“It’s Tom Brady! We Can’t Turn That Down”

March 13th, 2020

Talking QBs.

On a national TV appearance, Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett had quarterbacks on his mind.

Appearing on “Total Access” last night, seen weeknights on NFL Network, Barrett was interviewed on what looked like a FaceTime or Skype app talking to host Willie McGinest.

Yes, of course Barrett discussed his contract situation and likely franchise tag. No news there and Barrett admitted it.

Barring something out of left field, Barrett said he’s likely playing for the Bucs, tag or no tag. More on that in a moment.

What interested Joe far more in Barrett’s words was his discussing who the starting quarterback would or should be.

While Barrett made it clear he’s ready to roll with Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, there is one quarterback that would make him say “goodbye” to Jameis. And that would be Tom Brady.

McGinest asked Barrett about Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians’ puppy love over the 43-year old future Hall of Famer. Barrett said he would be down with Brady.

“Hey, I love Jameis, man,” Barrett said. “I know Jameis is going to get better. He will make a great jump next year. But if Tom Brady comes, it’s Tom Brady! We can’t turn that down. I would love to have Tom Brady here. I would love to have Jameis here.

“I want to be a part of winning. I want to get to the playoffs and be able to compete for a Super Bowl. Whoever [the front office] thinks the quarterback is to get that done, shoot, that’s who I want.

“I know Tom will get it done for sure. I know Jameis is going to get better.”

Barrett wasn’t done talking quarterbacks. Asked who he would select in the first round of the draft if he were Bucs AC/DC-loving general Jason Licht, arrett said if the Bucs get Brady, the team ought to draft a quarterback in Round 1 whenever the draft is held.

“Me, personally, I would think quarterback if they bring Tom in,” Barrett said. “Tom could help him develop as a quarterback.”

As for his contract with the Bucs, Barrett is hoping for a long-term deal. Nothing new there. But if he gets tagged, “I will play off the tag,” he said. So he’s likely to still wear a Bucs red jersey this fall.

“My success as a starter is down here,” Barrett said. Joe was guessing by looks of the video, Barrett took a moment out from working out at a local football field to do the interview. “If it is not broke, there is no reason for me to want to go try to fix something that is not broke.”

While the mystery of who will be the Bucs starting quarterback continues, it appears who will be the Bucs’ main pass rusher isn’t. Shaq will be back.

He said he’d draft a qb with the number one pick smh, ringing endorsement.

  2. Hethrew 30 Says:

Polite golf clap for Winston from a team mate, with the real desire clearly for Tom Brady, and likely several others not named Winston.

  3. Hodad Says:

Being a defensive player watching Winston throw 7 pick sixes, and 30 interceptions would make you want Tom Brady too.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

Dude wants to win. Fans want to win. I want to win. What QB gives this team the best chance of winning? Brady is a PROVEN winner. Jameis? Well, he holds a lot of records, right?!
    Interesting.

  5. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Nice to hear, after a “prove it deal” one-year contract, that Shaq WANTS to be a Buc again. You do not hear this coming from either JPP or Sue.

I think the one or two year investment in Brady would be a huge mistake. We are NOT one player away from the SB, not by a long shot, and I am not sure he has all that much left – last year was not so good for him. And don’t tell me he had no weapons. What made Brady great was whoever played with him, Brady made them look like a star. Not so much anymore.

  6. #1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says:

Defenders are sick of Jameis, just listen to what they say

This team is ready to move on

  7. Isaac haggins Says:

This Beady thing just isn’t going to work !!! If true these guys are lost, what 43 mil !!! You had better get a larger cap and some more draft picks because that D line has one guy V Vea !! Train Wreck is already taking place at one buc place it’s just that the reporters won’t arrive until oct !!!

  8. Bird Says:

    Senor harry

Why? What is wrong with a possible short turn investment with Brady to take a shot at playoffs/ run in playoffs while he mentors a young QB

    Worked for garapolo under Brady
    Worked for rodgers under favre

I just dont get that reasoning cause what have the bucs done to make a long term investment over the last almost 20 years . You make it sound like the bucs have had a plan over the last 2 decades

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Sarasota garey Says
“He said he’d draft a qb with the number one pick smh, ringing endorsement. “Still

He said if they sign Brady. You know, because of age.

