Tom Brady’s Number Decided

March 31st, 2020

Did he give in?

The news the world has been waiting for!

No, it’s not a vaccine to squash the corona. Or a cure for cancer.

Indeed! It’s what number new Bucs quarterback Tom Brady will wear.

Brady, who wore No. 10 when playing at Michigan, and who has worn No. 12 throughout his NFL career with New England, will wear…

[drumroll]

No. 12.

The previous owner of No. 12, wide receiver Chris Godwin, has given it up, reports Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. Per Smith, Brady did not have to cough up cash like DeSean Jackson had to fr Adam Humphries so he could have No. 11.

And Godwin will now wear No. 14.

Back to work!

  1. SKBucsFan Says:

I’d give the number up to if I wanted the ball thrown my way. Kind of a no brainer!

  2. Ndog Says:

For the record and for those of you that care that there are other members of the team, Godwin will now wear 14.

  3. Elita Vita Says:

Now that the number 12 mystery is solved, perhaps it’s time to reveal what the new uniforms will look like! Bucs fans need something to keep them going as we wait for the draft!

  4. '79 Defense Says:

    I like it. Brady 12, Evans 13, Godwin 14.

  5. JimmyJack Says:

He did the right thing not asking for money. Everybody knows Brady took less then he could have demanded to come here. Plus now Chris gets to showcase himself on Prime Time!!! And you know all the fantasy geeks will be glued on Chris.

  6. Jason Says:

SK nailed it. Plus when we are in the red zone (aka money making time) he can just look to Tb12 and say “you look in that number 12.”

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

makes sense anyway, the #12 throwing to #13 and #14

  8. JP09 Says:

No one cares ndog, this is Brady’s team now. Time to sit back and watch how the position should be played

Elita Vita, I’m ready to see the new uniforms too, at least tell us the damn date of the reveal lol

  9. Destinjohnny Says:

Chris Is a pros pro man.
    Love this guy
Hey Sb u owe me a jersey
    Get me Godwins

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He’ll get a bonus for making the Probowl, and barring injury he will. We’ll have 5-6 make it this year.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Unless they are playing in the Superbowl.

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

Godwin is a good dude, all the way around.

  13. MTM Says:

Brady’s new sports centers are going to be called TB12. Godwin could have held out and asked for a buyout.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Elita Vita, I agree!

I’m not ordering my jerseys until I can get them in the new Uniforms…and I will be getting multiple jerseys.

  15. Jean Lafitte Says:

I’m wondering out loud if Scotty Miller will be the permanent slot receiver.

Brady’s new little receiver version of Julian Edelman?

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How smart is Chris Godwin…….take care of your new QB……great PR….

And…..he has a very big restructure of his contract coming…..the jersey number move will bode well with Licht & the Bucs……

  17. Adrnagy Says:

Garbage of a post and of a writer. ! Who do you think you are to tell ppl if they did right or wrong ?

    Go back to New York.

He did the right thing not asking for money. Everybody knows Brady took less then he could have demanded to come here. Plus now Chris gets to showcase himself on Prime Time!!! And you know all the fantasy geeks will be glued on Chris.

  18. Ndog Says:

This will never be Brady’s team, just like he is not our QB and nothing will ever change that. He put in to much time in New England to be anything other than their QB.

Winning with Brady will be like bragging about living in your parents mansion. It’s nice and all but you know you didn’t earn it and it feels sooooooo much better to show off your mansion, you know that you actually earned the hard way and didn’t have to rely on someone else to come in and do it for you.

  19. BigHog Says:

JimmyJack: he got all we could afford to give him, no other team offered him as much …he’s a 42 year old man and by taking CG12’s number shows he isn’t team first, he is all about TB12!!

  20. Adrnagy Says:

Some folks in here just say stupid stuff or “try to correct others “ thinking they’re right all the time.
    Like jimmy two face jack.

    Get off my dick.

  21. ZZbuc Says:

Ndog, I get that you are a JW fan…….I get it….but you must be carefull when you cross the line to stupidity zone……You´ll never come back…..and seems you are close to…….Be safe!

