Bucs Lineman Gets Corona Scare

March 28th, 2020

Bucs center Ryan Jensen.

It almost hit too close to home for a Bucs offensive lineman, and indirectly the team.

As we are all cooped up trying to avoid the deadly coronavirus (some call it “COVID-19,” others call it the “Chinese virus” because it is believed to have mushroomed from the Wu-Tang Clan province of Red China; Joe simply calls it “the corona”) hoping this thing ends so we can return to normalcy, Bucs center Ryan Jensen got a too-real scare that fortunately was a false alarm.

Jensen took to Twitter to detail the frightening event. A friend’s family all has the corona — and then Jensen saw an ambulance pull up to his house.

@sinjen66: So the Covid scare got pretty real with me yesterday. My best friends parents and grand mother got diagnosed with it. Later that day I had an ambulance pull into my driveway (I live in the mountains, closest neighbor probably 6-700 yards away). I go to see what’s going on, … As I walk up to ask the EMT what’s going on with some fear is his eyes he says stay back you’ve been exposed. Little bit of fear creeps in my mind, like what are you talking about. I then ask him what address he is looking for, ends up he is looking for my neighbors house.

In a later Twitter, Jensen asked his followers to think of the first responders on the front lines in this battle against the corona.

And, Jensen adds, please “stay the (eff) home.”

Yeah cool tell people to stay home. Too bad they won’t listen.

  2. Imon Says:

OK, and the season is supposed to start exactly WHEN? There’s only one deluded moron who thinks this is going to be over soon and he inhabits a monochrome House.

All of the following is strictly IMHO:

SoFi and Allegiant are NOT going to be ready in time
The season will be delayed and held in empty stadiums IF at all
In that case the playoffs will be moved to domed and warm climate stadiums as they will be in February

    Stay safe everyone!

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

I think some morons actually just don’t give a rats @ss if they contribute to spreading this virus. Jensen’s friends family could die as a result and some people could care less. I’m glad Ryan is OK.

I hear there is a sharp spike today in Florida. Please need to stay home.

  6. Capt Kidd Says:

Jean Lafitte, it’s not the deluded moron’s check, it’s yours from your taxes. Trump didn’t even write the bill or discuss it with Congress, he just signed it. Give Congress the credit if anyone deserves it.

  7. Mort Says:

I agree – stay home. Probably tell your sponsor Bill Currie Ford to get on that page.
You know, for the good of the community.
Their ad on this very article encourages people to go to their dealership and drive cars.
Complete social distancing is in place at their giant showroom that has more than enough room to accomplish that. Bill Currie Ford also is scheduling 1-on-1 appointments with customers. The dealership, of course, also services vehicles (including for government) which is often essential. The government allows automotive business to be open and family-owned Bill Currie Ford is taking every precaution possible.–Joe

  8. JimmyJack Says:

I’m one of the lucky ones(if you wanna call it that) that runs a business that’s actually busier right now.

And I can’t work at home so I must be out. Trust me nobodies listening. Barely any impact on traffic and cars on the road. Drive by Home Depot and it’s jam packed.

I do wonder what it’s like in Tampa where their are restrictions but here in Pasco where there are none the effects of the warnings and suggestions are very minimal………The general opinion seems to be put on a dust mask and go about your daily business you’ll be fine……..And it gets under my skin cause I’ll likely wind up spending this thing which I will propbaly catch cause somebody though getting their tires rotated was more important.

  9. DalvinCookRules Says:

We have got to get young, healthy kids to understand they can save others (not themselves) if they just stay home. I think they are more likely to listen.

As far as that “deluded moron” he can take his check and shove it. The majority of the “bailout” is going to major corporations, with a small chunk going to smaller businesses (it should be the OTHER way around).

Had he not marginalized the virus for 2 months in hopes of talking the stock market back up and actually prepped for it like a qualified President would, the impact would’ve been much less severe.

at this rate, COVID will continue till at least mid Fall or Winter. Unfortunately.

