Patriots Fan Loses It

April 22nd, 2020

Patriots fan reacts.

Joe believes Bucs fans will enjoy this story.

So yesterday, Joe turned on SiriusXM NFL Radio after writing several posts about the trade for All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski. As the show “Late Hits” began, co-hosted by Gil Brandt and Alex Marvez, the very first caller wanted to talk about the Gronk trade.

The caller was a Patriots fan. From Springfield, Mo.!!! (Not Springfield, Mass.) That’s Chiefs country.

Anyway, the very first thing out of the caller’s mouth, “I feel like crying.”

Dude has watched his team run all over the NFL for two decades and now that he’s seeing just a little bit of adversity, a grown man is walking to bawl like a child who has to eat his broccoli.

What a bunch of pansies, these Patriots fans!

Patriots fans will feel better when the 4th they got for Gronk becomes part of the package to move up for a sliding Tua lol.

Again, while I dont really understand the logic behind wanting to trade for Gronk (besides Brady wanting his guy) it was a good deal for both sides really.

  2. Bucs Guy Says:

It was a bad deal for the Bucs. Nothing against Gronk, just a bad deal.
    1) You traded a 4th rd pick for a 7th rd pick
    2) You overpaid Gronk when you should have re-negotiated his contract as part of the deal.
    3) Gronk isn”t worth $10M a year at this point in his career. Maybe $6M.Brate’s salary is $4.5M.
    4) His $10M salary removes your ability to trade for Trent Williams, re-sign Lavonte or Godwin to a long term deal now.
    5) You devalued any return on an OJ trade. You’ll be lucky to get a 5th rd pick now because everyone will wait for him to be released.
    6) You now have 3 pass catching TEs in an offense that uses TEs mainly to block.
    7) Gronk is on the down side of his career at his age. He’s been hurt often and hasn’t played a full season in a while.
    8) Gronk hasn’t played in a year and admits he’s not in football shape.

Yeah, this was a good deal for both sides.

  3. Bird Says:

I think that was Ndog in disguise…you know the one crying

  4. ClodHopper Says:

The patriots got a 4th rounder for a retired dude. I could see them hyperventilating about Brady but Gronk? That’s playing with house money

  5. WhatTheBuc Says:

I doubt the Bucs pay Gronk 10 million next year. I know what Rosenhaus said but I think we will soon hear of a reduced base with incentives.

  6. El Buco Realisto Says:

Of course the Pat’s fleeced the Bucs!!!!!!! History will show that the Pat’s traded a 7th round pick and two old players that they did not want nor would play for them, for a 4th round pick in 2020 and a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2021!!!!!!!!!

If this was 2015, then yes, it would have been a great move!!!!!!!!!! Ole stale biscuit is going to leave this team in worse shape of what he left Arizona in!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Buccan8 Says:

BucsGuy’s Point #5 is the most salient to me. There were no league calendar triggers that meant this deal had to be made yesterday. If you’re really shopping Howard or Brate to move up in the first round, then this Gronk business could have waited for Friday, next Friday…or next MONTH!

Also, Joe—I know it’s not like they went out and paid big bucks for a FA, but how close to a party foul is it for guys like Godwin and Lavonte? They’re certainly team-first guys, and they certainly see the dollar signs for themselves with the national notoriety of Gronk being added to this team, but I’d love to know what they’re thinking!

  8. Barbosa Says:

If gronk equals Eve one more win this year then it was worth it. How many more losing years do people need? This is what “All in” looks like. Let’s gooooooo

  9. SteveK Says:

    This is a great move.

Gronk is a stud. Baller. Hall of famer and a gamer.

He and a Brady are going to light it up. We have firepower. Fire the cannons!

  10. Gofortheface30 Says:

Patriots fans have been generally fine, some are even adopting Tampa as a side team to cheer for and jumping on the bandwagon, which is fine! Where I am seeing by far the most saltiness/jealousy is from Saints fans. Those fat and disgusting people in New Orleans are big time threatened by all this attention for the Bucs. Idk, maybe they have PTSD from finding new and exciting ways to lose to Minnesota in the playoffs in soul crushing fashion every year but they’re the ones that are being by far the most insufferable.

