Jimmy Garoppolo And The Bucs

March 10th, 2020

Available?

Since so many Bucs fans are heavy-panting over the prospect of the Bucs moving on from Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, let’s continue to speculate.

Hey, as the creator, curator and overall guru of “Pro Football Talk,” the great Mike Florio often says, “silence invites speculation.” And the Bucs haven’t been the only team that has been silent on their plans for a quarterback in 2020.

So too have the 49ers.

Now since future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady likely will test the free agency waters next week, there has been rampant speculation about where Brady might land. Even Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians pined openly for Brady at the combine last month in Indianapolis.

One rumor that has picked up steam is, strangely, Brady being linked to San Francisco. Now Joe writes “strangely” in that the 49ers were just a couple of plays from winning the Super Bowl last month and have invested heavily in Jimmy GQ, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Why would San Francisco need a quarterback?

Brady is from northern California and grew up a 49ers fan idolizing Joe Montana. So there is one hook.

And despite the 49ers being linked to Brady, crazy as it sounds, you haven’t heard 49ers shot-caller, former Bucs great John Lynch throw cold water on these fires, have you? Now Matt Barrows of The Athletic, a long-time 49ers beat guy, typed up all the comments both Lynch and San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan have said about Jimmy GQ since the Super Bowl ended.

Of course, the two lauded Jimmy GQ with lofty platitudes. Barrows also pointed out how the 49ers talked up Alex Smith shortly before he was traded.

But what about Jimmy GQ’s big contract with San Francisco? The folks at Spotrac.com point out that Jimmy GQ has a potential out in his contract this offseason where the 49ers could move on from Jimmy GQ with only a $4.2 million cap hit.

Now if the Bucs were to step away from Jameis, would Joe be open to Jimmy GQ coming to Tampa Bay? Yes, of course, but there are potholes to dodge.

This past season was the first season Jimmy GQ played a full season without getting hurt. Until 2019, Jimmy GQ was notoriously brittle.

So consider Jimmy GQ played behind a dominant offensive line, which the Bucs do not have. And Jimmy GQ had a strong running game to lean on, which the Bucs clearly do not have.

Joe is just scared that Jimmy GQ (hit 73 times last season), while mobile like Jameis, would snap like a China doll taking as many hits as Jameis did (106).

If the Bucs waved goodbye to Jameis, Joe would be cool with Jimmy GQ despite the possible hazards. After all, how can you not like a quarterback who dates porn stars and is a product of the Harvard of the Midwest?

Brady coming to Tampa lol. You are more likely to find Giselle licking a port o let clean with her tongue than calling Tampa home….after all the contents of a port o let holding tank is more tolerable than the product the glazers have been fielding for nearly two decades

  10. Ivan The Insider Says:

I like all this nonsense always ragging on the Bucs O-Line for “QB Hits” etc.

When your Offensive Coordinator calls far more passing plays than runs, and longer passing plays that take longer to develop, of course the QB is going to get hit more; especially if that QB is known for holding the ball longer than usual which Winston is.

  11. Imon Says:

MadMax: Brady AND OBJ are coming. And we go straight to the NFC Championship before losing to the Niners. Betcha a Burger Monger Lunch Bundle! 🙂

  12. Ivan The Insider Says:

    Marine Buc,

Winston isn’t better than ANY of the QBs. His padded stats and garbage time yards don’t make him better than those QBs. Bucs would WIN more games with those guys over Winston and that’s the whole issue.

  13. MadMax Says:

No Iman, you silly…..Brady is coming here to win a SB with us (no OBJ though), so get it right ‘)

  14. Imon Says:

    Marine Buc: IMHO

JaMarcus Russell > Akili Smith > Nathan Peterman > Johnny Football > Ryan Leaf > Jaboo

    😉

  15. Imon Says:

MadMax, sorry to dispute you but I just got out of my Star Trek Discovery Time Travel Suit and the Niners are going back to the big show. 🙂

  16. Tye Says:

‘many Bucs fans are heavy-panting over the prospect of the Bucs moving on’

    For the sake of WINNING!

  17. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

If he’s always going to be referred to as Jimmy GQ on joebucsfan, I’m kinda hoping he stays put.

  18. EEK Says:

If he were available, almost impossible to imagine, then it would be insane not to try to make a play to get him.