  22. adam from ny Says:

chris just became tom gravy’s favorite receiver before they even got started…

    smart move by chris…

a lot more was at stake here tho…

ownership wants brady to wear number 12 as well…

they need to get a jump on things with producing those number 12 jerseys asap…

godwin is keeping everyone happy, and in turn they will make him a happy young man moving forward…

i’m pretty sure there has been some sort of compensation from either tom or the powers that be that is unpublicized…

there is a lot of money to be made with brady wearing number 12 as a buc – and they jumped on it fast

  23. SOEbuc Says:

    I like #14.

  24. adam from ny Says:

    #AllAboardTheGravyTrain #TB12hasArrived

  25. james west Says:

i’m happy for brady, and i think it was good of godwin, and if anyone does not believe that this is bradys team now, i have to say, lay the pipe down, and get off the bud, u have become delusional

  26. Pewter Power Says:

Duh……why is media so damn dramatic about nonsense. Media are the ones who come up with stupid news like Edelman and AB to Bucs just to stir things up

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Joe are they giving anyone a particular date on new jersey’s. They said April and tomorrow is April first. You would think they would release them early as possible with this continuous bombing economy.

  28. WestChap Says:

Will Joe promise to shut down the Jaboohoo Crying Game that a certain group of posters insist on playing with every story after some appropriately dignified grieving period? Preferably before Jameis gets another job… not sure we can last that long.

  29. MadMax Says:

Nice! Thank you Godwin!!!! Team player right there!!!!

Good things coming your way Chris…you know that already!

    Can you imagine
    Evans
    Godwin
    Claypool
Clyde for the checkdown…pfft! Man puhleeze! Just stop it!! LOL

  30. jmarkbuc Says:

I hope CG14 got TB12 to make a contribution to Team Godwin Foundation.

    http://www.teamgodwin.org

And NDog, if you don’t get help here, please get help somewhere

  31. America's Turnover Machine Says:

    Now, reveal the new uniforms.

  32. jmarkbuc Says:

Smartest move JW could make is to play baseball..Seriously. If he can swallow his pride.

  33. jmarkbuc Says:

    NDog

So if we lose with TB12, you say “I told you so”

If we win with Brady you say ” it doesn’t count”

    Just trying to be clear.

  34. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

    To Godwin.

This is the second time you made me your fan.

  35. Ndog Says:

First of all jmarkbuc if you truly believe Jameis is done playing football then you can’t be helped.

Secondly I never said it wouldn’t count it just won’t feel the way it should feel and they way it felt back in 2002 and they way it would feel that is somebody else’s QB. And with that there is no right or wrong it’s the way I and I know many many many others feel like as well. So do I hope we win it all, your damn right, but I also know I would’nt be even close to as happy as I would be with our guys, not someone else’s.

There was nothing like watching Mike Alstott, Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Ronde Barber, John Lynch, Shelton Quarles, etc… FINALLY win it all after seeing all the struggle they went through. Even Gruden, Keyshaun, Brad Johnson, Simeon Rice, Michael Pittman, Kerry Jenkins, etc… never won anything before coming here, so that was special.

There is no way on earth anyone that’s a Bucs fan can say they would even come close to feeling that way if Tom Brady won his 7th Superbowl here. There is just no way.

  36. ManzielMadness Says:

    @jmark

Sad to say this will he view of some of the JW fans, if we do win it’ll be because the FO decided to get Brady help or the kicker didn’t shank the last kicks etc. best not to even argue when the other person views himself as always correct…

  37. Bucsfanman Says:

And the stupidity in posting continues….

No-brainer, never expected anything else! Godwin is the man, regardless of number.

  38. destinjohnny Says:

  39. jmarkbuc Says:

    NDog

I don’t disagree that what Dungy/McKay built from the ground up was special…what might have been…..

Watching Gruden/Allen tear it down was a crime.

But to say I wouldn’t take winning with TB12 because he’s not Jaboo would be a ridiculous lie. What is on the team now is what it is, and if Tom can win here I don’t have a problem with it.

  40. jmarkbuc Says:

..and I’m serious about the baseball…but only if he’s actually good.

Think about the story line..made for TV/Media.

  41. youngbucs Says:

Ndog it’s over bro seriously we understand.
But every article u do this.

  42. Ndog Says:

Again you guys read what you want to read. Where did I said one word about winning without Jameis in the post above? Show me?

  43. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Ndog – so you’re saying that it wouldn’t be the same if we won with TB like we did in 2002 season with Brad Johnson. So are you saying that Brad Johnson was a long time Buc before reaching the Superbowl? Look again chief.