  13. Tampabuscsbro Says:

With sports it sucks we can’t watch the rays, we cant watch the lightning choke, we will be incredibly lucky if we are watching the NFL start on time. and even that is a maybe

  14. Mitch Says:

Supposedly federal guidelines will lessen just after April 12. The reasoning is that if they are imposed longer you will see more people die from the economic down turn than the virus itself. Similar when the market crashed in the thirties. Mortality went up by a factor of six per 10,000 and over 180,000 lives were lost with a market crash as the catalyst. We will take it a day at a time though.

  15. Andrew Says:

Jean Lafitte, Its not his money, and he has wasted several weeks downplaying this crisis. Now back to the subject most of us came here for, FOOTBALL.

  16. K2 Says:

It was know as the Wuhan virus…then WHO changed the name because of China’s demands. Same thing that happen with SARS and N1N2…maybe someday we will demand the Chinese government stop the cover-ups. Yes, I know that Asian people aren’t to blame and are not anymore likely to have the virus. This is just about asking all governments to start telling the truth… So, that we are all safer and can watch football with more than 10 people in the stadium!

  17. Sport Says:

Tampa traffic has been light for a few weeks now. Especially the last few days with the Safe At Home implemented in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

The first step to normalcy is testing. A new test was just approved by the FDA, it’s portable and intended for urgent care, doctors office etc. 5mins for a positive test and 13 mins for a negative. They plan to make 50,000 tests a day.

Targeted testing for those with symptoms. Isolation/quarantine for those testing positive and back to work for those who are negative while practicing safe social distancing.

My bet is sports will probably played without fans to get the tv revenue flowing.
Test and protect the teams and production crews, and have testing on the regular.

    That could happen within weeks.

    In BA I Trust!

  18. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Hey, it’s encouraging to see that some of you in Tampa “get it”. Out here on the Left Coast we do, indeed, get it. Sports as we know it are gone for now. That’s G-O-N-E! Until they get a vaccine/treatment for it spectator sports are not going to happen. What happens to the Bucs if they are in camp and Jensen’s neighbor’s kid passes it on to Jensen. Whole team is quarantined, else half the team would get it. Who would play against the Bucs then?
On another thread on this site I posted something like this got removed! Came back later though. Encouraged by this.
There are hardly anybody out here on a small tourist town on Oregon’s coast. We as a whole population have got to slow the spread until the cavalry arrives. And, the cavalry is just getting drafted. I really fear for Florida. The crazy business of business as usual (see South Beach and others) is going to really bite you guys. Stock up and be careful- -very careful.

  19. Buc_You-2 Says:

Hurry if you’re worth millions get tested. The rest of us? Well as the late George Carlin said ” It’s a club and we aren’t in it” And as far as the “deluded moron” comment I have one thing to ask of you. Do you think open borders makes you safe? If you lap up what the alphabet news tells you without doing real research you are the “deluded moron”

  20. Alanbucsfan Says:

The FEAR pandemic is upon us now

  21. Tom S. Says:

I just want to point out the stupidity of the argument that if you don’t like the President or the administration’s response (USA now leads the world in COVID cases because we didn’t take the problem seriously in January) you shouldn’t accept the check:

If you’ve ever worked for a company where you hated the manager or CEO I doubt you’ve ever thought to yourself you shouldn’t cash the check you received because of it. If these idiots want to let me know of a time that they personally turned down income because of a lack of appreciation for the competency of those that are at the top of the organizational food chain, please let me know.

  22. Jon Says:

This will not last that long that simply is not how viruses work. Its plenty of time to die off and as soon as heat comes it will lessen. The big risk of spread is the respiratory part and I guarantee that will be solved in less than a month and once ppl are not dying this will become much less of a problem

  23. Cb13 Says:

Thank God Hillary Clinton is not our president!!! People would still be flying in from other countries.

  24. Cb13 Says:

  25. Cb13 Says:

God Bless all first responders, Doctors and nurses and all families affected by this.

