Fixing The Fourth Quarter

March 26th, 2020

Stats never tell a full story. But facts are facts, and this FOX Sports Boston graphic (part of a story on why the Patriots shouldn’t consider Jameis Winston) sure is eye-opening in a league where most games are decided by one score.

  1. Doctor Stroud Says:

I wonder what JW’s agent thinks about a media outlet in a major market torpedoing him like this. #PaidFloridaVacation

  2. Lamarcus Says:

    Fixing the fourth quarter lmao

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Doctor Stroud

At this point it doesn’t matter. There are no real jobs available to start left, not really. Jameis would be better suited to find a team with a fragile started and sign on as a backup. Truthfully, the Panthers would be perfect, because Bridgewater won’t last long.

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to the actual topic…we won’t need top fix the forth quarter, because Brady will have the first 3 quarters under control.

  5. james west Says:

    u right bonzai

  6. Gettinthebucs Says:

Yep can’t win like that. Hopefully he can get that cleaned up if not he doesn’t have a chance in the league

  7. jugheadfla Says:

13 turnovers, makes me want to vomit….

  8. D-Rome Says:

Those numbers are horrible but I have to believe some of those turnovers were hail mary’s at the end of the game. That said, Bonzai is correct that with Brady the first 3 quarters will be under control.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai … I was thinking exactly the same thing, except that the Saints would be a better fit. No one better than Drew Brees to learn from, and Sean Payton is probably one of the few coaches who I think could ‘fix Jameis’. Plus the Saints will need a QB to replace Brees either next year or the year after. They couldn’t pay Jameis much (the Saints are in salary Cap he11), but then again, no one else seems willing to pay Jameis much either.

  10. Defense Rules Says:

D-Rome … There were a couple of Hail Mary’s in there, but that’s about it. I’m still wondering though how much of that had to do with play-calling and failure to appropriately use our TEs & RBs out of the backfield.

  11. SteveK Says:

    This is telling.

And shows how we lost some games this past year.

    I wish Jameis well.

  12. Clutch Buc Says:

I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things…. I knew it was bad… but I didn’t know it was this bad.. 1 to 13 is quite a different stat. lol

  13. Guadalajara Mexico Fan Says:

    Two important things here:
1.- Turnovers: Bucs already fixed that with Brady arrival.
2.- Brady’s succeed with this stats is because he has a good backfield. Bucs have to fix the RB’s problem in order to be successful.

  14. Dewey Selmon Says:

Without the int’s during the first 3 quarters we should have a lead that we can run the clock out instead of being in a 4 quarter battle because of ints

  15. Easy Says:

CARDIAC JOE..but but but LEAD THE LEAGUE IN PASSING YARDS!!!!!!

  16. MarineBucsFan Says:

How much cap space is available to sign another FA? Wondering if we can afford one of these FA safeties like Reid or Randall.

  17. Dapostman Says:

Just getting to the playoffs and getting bounced out in the first round won’t be good enough. If you have the greatest of all time at the most important position nothing short of the NFC Championship game will be a success. You have to win at least 2 playoff games.

  18. Sarasota Garey Says:

I dont want to see statistics and data, Winston was the passing leader last year gosh darn it!!!

  19. SteveK Says:

If we subtracted return yards on interceptions, then Jameis threw for much less then 5k yards.

I wish “net” stats were reported to show the entire picture. The apologists cling to the positive, refusing to acknowledge the negative- even though it’s true and the rest of the league agrees.

  20. Architek Says:

No – every sound and reasonable Bucs fan knew of this except one of the Joes and the Winston stans!

  21. Sarasota Garey Says:

Stevek says: what if we subtracted all his pick sixes from his tds also

  22. Robert Says:

BRADY is a winner, that other guy, not so much.

    TOM BRADY, AMERICAS QUARTERBACK!

  23. Tye Says:

The Bucs now have a Qb that has been in 9 Super Bowls!
After having a guy who might not even be good enough to be a camp arm for anyone..
That should be the leading story over the next coming months!

  24. killfish86 Says:

Bucs need to release the new jersey design so I can buy a Brady jersey.

  25. John Herb Says:

1st QB to win Superbowls for both AFC and NFC teams… Tom Brady! Go Buc’s

    Double Standard ?

  27. Beeej Says:

I remember all the hype about Cleveland before the season began…. Hopefully we won’t duplicate that

  28. DoooshLaRue Says:

Almost double the yards compared to Brady.

    Check ya sheets………

    He be ballin’!

  29. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

John Herb now that’s what true Buc fans are hoping for!!!

SteveK how’s that any different from you people who ONLY talk about the negative??? They don’t need to because that’s ALL you people talk about. You people only care about 1 stat, turnovers . The other stat winning/ losing no matter how much he had a hand in them is a team stat or how much you pretend it’s not. Last time I checked defense and special teams had hands in losing some of the games this season. The young man played his heart out for us. He loved his team and teammates but you all act like he stole something from you or touched your sister. You people act like he purposely turned the ball over and tried to lose all those games. Plus a number of you wish the worst for him and are glad he isn’t working. You guys have absolutely no perspective. Some choose to be positive because there’s more than enough negativity to go around. Some if you call him a loser but he’s won more in this life than all you all out together.!

  30. DerrickBrooksGOATLB Says:

And this is reason 1A why Jameis is a low end starter/high end backup QB in the league. I would also venture to guess that Jameis’ lead in 4Q yards came from other turnovers earlier so the Bucs were playing catch-up.

As fun as it might be sometimes to watch a team chuck the rock 50+ times per game, it’s not a sustainable recipe for success and you top out in the 7-9 to 9-7 range.

