Does Arians Want “Brock Osweiler?”

February 16th, 2020

Damning comparison.

This has Joe spooked all to hell.

Joe has always been keen on the idea of the Bucs drafting Washington quarterback Jacob Eason. Draft him as a CYA move in case Jameis fully melts down next season or draft him to eventually take over for old, immobile Jameis, new Florida resident Philip Rivers.

But NFL draft/film analyst Lance Zierlein of NFL Network gave Joe the shivers in a recent breakdown of Eason.

Zierlein thinks “the general manager in Tampa Bay” Bruce Arians might fall in love with Eason, draft him and wave goodbye to Jameis.

Zierlein noted Eason looks like a young Carson Palmer in the pocket. But then Zierlein freaked Joe out when he said Eason transforms into Brock Osweiler when a pocket collapses.

Why does this freak Joe out? Arians’ offense is notorious for quarterbacks throwing from a contested pocket. So if Eason struggles so much when the pressure caves in on him, then he would be toxic playing for Arians.

See what Zeirlein has to say about Eason and Arians in the video below.

  1. tmaxcon Says:

That would be a total buc move

  2. Ndog Says:

Just put in the tape vs the only good defense he faced all year in Utah and any excitement will quickly fade away

  3. Marine Buc Says:

When pressured, Eason produced the 76th-best grade among 92 quarterbacks, and over half of his downfield passes under pressure were uncatchable. That’s not what you’d like to see from a potential franchise quarterback.

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Won’t happen.

One thing I have learned over so many Bucs drafts…they always do the unexpected.

  5. geno711 Says:

So I ask NDOG, who is the one other quarterback that may be available to the Buc’s this offseason either through free agency or draft that you might like besides Jameis Winston?

I am not saying even as much because I do not think that exists for you. Give us one other guy that might like.

Can’t say Burrows because he will not be available. I will even give you the option of saying Tua, Brees or Prescott although it is very unlikely that those three would be available.

You can even like Jameis slightly better but at least give us a QB that is in at least the same discussion in your mind.

Because I get tired of your dialogue that no one is as good as Jameis.

  6. ncbucsfan Says:

I viewed the Utah tape…..and as Ndog said….excitement gone!!

  7. Chris Says:

I wouldn’t write this kid off bc he’s raw but I also wouldn’t take him in round 1.

  8. BrianBucs Says:

I love how all of the so-called experts always love to compare college players to pro players.
Kinda like pre-draft 2015 when these experts were comparing Winston to Byron Leftwich, Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell.
Should have compared Winston to Santa Claus seeing how he loves to generously give the ball away like it’s a present

  9. JP_09 Says:

I viewed the Carolina London tape all excitement gone……not saying Eason’s the answer but in his worst game of the year he still threw 4 tds vs 2 INTs. I’d be willing to put 1k up that if the Bucs draft Eason and he starts all 16 games he will not throw 30 INTs

  10. LongSeason Says:

‘Os Brockweiler Jr’ doesn’t sound appealing. I still like a one year deal for Santa Claus to see if he can improve on INT numbers and still maintain the big play ability. If he can’t after eyes fix, knee re-hab and 2nd year in offense, then he ain’t fixable. We need to address the OL the way we addressed DB last year. We may also need to address DL depending on who we let walk in free agency.
By the way, just to calm some people about Jacob Eason. He is the son of Tony Eason but not the same Tony Eason who played QB for New England.

  11. Swampbuc Says:

No worries Joe. Eason will be a Buc right after Trent Dilfer comes out of retirement to be the stop gap.

  12. Mr. Reality Says:

    HAAHAHAHAHAHA.

    No.

  13. OneBuc55 Says:

    The grass ain’t greener guys…

No! to the over the hill sack magnet pocket passer, and a definite No! to a rookie QB (especially Eason)…As I said weeks ago 30 ints is an anomaly that’ll never happen again in Winstons career; its not his new norm…Jameis will get better and he will win games eventually when/if the team around him gets better along with a balance in play-calling…

Get a deal done that works for both sides; all of this talk of attendance going down if Jameis is resigned is nonsense… Attendance is down league wide…And let’s be honest attendance at Ray J was an issue well before Jameis arrived in Tampa…All of you chicken little Jameis bashers need to relax; the sky isnt falling…

  14. Bucs Guy Says:

If Vegas Raiders get TB12, Bucs should go for Carr. Solid, doesn’t turn the ball over and reasonably priced at $20M a year with 3 years left on his contract.

  15. MadMax Says:

I liked Eason at first, but then watched a few full games and went NO!

Thats why i havent been promoting him.

Anthony Gordon please….(Love will be gone and i dont want to trade up for him) Trade up for Simmons or Brown if Suh isnt coming back…..or trade the farm for #1 Burrow!