Also can we please have a side discussion as to why it’s assumed Michael Thomas is better than Evans? Thomas lines up in slot half the time, is schemed open with those little pansy drag routes and has a paltry 11yrd per catch average with less touchdowns than Evans. Has anyone ever seen Michael Thomas take a post 75yards to the house? He’s the most boring superstars wide receiver I’ve ever seen. I’ll take the big play Evans all day everyday

  11. ChanEpic Says:

This bandwagon doesn’t have enough room on it, YET. I just want PICKS for Brate or Howard NOW!!!!! We can FEAST in the draft if we do this right

  12. ChanEpic Says:

Bucsguy, I honestly think you’re underestimating the uplift just putting someone like Gronk in a Bucs Uni, not just this year, going forward. OJ is NOT GRONK, even hurt. Brate is NOT GRONK, even when hurt. The Brady/Gronk moves are FRANCHISE BUILDING moves putting personnel in the building who are going to impact it on and off of the field. We’ve not had real leadership on this team since Gruden left, we may have overpaid in the near term but this is a dividends move.

  13. Ocala Says:

OJ Howard is not going to be released. People want to complain just to complain.

  14. Admiral Redbeard Says:

BucsGuy, Brates salary for the 2020 season is 6.8, not 4.5

  15. JDub94 Says:

Some of you fans seriously need to find a new team to bitch and moan about. I get it over a decade of straight losing football with one good season sprinkled in the mix. We all as fans dealt with the same thing. We literally could have a team full of all pros. Some of you would still complain. Don’t know how good you truly have it right now. Appreciate and enjoy the ride. Who knows how long it will last. Just be thankful we have a fighters chance the next two years. In BA I trust.

  16. Crack3rK Says:

I just can’t see a 4th rounder for a retired guy. But at least the Pats will use it wisely. Pretty sure they won’t draft a kicker or a mediocre running back who hasn’t reached his potential yet. Waste.

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Redbeard,

He restructured it for 4.25 million this year.

  18. Admiral Redbeard Says:

ChanEpic, 100% correct! Get picks for Brate or Howard, and build this team into something that will last. Patriots don’t rebuild, they reload every year, and they do it with draft picks. The more picks, the better chance you have to reload with quality players on rookie contracts. FYI, I’m not a Pats fan, or former Pats fan. I live in CT, so all I hear about is the Pats and their winning formula of how they do it. Same thing every year. Load up on draft picks, and if you only hit on half of them, it’s okay, because that’s 6 new quality players added to the team instead of just 2 or 3. That’s how you build a 20 year dynasty. Brady is great, but they won without him in the past (with QB’s that couldn’t make it on other teams).

  19. james west Says:

they traded their compensatory pick in the 4th, they still got their 1st fourth round pick, they had two 4th round picks to begin with, so settle down folks, if this makes the goat happy, then imho way to go jason, so far this off season has been a grand slam, home run, now bring it home in the draft, and we got this division locked up!!!!!!!!!! playoffs and superbowl run

  20. Admiral Redbeard Says:

DooshLaRue, I did not know that. Good for us. He’s a good player (whom I really like), but not 6.8 good, and this is a business. It may have been a move, not so much to keep him, but to make him more easily tradeable, which I think they’ll do, already having Auclair (who is a much better blocker) and Tanner on the roster.

  21. adam from ny Says:

    luvin’ me some dick vitale…

limber up those joints for the bucs dickie v !

  22. adam from ny Says:

gronk is bringing starpower, mojo and balls…most of all balls…

he is brady’s right hand man…

    he is #GronkGravy

    #LetsRideTheFugginGravyTrain

    #TomGravy #GronkGravy

    #MoreGravyOnThosePotatoesBish

  23. Bradinator Says:

There are seriously people crying about this deal? Really? We gave up a pick we didn’t even have at the end of last season (it’s compensatory). On no! We gave up a special teamer! It doesn’t really matter if Gronk is 100%. His mere presence is going to cause issues with opposing Defenses. No D coordinator is going discount him because he’s “old”. Brady will throw to him. During his whole career, nobody had to worry much about anyone else on the Pat’s roster. Now there is Godwin and Evans. Who were we going to take in round 4 of this draft that was going to equal even a 60% Gronk? Is he worth 10 mil? Probably not. Licht and company have been very good with cap management and we’ll lock up David and Godwin. Some people like to whine for thew sake of whining. Get over it. Be happy for a change.

  24. Bradinator Says:

BTW for the folks that are worried about what David and Godwin are thinking. Let me help you. David is thinking “Damn! I might actually get to go to the Pro Bowl this year since we’ll be on National TV every other week!” and Godwin is thinking “I am going to catch a TON of balls this year and it don’t matter what the Bucs do, I’m gonna get friggin PAID by someone!” . The goal is to win a SB this year. It’s a reality for a change. If you wanna worry about something, worry about the D-line/O-line depth. Or Safety. Or super young CBs. Those are ACTUAL problems.