  26. Hethrew 30 Says:

No one wants this stuff, and there could be outliers. But an NFL player, or pro athlete is quite likely among the least likely to get COVID-19 given whom we know is most vulnerable.

As for the Ford dealer. I don’t buy Joes line from who is clearly a paid advertiser. Some questions. Are the meeting rooms sanitized after every meeting? How? They claim it’s done every day. Great..so 10 people that mosey through that don’t know they have it spread it to 35-45 people by days end. Are the employees wearing masks to keep them from spreading the stuff? Is the government buying cars in dealerships right now? Doubt it. Yes, everyone’s car needs maintenance, so it would be prudent to have limited hours and not the dealership open based on ads saying clean they are. Who knows, maybe this Dealer IS doing all of this. I won’t know, being I’m doing as most prudent say, including the President…stay at home. Non-essential stuff only. This DOES NOT pass the smell test.

No, can’t shut down the whole economy for months and make the remedy one that kills the country’s infrastructure that doesn’t work anyway because people don’t heed to warning long enough to start the current cases out. But this looks to me like an example of pure BS! Sure Joe, stick up for your paying dudes.

  28. Bucnjim Says:

All I can say is WOW because either everyone is following the paranoid delusions of the media or the hysteria created by these same paranoid individuals. No one wants to see anyone sick or dying! BUT Florida just passed 40 deceased. Florida is a State of how many people? 20 Million! NY is a city of how many? 9 Million! This is just a guess but I’ll bet more people have died from sex games gone wrong.

  29. mark2001 Says:

Why shouldn’t Jean accept the check..and give it to his son. The money is being stolen from his kids future, so why should he leave it?

  30. mark2001 Says:

Hethrew? You kidding? Everyone exposed is likely to get it. At his age, he will probably survive it. But you think he is dumb enough to brush it off?

  31. Bucnjim Says:

Some facts and a couple of opinions:

89% have existing respiratory issues such as smoking: FACT
The average age of all deceased is 69.5 FACT
Most Kids DO NOT GET this strain of Corvid19 FACT
Autoimmune are not affected as much as pre existing respiratory patients
The number of infected is 10X more and we weren’t even aware in the timeframe between Christmas and mid January (my opinion).

  32. Bucnjim Says:

Also not to offend anyone but how do grown men become so scared of something (that has flu symptoms) and also has less lives lost in the same time period as the flu? Maybe it’s things we still don’t know or maybe it’s buying the hype. Maybe it’s not being able to get chicken or toilet paper. Whatever it is wash your hands and for GOD SAKE move on with your life instead of fear mongering..

  33. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Big year for Big Red…glad he’s ok. Making top dollar snapping to an all time great…making line calls to help keep him upright. Time to earn that 8 figure salary.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

    Bucnjim…I’m with you dude!

  35. mark2001 Says:

Bucnjim… some of what you say is true…but kids aren’t immune to it…it seems their immune systems ward it off better. And to compare this to the flu is somewhat ludicrous. We have vaccines and tamiflu to help us in the fight. Now if you want to compare it to the flu of 1918, and the deaths and economic effects of it, you might have a point. But I don’t think that is where you were going. And seems you haven’t been paying attention to the transmission to the virus…aerosol transmission and the length of time the virus can survive on hard surfaces. You can believe what you want…but you might want to check the science.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    From The Hill 2020:

The Flu has killed 20,000 Americans so far this season, including 136 children.

  37. SufferingSince76 Says:

One thing we have in our favor in Florida is the heat. From what I read the heat causes the virus to plump up which shortens it’s lifespan on surfaces. So let’s hope it gets hotter than hell. That in itself will keep folks indoors.

  38. Hethrew 30 Says:

mark2001 Says: Thank you. I meant to he is least vulnerable to it. Right, those exposed are likely to get it. His comments were on the mark. But they don’t send ambulances to peoples’ houses who may be been exposed. Never said he should brush it off.

  39. Bucnjim Says:

    Mark,
The main reason I compare this to the Flu is there IS NO CURE for the flu! The flu is bed rest and let it take its course. The similarity is healthy people who test positive for Corvid 19 are sent home to what? Isolate, bed rest, let it take its course. Only the ar risk patients such as smokers as well as patients who have previously had phenomena are admitted to the hospital.

