“Joe Flacco Would Be A Good Fit In Tampa”

February 7th, 2020

Ex-QB weighs in.

The down-on-Jameis crowd keeps getting louder.

And two of them were talking to the nation yesterday about America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Former Bears and Steelers starting QB Jim Miller, alongside his SiriusXM NFL Radio co-host and former NFL personnel man and coach Pat Kirwan, spoke in the past tense about Jameis in Tampa.

Neither believes Jameis would accept a modest contract from the Bucs. So they’ve moved on in their line of thinking.

Miller was adamant that Jameis’ turnovers cost the Bucs three wins last season. And Kirwan thinks the Bucs absolutely cannot waste the talents of Chris Godwin and Mike Evans.

“Joe Flacco to me would be a good fit in Tampa. … Flacco, he’d be perfect to me,” Miller said, commenting on what would be best for the Bucs if they don’t draft a QB in Round 1.

Option 2 for Miller? Wait for it … I appears to be Andy Dalton — because of what Bruce Arians experienced as Browns offensive coordinator in 2002.

“I think they can win with Andy Dalton because he’s done it before,” Miller said. “Think about back in Cleveland when [Arians and the Browns] won with [Kelly] Holcumb, Holcumb actually led [the Browns] to them to the playoffs; he’s like an Andy Dalton type of player.”

Flacco at 35 years old? Well, Joe could see Arians liking the arm and the experience. And the same would go for Dalton, who Joe would prefer if one was forced (tortured?) to choose between those retreads.

For those wondering, Flacco is under contract with Denver and is due $20.2 million in 2020.

Kirwan pleaded for the Bucs to pursue fixing the QB position in the draft.

“Package anything to draft the guy you want,” Kirwan said. “So you give away the ranch and you get the guy you want. You want to keep doing the average thing?”

Both Miller and Kirwan said they would applaud the Bucs trading up to draft QB Justin Herbert out of Oregon.

I don’t agree. I’d rather have Shane Falco.

I would rather sell the farm for TUA.

  3. footballjunkie Says:

    Kirwan… Miller…

  4. Big_Buc$ Says:

No I’d pass on both. When both QBs were at the top of there game whats the two things they had that always worked for them not matter what? They both had a running game and a defense. I’d take my chances with Jameis coming back or drafting a QB. IMO you gotta let both of them or the rookie come in and learn this offense which we have heard from former QB Carson Palmer that it takes a while to get an understanding. So Jameis in year 2 of this offense or Rookie QB learning is your best options as long as the RT, and running game is addressed along with the defense playing good every week from the start of the game.

  5. AtlBucs Says:

Nah! We’ll keep Jameis, coach him up and he will lead us to the promised land

  6. AtlBucs Says:

Billy, I wasn’t impressed with Tua.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Would rather have Rivers or Brady or Brudgewater without having to trade a player or pick…..
For the exception of Bridgewater (age)……we would need to draft a QB for the future…..
Even keeping Winston, it would be prudent to draft a QB.

Thanks to Winston’s inconsistency we need to have a plan B.

  8. SammyRebel Says:

Who writes these articles who says this mess why why why I’m really sick of this Flacco sucks so bad he can’t even move Andy Dalton is average at best and a midget hell no id rather have jameis than those two

  9. Adrnagy Says:

Watch out … here comes 813 to agree that flacco is the best option bcuz he throws less INT and 813 gets to keep shaq! Lol
    GO BUCS!!!

    Lol.

I want Jameis gone! But I’d rather him get a long term contract than see Flacco anywhere near our ugly uniforms.

  15. Mort Says:

    Lol no.

  16. TexBuc Says:

Glazers fired Dunghy for not opening up the offense, and fired Gruden for constantly using recycled QB’s. My opinion is the Glazers want a just turned 26 yrs old QB with 5 yrs experience. Just a little maturity will calm down a cocky young QB.

  17. Robert Says:

    game manager- I’ll take it.

    lose the crabman

  18. Tye Says:

Joe Flacco should be at the bottom of the list…
If Arians prefers Flacco over the others then as long as they start winning, welcome to Tampa!
But Dalton seems to be more suitable..
Carr would be the most intriguing if they could aquire him…

Eason, Fromm or possibly even Hurts should not be passed up if they fall to the Bucs in the 2nd round!

  19. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    oh God, please no.

I will literally take ANYONE over Flacco.

I think you’re on to something. BA is supposed to be this great QB whisperer, so let it fall on him. He picks a loser he’s gone and I don’t have to deal with all the contingencies that will fill these articles between now and the start of 2020 season. He gets paid the big bucks and he is going to do whatever he wants anyway. As long as he doesn’t screw up the Defense I could care less.

How could you possibly say something like that…….

  25. Adrnagy Says:

Not sure how many SB he won. I know that ray Lewis , ngata, Ed reed ,Suggs ,tucker etc won.

