Safety First

March 21st, 2020

Clean with the ball.

Perhaps Mr. No-Risk-It-No-Biscuit got a little too full of the risk?

It seems the Bucs flipping quarterbacks this week boils down to safety, pure and simple. The 30 presents from Santa Claus Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, didn’t do the Bucs many favors in close games, no matter his off-the-charts production.

And if that is the sole reason why Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians brought in Tom Brady, it’s mission accomplished, per jet-flyin’, kiss–stealin‘, data-analyzin’, Bucs-film-studyin’, limousine-ridin’ Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times.

The fact Jameis had so many picks on the opening possession suggested to Joe that something was up with the scripted plays.

Joe remembers asking Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich if Jameis or someone on offense was tipping plays. Let’s just say that question didn’t go over very well.

If Brady all of a sudden has a spike in picks on opening drives, that is damn near rock-solid proof to Joe that someone is tipping plays some way, somehow.

Staring down and visual tendencies…aka…tipping plays.

  2. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

A running back that scares the he!! out of defenses would fix that.

  3. Buddhaboy19 Says:

That is mostly on JayMiss, but a certain % has to be on coaching as well.

  4. Ndog Says:

See this is the kind of crap the media needs to just STOP. First of all your not losing a entire game on the first possession, second Jameis is gone why the constant need to compare him to the greatest QB of all time. Everyone, especially the media like this tool, got want they wanted he is gone now so let him be gone and leave him there he!! alone. It’s going to turn out like it turns out no matter how many times they try to convince people they were right. Just let it and him go what’s so hard about that?

  5. BucFanBlack Says:

Bruce has already acknowledged that an interception on the opening drive does not lose the game. Not minimizing Jameis’ turnovers in any way, but wanted to provide insight into how our own head coach has stated he views opening drive pics.

  6. Robert Says:

It’s called an audible………pfft… blaming it on a play gtfo

  8. BrianBucs Says:

Winston’s 30 picks hurt the team far worse than his 5100 yards helped them.
Now that Winston is gone and Brady is here, it feels like the big, dark storm clouds have passed and the sun has come out bright.
Arians knew that he couldn’t win with Winston. So he told the Glazers that and they got him the G.O.A.T.
It’s A new day in Tampa Bay. Go Bucs!!!

  9. mark2001 Says:

    Ndog…agree 100%.

What is under the bridge, is under the bridge.

Why the need to keep criticizing? Makes no sense to me to do so.

  10. MadMax Says:

Well, JW did have a tendency to look at where he was going often….especially staring down receivers (plus the play calling wasnt very creative). I dont think he meant to do it, its just the way he is. Thats why you need fast readability and decision making….and why we moved on. Thats something that will probably never get fixed from him.

  11. stpetebucsfan Says:

Scripted plays COULD be a part of it…perhaps the coaches scripted the wrong opening plays…OR perhaps…”Mr Excitement” is also known as “Mr Excitable” (old school translation choker).

He comes out of the tunnel so amped up you wonder if the training staff has just had him guzzle a gallon of Red Bull followed by a few Mountain Dews. Sometimes the look in his wide open eyes makes me choke.

And so if “Mr Excitable” is known for collapsing under pressure…Brady is known for exactly the opposite.

  12. MadMax Says:

Hey Ndog, sorry for getting out of hand the other day…i got pretty tanked up on tekillya while celebrating the signing. The hangover hit me hard too, i paid for it.

  13. james west Says:

i’m with ya brianbucs, hey ya’ll let’s come together, winston is gone, and if you have been following this club for any length of time, we have seen this before, williams, freeman, testeverde, garcia, johnson, king, yada yada yada, stay focused on who we got know under center, it’s going to be a short run, i am more concerned on who is coming after brady, although i am thrilled we get him, for a short time, i am hoping they draft one this season, to learn and get groomed by the goat, and just maybe we will finally get over the hump

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NDOG

He literally betrayed the team and its fans his first off season after the franchise gambled away a #1 pick in the draft. He lied about it and tried a coverup with Ronald Darby…a player known to have excellent character. *snark font off*

So lots of really dumb stuff gets posted here…often by ME!

Today I’m going to lead the crowd of dummies with the DUMBEST question of the day….Do we suppose we can now put the picture of our QB on Rayjay? *sarcasm font off*

  15. tickrdr Says:

More reckless = more yards and TDS.
More reckless = more INTs and pick6’s too.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    That’s 320 (perhaps a few less) first series’ for Brady & 13 picks 4%. career…

  17. BUC40 Says:

New QB. JW is gone. Move on.

  18. Hethrew 30 Says:

OMG, so stupid. Proof of nothing. This must be from Joe the Jameis Lover.

  19. Wesley Says:

I’m glad we moved on from Winston but Thomas Bassinger is a complete idiot. It’s disappointing that Joe would would even mention his dumb ass.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

    Still defending Winston.

    :sigh:

Some never forget their first love…

  21. Jean Lafitte Says:

Bassinger only stated truth it’s Joe spinning the crap.

  22. Bucs_Fan_Orlando Says:

Who is Jamies? I thought this site was about Bucs players?

I will say, it’s feel great to be awoken from such a long nightmare.