You are boring with your constant negativity and your howling about the “great” Jameis Winston – and I went to school in Tallahasee and am an FSU fan.

Support the Bucs or take a hike bro.

  44. lowercaseg Says:

    love 14.

  45. JimmyJack Says:

Good grief NDog you are slipping hard bro. You quite literally just stated that any winning this team does will be in vane because it is not done with Winston.

Wow dude. Just wow. You basically just turned your back on the team now with a statement like that…….You are putting your own opinion above the betterment of the team with a statement like that.

I want to actually question your fandom with a statement like that. But I do understand you are very emotionally attached to Winston. You maybe just need a little time to cope this and are still somewhatentally shattered…….For your sake and for the sake of the fanbase I hope you heal and can get past this. We need more diehards not less…….But of you can’t I wager we’ll be fine……..The influx of bandwagoners we are getting will be sure to breed a few extra diehards to eventually take your place.

All the best to you in you’re time of Winston grieving.

  46. jmarkbuc Says:

    NDog

“Where did I said one word about winning without Jameis in the post above? Show me?”

It’s implied in nearly every one of your posts…not just the one.

Life right now, as well as in the sports world is bad enough.

    Let it go.

  47. Smashsquatch Says:

No brainer and class move by Godwin. Winning a SB with TB will taste just as good as the one we brought home with the former Viking QB. This Bucs team has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, we just need a QB to manage the game and not give it away. Brad Johnson had six interceptions in 2002.

  48. JimmyJack Says:

And nobody is just reading what they want NDog……Perhaps you should reread yourself…….Perhaps you are so mentally shattered about this you don’t even realize we what you are saying? I don’t know bro.

2:58 post second paragraph, 1st sentance. That’s you talking about winning without Winston.

  49. youngbucs Says:

    Jimmy jack exactly

  50. SteelStudBuc Says:

It sure is funny watching Npuppy cry over losing J-booboo…
Let it go… it’s over… this is addition by subtraction

  51. Ndog Says:

JimmyJack show me where I said anything about not winning with Jameis. Show me? Again you people are just proving you can’t read. You get more CLUELESS by the day, as I said nothing about Jameis other than to respond to the idiotic comment about him playing baseball. I said nothing about us not winning with or without him.
In case you can’t figure it out, which clearly you can’t cause you’re simply not bright enough, I’m talking about the journey, the struggle as that is what makes winning fun, not getting a guy who has done it 6 freaking times already, there’s no fun in that. And yes Brad Johnson was a huge piece because he got benched at FSU bounced around the NFL had not won crap before us and WAS PART OF THE STRUGGLE which again is what makes winning special.

You guys are probably part of the instant gratification crowd that doesn’t want to work for anything so I get it, but just know you will never know what winning should really feel like.

  54. John Says:

As long as all parties agree to the number change without any hard feelings that is great. We simply do not want any negativity surrounding this team and it seems like these two men worked it out….

  55. JimmyJack Says:

You know what NDog…..I do enjoy a good argument with you. But this is not one of them. I honestly just feel like your falling off the deep end with this one. I’ve actually never saw a poster meltdown like this. To be honest I am kinda concerned for you.

So I think it’s best right now just to tell you that you are right. I was wrong and you are right. I don’t think I was reading what you wrote properly. Musta just misconstrued something. I went back and re-read the entire thread and you was 100% right bro. Sorry bout that.

  56. jmarkbuc Says:

First of all jmarkbuc if you truly believe Jameis is done playing football then you can’t be helped.

JimmyJack you don’t have to tell me anything because it’s all laid out for anyone to read. You are saying I posted things I didn’t post so you are lying and that is the end of it. Arguments can be fun but not when one of the parties starts lying about the other. There’s no deep end and I’m not losing my mind I just know how I feel and I have basically have little to no excitement for this team right now cause we aren’t a team we are the Tampa Bay Brady’s and if you think guys think LVD or Marpet or Donovan Smith or Mike Evans or Godwin will get any love if we do win the Superbowl your crazy it will be 100% Brady. I had more excitement when our QB was freaking Bruce Gradkowski than I do now and that’s because he was OUR QB not somebody else’s that we are just borrowing.

    I’m done!

  62. MadMax Says:

Lol @jimmy, yeah, the dog is always right….he’s the man, im all about it.

  69. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Speaking of T.m.a.x….

