Gronk Always A Brady Guy

April 22nd, 2020

Joe likes how some on Twitter are trying to turn yesterday’s trade for wrestling champion and future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski into proof that Tom Brady is giving Bucs suits marching orders.

After the trade went down, Gronk’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio and said Gronk decided to come out of retirement when Brady came to the Bucs.

The two, Rosenhaus said, are tight. Left unsaid is that Gronk had no desire to play with Brady any longer in New England.

(No, Gronk and Bill Belicheat were not bosom buddies.)

There is some evidence of how tight Gronk and Brady are. It seems two years ago when the Patriots had a handshake deal with Detroit to trade Gronk, the perennial Pro Bowler threatened to retire rather than go to Detroit.

Why? Because Brady wasn’t going with him, types Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

The Patriots were poised to trade Gronkowski to the Lions for a second-round pick before the 2018 season but the tight end balked at the deal, threatening to retire if he couldn’t continue to play with Brady.

“Yeah,’’ Gronkowski said after the Patriots lost to the Lions in Detroit Sept. 23, 2018. “It happened. Brady’s my quarterback. I’m not going anywhere without Brady.’’

Now, when the Bucs were talking turkey to bring Brady to Tampa Bay, at some point it’s very possible, maybe likely, Brady told the Bucs, “Look, you sign me and I can talk Gronk out of retirement.”

Joe can see that happening easy. What Joe cannot see is Brady ordering the Bucs, “You promise me right now you will trade for Gronk or I won’t show up for OTAs and you will have to bring back Jameis.”

As it turned out, Brady didn’t have to worry about OTAs.

How anyone would question the benefit of this is beyond me. There’s a level of trust there that nobody has ever seen on this football team. A competent QB and a TE that will go through a wall for him. Call it trust, familiarity, comfort, heck whatever, this is a welcome dynamic.

  2. Bucs Guy Says:

Gronk is not the same. He was a great TE. Not so sure any more. Too many injuries, hasn’t played a full season in a long time, out of football shape and hasn’t played a game in over a year.

Added to that the Bucs overpaid. You traded a 4th for a 7th. Gronk was never going to play for NE again. You could have got him for a few deflated footballs. Added to that, you didn’t renegotiate his contract. $10M for a TE? The Bucs are only paying Brate $4.5M. Gronk isn”t worth more tgan $6M max. This is Gronk on the downside of his career.

Patriots fleece the Bucs — again. Hope Gronk likes blocking.

Yes Bucs Guy … but there is something to be said about a locker room full of kids that do NOT know how to win. Brady Gronk will make Cameron even better and IF OJ does not leave via trade tomorrow, maybe he’ll learn to be an NFL TE asnd not just a great SEC TE>

  4. ©MadMax Says:

He’s only 30 and he’s had a little time off for his body to heal. Some people just dont get it….smdh. Look, Brady and Gronk, and our D (especially if we land Simmons) are taking us to the Superbowl…dont you realize that?

  5. ©MadMax Says:

Gronk got his number 87, Leggett is now #81. Good stuff man!!!

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Gronk is only 31 years old, and still has plenty of football left in him.

  7. ben Says:

Bucs gave a forth round pick for a guy that would only play for the bucs or stay retired … why not just give up a bag of chips?

  8. bogiedr Says:

Ben, because Belcheat would have sat on him under the retired reserve tag!!!

  9. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

It is so weird sitting at the cool kids table.

  10. ItzOK Says:

Itz Obvious Brady is underpaid already. Brady’s economic impact to the region, the bucs, merch sales, ticket sales and talent acquisition is paying off. The Glazers need to find a way to double his salary.

  11. Jordan L Says:

This is going to be hilarious when it all blows up.

  12. The Graham Tram Says:

You got Gronk and Brady together (and a 7th) for a 4th round pick. There’s really nothing else that needs to be said- we were a worm for like 10 years, cocooned with Bruce for a year and now we’re a bald eagle

  13. TOM Says:

    Make this a tri-fecta & get Edelman.

  14. pick6 Says:

this was probably where the “personnel decisions” scuttlebutt began…with Tom saying “you think you guys could fit Gronk into your offense?”. and i’m guessing he also wanted to be sure that they would prioritize a reliable passing-down RB.

that’s a relief, as i feared that there was some push for Edelman who would be a marginal member of this pass catching group and take targets away from guys who i think can do far more for a QB

  15. Rayjay1122 Says:

We gave the compensatory 4th rounder for who I believe was Buchanon. I think I would trade Buchanon (compensatory) for Gronk and a 7th. No brainer.

  16. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Percy harvin said he wants to play again. Bring him in on a one year league minimum potentially

ESP not that the devils lettuce is legal

    Now*

How anyone can not like this move is beyond me. He’s only 31 and had a full year to heal. You all talk about missed time then crave OJ , who hasn’t played a full season yet. Not to mention cant catch a cold and is soft as tissue paper. This is a steal of a trade for the Bucs. Gronk won’t be playing 100% of the snaps here folks.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Look it up for yourselves. Gronk never completes an entire season. He has not done so since 2011. Yet we pay him 10 mil for one season? OJ will be around for another 10 yrs. gronk for one. This Buc organization has become smothered in its own hype. Who is our QB when Brady goes down? And he will. Don’t worry fellow fans, I’ ve been a fan since inception and seen all of our missteps. I’ll be here to say, I told you so.

  21. Inspired Says:

You trolls and nay sayers are boring. Yawn….. However, it’s hilarious to me that you are ALL crying in your Kool Aid… And ALL the Real Bucs Fan’s KNOW IT AND LOVE IT! Believe It Suckers…. WE KNOW YOUR JEALOUS 😉 Keep acting like you just know your gonna tell someone You just Knew it. The Actual Fans KNOW that your teams are gonna get it’s ARSESES KICKED ACROSS THE ENTIRE FOOTBALL FEILD from Bell to Bell…. What your actually going to say is how You just Knew that the Bucs were undisputably the best offense that has Ever Been… And May Ever Be. Have a Nice Day 😘
