Where will new Bucs defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. play?
Winfield weighed in on that, and Joe’s very curious to get Bucco Bruce Arians’ answer later.
Winfield was specific with Joe and other local media, saying “free safety and nickel” when asked about now he perceived his fits in the Tampa Bay defense. Obviously, his knowledge of the defense largely is limited to what was discussed in video chats with Bucs officials, but the nickel answer was intriguing.
If the Bucs think Winfield is a nickel, then that would prompt fantastic competition for outside cornerback spots among Jamel Dean, Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting., and maybe the Bucs could find a veteran safety later or develop Mike Edwards, a third-round pick last year.

Negative. Exactly what we need at safety. Hard hitting ball hawk with speed all over. SMB was one of the best rookie nickel CB and I’ll keep Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean outside deflecting passes and this guy diving for picks. Loving the hard hitter safety set up with Winfield and Whitehead.

No experiment with Winfield. He is a ball hawking safety who will be a stud in our D. Whitehead and Edward’s can battle it out for the other spot. I wish Evan’s could get healthy but he cant be relied on at this point. Great pick for certain.

Winfield =MK Stewart=R. Smith Still need to trade Howard & lazy ass D. Smith for T. Williams. Of course listening to BA & Licht Smith is the best LT in the leaugue. Thays why they overpaid him. What a genius move.