    Is he good?
Have not heard from in awhile.
    These days, you don’t know.
    Hope all is well, man.

  70. Joe in Michigan Says:

My question is, after every post winds up being an argument, why would anyone argue with someone you can’t reason with? Someone who is infatuated with a player that’s no longer on the team, all they can talk about is the ex-player and not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Let them argue with themself, IMHO.

  71. Blue-footed booby Says:

So according to Ndog, if the Los Angeles Lakers were to win a championship with Lebron James leading their franchise, it won’t count because Lebron was already self-made from his time in Cleveland and Miami.

Lol whatever soothes Ndog’s mind I guess, and I still clearly remember Ndog earlier a month or two ago talking about how Bill Belichick would pick up and sign Winston to become a Patriot and lead New England to more success. Hey, Jaymiss is still on the open market and it sure seems Belichick is NOT interested in Jaymiss.

  72. NDog is an idiot Says:

    Yep.Ndog is an idiot

  73. Rod Munch Says:

    Godwin wearing Vinny’s number…

I don’t like it, 14 is a bad number for a WR. Should have went with something in the 80s.

  74. JimmyJack Says:

NDog…..I had already conceeded to you. That was uncalled for.

You won the argument. No need to still worry about it.

  75. Howard Cosell Says:

    Godwin don’t care!
Alpha male players like Godwin couldn’t care less about silly numbers!

This is probably a Glazer thing…for them the Brady hire is about media visibility translating to increased revenue. So they want as much Brady continuity as possible…..winning?….pffft!……sure, whatever floats your boat.

Get ready bucs rubber-neckers…..this might turn out great (for the 1st time in Glazer-brat history), or it could be just another disappointing year of let-downs, implosions and finger-pointing.
Unfortunately Howard has to take the latter because leopards don’t change their spots

  76. JimmyJack Says:

    Rod Munch……How dare you call 14 Vinny’s number!!! I demand a retraction!!

Once somebody brings more glory to a number it no longer belongs to it’s former owner.

  77. Blue-footed booby Says:

And not just Lebron, but also the Toronto Raptors winning a championship doesn’t count according to Ndog since Kawhi Leonard was already self made from his time in San Antonio Spurs, and the Denver Broncos won a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning at the helm even though he too was self-made from his time in Indianapolis.

Granted in Peyton’s case he was already in decline at that point but Peyton still undoubtedly lifted that Broncos franchise when he arrived in 2012 with consistent double digit winning seasons, first round byes, pro bowl caliber production, and a MVP award in 2013. But hey Ndog says none of that counts because all those guys were self made.

  78. WestChap Says:

Listen, Brady as final piece will feel different from Gruden as final piece. Gruden was a wunderkind who had no hardware before Bucs whereas Brady has a closet full of shiny trophies. However, the difference doesn’t make it any less special… and, in fact, being associated with Brady for eternity is an upgrade before a single game has even been played.

I’m fine with the Gruden won with Dungy’s team arguments… false as they are. And I’ll be fine with any argument Brady won with the receivers Jameis trained up for him… farcical as that would be. But its just not ok to be sooo negative that you appear to be wishing failure upon the Bucs and their new QB just so you can say “I told you so”. Its a bad look.

Now maybe this 8pm comments upgrade Joe’s doing will enhance the site’s “quality control” capabilities… maybe look at the poster’s IP address instead of just chosen screen name when deciding whether to block? Just a thought.

  79. JimmyJack Says:

Great post WestChap…….And it goes to show you how it’s all just opinions…….If the media wants to play Gruden won with Tony’s team that that’s what they’ll do. Their job is to find a narritive. If they say we won because we knew the playbook then let em have at it.

None of that took away from how special that team was. Not for me anyways.

But we all different. Some fans must just live and die with what the media tells them……After all we do hear all the time fans complaining about how the media treats our team.

It’s no skin off my mind. I can have my own opinions without suckling to the media’s teet. But understand many fans can’t…….If the media’s going to tell them Brady is the only reason we won them fans are gonna believe it. Kinda sad but that’s reality.

  84. Kansas95Buc Says:

I’m late to the party but Ndog does have a good point about Brady winning a championship here. If he does, it’ll be all about him and not the team, the headlines would be something like ‘Brady takes lowly Bucs to promise land’ and would barley mention other players that been here years before him.