  40. Hethrew 30 Says:

Bucnjim…don’t confuse fear with prudent precaution. Don’t confuse public messaging with hype.

  41. Bucnjim Says:

I have to go but my main point is not to forget those in need but to use our MASSIVE amount of resources to help those in need and we all know who these people are. To ruin the financial lives of millions of people instead of protecting those who really need our help has agenda written all over it. Hopefully things lighten up in April a little and all the way in May. Not for me but for every hospitality employee in Florida. Cheers to you guys and hang tough!

  42. mark2001 Says:

Jim… tamiflu can lessen the impact of the flu…and the vaccine can help build up immunity that can make the actual impact on the individual much less.

Right now, neither thing exists on this virus. So all that can be done is try to assist us in dealing with the symptoms and give us time to beat it, if our bodies are capable of doing so. In that aspect, it is much more similar to the flu of 1918, which was very significant to our national health and economy.

I tend to wonder that in two to three years from now, we will probably have a vaccine for this and its’ tamiflu equivalent. And then it will be much like modern flu. But we have a long way to go before we get on that road.

  43. DBS Says:

At lot of false BS being put out by people that don’t know what they are talking about. Listen to Doctors and professionals not local bloggers.

  44. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

There is no agenda in America by the media. This is happening to more than a third of the global population. The American “fake news” media is not that powerful.

  45. mark2001 Says:

Jim…I have mixed feelings about our financial strategy. Some of the industries we are subsidizing have been dying for years, becoming obsolete. And others by nature are high risk of survival service industries. And those better let go the way of the dodo bird.

Industries that are necessary for our competitiveness in the 21st century, and necessary to our national defense in jeopardy…no problem. We must assist those.

Regarding unemployed Americans…yes…we need to help them through these times…and need to help them become trained or educated for 21st century jobs.

I just wish we could do this economic surgery with a scalpel… and not with a sledge hammer. For as things usually are, the one thing I do know is that the middle class will basically pay for it.

  48. stpetebucsfan Says:

Some of you pandemic “experts” failed the “flattening the curve” class.

This is NOT SIMPLY ABOUT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE who get the virus or even the number who die from it!!!!

First sign of major ignorance…anybody who compares this to the normal influenzas we face every year. Those deaths are not even germane to this discussion. I could say we have Flu shots and flu treatments that we are still waiting for in this epidemic. I could go on about how this virus is FAR more contagious…FAR more the lethal but because of personal experience I can tell you the REAL PROBLEM!!!

If we do not “flatten the curve”…simply put…stretch out the number of cases that occur in the same time period we could be headed for some REAL hell.

I’m living proof. I do not feel sorry for myself so Munchkin save your sour comments…I’m not afraid to die. But I’m now sitting at home…feeling pretty stuck. Even though I’m ill…have a heart condition..one very mild heart attack…a cancer survivor..yadda yadda yadda…when you get past 70 you start getting those life badges.

Bottom line…I cannot seek medical help right now short of absolute emergency.
What is absolute emergency? IF my BP shoots to 180/100? 190/110 Do I need to pass out or have some other event to justify me invading our medical system. Because I sought treatment for the head cold with very mild feverish symptoms a couple afternoons I was required to get swabbed. I support this decision…I do not want to be part of the problem. In the meantime I cannot have my regularly scheduled blood draw this Monday..nor can I leave the house until the test results are returned in TWO WEEKS!!!

If we do not flatten the curve it’s no longer about the Virus deaths…it’s becomes about the deaths of motorcycle accident victims whose treatment was not timely enough to save their lives…appendicitis tough darts the beds are already full of virus patients….I could go on but hopefully you get the point.

