Brett Favre Talks Brady To Tampa

March 17th, 2020

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was talking Tom Brady to the Bucs today on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

The ol’ gunslinger (Favre) almost landed in Tampa but the trade fell through at the 11th hour.

Brady is a free agent and no team will stand in his way.

“… When I heard the news [of Brady leaving New England] I didn’t get chill-bumps, but I almost did. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck standing up because this is a shocker to a lot of people. The things that he has done in New England and what he has meant to that – not just the team, but the fan base – goes without saying. I mean, the best that’s ever played. And the good thing is that he has the ability to make any decision he chooses whether he wants to play or doesn’t want to play, whether it be in New England or somewhere else. He deserves that. Just a class act. Just a tremendous football player and leader. You know for Tom, I can only speculate but I talked to him a little bit at the Super Bowl this year and he seems eager to play. Now we didn’t talk about would he come back, play in New England, any of that, and I was listening to some of your comments here the last few minutes and, you know, finding the right fit is always a toss-up. You can only go by what your gut tells you and what you see, but I think he’s a tremendous asset for whoever picks him up.”

Favre continued: “I think Tampa is a perfect example. You’d be crazy not to go after Tom Brady with the team you have. Yeah, it’s a very tough division but I don’t think for one second that Tom is sitting there thinking, ‘I want the easiest route possible.’ You want to win. You want to prove you can lead a team to a championship other than the one you’ve done so much for so many years. Yeah, Tampa is a very good option now that you speak of it.”

Yes, the Bucs are a great move for Brady. Whether it becomes a great move for the Bucs is another story.

    What a Joke Joe!!!!!

Weren’t you the one who said Brett Farve was coming here many moons ago???

Yeah…..tell me how that one ended up???

  2. Go Bucs 72 Says:

    Hell yes!

  3. Go Bucs 72 Says:

I hope Brady comes here so TheBucsAhole above can STFU!

  4. geno711 Says:

Wait Brett Favre said that Jameis Winston is good for the Buc’s and now says that Tom Brady is good for the Buc’s.

    How can that be?

Shouldn’t he have to choose sides like most of the rest on this site?

This is just a crazy world.

I remember NDOG using Brett Favre’s words to support that Jameis should stay with the Buc’s. I am 100 percent certain that he is ignoring these words!

  5. TexBuc Says:

Runaway wants to chime in and steal some of Tom’s spotlight

  6. Billy_45 Says:

I’ll own a Brady Bucs jersey.

  7. Curse of Gruden Says:

Favre is not the best source to use when confirming new Tampa Bay players. He is a reason to doubt any source. Believe TB in TB when the deal is signed.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

it’ll be good for all parties involved….

-with brady we are a contender….
    -players will elevate their game….
-we have true leadership on offense not finger licking JW….
-both sides of the ball will compliment each other….

and JW finally gets to see his worth…..lol…which is slightly higher than smitty right now…..lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Anthem

What is your point? I do not believe this post was about Joe’s credibility but rather Favres no?

  10. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

    Has anyone signed JW? ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  11. bogiedr Says:

Offer Bill O’Bian a cuban sandwich, double meat for DeSaun Watson! B.O. is drunk, he’d do it.

  12. boldnewera Says:

The amount of overall media that is going to descend upon Dale Mabry is going to be staggering, nevermind just Bucs history, but the GOAT changing teams, etc to spite old team, etc. International media too. Training camp. On and on and on. Staggering.

  13. TexBuc Says:

Latest is AB might signed also

  14. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Damn JW has to be at home saying “DAMN I MUST NOT HAVE BEEN BALLING AFTER ALL”

  15. TexBuc Says:

St— clubs might be busy tonight despite the Corona.

  16. Tye Says:

    Joe,
If the Bucs sign Brady, they will want to quickly sell his jersey…

Would that possibly prompt the Bucs to release the new unis early?…

  17. TexBuc Says:

Wish Winston well in the future but I must support my team

  18. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Problem #1 This website notoriously pump info like Farve was coming here…..the same as what they’re doing with Brady

Problem #2 No national media source is even picking up on this…but yet a local sports media head here is saying it.

……………………so excuse me if I’m highly critical

  19. Rod Munch Says:

    Fun fact:

Since 2015, Jameis Winston has played the toughest schedule in football…
Since 2015, Tom Brady has played the easiest schedule in football…

  20. Tye Says:

And yet who is pursuing JW…

  21. Rod Munch Says:

TheBucsAnthem – I’m highly sceptical as well, not so much of Joe, but just the people celebrating. I have no issue with speculating, but people are acting like it’s a done deal.

With Brett Favre it was a done deal
With Bill Parcells it was a done deal (1990)
With Bill Parcells it was a done deal (2002)
With Chip Kelly it was a done deal

Nothing is a done deal until they’re at the podium, assuming there is going to be a podium.