  25. DanBucsFan Says:

I can’t beleive that some fans are not happy with the move!?!?! Are they seriously upset that we traded our 4th round pick ( comp pick ) for Gronk ( arguably best Te ) in football ? Or am I missing something? I mean is his salary a lil high ? Yes, but unless your last name is Glazier..then to quote Aaron Rodgers… R.E.L.A.X !! Salary cap issues are last thing they are worried about,..CLEARLY in win now mode..and I am pretty convinced that a Super Bowl is what they wamt to win, not 10 games and a South title. Writing is on wall, old coach, old Qb, Hosting Super Bowl, etc. Licht will trim some fat somewhere u can count on that, maybe restructure a couple contracts if necessary.. But will people please stop being so ridiculous with the 4th round pick argument lolol

  26. lambchop Says:

    Love Dickie V, man.

  27. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I gotta tell ya, after five freaking years of disdain for the Bucs during the crablegs/crotchgrabbing/America’s Quarterback years, I AM EXCITED !!!!!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brate restructured so that the Bucs could keep him.

OJ doesn’t make much at all. Also, he might be a pass-catching TE, but he’s also a blocking one.

If the Bucs want to trim money off the cap, they’ll have to find another way.

They can’t do it with Suh or JPP. A Mike Evans restructure might help. Lavante too. They could work out a deal our franchised played and knock some off.

  29. Joe Says:

You overpaid Gronk when you should have re-negotiated his contract as part of the deal.

There is nothing to suggest this won’t happen. In fact, Joe sort of expects it.

And someone please tip off Joe where Trent Williams said he can/will play right tackle. Because that’s where he would be playing this year if he comes to the Bucs. Same with Jason Peters (who said he will play right tackle).

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The true irony is that if the Bucs go to the Superbowl, Jason Licht comes off as a genius. A well-deserved label. Think about it:

    • He built the team that attracted Arians in the first place
    • He convinced Brady to sign
    • He convinced Suh to re-sign
    • He convinced JPP to re-sign
    • He worked out a low-cost deal to acquire Gronk
    • Draft still has to happen, but if he fills the needs with good players?
    • Best of all, going all-in normally sets teams back for years. Licht is doing it with short-term deals, so when this is over, the Bucs will be gold so far as cap space.

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bonzai

Reads like the cast of grumpy old men.

We might have cap space, but gonna have to find really good players to spend it on.

  32. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

That is a superbowl contender!!!!!!!! If this was 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!!!!!

Will you hold the so called gm accountable if they are not a contender?????? This franchise will be in ultimate shambles in a year or two!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Dapostman Says:

This is a two year window to get Arians a Super Bowl as a coach. After the 2 year window is over I have no idea what this team will look like.

    Brady will be gone
    Gronk will be gone
    Lavonte will be gone
    Suh will be gone
    JPP will be gone
    Jensen will be gone
    Brate will be gone

So I will enjoy these next two years because after that who knows…………..

  34. Sauron's eye Says:

The trade was a no brainer. Our forth round pick would most likely be a bust. Gronk will be a difference maker, just as he always has been. Having so much talent at TE & WR as we do, we can use him more sparingly than they did in NE and keep him fresh into the post season.

  35. Swampbuc Says:

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of frontrunners. It would be funny to see the Patriots finish with a losing record for the first time since……the 90s?

Of course, the Bucs will probably be this year’s Browns and the Pats will make the playoffs with Brian Hoyer throwing checkdowns to a no name.

  36. Owlykat Says:

If BA gets the Bucs two Super Bowl rings and then retires and we have to rebuild again, so be it. We will keep all the BA position coaches who can develop young talent and Licht who can get talent for us as he has proved.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

People whining about trading a 4th rounder for who is very much in the conversation for the best TE in NFL history, and is still just 30 years old… Wow, there are some real tards on this message board. A bunch of loser mentality morons.

  38. WhatTheBuc Says:

We do have a bunch of loser mentality fans Rod. These guys have been beaten down, rejected by even their sisters. The same people that said everyone was stupid for thinking Brady would come here. The don’t even have the sense to change their handle after looking like a douche. Same people that think other GMs are batting 100% rounds 1-7. Same loser that will be driving around with Bucs flags and waiting at the airport for the team to arrive when they start winning. Same losers that claim to have been a fan since 1976.