    The dude is great

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How bout that fade in super bowl crunch time? Only 20 yds overthrown lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. BucsFIRE Says:

    Dave Says:
    “you people need a life”

    But you don’t, apparently.
    All hail the mighty Dave.

  23. Marine Buc Says:

I guess I should have clarified better. I was ranking who was more likely to be our QB next year.

  24. Marine Buc Says:

I think chances are high that Winston comes back for at least one more season.

  25. Robert Says:

Brady is coming……..and PULEASE stop acting like jw is some indestructible superhero. he may hav fought through some light things like a hurt thumb, pinky whatever, and a slight MCL tear……but it’s not like the guy fought through a broken arm. he was only on the field for selfish reasons IMO, because Fitz handed him his hat when he came in, and I’m sure he didn’t want to be shown up by RG.

he played slightly hurt and lost us games. that makes him both a “victim” -(please) and a loser.

I’m sure the O line would like for him to play better and make them look better as well…..ever notice the good ones, they always says it’s because they have a great O line. could be the other way around. last I checked our O line is pretty solid big picture wise. If they weren’t they’d be getting let go left and right as much as they are paid!

    anything but crabby!!!!!!!!!

  26. BucsFIRE Says:

^ Coming from someone who has no idea, because you probably never played a sport.

  27. Robert Says:

yeah well, I played one play at ND, and the entire stadium chanted my name and made a sack.

    so, there’s that

  28. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Winston was just seen at the local tires plus getting new tires on his truck he is definitely leaving

  29. soggy Says:

Is that you RUDY? Nice Play..

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

If the 49ers did sign Tom Brady, I could see them trading Jimmy G back to New England. I doubt the Niners would want to help out an NFC team. My humble opinion, anyway.

  31. Robert Says:

thx soggy, my pops was proud!

  32. Pick6King Says:

Blah blah blah blah. Jamoist good, every other QB bad.

Joe would rather lose with the turnover machine than win with anyone else.

    He’s not a Bucs fan, he’s a Jamoist fan.

    #NoPlayoffs

  33. Pewter power Says:

Classic example of media generating a stupid narrative and then exaggerating it to give it more life than it has…..

Plus you keep pushing this nonsense that any quarterback would snap behind this offensive line giving Winston another excuse for his interceptions.

Jimmy G had almost 200 attempts less than winston and because of the run game your saying they had a dominant o line. 73 an hits vs. 106 with 200 less attempts does not sound dominant

  34. Waterboy Says:

At 30 mil, hmmm hard pass.

  35. Chris Says:

First off, to keep calling him GQ Jimmy sounds like you’re jealous. Don’t hate.
Second, Winston is trash, has always been trash except for College, and its been prove time, and time again Pro is way different than College. Being a Niner fan, and not a Brady fan (cheater) I want them to stick with Jimmy, but anything is a step in the right direction for the Bucs.

  36. Terry OHara Says:

You know Fisherman’s Wharf is famous for Crab

  37. BucsFIRE Says:

    ^ So are you.

  38. Hodad Says:

He didn’t throw two pick sixes when he beat us on the road opening day. Jameis people are clueless.

  39. John F Says:

If the Bucs, had “a dominant offensive line, which the Bucs do not have. And had a strong running game to lean on,“ they’d have a better version of Jameis & you wouldn’t be writing this article, wasting our time!

  40. John F Says:

Chris Says, it’s actually “Jimmy GQ.”

  41. Jim Says:

The NDogs bark, but the caravan moves on…

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Brady staying in New England.

  43. WestChap Says:

This article should be titled “Just Trollin’”

  44. Buczilla Says:

Hell no. I’d rather roll with a rookie, Jameis, Brady, Rivers, or Carr. Injury prone players almost ALWAYS stay injury prone.

  45. lambchop Says:

John Lynch will NOT go after Tom Brady. For max 2-3 years of declining service when he has a young talented QB on the rise in Jimmy GQ?

The rumor on this rumor is this is all concocted by the Brady camp – not the 49ers camp.

Tom Brady to San Fran is NEVER going to happen. John Lynch is not stupid.

  46. BAfan Says:

Not a Brady fan and he looked bad in the Patriot games last year. His age caught up with him! The Bucs are foolish trying to lure him here. It would not result in a Super Bowl for the Bucs if they get him, and they would need to waste a top pick on a QB to replace him!