Also it’s amazing the idiots who are celebrating now, and think if you don’t join them you’re against them. Truly these people are some of the biggest idiots on earth. If it happens, wonderful – I’ll celebrate tomorrow.

  22. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Losing out on Favre in ‘08 still stings. He had plenty left in the tank…and as a Mississippi boy…he would have acclimated to the weather well.

  23. Bucsdelight Says:

Nothing is a done deal. All sources are currently reporting what Cowherd said about Brady to Bucs. Brady still talking to Chargers as well. We’ll find out tomorrow I guess.

  24. Ndog Says:

Why does every article have to turn into a bash Jameis session? One thing I will say is boy if this doesnt go well you are going to have a hard time finding someone to blame since you literally blame everything on Jameis.

  25. SteveK Says:

    Munch,

Fans are starving for a reason to celebrate. Me thinks you really have misplaced anger towards Jameis’ play not meriting an extension

I do agree with you that we should
    Not get our hopes up.

I hope an announcement comes out either way. Bc tbh landing the 🐐 would
    Be glorious.

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Tom Brady? You are kidding. Seriously. If that happens, I will follow the team just to hear the arrogant stupid idiot get carted off the field in a cart with a broken neck!

  27. Rod Munch Says:

Completely unrelated: Here’s the plot of the first episode of Good Times…

James is excited because he is sure that he is going to get a high paying job. However, at the interview, he learns that he is too old to join the company’s union. Meanwhile, Florida and the children get ahead of themselves and throw a celebration party for James unaware that he was rejected.

    Fun fact:
Since 2015, Jameis Winston has played the toughest schedule in football…
Since 2015, Tom Brady has played the easiest schedule in football…

2nd fun fact. Tom Brady was way better in all eye ball tests and metrics over those 5 years.

  30. orlbucfan Says:

Tell that semi-senile idiot to shove it. Bucs should have always been owned by us fans. This is beyond stupidity!!

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Orlbucfan……..you either don’t know what a fan is or you picked a bad screen name.

Go away now…….We got tons of bandwagnoers fittin to clog up the ship. You are no longer needed.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

geno711 – Why you so triggered by a fun fact? It’s literally a fact, and it was fun to learn. No reason to get so defensive about it.

  34. JayMissEyes Says:

Ndog. No we just blame his Jameis for his inaccurate throws and game winning touchdown passes to the opposing team.

  35. JimmyJack Says:

NEWSFLASH……..Winston is under contract with the Bucs. He is still a BUC.

His rookie contarct expires Tomorrow. He still a Bucs for a few more hours.

  36. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

    “I didn’t get chill-bumps, but I almost did.”

I’m not sure I can quite visualize it, can he send me a pic?

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Look at all these triggered morons just talking about Winston. Says everything about them – they’re not excited about Brady, they’re just happy Winston is gone. It’s literally a mental disorder. They’ve worked themselves into such a constant rage all they can think about is Winston.

    Winston bad. GRRRRR!!!

  38. RGD12 Says:

You just want the loser back, please move past this. My God please focus on a winner, that will never be the turnover machine. Should have never been drafted by any team ever. Considering his past
He will lose by himself 4-5 games a year, which means you have to be perfect in the rest to go to the playoffs. This o s who you have a man crush for Joe? Please!!!

  39. stpetebucsfan Says:

So Favre did say ONE thing about Brady I’ve NEVER heard uttered about “Blameless”.

    “Just a class act.”

  40. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucsfan – When does the nursing home disconnect your internet? Are the hours different because of the outbreak?

  41. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Buc boi ( who spells boy “boi” besides girls and 12 year olds? )

Jameis was never trash, he accomplished feats no other and few others have accomplished, both good and bad but mostly all good.

I find it disturbing you take so much pleasure trashing a man that put so many hours of hard work and dedication for this franchise. A guy that played through injuries and never threw a teammate under the bus when he had 100s of opportunities.
I find it sad that you like to call the NFLs passing champion a BUST and laugh at the prospect that he can’t find a job right now.
I find it deplorable to call this guy names over and over and beat on your chest when he has impacted hundreds of thousands of people in the bay area, especially children through his community efforts. While you’re contributions to this world consist of the methane deposits you leave in your mom’s basement.

You sir are a lowlife human being, but it’s never too late to change.

That also stands for many people who want to sit there and bash a 26 year old dude who was supposed to be his ‘football family’. I’m glad I’m not a part of yalls family.

  42. geno711 Says:

No Rod, I just called you out about an alleged fun fact which was thinly veiled as your appreciation for Jameis Winston over Tom Brady.

This article is about getting Brady and how good Brady is.

If we don’t get him – then you were right about that.

Your first post in this article called out anyone who got excited today about Brady coming an idiot because it was too soon in your estimation.