  16. firethecannons Says:

Worry more that the Bucs will get Brock Osweiler not this guy who may be like Brock Osweiler

  17. Perimeter Blocker Says:

    Draft, Develope, Suck, Repeat…. 🙄

  18. Mr. Reality Says:

    No Jameis. No Eason.

And to think all this will be revealed in a few short months.

    Thank God.

  19. ruggyup Says:

Right on target is “firethecannons”, sooooooo take another long look at Jacoby Brissett!

  20. BigZ Says:

Overrated. The only QB to draft this or next year is Lawrence. He’s the real deal. He’ll command an RG3 deal but appears worth it.

  21. NPRSageBoy. Says:

I gotta ask Ndog: which QB NOT named JayMiss excited you?

I can’t wait to hear your response

    Peace, out.

  22. OneBuc55 Says:

@Madmax I understand the Burrow love; he played exceptionally well 1 year in his college career and the media is really pumping him up…

That said, I hate to be the one to pee in your cheerios but he won’t have 5 or 6 seconds to find an open receiver in the NFL, especially here in Tampa…Not to mention, we won’t be able to draft much talent to help him win over the next few years if we “trade the farm” to get’em…

It’s a Bucs Life man, nothing wrong with dreaming…

  23. Jean Lafitte Says:

Winston supporters are so afraid that the only comment they have on Eason is negative. So typical ..lol

  24. Billy_45 Says:

I hope they do what they have to (Move Up) and get Justin Herbert.

The problem is if Tua doesn’t look ready at his Pro Day, then Herbert won’t make it past pick 6.

I don’t think the Bucs should move up that far anyway.

If he makes it to pick 7, they should be ready to pounce.

I actually think it’s between him and Fromm when we look back in 10 years.

  25. JP_09 Says:

    Eason RD 1

  26. OneBuc55 Says:

Lol Eason..Yeah, let’s go get Eason… he’ll come in a take straight to the playoffs…that happens all the time with rookie QBs

  27. JP_09 Says:

At this point Winston is 0 for 5 making the playoffs, time to build the team and give someone else a shot

  28. JP_09 Says:

I’ll say it for the 100th time when you choose to throw the ball to Barber while he’s covered by Sherman and you also have Evans, Godwin, Perriman and Howard on the field. He can’t even read the defense pre snap, a 6 year old QB would know not to throw that ball

  29. ATrain Says:

Please Bucs DONT DRAFT A QB

    Sign Jamies for 5 Years

Then after 5 years of Turnovers and Bottom finishes

The Glazers can sell the team
Jamies can ride out with a pile of Cash
NFog can EAT CROW ( but Mr Excuse Machine will go in full effect)

Sadly Jamies Lovers will stick by this guy no matter

Bucs will stay Browns of the South because they don’t demand Quality

  30. ATrain Says:

    NFog or Mr Facts

Please tell me What Teams are looking at Jamie’s if he is cut

The Bears. Hahah the same team that gave Glennon a big contract

No one else is looking. WHY????? Mr Facts

  31. Chris Says:

Just go back to the evaluations on pat mahomes. Very few were glowing and just as many questions and risks were thrown on him.

It’s tough to evaluate guys who played with lesser talent around them. Washington was decimated from 2018 graduates. Eason didn’t really fit the offense and it was his first year back with basically two years off.

He’s raw but but bc he’s 6’6 with a rocket he’s getting Brock Osweiler comps. Dude hadn’t played football in two years bc of injury and declined to play immediately after transferring.

  32. OneBuc55 Says:

    Great point JP…

In a perfect NFL world, every QB picked #1 overall takes his team to the playoffs in his first 5 years…And the teams that picks these guys aren’t usually dumpster fire franchises either…

    Once again, great point

  33. Bculaw Says:

I’d rather draft the guy he couldn’t beat out at UGA. You want to get rid of JW because of his decision making and TOs? Fine. Go get a QB with tremendous football intelligence, leadership, and decision making, and the same physical tools that Drew Breeze had coming out of Purdue. Fromm has always been the underdog. Get him in the 2nd or 3rd, give him a defense and a run game the next couple of years, and watch the team take off.

  34. Chris Says:

It’s easy to go ahead and evaluate burrow and Tua. They were great players on great teams.

But you have to look at how guys were coached up. Did Eason have good coaching? Jake Fromm wasn’t asked to do much than be a care taker with the ball. But watch the sec title game in 2018. Dude stepped up and delivered big time.

Jalen hurts wasn’t developed as a passer his first three years. He gets one spring/summer with Reilly and he looked like a different Qb.

