How Godwin Copes

April 11th, 2020

Preparing for Tom Brady.

This [national advertisers don’t like that word] has changed everyday life in America. Maybe for good.

NFL players, despite their resources, have had their lives turned upside down as well. Where once they had all sorts of places to work out, including team facilities and high-end gyms, players are now hoping they can use a friend or teammate’s home workout equipment.

In a video chat with Albert Breer of SI.com, Chris Godwin told of how he’s trying to stay in shape. Despite being a star NFL player, Godwin’s workout regime sounds like that of a typical dude living in the burbs.

“I’ve been running up and down my street just to get some conditioning in,” Godwin told Breer. He also added he bought a peloton bike and has also gone old school in his workouts.

“Just old fashioned push-ups and sit-ups and ab workouts.”

A reason Godwin is trying to stay in shape is whenever he gets the first chance to work out with his new teammate Tom Brady, he’s guessing Brady expects his receivers to not be out-of-shape slobs.

“I would imagine his expectation level is really high,” Godwin said. “It is up to us to go ahead and match it.

“I believe in myself. I firmly believe in the guys that we have around us to accomplish that and to raise to that level. When we do that, man, it’s going to be scary. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Joe has a hunch Brady has a sweet set up at Derek Jeter’s house where Godwin could work out.

I never thought I’d miss the preposterous “America’s quarterback” or even the “Ozark watching, yam eating” prefix for our former coach. But this incessant unmentionable word relating to the pandemic that apparently advertisers hate has now taken its place as the current unambiguously annoying conceit in nearly every new post.

  2. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I am more worried about the O linemen and D linemen not having access to weight sets that they used to be able to just go down to one buc place to get their workouts in.

not we are at risk of sacks going way WAY up due to O linemen not being able to work out.

  3. Joe Says:

    apparently advertisers hate

There’s no “apparent” about it. Feel free to click the link and read for yourself.

    unambiguously annoying

You know what Joe finds annoying? Throwing away money for no good reason. And there’s nothing ambiguous about that.

  4. Bucsfan951 Says:

Godwins fiancé is in pretty good shape herself and I think they both work out together and eat really clean/healthy. Godwin is a really good dude and I hope the Bucs reward him with a nice second contract. He deserves it!

  5. coach Says:

Joe 007 is right please stop.

  6. Steven007 Says:

I’m not denying anything you say about your advertisers. You know better than I. I guess I’m questioning why you feel a need to frame your openings in such a way to insert that parenthetical link to the big bad word instead of just framing it in a way where you can easily avoid it something like:

“This situation that we’re all dealing with has changed American Life…”

Seems more organic and less cumbersome. I can’t think you enjoy embedding that link every time, but I guess the obvious case is that you must.

  7. ModHairKen Says:

It’s as annoying as those Tom McEwen articles where he talked about the fake breakfast he never had. How many of you out there get that reference?

  8. Joe Says:

It’s as annoying as those Tom McEwen articles where he talked about the fake breakfast he never had.

“Hard-boiled egg with toasted Cuban bread straight from Alessi Bakery, and a bowl of Plant City strawberries… “

  9. Joe Says:

“This situation that we’re all dealing with has changed American Life…”

Joe can just hear one of his journalism professors yelp “What situation? Someone is sitting on the can wrong?”

  10. Anonymous Says:

@joe Clyde or Cam Akers if you had to choose ?

@joe Clyde or Cam Akers if you had to choose ?

Clyde but would be happy with either.

  12. Anonymous Says:

I like both Clyde has this natural thing about him that’s undeniable

  13. Steven007 Says:

Joe, it was a suggestion that literally took me two seconds to come up with. I’m sure you can do better.

  14. Ed Kerber Says:

    NDOG

I thought Jameis was definitely going to play championship football soon. But, unfortunately, the XFL just folded.

  15. Clean House Says:

Well if Jameis doesn’t play, this league is Pretty backwards and the only reason I am open to this change is because it’s Tom Brady. I liked Winston long term.
Would have been interested to see Rivers too.

    #1 passing team
#3 offense in spite of #24 running game.

I’m well aware of the turnovers but still enjoyed watching maybe one of the best natural passers in the NFL who is now supposedly not good enough.
    It’s absurd and ridiculous.

  16. Bucs Guy Says:

With the XFL closing shop, the Bucs should sign the Dallas kicker for competition at camp.

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Clean house absurd and ridiculous you act like he proved something here lol
The only the he was consistent at was his decision making and it was horrible. How come it is ok for everyone else on the team to be replaceable except him??? He had long enough the Bucs stood by this guy through everything and now they’re the bad guy’s???? The Bucs absolutely made the right decision his time was up here no matter who they brought in to play QB.

    @joe

Word on the street , is that will just happen to “plan” to go golfing at the same course on the same day, and someone will “accidentally” have brought a football in their golf bag!!!!! And since all of these accidents and strange occurrences, they might run a couple of routes in between holes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Out of shape players will be more prone to injury…..and this just doesn’t affect current players on the roster. It affects the draft picks…..

A question that should get top priority is “Tell me about your workout regimen.”

True pros like Godwin will take care of themselves…..

  20. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

If I made the league minimum of 6 figures, I think I’d find a way to get a weight room put together in my home. No reason to treat these guys like they’re babies.

  21. George Rauh Says:

    We need to extend Godwin!!!!

  22. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Good for you Knuckle head commenting disservice. It’s always easy to spend somebody’s else’s money.

  23. chris L Says:

brady should set up his entire team with the TB12 subscription.

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

I like strawberries also. That doesn’t change the fact that they are one of the most pesticide sprayed fruit crops that exist.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

I hate the fact he chose the number 14… I hope it doesn’t haunt him.

14 just isn’t a good WR number, and in Bucs lore it hold as special place as the number of Vinny…

  26. Gary o Says:

Bucks need a kicker go after Pat’s ex kicker might be better now he is healthy

  27. SOEbuc Says:

    Tampabaybucsbro

Wouldn’t be surprised if any starting NFL OL or DL player didn’t have a weight room in their house already. Maybe not Swaggy Baker.