Even during the Rams ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ reign they only threw 34 times per game as a high and in their Super Bowl year threw 31 per game. Jameis averaged just under 40 attempts per game last year and we finished 7-9. Even in Brady’s video game stat years with the Patriots, they didn’t throw that often.

  31. SOEbuc Says:

    Robert

Tom Brady title “America’s quarterback” on the Bucs roster is a slap of blood across Brady’s face.

With his new TB12 and other business venture’s he’s involved with, it is…”Prestige Worldwide Quarterback.” Lol Jameis is probably the janitor that mops up Will Farrell’s and John C. Reily huge bank vaults.

New England backfield was better than the Buc’s last year. Just not that much better than the Buc’s. They were in the bottom half backfield. Sony Michel proved that he was not that special of a runner and really was not a good ball catching back either. Rojo is greater than Sony Michel – probably – just did not watch enough to be sure of Michel. Problem for the Buc’s last year is that Dare was worse than any other back in the NFL as a 3rd down back. James White was way better than Dare.

  33. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

It’s not eye opening to anyone who knows football!! You kept screaming sign him, sign him and nobody else in the league agrees with you!! Maybe you need to start paying a little more attention… Stop picking favorites for emotional reasons… The people with brains on here kept saying “hey he’s throwing those picks when it matters The most” but na you just kept looking at how many yards he threw for!! Man this is just a bad look for you man! To say that’s eye opening shows that you just don’t know football as much as you think you do!! When people tell you I’d rather have a QB that throws 24tds and 6 picks you say “but the yards” yards don’t matter if you throw the pick 6 in the last 2 minutes…. I’m reeeeally glad you have no power for the bucs! Plus screaming for every over paid free agent just makes you look stupid man!! I’m glad the bucs got some competent people to run things there now instead of hiring people who think like you… But alas, you and pewter report are the only ways I can get bucs news… So here I am… I’m not trying to be an butthole just saying you have something here that probably a lot of bucs staff and players get on here and read… You need to be better!! You need to set a better standard for yourself and stop picking with emotion

  36. Rob Says:

America’s quarterback? More like Tampa Bay’s nightmare turnover machine. Funny how teams are just salivating (NOT) to sign the guy. Thanks for five losing years and plenty of yards thrown. Go turn the ball over for some other sucker franchise. You did enough damage in Tampa. Never wanted you and glad Tampa finally admitted their mistake. 30 million per year is your ask? Right. Go Bucs!

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So…..there you have it……JW leads in yardage and in TDs…….but, which QBs stats would you rather have?

  38. Sarasota Garey Says:

I was rewatching game highlights on YouTube (self distancing) and watched the Houston game, Winston threw 2 pick sixes his first 2 drives one was called back for a penalty. Idk why, but I was shocked, even though I watched the game live, the same thing when I was rewatching the Colts game. I was at that game.

  39. Tom in Madcity Says:

So two-thirds of JW’s turnovers either came on the first drive or the fourth quarter/overtime. You can’t win games like that, which is why a change was necessary.

  40. 2020 Year of the GOAT Says:

    ———

We won 9 games one time in five years with Jameis. Bottom line Dave, we don’t win and when we dissect the losing- turnovers come out screaming- more so than kicker and D.

  45. Bucsfanman Says:

    Jarring, absolutely jarring numbers.

  46. Tony1775 Says:

Looks like only FSU fan think he is worth anything. NFL has spoken.

  47. Sauron's eye Says:

Really looking forward to winning close games in the 4th quarter, instead of letting the opponent take it away from us. We have a much better chance now, down one score with 2 minutes left with TB.

  48. Stevebobucsfan Says:

Jameis had to have had more issues than interceptions. Arians has come out and said Jameis was third on his list. Now so many news outlets criticizing him. Also unless his agent is asking to much to sign him, nobody has even offered a backup roll

  49. AtlBUCS Says:

We won the superbowl with Brad Johnson and a great defense. This year we will have the woat (winningest of all time) and a great defense. Let’s do it again!

  50. BrianBucs Says:

And people wonder why no other team has any interest in Winston……..

When absolutely no other team in the league wants your starter to be their starter, what’s that tell you?

  51. AtlBUCS Says:

I wouls actually love to see Jameis play behind brady for a couple of years. But I have a feeling they’re gointo dreither Eason or Love. But Love gives the ball away just like Jameis does.

  52. stpetebucsfan Says:

Time to add a little perspective to those stats.

Last year was considered “Blameless” best by far. Just read his supporters.

It was a down to mediocre year for Brady because of how high he has set the bar.

People have mentioned the timing of JW’s mistakes. When a guy has made as many horrid mistakes at crunch time and to start a game…could it just be he’s a choker?

  53. Craig Says:

It sure makes me happy that the Bucs management choose the one on the left.

It will glorious to see Brady with four or five viable outlets on every play.

  54. WestChap Says:

The only surprise is that there are any apologists for our prior QB left on this site… are you guys related or something? Even Alabama Bruce has moved on to a new love. The last 5 years at QB were bad… at times truly horrible but always bad when measured over any stretch of time more than a half. Prior QB could be good for a play or a drive and sometimes even a half but rarely a whole game. Just bizarre in hindsight given the lack of cause (no drugs, no injury) other than just lack of development. Hope it goes better for him the next time…

  55. Natron Says:

At this point, it’s pretty clear that Winston won’t be a starter in the NFL next season. However, if he doesn’t find a backup QB job soon, he needs to Sheet Can his agent ASAP. He’s too good to be out of the league altogether

  56. Natron Says:

    TB x TB !!! !!! !!!!

  57. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Can we now retire the ‘Jamis Watch’ tag and start a new tag – ‘Brady Watch’ or is your man crush on JW to strong for Mr Brady?