Pls listen … go and open your eyes while watching football.

I guess bucs are in so of a desperate mode. Listen Bruce took the job bcuz of jameis. He defended jameis through the season and int. This is all a negotiation delay. We will get jameis on a 4 yr 100M.

Im all for letting Winston go, but Flacco? No. No. And…. no.

  29. DoooshLaRue Says:

Hard no on Flacco but JayMiss must go.
    Figure it out Licht!

  30. mark2001 Says:

Adrnagy…where did you get that Bruce took the job because of Jameis? He took the job because Licht asked him too, the Glazers wrote him almost a blank check, and he was intrigued by Jameis. He wants Jameis to succeed…but isn’t such a small man as to collect another years paycheck trying to make a silk purse out of someone incapable of being a franchise QB. He will put the best QB behind center he can,…and if we move on from Jameis, rest assured that we as an organization don’t believe Jameis is the answer.

  31. SteveK Says:

For the #turnoverblind, we can win games with another QB it’s possible. Heck, they might even win more than they lose! What’s that like?

  32. Stanglassman Says:

This is what we get after driving Jameis out of town. Joe freaking Flaco. Welcome to your future Jameis haters. You all will have earned it.

  33. NPRSageBoy. Says:

Tom Brady or Derek Carr. Maybe Andy Dalton and draft a JayMiss replacement.

Flacco was named Super Bowl XLVII’s MVP, concluding a postseason run in which he tied Joe Montana’s single postseason record for touchdown passes (11) without an interception.

BA took the job because of licht….

“There’s so much good and there’s so much outright terrible.” — Bruce Arians on Jameis Winston, Dec. 29, 2019…..DOES THAT SOUND LIKE HE WAS DEFENDING HIM?…..

AND WHO CAN FORGET THE FAMOUS,”Oh yeah. We can win with this one. We can definitely win with another one too because we’re going to have a defense,” Arians replied.

not once did BA say, sure we can win with JW because he can throw for 5k yards……lol….not once did BA say, we need JW in order to win….not once did BA say, JW aint going anywhere…..

we’re going to win next because of our defense….not because we have a QB that throws 30INTs….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  37. Couch Fan Says:

    @Mark2001

Thats there way of convincing themselves Jabooboo isnt going anywhere. Sure, BA took the job solely because of Jameis and wont stay if Jameis leaves. LMAO. Ridiculous.

If you’re trading for a QB, what about Josh Rosen?

  39. SteveK Says:

    Preach 813!

    No more being #TurnoverBlind.

  40. Buczilla Says:

IMHO the only qb worth a first round pick is Burrow. Too many issues with the others. Keep Jameis, sign Dalton or Flacco as a backup and draft a QB in the second or third round. If Jameis wants more than he made last year, let him walk.

We all just want the Bucs to win but I dont think anyone is silly enough to think Flacco is any sort of upgrade to Winston. Heck I’d rather bring Garcia out of retirement before signing Flacco. I do miss Carmella…

  42. 813bucboi Says:

this idiot is the only person on the planet that thinks BA came out of retirement because he was giddy about coaching JW….lol…..

    man thats embarrassing!!!!!….lol…..

you must think pigs fly and 30INTs aint a bad thing…..

    oops….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  43. Anonymous Says:

The Bucs should absolutely go after either Flacco or Dalton because it would be a terribly timed bad decision and that’s exactly what this franchise does and has done since Rich McKay left. The team is on an upswing and you cannot lose ground. I’d rather keep JW for one year and draft a QB. Just from a shear odds making standpoint can JW possibly have more pick 6 debacles and other bad mistakes that lose games? I say no so stick with him on a limited contract until or unless someone at least equal comes along. Flacco and Dalton are both inferior.

  44. Ndog Says:

I love it, so you guys want Jameis gone so yeah let’s go get Joe Flacco or Andy Dalton!!!!

If I wasn’t a Bucs fan and wouldn’t be hurt by this would be exactly what I would wish on you people so you could see how incredibly stupid you are.

My goodness you people are CLUELESS!!!!

  45. doolnutts Says:

I wouldn’t touch Joe Flacco. Very overrated.

The hate on Andy Dalton though I don’t understand. A Winston supporter will look at Winston’s TD numbers, yards and highlight the success of Winston through that aspect but they ignore Andy Dalton altogether. The problem is Andy Dalton I would argue is equal to or better than Winston and can be traded for on a reasonable contract. Andy is a proven winner(see his record) and is at this point in time a more consistent QB than Winston. Has anyone actually looked at Dalton and Winston’s numbers side by side through the first 5 years of Andy’s tenure? What part of Winston’s play is leaps and bounds better? Everyone seems to gasp at the thought but there isn’t much that says Winston is that much better if better at all.

  46. Tackleblockwin Says:

Flacco to the Bucs = No thank you.