Most on this site do not accept you as the authority of when to tell others when and why they can get excited about something on the Buc’s team.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

geno711 – It’s not an alleged fun fact, it’s a real fun fact. I know it because who is 2nd on the easiest schedule list? Mariota. I keep track of this stuff because I like stats, and it’s fun to know stuff and not just being another boring dullard that just repeats what they hear some guy on the radio says.

Also, this article is about Brady —- that’s why the fun fact was about Brady’s, with a tie in to our starting QB for the last 5 season.

Anywho, if you’ve been a Bucs fan for more than 2 minutes you already know the Bucs history of blowing stuff – and why celebrating early backfires nearly every time. You do what you want, but it’s you dopes calling me out for not joining your early celebration cult that lead me to respond to you all…

If it happens, I’ll celebrate tomorrow.

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Rod

When do you go back to your cell? Do you have internet in jail?

  45. Bucsfanman Says:

Wow! We are such a divided fanbase. I cannot believe, as a Bucs fan, that there’s even discussion about Tom Brady coming here. I mean, forget about the semantics for a moment. Brady, the greatest QB of this generation, could land in Tampa Bay!
Look, eventually the dust will settle on this and we WILL have a starting QB come season start. WHO it will be is irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that this team has been IRRELEVANT for over a decade. This team has to be improved and there is NO position that cannot be upgraded. Let me repeat that: There is NO position that CAN’T be upgraded.
For the sake of this argument, there is ZERO question that Tom Brady is better than Jameis Winston.
WINNING is the name of this game.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Wow Rod you are getting laid to rest on each and every thread you e commented in today. This is getting embarrassing watching you resort to squirming.

I thinks it’s your little gereric catch phrases. They have run their course.

You have become a very predictable poster and your attempts of shock comments are just yawn worthy anymore.

You need to step your game up bro cause this is getting pathetic.

  47. Steven007 Says:

  65. geno711 Says:

Rod – ok so now I see your difficulty with the word alleged.

The typical primary definition means stated, declared or asserted. I used this primary definition.

It seems you took the secondary definition that might suggest questionably true which is the more negative approach.

Or maybe you took the criminal definition for alleged which would certainly be out of context.

  66. Dave Says:

“Rumor says Bucs gave brady say over roster!”

That rumor has been addressed. He would have increased control in the offense, not on roster.

  74. Ndog Says:

813 you truly a loser of a human being aren’t you?

  75. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Meaning: “That s play doesn’t work for me. This one does.”

  76. Adrnagy Says:

Jimmyjack, if that’s the case ….
    may the best GOAT win.

For us , we have to swing for homeruns. Trade d. Smith for Trent Williams. Draft defense. And sign a good RT.

  77. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    geno711 Says
“Wait Brett Favre said that Jameis Winston is good for the Buc’s and now says that Tom Brady is good for the Buc’s.

    How can that be?”

it can be both, you know.

  78. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai go read the Peterson article.(I’ll listen to his show tomorrow. Should be good).

Claims Brady will have input over the roster. So he will have some influence. Makes sense.

  79. Tye Says:

Nassib just signed with the Raiders!

  80. stpetebucsfan Says:

We can pick up a running back and a stud RT early in the draft.

Where are people seeing this. How on earth could we afford Gurleys 14 million on top of Brady’s $$$$. There are cheaper solutions.

ROJO has a catch % higher than David Johnson or Melvin Gordon but he has yet to master blocking. Fix that and he’s a great target out of the backfield for Brady.

Draft a pounder like Dillon to complement ROJO.

  81. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dang it. Raiders got Nassib.

  82. SteveK Says:

Would’ve been nice to keep Nassib, and wonder how much they paid?

If we had to choose between he or JPP then it’s a no brainer.

I believe- if Brady signs- we are going to do some major moves. And FAs will take less to play w him. This could be special if he agrees to play here. Hopefully we find out tomorrow.

  83. Couch Fan Says:

Am I the only one who thought Nassib wasnt very impressive in the new D, compared to what he was under Smith’s D?

  84. stpetebucsfan Says:

I like Nassib a lot…I like Brate a lot…by the end of the year I wanted Perriman back..they are all now luxuries if we sign Brady.

IF we sign Brady…pick up Dillon or another pounder to match with ROJO and a monster mean RT in the draft…a backup QB with high potential like Jalen Hurts.

I hope we can squeeze in Suh…if we do..and we use the rest of our draft and UDFA’s wisely…we ARE contenders!

  85. Rod Munch Says:

With Schefter reporting it, I’m starting to get a little more excited. But he still left a big out – saying “barring anything unforeseen”…

Still, the news is trending that way, but I’m still cautious until it’s a done deal.

  86. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brian Hill hit with a 5th round tender…that might be worth it. He’s only 24. Good average per carry. Would come cheap and he could compete for a starting role.