  35. JP_09 Says:

Soooo how many QBs have been taken #1, played 5 years for the team that drafted them, didn’t make the playoffs then were offered a second contract?

  36. Jean Lafitte Says:

Lol Eason..Yeah, let’s go get Eason… he’ll come in a take straight to the playoffs…that happens all the time with rookie QBs
    ___________________________________________________________

You made my point exactly. You are in fear because in your delusional brain you see him as a threat to your precious. What do you say to your fellow fans next season if Jameis does poorly again? Oh well? He’s had 5 seasons and there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Jameis will be great in his sixth season. Especially after finishing the last two games with 6 turnovers and 3 pick sixes.

So relax, No-one has said make Eason the first day starter.

  37. Jk Says:

I don’t know if anyone had ever heard about this. Would be a nice article for joe. But apparently Our gm Jason has a burner account that he fights Jameis bashers on Twitter. I’m a Jameis supporter but this is crazy. Watch this he even does interviews as the twitter source….

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PODaUl4zY_w

    Same voice and all.
Crazy cause I’m from philly and we had to deal with this from our sixers gm.

  38. Howard Cosell Says:

Winston is utterly fearless in a collapsing pocket. He thrives there

  39. OneBuc55 Says:

BA aka Mr. No Riskit, no biscuit has finally met his match with JW…

I think was hired to “fix” Jameis and he got worst in the picks Dept…Imo, BA has to accept “some” of the blame for that… wether you guys like it or not Winston will be back in Tampa “ballin” in 2020…

  40. TexBuc Says:

Winston does not credit for his ability to operate under pressure. You cannot coach fear out of a QB. Yes Winston does need to take the next step and mature or grow up a bit which will calm him down.

  41. Buczilla Says:

Scratch one potential qb off the list if more “draft gurus” come out with similar evaluations of Eason. Imo Jameis is better than every free agent out there outside of Brady. I’d love to get Stafford, but supposedly even if Detroit traded him they would still have to eat 32 million in cap space this year. That trade is not happening. I’m resigned to grin and bear it with Winston one more year in the hopes that he can finally put it all together (maniacal laughter insues).

  42. Adrnagy Says:

I’m waiting for the tony romo to Bucs article …

  43. Pewter power Says:

This is why these jokers are on tv and not running a team this is absurd. Let’s makes moves based on saving money not winning is that the goal? I dont hate Winston the much to bring in that garbage. That’s an insult unless winston thinks hes a franchise quarterback worth 30 million. Winston above average arm below average decision making which explains throwing double digit interceptions even in a year he was suspended and benched

  44. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

NPR – none of the options you listed are better than Winston. NDog doesn’t need to respond to one of the JW derangement syndrome sufferers like you. Get your pacifier ready because Jaboo going to be your QB next year and winning lots of games. Then after next year he is going to want a multi year dear in the range of $40M per. You are going to have to lose your sh1t again next year during the offseason.

  45. Swampbuc Says:

At a restaurant, different IP address.

Good golly, Warren Sapp is still right about the average Bucs fan qualifying to ride the short bus. Obviously not too many successful directors of winning teams of any kind blabbing around here.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

With all due respect none of these draft grades or judgements mean squat. I don’t know if success in the NFL is related more to the team and situation these guys go to or if it’s what’s between the ears that matters…….But the cold hard fact is draft grades very very rarely pan out.

Winston and Mariota have both struggled as #1 and 2 picks. Mitch Trubisky was taken over Mahommes. Johnny Manzeel was a first rounder niether Goff or Went look spectacular as too choices. Rosen can’t even get a starting job……I could go on and on.

This isn’t a recent trend either. History is filled with draft grade wiffs. Marino and Rodgers plummeted in the draft. Ryan Leaf and Jamar us Russell were supposed to be great. Matt Lienart was a top end draft pick. We took Trent Dilfer as a First Round. Tom Brady was nearly undrafted for crying out loud……..Nobody knows nothing.

The one good thing for our Bucs is we got a coach who has been extremely successful with rookies QBs…….If he likes somebody I’m down.

  48. Tye Says:

I don’t know how we can definitively conclude what Arians wants BUT with all this silence, rumors and lack of commitment we can deduce that Arians doesn’t seem to want JW…
If the Bucs do resign him, it will likely be reluctantly..

Imagine dating someone your heart is not really into BUT the one your with is available and you have to pick someone…
Arians might be married to Winston but he’ll have eyes for others all season that he wished he would have had!

