Hidden Impact

Talks Tom Brady.

Pride of Eastern Illinois University and survivor of the [national advertisers don’t like that word], Saints coach Sean Payton apparently thinks Bucs fans should expect big things from Tom Brady.

And not just on the field.

In his weekly question-and-answer column on The Athletic, FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer said he was speaking to Payton recently and Payton had a few things to say about Brady and what he will do in Tampa.

How do you think Tom Brady will affect the Bucs’ offense this year? Is his arm still strong enough to throw it deep to those big receivers? — Chad H.

You look at the weapons he has at his disposal, those two big wide receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin but also O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate — he has a ton of weapons he can use that he didn’t have in New England.

The bigger part is what he is going to do off the field. He is going to elevate everyone’s work ethic. They are going to get a chance to see how hard he works and how smart he works.

I had Sean Payton on my “Fox Football Now” show last week and he spoke about how Brady has that Michael Jordan-factor. He makes everyone else around him look like Pro Bowlers. He makes everyone seem so much better. That’s really what the true meaning of greatness is.

Of course we have heard some of this before from Payton.

Still, as good as Brady is and as much as his aura may be strong, just how much better can he make Joe Haeg block? Ronald Jones run? Dare Ogunbowale catch?

Will he motivate guys to practice and prepare and play 110 percent? Yeah, probably. But Joe’s not expecting Brady to be a miracle worker here just by the force of his personality.

How much longer all of this, the Brady Factor, be analyzed? It’s fun, but at some point what else can be said?

I just hope they get on the field in September so that we can talk about what’s happened instead of what could.

My expectations of Brady probably don’t match his of himself…..so, “let’s see what happens”……

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

He brings an ethos AND level of play to the table.
You’re going to dig down for a guy who, you KNOW that when the game is on the line that, you can trust him to win it. It’s human nature.

Brady doesn’t have to work miracles. If his influence raises the bar for a handful of guys, that alone is good for another few wins. Add in the lower interceptions and elimination of pick 6’s, there’s another couple of wins. So now we’re in the playoffs, and what QB would you rather have in a playoff game? We’re legit contenders this year, barring major injuries to key guys.

@Joe … “Will he motivate guys to practice and prepare and play 110 percent? Yeah, probably.” Two thoughts here Joe. One – Never figured out how anyone gives MORE than 100%. For instance, when you donate blood, have you ever told them “Sure, go ahead and take 110% of my blood, no problem” … Nope, can’t be done.

Two – Sean Payton hit the nail on the head when he said “He (Brady) is going to elevate everyone’s work ethic. They are going to get a chance to see how HARD he works and how SMART he works.” Jameis worked hard apparently. Kudos. Brady works hard AND smart. If his example motivates others on the team to ‘work smart’ in addition to working hard we’ll be a much better TEAM.

You know how when you fast for extended periods of time you prime your body for growth if you give it the right nutrients? We’ve been fasting for a decade and Tom Brady is the ultimate concoction of anabolic nutrients and minerals. Expect big lasting growth. Ok this is starting to sound like an ED drug commercial but y’all get the point 😂

It’s all good. “Anybody but WinSTUNNED” will work. Purged the team of the fake leaders mcSofty and Uber man. Meter pointing straight up!

    @Matt

EXCELLENT!!! Thanks for that creative post. What wonderful metaphor!!!

As someone who works out and “sometimes” LMAO pays attention to my nutrition I found it very enlightening. I have frequently fasted and observed exactly what you post. And heaven knows as a football franchise we’ve been on a long and extreme extended fast.

Not sure about the ED though. Not sure my fasts have ever improved that area of my performance…thankfully I have a sexy wife for any ED problems.

I of course am one of the more exuberant optimistic posters here. I like everything except for ONE thing.

I fear what the Covid is going to do to our prep.

We are in a division with one team in same boat as us…Carolina and in fact their talent level doesn’t approach ours…but they will be trying to assemble the parts of a new “team”.

Atlanta will not have that challenge…Matty Ice can throw the ball to JJ in his sleep.

And New Orleans didn’t even have to reload this year. They simply added a tiny bit of icing to their already impressive cake. They have as much or more talent as us…I like to believe our D is going to surpass theirs but I have to give them their props until we do.

And at QB…Brees versus TB12 is classic…except that Brees has the same well oiled machine he’s operated the past few years.

My ONLY real concern is how much time we’ll have to get our TEAM on the same page against a rival in N.O. that is a very well oiled, experienced, well coached team.

Hopefully we can catch them this year and then surpass them next year.

There it is in a nutshell for me…can we beat the Covid and then can we beat N.O. Time will tell. I certainly make no forecasts.

  14. Sport Says:

DR – percentages are sneaky. They require a time element (or snapshot of time) which gives you the above 100%.

In your blood example. You are correct. If you give all your blood in one sitting (~10 pints). That’s it 10/10 = 1 or 100%

    Let’s look at this scenario, if a healthy person donates a healthy amount of blood (1 pint every 60 days for 5 years = 30 pints) that’s 30/10 = 3 or 300%.

To correlate to “effort”, it is continuous and over time, you can give more than 100%, just not all at once.

You probably didn’t lay out that question expecting an answer but there it is.

As always, appreciate your posts and presence!