  87. JimmyJack Says:

St Pete. Getting a bruiser like that is a good plan. But it don’t match Bruce’s plan from what I heard.

He has said he wants a pass catching back for this system.

RoJo is not a good pass catcher. He is very awkward at it and doesn’t have that special ability to snag it and make that burst upfield in one motion.

Catch % don’t tell you much for RBs………I mean a simple toss is recorded as a catch…….Plays like them and screens are much different then asking a back to run actual routes and do stuff over the middle. Catch % can be taken out of context depending on which plays are deainged for you.

Bruce openly wanting a pass catching back tells you they want to design more pass plays for RBs……Plays they never asked RoJo to run.

Heck they asked Dare Ogunbowale to run more routes then RoJo. What does that tell ya?

    How can that be?”
it can be both, you know.

Sorry for the confusion. I was being sarcastic which is certainly hard to show sometimes in the written word. Thanks for the clarity.

  89. Rod Munch Says:

geno711 – It’s the internet, no big deal – like 99% of the humor I put in comments are lost on people because they think jokes are statements.

  90. geno711 Says:

Total conjecture here but if Brady has a lot more say over the roster than I could see Dion Lewis being a signee in the next few days. He had his best years with Tom Brady and then was a lost man in Tennessee behind Derrick Henry for two years.

One year for NE he caught 32 of 35 targets from Tom Brady. Obviously he would be an upgrade over Dare in both pass protect and receiver out of the backfield.

  91. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Devonta Freeman is a good receiving back, I think he’s be a good one-two combo with Rojo, assuming Freeman doesn’t have some problem we don’t know about.

  92. Old School Athlete Says:

The people who don’t want Tom Brady are the same people who wouldn’t want the Rays to sign Mike Trout. Come on Jason. Let’s get this deal done and forever change what it means to be a Buc.

  93. JimmyJack Says:

We weren’t going to afford Nassib. It didn’t make sense.

We got starting positions that need to be adressed. No time to spend money on a rotational player. Plus we got freaking Shaq last year for cheaper then Nassib will get………If our scout team can find quality players for that position then use em and let them do it again.

I did like Nassib but let’s be honest. When JPP was out and Nassib had a big role he was invisible. Great team player but his production can be replaced. Bring in a cheap FA you like and draft a guy you like and Nassib is easily replaced. Not a major loss.

Now let’s backload Brady’s contract and free up some dough and find us a Tackle and/or a RB.

  94. Rod Munch Says:

geno711 – Oh wow, I missed Dion Lewis getting cut. He’d actually be a perfect fit as a pass catching back – wouldn’t be that expensive I don’t think.

  95. Rod Munch Says:

Nassib – nice player, but I never thought they’d be able to afford to keep him. He’s too productive to be on the cheap, and not productive enough in this defense to pay a lot of money. We can’t keep everyone. Plus everyone says Winston is why the defense was so bad (which is stupid), so we really don’t need any of these guys. Put all resources into the offense and we’re good. Licht HAS to get a RT, and has to get whoever in the world Brady wants.

    Assuming Brady actually signs.

  96. wantstastayabuc Says:

I really like the excitement and optimism I’m seeing here! Go Bucs!

  97. JimmyJack Says:

Rod nice call……Whats between Freeman’s ears? I bet that’s what matters to a old-school Coach like Bruce……..Plus Bruce has been a RBs coach before so I bet he knows what to look for.

And with Brady controlling the huddle he will make somebody good. Remember Steven Ridley? James White?………Might not be a huge name we bring in.

  98. mark2001 Says:

This is definitely up upgrade…some on ESPN saying a possibly a 12 win team. A real contender. Why? For one thing in 7 bucs losses, Jameis had 18 turnovers. And they may be right.

  99. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

OK guys. Just heard from two well placed sources through text/calls & I trust these people:
“It’s done. Brady to the #Bucs.”
Confidence is HIGH. Announcement could happen within the next 24 hours.

  100. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    That was a TKras tweet.

  101. BigMacAttack Says:

Good thing they didn’t retire the legendary Dilfer Jersey 😝

  102. BringBucsBack Says:

Dang Big Mac, you just reminded me that I have a 20 year-old Dilfer jersey… time for a name change!

  103. cmurda Says:

I’m definitely getting a #12 Dilfer jersey as soon as the new jerseys come out.

  104. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JJ

I certainly accept your point about his “awkwardness” but the bottom line is that if you throw the ball in his direction the odds are good that he can snag it.

Again I think BA and Koetter’s objection was primarily because he can’t pass pro which makes him a real liability on 3rd down unless he’s the target. I’ve watched him whiff on many blocks.

If he wants to play his need to learn how to block just became critical. The Bucs are going to do everything to protect the GOAT and rb’s without pass pro skills are probably going to struggle to get on the field.