  47. Craig Says:

It sounds like you just tossed a bunch of names into a hat and are pulling them out when you run short of worthwhile topics.

BA would have an easier time building up a rookie than correcting all of the wrong things in most pro QBs. Each has a dozen or two bad habits to get turned into bad BA habits. A rookie has more of an upside.

  48. Couch Fan Says:

I do agree with Kirwin though. I think this team is put together enough now that a big trade up to get our guy would be worth it.

  49. Adrnagy Says:

“I think he can win it all,” Arians said. “I mean, he has the intelligence, the toughness, and obviously the arm, ability to lead a team. We have to put the right pieces around him.”

It’s GM Jason Licht’s job to put those pieces around Winston. The first and biggest piece is Arians.

  50. Adrnagy Says:

Arians on Winston: “His willingness to work is unbelievable. He’s in the office at 5 o’clock in the morning. I have no qualms about that. There’s no doubt. The whole thing is going to be built around him.” (cont.)

  51. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I am honestly so F’ING TIRED at this point of all the infighting amongst all of us, regarding Jameis…. that I am completely resigned to being good with whatever the BUCS decide to do.

As long as it is not something ridiculous, like Flacco.

  52. catcard202 Says:

No thank you…Would rather roll w/ a rookie wildcard.

  53. Sport Says:

Fix the turnovers, penalties and special teams. Our defense is on the rise, we have the best pass catching weapons in the history of this franchise.

I believe a lot of quarterbacks would be successful on this team. I’ll let BA choose who that is.

    In BA I Trust!

  54. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Pretty much Tampa bay demon. Granted the Winston defense force has been horrifically insufferable to blame every possible factor as minuscule as it could be for Winston’s play. And are convinced this team is so bad and Winston is so good he literally wills us to every single win we have. And completely ignores the countless games he has pissed away.

  55. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’d rather bring back Jameis rather than this. If Jameis asks for too much money, and the Raiders sign Brady (as I suspect they will) I’d see about a Derek Carr trade. A 2nd Rounder this year would be my offer (if we could get him for less, all the better).

    Other moves:
Sign a decent free agent OL that won’t cost too much
Sign most of our free agents (I think Nassib and Perriman will be gone, though)
    1st Round: Best edge rusher
    3rd Round: RB or OL
    4th Round OL or RB

  56. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’m a Winston supporter, but I haven’t made too many excuses for him. Really, some of the interceptions had circumstances involved in them, but how many times did he throw it right to the defensive guy and they dropped it? It seemed like to be about 10 times throughout the 2019 season. I think he will decrease the turnovers if brought back (still probably in the high teens, low twenties for INT’s).

    Is going to happen? Nooooo

  59. rrsrq Says:

  61. mark2001 Says:

Michigan…how many times did Jameis fail to move the chains, going for the big play or missing the open man? Hold the ball too long trying to make a play and take a sack. Force the ball into coverage? Too many.

But if Ints are your issue, how many times did he throw the ball to a defender that failed to catch an easy interception? Too many.

Just saying… if Bruce decides to keep Jameis, so be it..he knows far more than me. But if he doesn’t, seems there are many more reasons than you seem to consider to decide as he does.

  62. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Lol… I think that Joe(s) writes these articles just to get everyone worked up. I tip my hat to you on this one Joe, because the keep him/dump him groups are unified on Flacco. 71. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

  72. Wesley Says:

  73. Joe in Michigan Says:

mark2001: What you say is true. Winston did hold on to the ball way too long most of the time. I remember one game he actually threw it away a few times, I mentioned on here where that was “improvement”, IMHO. I got roasted by a few commenters, saying it’s ridiculous to praise someone for throwing the ball away. Well, it’s a football move, something that has to be done at times. Jameis needs to do it more often if nothing’s there, IMHO.

  74. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’d rather not have Josh Rosen on the Bucs. That’s just my opinion, of course. Read up on him when he was coming out of UCLA, how he demanded a trade after the Cardinals took Kyler Murray (instead of battling it out with him), and how his career has gone so far. Probably will be on his 3rd team in 3 years.

  75. Tbbucs3 Says:

    No to Tom Brady
    No to Philip Rivers
    Bleep no to Joe Flacco

It’s either Winston or if you can get your hands on Derrick Carr

I hope the Bucs understand how much signing an “old” free agent QB will set this franchise back because your getting 1-2 decent years from a has been free agent and then your gonna rely on an unknown QB from a VERY weak QB draft class? That move will set this franchise back another decade.

  76. Tbbucs3 Says:

Some people think Jameis is so bad that they would actually rather trade for Josh Rosen. Blows my mind.

That’s dilulsional. That’s just people being blind to all the good things Jameis does and focusing on 1 aspect of his play.

  77. DaBux Says:

Ummm, no. Someone is on crack.

  78. Pewter Power Says:

i think any big arm quarterback with smarts can have a good season under BA.
