Jimmy Johnson Talks Tom Brady

March 31st, 2020

FOX Sports’ Jimmy Johnson.

Joe’s memorable chat with Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson at the Super Bowl was fun.

Johnson, who publicly said in November that it was time to move on from Jameis Winston, was adamant that success in the NFL is about limiting bad plays more than making good ones.

So it’s no surprise that Johnson was all in favor of the Bucs’ move to sign Brady, so he told FOX Football Now this week. Johnson even said he saw it coming for a long time.

Why does Johnson think it’s a fit? Johnson likes the Tampa Bay receivers and Johnson really jacked up his enthusiasm about the other side of the football. “They’ve got an outstanding defense as well,” he said.

And Johnson went back for another slap at Brady’s predecessor. “The thing that Jameis Winston wouldn’t do is protect the football.”

No need to worry about Coronavirus screwing up Brady’s chemistry with his pass catchers, Johnson said, noting he can “get up to speed with receivers in a couple of weeks.”

Add him to Ndoggs list of idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about.

  2. LaMarcus Says:

This team is BORING without Jameis. I want Jameis back!!!! Brady can kick rocks back to NE where he came from and Brady drama is boring

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Brady & his receivers can keep the recommended 6′ social distance…..and play pitch and catch to their heart’s desire…..
Our previous defensive backs unfortunately kept that 6′ distance during games. Those days have changed.

  4. Dlavid Says:

Protect the football ! Man how many times have we heard that statement the last several weeks ! Poor Lee must be miserable hearing all these Hall of Fame players , coaches etc schooling him on the game of football . Lee , you will never live it down … just as Tom Jones all in on giving Josh Freeman the hundred million contract and Scott Reynolds picking the Eagles over the Bucs I the 2003 NFC conf. Championship !

  5. Pick6King Says:

    @Joe

Get used to Jamoist being kicked in the teeth by anyone with a brain.

Without dual pro bowl wide receivers, he’s just a third tier QB.

And it’s quite telling that no team wants him.

The Bucs will make the playoffs with Brady and you won’t be able to enjoy it. Due to your man love for the turnover machine.

  6. Ndog Says:

Doesn’t anyone find it curious that we have maybe the greatest QB of all time on our team and the biggest free agent signing since Reggie White yet everyone feels the need to take a shot at Jameis?

Doesn’t all of this smell just a little bit, even to the most ardant Jameis non-truthers (you like that I avoided haters for the sensative ones)?

  7. Ndog Says:

Also I love these national guys talking about OUR TEAM like they watched any of our games. Come on guys you are better than that. Do you really believe Jimmy Johnson sat down and watched our game vs Seattle out of all the games that were going on do you think he watched us? Do truly believe Jimmy freaking Johnson say down and watched us and the Giants in week 3?

He’s just like most of you goobers he looks at the box score, then the highlights and says man the Bucs gave up 30 plus to Daniel Jones, it must have been all those short fields they had to work with, man that Jameis stinks.

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

I’ll take boring wins anyday. 15 home victories in 5 years and 24 home ints last year. Yep, I’ll take boring victories over entertaining losses everyday of the week.

  9. MTM Says:

So chalk up another coach who doesn’t like turnovers. No turnovers seems to be trending these days. #imballin

  10. Craig Says:

I don’t need a team that drives me to drink. I need a team that can win.

You don’t need to watch all of the Bucs games to know that the right move was made. Anytime you see a piece of a Bucs game you see a turnover, you don’t need to see more.

Last season ended up as a joke to me, to keep me from breaking out the booze when Jameis boneheaded another play.

Watch London and the last two games of the season, that is all you need to know.

It’s not about any 1 particular gm.
It’s about a body of work.

  12. Jean Lafitte Says:

If these test kits are real and accurately give you a diagnosis in 5 minutes then it would allow each player to test themselves before a work-out together in real time rather than having to wait days for a result. If a player test positive then stay home. I’m sure team doctors can procure these test when readily available.

  13. Pewter Power Says:

And Johnson went back for another slap at Brady’s predecessor.

How the hell is that a slap at Winston? Dude leads the league in turnovers every year, it’s not a slap it’s reality!!!! Rare is Winston leading the league in passing, common is throwing picks and fumbling. the new jay cutler, began his career as a starter and will end it as a backup only occasionally getting a chance to prove he can protect the ball as a starter. This year he will finally learn to be humble and it’s the best thing to happen to him. Passing yards isn’t as important as protecting the ball. Being benched by Koetter was a Winston issue not an issue with the offense or play caller

  14. 2020 Year of the GOAT Says:

    just win baby!!!!

  15. WestChap Says:

Jean, spot on! These 15 min (or 5 mins if you’re the President) tests will ultimately be produced at such a scale that their availability will exceed the numbers medically necessary… and then we can look forward to using the surplus as a TSA-like screening experience for players to get into NFL training camps, NBA games, etc. We’ll probably all be watching remotely with empty stands for a while but baby steps towards normalcy will begin sooner than we think.

  16. Chris K Says:

No, LaMarcus, you got it backwards. If you need the excitement (madness) of Jameis, then it’s you who can kick rocks. 👋

  17. J Says:

Jimmy Johnson is known for reviewing game film, so yes I believe him.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

Jimmy is the only one that has made it clear that we have an outstanding defense so I’ll listen to what he has to say about us. Shaq got 19.5 sacks and JPP and Suh are coming back. We were one of the top run defenses in the league and a young secondary will be better in Bowels year two.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

And Lararcus decrees “I want Jameis back” ……..what a riot!!!…..Good Good my man. That is for sure up there with one of the most pitiful comments I have read.

  20. Hodad Says:

I love Jameis now that he’s gone.

  21. Sha Says:

I get some of you guys like Jameis, but are you seriously wanting to rather keep Jameis over Brady? Are you guys ok with 7-9 seasons and nothing to play for? This Winston mancrush is weird if you guys are actual fans who want to win and have hope for a season lol. Brady just made you guys SB contenders, appreciate what you have.

  22. LaMarcus Says:

    Jimmy jack

    Define pitiful…..

  23. LaMarcus Says:

    Sha

Yes. I’ll keep JW over Brady

Now Brady 5 years ago would be a different story. Ill choose Brady of course

  24. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

LaMarcus – the second half of the season the Bucs D was balling – yet Jameis still threw a NFL RECORD in interceptions. You really want to keep driving down that road? How about you root for the Bucs With boring TB and maybe take up sky diving for the “good Lord we don’t know what Jameis is about to do” rush.

  25. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

Jimmy Johnson is one of the best football talent evaluators in all of football i think I will value his opinion over the gm’s on this site

  26. geno711 Says:

Jimmy Johnson is a smart dude. Knew how to win in college, knew how to win in the pro’s. Then figured out how to ‘retire’ and still make a nice salary by being a guy on television 2 -3 times per week.

Watches games, analyzes players and speaks his mind but does not yell his opinions or insult anyone else.

Once we win in the playoffs and hopefully in the Super Bowl all the Jameis lovers will finally keep quiet!!