In the age of Trump we are ALL EXPERTS!!! If a dumb rock like him gets to claim intellectual superiority I’m a freaking Einstein. We all now view facts that are disagreeable as “fake”. There are now “alternative facts”. We are a nation that now resembles an ostrich with his head stuck in the sand….the kid who hides his eyes and plugs his ears to avoid the truth…or a person with their head stuck up their nether regions.

As a nation we have surrendered our critical thinking skills!

He should have said I can let a million Americans die from my incompetence and wouldn’t lose any voters.”

At least Jered and his brother at Oscar medical are going to make billions off the C-19 test kits. Makes more since why they didn’t want the WHO test back in January.

This administration dissolved the National Security Council’s global health security office, which was responsible for planning for disease outbreaks. Still wants to cuts to CDC budget, cuts to snap and in court trying to take away the ACA’s meager healthcare benefits for Americans.

I hate to say this, but there is only one way to break this thing. Enforced quarantine in all cities. That is the only way to make sure the exposures are reduced.

Stores are going to have to limit the number of customers permitted entry at a time, with lines outside of people spaced 6 feet apart.

The biggest issue is people not taking this seriously. Too many people think it’s no worse than the flu. Here in Florida in the past day or so, healthy police officers have gotten it and died. Caregivers are dying too.

If you want to make your own masks…CLICK my name above. The link leads to a video on how. Since we can’t get the right masks (or any at this point) in stores, making them is our only option.

You post Stan is showing HIS ignorance? Seriously? Based on what?
If you cannot DISPROVE one of his statements then I guess we can guess who is ignorant.

The ONLY two “opinions” were his bit of snark…shoulda said millions die of Corona…but CLEARLY Americans are dead, dying and more will die because DT DELIBERATELY lied about the numbers when he KNEW better.

And in absolute Journalistic accuracy I haven’t seen reports about Jared and the boys making money of the tests but given the past behavior of the family I can’t honestly say Stan is wrong simply because I haven’t heard it. I mean really would any of us be surprised.

Meanwhile all Stan did with the rest was simply restate FACTS!!!!

Bottom line: it doesn’t matter where it came from. It’s here, and we need to survive it and shorten its life.

  69. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Max

IF…a viral warfare lab is established…I am not naive…we could have them here…perhaps the Russians…and yes the Chinese…THE POINT is in a controlled scientific environment this stuff ONLY happens in movies!!! People work in incredibly secure labs wearing PPE!!! The sin the Chinese committed was failing to tell the world or even their own people when this first happened and waited a period of months….because wait for it….they were worried about the PR and what it might mean for the products worldwide.

Have we seen this same behavior at home? The Chinese are us!!!

The entire world agrees that this disease was “most likely” transmitted to humans from bats which were used in one of Wuhan’s cottage industries.

I could provide dozens of links to reputable U.S….European…Asian and other news sources but why burst you bubble if these fairy tales excite you.

Just realize if folks do not follow the scientific advice it could get ugly,

I’m an optimist. Since it is worldwide and ALL OF THE WORLD not just we superior smug American are looking for a virus and treatment I’m hopeful it wont take a year. If the hot weather slows the spread we get some breathing room. I truly hope the worst case scenarios prove incorrect.

  70. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Buc You

What is the point? First teach us all with a “credible” reference what an “Institute of Virology”. Do you not believe that every civilized or advanced nation on earth is constantly studying viruses to protect our health?

Do you realize we had “Institutes of Virology” preparing for the next Pandemic?
Are you aware that our intelligence agencies have long identified a Pandemic as a major security threat? Not because they are great fortune tellers…but because of the Ebola and H1N1 virus known as the “Swine Flu” because it was believed to have originated in pigs in Mexico?

And since we KNEW this was a major threat after going through those two why on earth did we disband the agency set aside specifically to prepare for them?

Does ANYBODY here have an answer as to what thinking went into that decision? I”m hopeful it was just to save money to build that wall. I would disagree with that priority but at least it’s a reason far better than because oh Obama created that department in Homeland Security and if “Obummer” did it…it had to be bad!!!

Well Bonzai, it does matter….and we need to hold those in charge of it accountable. Do we declare war on china? i dont know. Its some crazy going on behind the scenes….yall dont see that yet.