The air feels fresher, the water is wetter, sun seems brighter…..

It’s a new day in a bucs life.

  23. Jon Says:

I actually believe they did script and not hide tendencies. Db and linebacker were jumping those out routes. Idc how good you are or bad I’m telling you something tipped them off.

  24. Ed Says:

Winston, is not the starting Quarterback for the Buc’s Please leave the man alone. Why do you continue to write articles about Winston. When he was here you wrote negative articles about the man. How about writing about the last half of Brady season in 2019 with Patriots. The Buc’s guarantee 50 million cap hell, because a G.M. trying to save his job and very old coach with a ego that is bigger then the team. What have this coach won that makes him a better coach then other coaches. He will retire when this experiment goes bad. Big different between Coach Bill Belichick and Coach ego. The Buc’s locker room is already split.

  25. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

It’s funny how many people still go to that AUTOMATIC response of…
“Oh look someone is defending Jameis again”.

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the POINT of the article is that there could have been something up last year with the scripted plays…. that we were somehow tipping our hand.

It’s something that Arians, Leftwich & Brady should really look into, and put their minds together with some “self scouting”. I am sure they can fix it.

  26. Bird Says:

    Ed

    They werent negative
After the Carolina game – 6 turnovers
    Called a mixed bag
Just so you know..joe hates brady pic

  27. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

MadMax, It’s very cool when someone is not afraid to throw a post like that out there. Very cool and nicely done. It happens to all of us.

  28. John Says:

More excuses for “America’s Quarterback” and his poor performance…. As far as we know he STILL hasn’t been offered a job, even as a water boy….. Huh

  29. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Joe remembers asking Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich if Jameis or someone on offense was tipping plays. Let’s just say that question didn’t go over very well.”

Hmmm, did Byron put you in Moderation Joe like JBF seems to be doing more & more to myself & some others nowadays for some reason?

And I know, this is going into the cooler also.

  30. Adrnagy Says:

He threw,bird,geno711 are far better gossip than Khloe,Kim,kourtney……
Well I’ll still take the girls .

Aside from gossip, not much difference….

  32. Adrnagy Says:

Jameis will continue to be the best QB bucs ever had. And yes that’s including the horrible tea he inherited.

From today on Bruce is no longer the qb whisperer , he likes them already accomplished.

I need to find a new nickname …

  33. MadMax Says:

@TBDemon thanks….i know i got carried away the other day.

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog, seriously?

”Just let it and him go what’s so hard about that?”

    Pot meet kettle

  35. MadMax Says:

@adrnagy, or drunk…i was pretty tanked….btw, thought you were leaving this site, i mean you said it…but stick around if you want, i dont care.

  36. stpetebucsfan Says:

    D.R.

I have a feeling Joe loves your posts. He obviously doesn’t agree with all of them but you post very well…no hyperbole…no ad hom attacks.

Joe has said this so I’ll repeat as someone who had 50% of my posts this morning delayed in moderation and the other 50 show up right away.

Joe does not write code so he’s left with the hassle of fetching our posts booted by some algorithm or what I’m beginning to view skeptically as an oxymoron….Artificial intelligence.

  37. Tony1775 Says:

Jameis sucked. Ba bye!!!, have a wonderful time!

  38. /formerly/whats the bucs plan 2020/ now OMG !2020 WE HAVE THE GOAT Says:

huh…. i could swore ndog said a while back he was gonna leave this site if jaymiss winsnot wasnt resigned

  39. Rod Munch Says:

So Winston isn’t as good as the best QB to ever play the game.

    Got it, thanks for sharing.

  40. Dapostman Says:

    Gee I don’t know.

No one in the backfield on second and 6 and Donovan Smith set in pass pro.

If I could literally call most plays before the snap I think the other team could too.

  41. Doug Says:

    Fire the cannons!!
    – no more McCOy or Winston, things are looking up.

  42. Chris l Says:

Tom bassinger is a miserable person. Nothing makes that guy happy. He should run his own franchise since he thinks he is so smart.

  43. JimbobBucsFan Says:

It is nice see an apology from one fan to another here once in a while.

    Way to go MadMax!

Strong differences of opinion is one thing. Attacking each other is another.

  44. Pick6King Says:

Joe is absolutely obsessed with Jamoist. It’s truly quite sad. You would think he’d be excited to have the greatest of all time as our new QB. He really thought Winston should have gotten a long term deal with Tampa. Notice that zero teams in need of a starting quarterback had any interest in him???? The facts are killing Joe and the nuthuggers. I can’t wait until he throws more pick sixes for another team, and or commits more criminal sexual assaults. That might shut them up. But probably not.

    #TomTerrific. #JamoistSucks

  45. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

You mean by starting down receivers?? Yeah don’t think that’ll be a problem with Tom… Even if they were tipped off its still up to Winston to not throw the pick

  46. Defense Rules Says:

StPete … I really don’t spend THAT much time in the cooler. Joe’s running a business, and there are liabilities that come along with that. I get that. I’ve worked with computers since 1981 and believe me, I wouldn’t spend 1 minute of my time trying to write the algorithms for sites like this. I don’t have that kind of patience.
