Jason Licht Speaks

March 17th, 2020

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Whoa! The Bucs general manager speaks on the record in the middle of likely the biggest contract negotiation of his career?

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht broke his silence today — he has spoken publicly once since the end of the 2019 season and that was at the combine last month in Indianapolis. Until today.

Licht spoke with NFL uber-insider Adam Schefter about the current negotiations with the Bucs and future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady.

It seems Licht and the Bucs are in a holding pattern just like the rest of the NFL world is.

Here is a question nearly as important as Brady’s answer will be:

With Teddy Bridgewater going to Carolina and Philip Rivers apparently heading for Indianapolis, if Brady chooses another team than the Bucs, how much is Licht talking to Mr. Excitement, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston?

Or more importantly, if after the Bucs lusted after just about every other free agent quarterback but got stood up at the prom by each, would Jameis want to return to the team that made no secret that he was down a few pegs on the totem pole of desirable quarterbacks?

Brady is dic*ing with us. He already knows he wants to go to LA and is just trying to up their price. Let’s just re-sign Jameis and move on.

  11. TexBuc Says:

Damn the Winston nuthigging is at an all time high. Stop talking like this dude has an option to go anywhere else and start because he doesnt. Yea he is waiting because no other team sees him as a starter. Even with brady as a starter he’d improve his situation by being his backup versus going to like Chicago

Damn what is he gonna do oh brady wont sign hahaha I’m gonna go sign with some other team as a backup to show the bucs I’m upset lol gtfoh

Dsmn the coverage of winston is f-ing pathetic. Hes not Brady Brees or rivers or even teddy or mariota who already has a job stfu with that noise. He will be waiting right here to start and at a realistic salary. He has no market

  20. BigHog Says:

No hurt feelings …this is nothing more than the nasty

  34. D-Rome Says:

would Jameis want to return to the team that made no secret that he was down a few pegs on the totem pole of desirable quarterbacks?

He’s free to be a backup on 31 other rosters or at best compete with Trubisky in Chicago.

In the worst case scenario I’d be fine with the Bucs trading a #1 this year and a #1 next year to move up to draft Joe Burrow. It would probably take more than that.

  35. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Jameis will take the GOAT’s sloppy seconds. What choice does he have if he wants to be a starter?
I still think pretty boi is destined for LA and Jameis will come back on prove it deal and crush it, leaving the Bucs in the same situation but with an actual market for Jameis next offseason.

It would be a good problem to have.

  36. DBS Says:

Every other team went to different QB’s. It should tell Winston right where he stands.

  37. Kansas95Buc Says:

Brady isn’t coming to Tampa, why are we even entertaining this dumb idea? No run game, no kicking game and a suspect defense. Brady is not leaving the easiest division to compete in one of the hardest division

  52. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

It isn’t about how long we’ve had him as much as who are we replacing him with?

Your inability to see Jameis as a talented QB makes you think any QB not named Jameis could be plugged in and it would instantly equal wins.
Sorry but there’s no app for acquiring an instant gratification QB that will take you to the promised land.
I’ve seen Jameis for five years and ive seen about 30 other QBs wearing a Buc’s uniform and none of them really even compare. The big difference is when we were good, we could run the ball and play defense.
So we spend this offseason building up the run game, sign Brady, throw about 150 times less and you idiots will think we are winning because we got rid of Jameis.

  53. BoiseBucsFan Says:

For what it’s worth, Fox sports is reporting Tom Brady will sign with the Buccaneers tomorrow

  54. bucfan999 Says:

This all comes down to what The GOAT wants for the rest of his career. With the Chargers he would be lucky to make the 7 team playoff field in the AFC.

You have to figure the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills and Titans are probably the division leaders right now which leaves spots 5 – 7 and road playoff games. Now for spots 5 – 7 he would be in competition with the Browns, Colts, Steelers (With Big Ben Back), a improved Raiders & Dolphins and never count out the Patriots. In the AFC he would be lucky to get to the playoffs never mind the Super Bowl.

In the NFC with the Bucs there are no real dominant teams like the Ravens or Chiefs. The Saints, 49ers, Seahawks are probably the top 3 with the Packers, Cowboys & Eagles next in line. The Vikings have lost some good players and the Rams seem to be slipping. The Panthers, Lions, Giants & Redskins look to be rebuilding and the Bears don’t have a QB. The Falcons are a losing season from rebuilding but the Cardinals seem to be on the upswing. So in the NFC you probably have the 49ers, Seahawks, Packers, Saints, Cowboys, Eagles, Cardinals & Bucs fighting to reach the Super Bowl.

Which Conference would you want if you were Tom Brady?? If its about winning and Super Bowls I would think Bucs, if its about building his production company, his brand and being closer to his family in California then its the Chargers

  65. Jim Says:

If we get Brady, I expect Jameis to sign as a backup QB with the Steelers with the promise he will be the starter there once their starter retires. Then just watch Jameis win his first of more Super Bowls behind excellent blocking by the Steeler’s OL and their tough D to give their Offense plenty of opportunities to score. Meanwhile Brady will be retired by then and the Bucs will be going with an unproven QB, still hoping to get to another Super Bowl!

  114. Eric Says:

Bucs are doing what they said they were going to. Take a look at who is behind the other doors and choose the best option.

It’s the freakin’ NFL…the future is NOW…all these guys talking about five years some morons saying ten years are out to lunch.

Read Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now”. Five years ago we used the #1 pick with the promise of SB’s and playoffs. What did we get. Five years of losing and humiliating plays. Oh but we did get a guy so freaking smart that one year after he almost torched his career before it started with allegations of rape he’s out hanging at 3AM…blackout drunk (his description) with two guys of horrible rep.
In fact one…like JW was accused of rape and convicted not long after that great AZ adventure. Birds of a feather hang together eh? Oh but no who cares about the optics since everybody knows JW is such a dependable guy…never lies…never says brain dead stuff…he’s a choker on the field…negating his considerable gifts and he makes moronic statements off the field negating all this crap about how smart he is.