  49. Joe in Michigan Says:

That’s what makes the NFL Draft so interesting, nobody knows how good (or bad) a player will be until given the chance. One of the reasons I want Winston back is so that we don’t use a 1st Rounder on a QB this year. I kinda have a bad habit of thinking a player from a certain school reminds me of someone, such as:
    Jacob Eason=Brock Huard
    Ashtyn Davis=Chris Conte
    Jake Fromm=Eric Zeier

  50. BigHog Says:

Im going to say that the BUC front is doing their DUE DILIGENCE…they should have been committed by now to Mr. 5,000 (that’s in my mind), Mr. 5,000 is the (only) QB for this club at this time…even with the turnovers, BOSS BRUCE said keep throwing it downfield. Mr.. 5,000 is tirelessly working on his turnover and interception problem as I speak!! Bruce will not give up on Mr. 5,000 because there is nothing on the free-agent or draft board that do what Mr. 5,000 can make it do! As we look forward to the 2020 season, enjoy the good and hate the bad of the 2019 season ….but know the best will come in 2020 !!! GO BUCS …SUPER BOWL with Mr. 5,000!!!

    It is BS.

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

For any prospect going into the right system/situation is everything.

Patrick Mahomes was the perfect fit for Andy Reid (WestCoast)/Chris Ault (Pistol) style offense.

Could Jacob Eason be the perfect for Bruce Arians Air Coryell style offense?

  56. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

Big fan of Anthony Gordon as well.

  57. MadMax Says:

Whats up LUV?! Yeah, after doing some research and seeing his senior bowl, i was sold. He’s under the radar to the low iq. I mean granted the bar was low with the talent he faced, but i think he has more potential than Love and def Herbert, and could still be had late 2nd/early 3rd! Jalen is the only other one id be willing to take late 2nd/early 3rd.

    Simmons/Brown
    Biadasszzz
    Gordon

    Thats my top 3.

  58. Ndog Says:

Question for you guys if they don’t want Jameis why have they not come out and said it like the Chargers did with Rivers? It’s called negotiations as they want him back but at the lowest price possible. The only reason they are talking about other QBs at all are as fallbacks in case they need to franchise Shaq and can’t sign Jameis to a multi year deal.

  59. Craig Says:

The main thing about Eason is that he got beaten by a freshman QB by the name of Jake Fromm. Then he moved all the way from Georgia to Washington, probably so he would never see Fromm again in his college career.

Now Fromm is in the same draft as Eason and you are talking about Eason instead of Fromm.

Fromm is projected to be a 2nd round QB, if the Pats don’t take him late. Burrow and Tua will be way too expensive to try to get hands on. Cincinnati understands how much they can get for that pick. Tua is going to visit the sunny shores of Miami, and they have so many picks they can laugh at everyone else.

Fromm might go to the Chargers, but they seem to like Herbert more.

The Bucs could move down and grab him. He is a winner, beating out not just Eason, but Justin Fields of Ohio State. If they get a 2nd round pick out of the deal they can get both a RT and a RB there.

I would really like either McKinney or Delpit drafted as a safety, but I think Mr. 5,000 needs to go because even the Times says he cost them 112 points last season. I have no reason to trust him.

  60. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

We will see. Can’t wait. I love the Bucs and I love arguing football with you.

  61. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

    Grinding brotha how about you?

The kid is definitely a gamer.
But I could actually see Gordon dropping to the 4th or 5th round.
Especially if there’s a couple runs at two positions.

Jalen’s another kid that would be great – but that would mean someone’s drafting for the next coach (Greg Roman/Eric Bieniemy?)

  62. adam from ny Says:

if you can bring all key defensive players back, as well as perriman…

  65. Hodad Says:

Moving forward with a QB who half the fan base wants gone is bad business. The other half that wants Jameis back will turn on a dime if he falters. Why are we not hearing about QB needy teams who want Jameis? The Bronco’s are always QB shopping, think Elway would want Jameis? It’s not just the silence from the Bucs. No one is claiming Jameis will be the hottest QB on the market should he become a FA. Chargers need a QB, haven’t heard any rumors they want Jameis. Why is that Jameis fans?

  66. SmoothBayRider Says:

STILL WAITING FOR NDOG to answer Geno711’s question . Lol

  67. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Even though the Jameis bashers gave good reason to want him gone a number if you have a certain hate that goes beyond football. The funny thing is only one of you ever speaks of the good things he did on the field. Yeah he’s always had int problems and bone headed plays but all you clowns do is harp on the negative things and you all say the same thing over and over. It’s easy to tell what your political affiliation is. I don’t care about the yards but he did throw 30 tds with no run game to speak of and helped lead us to the 3rd best offense in the entire league. I too have somewhat given up on him but not completely because of the positives he does give this offense. With that being said if Brady came or Derek Carr is available I say make that trade! Those are the only two better than the one we got now. It is true 5 years is long enough to get it together.