I just know what i observe and feel….hello Bill Gates, Why?

  72. MadMax Says:

@stpete, you hate Trump so theres not much i can say…i mean, i feel sorry for people like you who hate him…still cant figure out the reason why, but it is what it is.

just like your disdain for Trump and your casting aside the seriousness of this virus and where it came from, i dont know man…agree to disagree i guess. i dont want to be on your bad side….i respect you

  73. scot pederson Says:

WHy be so scared? Oh I guess because the Media is not telling us that 95% of the cases are Mild,
    98.8% of Americans survive
the Vast majority are those with respiratory conditions and the elderly

No, they wont tell us because they THRIVE off fearmongering and sensationalism to get their Ratings up even if this has put us in a Recession and if it keeps up a Depression.

    Stop the Hysteria!

  74. firethecannons Says:

Can’t think Jensen would make it very easy with corona virus, he has sleep apnea and is likely to have respiratory issues. The virus can scar your lungs also so future nfl would be out of the question. Can’t stress it enough, stay home and wash hand after getting in car from food store or gas station–use hand sanitizer large amount and be glad we have a president that is following experts advice and giving daily updates. The democrats nominee unable to to even give a coherent response. Can’t wait for the draft! We need a new tackle.

  75. Buc_You-2 Says:

And why do we have the most cases because we’re being the most honest with reporting cases unlike China who lied about the overall numbers. Also they open up their borders right when our economy starts tanking over social distancing. Oh and what a coincidence that Chinese businessmen own all of Hollywood now, and we see all of the actors saying they have the virus and to stay home hurting the economy. And the majority of them hate Trump. But no don’t look at that don’t follow the money that’s conspiracy theory. All in an election year no agenda right all for safety right? I seem to remember a certain Chicago mayor telling a national audience “we can’t let a good crisis go to waste” Rahm Emanuel.

  77. Hethrew 30 Says:

Scot, don’t confuse being scared with concern and caution. The figures aren’t really hard yet, because we don’t know who is out there walking around with this stuff that doesn’t get tested. Not a fan of the media, but the government, particularly, health folks ARE telling us who the common victims are. Yes, the percentage is low, but if you are one that lands in the hospital, the odds are much much higher you don’t leave. For all those saying the flu kills more people…I don’t remember hospitals in major cities every being packed to the gills with dying patients like NYC. Yes, we will get through it.

I am however, glad, that in the USA, the plan is to balance shutting public activities down to slow the spread with permanent damage to our infrastructure by shutting things down.

  78. Hethrew 30 Says:

Stangalssman says: “This administration dissolved the National Security Council’s global health security office, which was responsible for planning for disease outbreaks. Still wants to cuts to CDC budget, cuts to snap and in court trying to take away the ACA’s meager healthcare benefits for Americans.”

Pack of lies. This is what is wrong. So many media hacks going politics on this and stupid morons like Stan re-spew it. First, the office was merged; the same function exists on a broader scale to allow for economies. There were increases to the CDC’s budget year over year. The rate of increase was LESS than others, like Defense, but make no defense. The ACA, for it or against it, has nothing on this as testing is free and emergency care is still just that. You may want to look up pandemic when you start wanting to blame about why there are shortages of things needed to fight the disease. This isn’t political at all, so be an American for once. Get your facts straight, moron.

  79. Stanglassman Says:

St. Pete- You noticed that too? Not much of a defense. Their playbook is always attack, attack and never admit when you’re wrong. This is what happens when your goal is to deconstruct the administrative State. Their guy is blowing it and going to get a million Americans killed. At least he wasn’t in charge when Ebola was spreading he would have gotten us all killed.

  80. Stanglassman Says:

Hethrew- I fact checked everything I wrote. There is a reason I wrote that they wanted to cut the CDC budget instead if they they cut it. Yes it goes up annually do to inflation. You can call it a reorganization or whatever you want.
Here is a good article summarizing the facts. That’s if you don’t believe AP news are they part of the deep state Q-anon
Conspiracy? If you believe that stuff I can’t help you.

