The No. 1 Player In Free Agency

February 18th, 2020

Beast of free agency.

Brian Baldinger is a big fan of Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett. And Baldinger thinks he knows why Shaq got so good once he had an opportunity to start.

Baldinger, a former NFL offensive lineman who works for NFL Network and FOX Sports, likes to break down film and put highlights and observations on Twitter. In breaking down Shaq, Baldinger is convinced he learned some of his moves either directly from his former teammate in Denver, Von Miller, or that Shaq studied Miller.

In so many words, Baldinger thinks Shaq made himself into another DeMarcus Lawrence. Because of his 19.5 sacks this past year, Baldinger believes Shaq is the best free agent on the market — if he makes it that far.

“He’s going to be the No. 1 player in free agency,” Baldinger said. “Because getting to the quarterback is what it is all about.”

Baldinger is really going out on a limb here with this earth breaking Rachel Watson underwear dropping Analysis

    Damn the off-season is slow

  2. Larry Says:

Draft a QB and build around him. For the money 30/30 Winston is asking for, the Bucs could sign a lot of good players to help the team. Don’t waste 30 mil. a year on a QB you can’t trust, on of off the field.

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

His game is very similar to his mentor and teammate in Denver, Von Miller. In fact he was destined to be mired behind Miller so Licht offered him a shot on the Bucs to be a game day starter. Best decision Licht, and Shaq could make. Just think if he were still in Denver he may never had such a storybook season. He is truly a Buccaneer man and according to him, he loves it here.

He’s a truly a part of Buc history, and the future going forward. I’m glad he plays for US.

    Go BUCS!

  4. Not a blind bucs fan Says:

Sad that shaq barrett is player in free agency and winston is where your mind goes.News flash put every loss on the line, defense and special teams,oh and the QB it’s a team sport.Im a season pass holder and I see less bucs fans attend vs away teams.Show up or Shut up

  5. Cgmaster27 Says:

@larry, this is an article about shaq. Can you and the anti jameis winston crowd take a breath and get his jock out of your mouth for 1 article?

  6. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Franchise Shaq, sign JW3 to $25M one year, prove-it deal.

I am still of mind that JW going elsewhere, will be best for Bucs and JW.

Bruce/Jason are playing negotiating game with JW team. Bruce wants JW for another year…. JW wants to be in Tampa for long haul, given talent around him (absent
of running game, which JW has adjusted to)

W/Draft, RB should be addressed. and another OL. JW best future, is outside of BUCs, but JW will be signed to a new contract w Bucs. No way, is Bucco Bruce starting over in his offense, w/a new QB.

JW should pass on Bucs offer, and explore market – whatever that is…..as backup or starter.

I predict Gruden (Raiders) or Bill B (Patriots) will explore JW -If JW team takes his chances on the QB market.

Bucs are hosed, if Bruce has to train another QB, regardless of improving D. Bruce offense needs a big QB, willing and able to take a lot of pounding in his offense.

Bridgewater? Ouch… Rivers? Old… Dalton? maybe can take it. Rookie? -get real!

Bucs will offer JW something…..whether he accepts? Who knows….

Depends on JW team side-discussions/with other teams…..who are willing to take a flyer on a 5K yr passer w 30 TD’s —and 30 ints..

    Got my popcorn!

  7. Adrnagy Says:

Must be nice to be Having suh and vea pushing down the middle….. I’m down to play next To those two any day of the year. And with coach Bowles dialing up a blitz at the same time … I’ll be loving it !

  8. Clean House Says:

I agree w red zone BA fan,
Except I am not a BA fan

  9. Sarasota Garey Says:

I dont see to many people going crazy over him, except Bucs fans

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

Easily the best story to come out of 2019. The guy was just not going to get his shot in Denver. He’s a keeper!

  11. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Where is Jameis on the list of FA’s available in 2020 ?

  12. Jaywill Says:

2.5 sacks in 6 games against playoff teams. He dominated against bad teams and disappeared against good ones. Sort of like Dak last year.

  13. 1sparkybuc Says:

He’s not getting 19.5 sacks on any other Dline. He’s not likely to get that with the Bucs again, even if they manage to keep everyone. That said, I would expect a team franchise record in sacks. A full season with all of these guys could be iconic if teamwork can overcome greed.

  14. Hodad Says:

I love the sign JW to a one year prove it deal crowd. Guess what they’ve been seeing for the last five years hasn’t been enough. Jameis started his career with a pick six, his last throw as a Buc fittingly will have been for a pick six. That’s Jameis’s career in TB in a nutshell.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s difficult for me to give Licht much credit for Shaq……I credit BA & Bowles for most of our new players….FA’s & Draft………Shaq, Suh, Perriman…..and the draft with White, SMB, Dean, Edwards & even Gay…..perhaps Miller.

    Jettisoning GMC & VH3 are not Licht’s doing either…..

I’m quite sure we will do everything to resign our FAs…..

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    sign shaq to a 4year deal….JPP 3year deal…suh 1 year deal….nassib 2 yeard deal….

    JW, offer 2years 50mil, 1year 25mil guaranteed….

    sign jack conklin

draft kinlaw or brown in the 1st round….the RT from GA in the 2nd round…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  17. WestChap Says:

There’s no denying Shaq is a stud… even when he wasn’t getting sacks he was getting hurries/hits and demanding doubles. He is a package player though as he needs teammates like JPP, Vea and Suh to create NFL-leading pocket chaos. I used to think we had to tag him to be sure he’d remain elite… now I realize he’s the guy you need to lock up longer term… 4 years sounds right… I wonder if he’d take $60M with $30 guaranteed… $16 signing and salary of 4, 10, 15, 15 would make for a very team friendly hit of $8 in 2020 while putting $20 cash in Shaq’s pocket. All with the cap room to keep the JPP/Suh boys around for next 2 years so we can see what this team can do. Win now!

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Shaq isn’t a fluke, but he’s not getting 20 sacks again. If you pay him like he’s a 20-sack guy, then you’re an idiot. I think he’ll be good for 10-12 sacks, which by the way, is great production – way more than we’ve had in a very long time. But to think he’s going to repeat this is insane.

That’s why you franchise him. If he does repeat that insane production, then yeah, you happily make him the highest paid defensive player in the history of the NFL.

But if he drops back to 10-12 sacks, you say, great production – lets get a contract done based on that production, which is great.

If he threatens a holdout or whatever, then you just deal with it because you don’t bankrupt the future of the team based off one year of production that came out of the blue. If he can do it again, then as I said, you do break the bank and risk the future of the team on him – but not yet. Right now he could just be another Wayne Haddix for all we know.