#1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says
    “Defenders are sick of Jameis”

Apparently, you don’t listen to what they say.

  10. Pewter power Says:

Some pathetic arse “bucs fans” out way to early with their crystal balls and sound absolutely stupid before draft before free agency…. stfu with that noise

Dude actually plays in the league and Brady you’re Opinions are noted but irrelevant

  11. Syl Says:

This dude is someone that has never had to speak to the media. I’m waiting for next year when they actually scheme for him and he is around 5 sacks.

  12. Sarasota Garey Says:

Buccanneer bonzai The question was who would you take with your first rd pick, not who would you take if Tom Brady was the qb. He said he would take a qb, and if we got Tom Brady he could groom him. You wouldnt waste a qb number 1, if you thought Jameis was the answer. So he thinks the qb we have now should be upgraded.

  13. Dave Says:

The 2020 season has been cancelled

  14. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Sarasota you must be an idiot. He clearly is clearly saying that if Brady comes in he would draft a QB in round 1. You clearly have Winston Derangement Syndrome if you can’t understand the point he was making. So let me get this straight, you believe that if they resign Winston at the age of 26 he thinks they should use the first round pick on a QB???? We have the dumbest fanbase in Tampa.

  15. Sarasota Garey Says:

touchdown tampabay If you read my previous comment, it says You wouldnt waste a qb number 1 if you thought Winston was the anwswer. He could have chosen any position and he said qb. You can watch the clip on youtube.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

so after 5years, as shaq stated, we’re still waiting on JW to “get better”….lol….

the most telling part in IMO, was him saying: “I know Tom will get it done for sure. I know Jameis is going to get better.”

SHAQ and im sure his team mates are still not sure JW can or will get it done….

i bet the coaches feel the same way….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. mickman Says:

i guess they only read what they want to read in Sarasota….he said if brady is QB he would pick a QB. i would assume that is due to Brady being at the end of his career…he did not said if Jamie’s was on the team he would pit a QB ,as a matter of fact he said he had no doubt Jamie’s would get better.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

not sure if TB would be interested in helping develop a rookie QB….i think he’s only interested in winning without bill…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  19. WestChap Says:

Players and coaches alike are “ok” with Jameis but clearly have eyes for any upgrade possibility. The Jameis Fan Club should take note and pipe down.

  20. Robert Says:

the whole team is tired of jw letting them down and ripping their soul out with turnovers.

  21. Old School Athlete Says:

“Jameis is going to get better”.
The most over-used expression in football.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

I could agree with the Bucs getting Jacob Eason in the first round. Brady gets +$100 million contract to break his leg the first play in Tampa Bay. Eason could learn much from Brady and BA and possibly a strong backup that we don’t have. If you bring Brady into OBP, release the new jerseys when you put him on the podium. If the jerseys are cool, ticket sales and marketing will skyrocket.

  23. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

He’s a pretty likable guy, Shaq.

  24. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Hey Bird, all the points you make are fair. I just don’t think Brady has that much left and I do not think the Bucs are one player away from a real chance at a SB run. I think signing Brady will mean we can’t sign some of our FAs.

And the Bucs have had a plan, one of total failure. First Dominck, then hiring a talented but grossly inexperienced Raheem Morris, then Love and on…

  25. Crabby Fan Says:

    Hmmmm….

    Ringing endorsement for JW again.
I would take a different direction on the qb situation if it’s there.

    Get 2 qbs thru FA.
TB12 signed to take 1st reps.

Draft qb in mid round of draft (jalen hurts prefereably) for 2nd reps

Sign last qb thru FA for 3rd string dirt cheap (JW)

IMO this scenario can give JW and all of his fan base the ability to keep him on board and continue to learn from a proven established QB such as TB12.

Even at TB12s age and past his prime, that would help improve all players around him.

I can hope, it’s free right now and available unlike toilet paper…

    Go Bucs
