn’t open when a football game is scheduled they will not be reelected.

  48. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Sorry, Joe. Still don’t know why it was gone- -and now back.

  49. Jack Karako Says:

Phil – shut up. My wife has non-Hodgkins, and we both have 90 year old parents. It is stupid people like you without compassion for human life despite the fact 1 million Americans have contracted COVID-19 and nearly 60,000 lost their lives. Sports will begin when the communities and publis health officials feel the time is right.

  50. Jack Karako Says:

    Same for Sorryjackchuckiesback

  51. Boltsfan17 Says:

All leagues need to reopen ASAP. This virus is such overblown BS.

  52. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Jack karako … Baaahahaha … <— sheep sound!!! Lol …. So you totally trust the government? Are you a trump supporter or no? You just going to blindly let them tell you when it's ok!!?? What do you suggest? We just let the economy crash so your 90 year old parents can live!! You are the uncompassionate one because all you care about is yourself.. I'm worried about what this shut down is going to cost my 18 year old son who unlike a 90 year old has his whole life ahead of him…. So if your so worried about it why don't you just stay inside? If you're doing that then how can me going to work hurt you?? And have you been to your local store market yet? You'll stand next to 100 people in there at once but I can't go back to work…. I'll say it again isolation is supposed to only be for the sick!!! If your worried YOU stay home!!! That doesn't mean you can force ME to stay home

  53. Jiml Says:

Just push season back a month. Camp August, preseason games Sept,(no fans) NO PRO BOWL(THANK GOD), super bowl March. Put a stake in the ground otherwise you can always find an “expert” who says keep it shut. You can already find some egghead Poindexter out there who say it will NEVER BE SAFE TO PLAY AGAIN