  81. mark2001 Says:

Here is the bottom line. Until everyone that shows any symptoms can be tested, and we have an actual number of cases, we can’t do the proper job of isolation of the disease. And we will simply be trying to service an increasingly overloaded HC system, and fail to get a handle on this virus. In the mean time we need respirators, ventilators, masks, gloves, etc. to protect or medical professionals first, and our citizens. And beyond that, we wait upon a medical breakthrough..hope..and be a smart and responsible citizen.

I didn’t know there were so many liberal snowflakes in here. So I guess according to all you dumb@rses HRC would have done better? She was doing nothing but lining her own pockets the whole time she was SOS.

    St Pete said:

The ONLY two “opinions” were his bit of snark…shoulda said millions die of Corona…but CLEARLY Americans are dead, dying and more will die because DT DELIBERATELY lied about the numbers when he KNEW better.

Just curious. You seem to state this as fact. What are your sources? Would truly like to now.

  84. Sierra048 Says:

Was specifically asking about the last sentence in my above post.

  85. mark2001 Says:

One thing about the biological created virus idea. Frankly, pretty silly to think this virus was an escaped “weapon” in testing the Chinese would have released knowingly or in error. If they had weaponized one, it would be much better at incapacitating a potential adversary, with a much higher mortality rate. The plague killed 60% of the population of Europe.

  86. Bucnjim5656 Says:

Will this be the strategy we take every time? If so socialism is right on the horizon. The main reason I am so skeptical is I had the H1N1 in 2009. Nothing was shut down or cancelled. If spread much faster than Covid 19. We seem to average a new virus every 4 or five years so the economy could never sustain hits like this without complete collapse.

  87. scot pederson Says:

Hethrew 30- You make the same Talking Points the media uses to perpetuate their Fearmongering. The fact is still that 95% of ALL cases are Mild. And the fact is that the majority of the cases are in a handful of Hot spots, not nationwide.

The fact is also 98.8% survive, so that % will NOT change.

As far as Hospitals not being crammed 2 things:
A-We do have a bit more concentration with the spread of this so that accounts for part of it
B-The regular flu lasts for a good 6 months so the Hospital filling is spread out over those 6 months. I expect this to slow down as the Hotter months are almost here.

WHY IS EVERYTHING SHUTTING DOWN? CURFEWS, NATIONAL GUARD AND MILITARY BEING ACTIVATED?

This is no jokes peeps, im sorry, im just the messenger. Be strong, live long.

  90. mark2001 Says:

Even Donald is taking this seriously. He is promoting unproven treatments and suggesting April Easter shoulder to shoulder worship..calling himself the optimist, and then recently talking about state quarantines, national guard activation and such. We are spending trillions of dollars in debt and the feds are pulling out all the stops to protect the economy. Yet, some of you are still saying “nothing but a cold”. You think if there was any way to paint this piece of waste gold, he wouldn’t ? Good luck with that.

And Max…no one in their right mind thinks this is a joke.

  91. Dr J Says:

    Scot Pederson, you are incorrect.

This virus has the potential to survive in warm climates. We do not project this virus to diminish due to the weather. This is suggestive of the high positive count in warmer climates.

We should fear this virus. It is true that many have mild symptoms, but a small / large percentage (would be hundreds-thousands at our rate and percentage of general population) have sever symptoms. There is an extremely high mortality rate once intubates. The young with no past medical history are just as vulnerable. We sent a 28 yo w no past medical history, non smoker to the ICU.

Fauci is correct. With our current trajectory, 100-300,000 Americans will die. This is in a span of months. That’s a lot. Our trajectory is based on our action from several weeks ago. If we continue with aggressive social distancing, staying “afraid” we can change this estimate to thousands of deaths.

This I serious and I don’t expect this to die down till at least winter and fall at its earliest this year. (If we continue with social distancing)

It is bad when physicians are afraid of this virus.

I am scared. And At times I am glad I bought life insurance.
