“December Wasn’t What I Was Hoping To See”

February 25th, 2020

Bucco Bruce Arians acknowledged today in the bowels of the Indianapolis Convention Center that he is somewhat down on America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

“December wasn’t what I was hoping to see. There are so many good things on the film (pause) and I think they can be corrected,” Arians said.

The comments came after Arians acknowledged he’s a little disappointed that questions about Jameis that were present entering the 2019 campaign still remain.

Yes, today’s overall vibe on Jameis from Arians and general manager Jason Licht was not one that would make you think they’re excited to bring back Jameis for his sixth Bucs season.

Bruce and Jason are now in the hater category.

    Mr Unknown Quantity

  3. LordCornelius Says:

10 INT in the final 4 games will leave a pretty bad taste in most mouths.

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

Good thing the amateur gm shopped for coaches that would only work and fix jay-miss!!!!!!!!!!!!! This franchise is in shambles!!!!!!!!!!!! The real fans are just counting down the days until the clean house and fresh start will begin after another wasted season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. SteveK Says:

    Realist,

I will believe we have a chance once America’s turnover
Machine is shown the free agency door!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. chris L Says:

is anyone really looking forward to bringing him back and he will cut down in interceptions? the turnovers are wild and nothing indicates it will end. can that be proven otherwise? no wonder they are scared. were making arians and licht out to be like devils and jameis as god. the guy threw 30 interceptions. do numbers not matter?

  7. Craig Says:

Jameis has only two speeds. One is the gunslinger that tosses nigh onto as many interceptions as touchdowns.

The other is that turtle that got all of 68 yards in the second half of the Indy game.

Neither of those things will get you onto the yellow brick road to the Stupor Bowl. If he comes back he will be on the bench by the fourth game.

  8. Pepsi Says:

I got the vibe that he’s still one of the options but they have targets in mind and the dust of FA has to settle a bit before they can make their decision. Which is what 90% figured was the case immediately after the season based on Winstons play and Arians remarks. My guess is that they need to see if Brady is actually available. And if something happens in Oakland causing Carr to be available. Or maybe if lions are shopping Stafford. Bucs are looking to see what’s behind door number 2 as Bruce has put it. He’s not joking about that. They want to see what’s realistically available as another option

  9. Tye Says:

wisdom in any relationship is to ask,’Can I live with their flaws/false/bad habits?’
It is no struggle to be with them for their positive attributes..

Bruce said JW bad is ‘so much outright terrible’..
30 ints and many fumbles in one season is a likely the final nail…

  10. Check your sheet Says:

Bruce knows we can’t win with America’s turnover machine. Move the Buc on and let’s get a real quarterback in here who cares about securing the football. Enough careless aw shucks I made a boo boo again attitude. Done with the ATM. Go Bucs!

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

He’ll be back by default, then he will too many sacks due to being gun shy due to be scared of throwing picks.

  12. Miller5252 Says:

    Hey joe,

Did you ask them what kicker we’re gonna draft in the first round this year??

  13. D-Rome Says:

The only people excited for a 6th season with Jay-Miss is Unreasonable Joe and FSU honks.

  14. Gman’sBucs Says:

I don’t think December was we all weren’t hoping for!!! Even for the joes!!!

I just watched the clip of BA talking to that NFL Network dude and The Biscuit seems to be done with the Soiled Messiah.

Oh what a happy day for us CLUELESS ones.

  17. NPRSageBoy. Says:

Finally, sanity from Buc brain trust.

It sure sounds like those JayMiss Apologists among us should be concerned.

Looking like Mr. Reckless, Americas Turnover Machine, JayMiss Winnone will have a new address in 2020.

    Peace, out.

  18. Tom S. Says:

Realist is correct that the great con-man of our time Jason Licht managed to get his sorry 34-62 butt extended because he brought in a QB Guru who got Jameis to the mythical 30-30 club that no one would’ve expected this year.

Bottom line, if you take away any semblance of a running game and ask Jameis to throw early and often you’ll get a lot of turnovers. If there is a somewhat reasonable running threat and play-action fake opportunities you’ll see the best from Winston. But since our GM is a tool who’s only real skill in conning the Glazer Babies here we are.

  19. LordCornelius Says:

lol @ the idea of Licht doing the coach shopping. Glazer boys have been pulling those triggers. PRetty sure Licht isn’t even still around for the 2019 draft if we didn’t land BA.

Ownership / front office has been the biggest problem with this team for a long time. On that the sheep and weird internet persona poster can/should all agree at least.

  20. TexBuc Says:

After listening to BA’s press conference unless Tom Brady signs with us Winston will be out starting QB.

  21. Bruce Blahak Says:

Good news…sounds like real football people understand a bad QB when they see one…

  22. Atypical Informed Fan Says:

Eff Arians. Let Winston win a championship elsewhere while the Bucs start from square one.

  23. Show me the TDs Says:

    Mr. Enigma. America’s anonymous quarterback.

  24. MDFree Says:

I believe that Bruce Arians is certainly willing to move on from Winston if the right opportunity presents itself. But that most of this is purely negotiation tactics much like how he played hardball with GMC last year. This regime has options and they’re using that to their advantage.

  25. TexBuc Says:

UNLESS the Bucs are working out a contract there is NO reason to not publicly announce we are moving on.

  26. Stanglassman Says:

Lordcorn- I agree but it’s not like Jameis is coming back with a broken thumb and without his top two WRs. He’s and the WRs are also going to get the entire offseason to reviews film of themselves in this system and see where they went wrong.

I think Jameis will be back, cut the interception in half and lead the Bucs to the playoffs. I’ll also predict that the people who didn’t like Jameis before he was drafted still won’t like him.

Thanks for all the hard work Joe. Loving the updates.

  27. Eric Says:

I’m totally looking forward to Jameis coming back. And see if he can break his own bucs record for yardage and touchdown passes in a single season.

He can also become only the second QB in NFL history to throw for more than 5000 yards in more than one season.

Brees is the only player who has ever had more than one 5000k season.

    Go Jaboo.

  28. Boggy Creek Buc Says:

So Jameis has another year to prove himself. I thought we did that last year. He failed. Of course the team couldn’t overcome the extra work needed to come back from all of the interceptions and being constantly behind. Opening game should be interesting. We will know if It was a mistake.

  29. Cannuckbuc Says:

Welcome to the smokey season lol

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

Come on here guys. Jameis just might be a..Late bloomer? (LMAO)

  31. Anonymous Says:

Can anybody say shotgun wedding? Neither BA nor JW seems particularly excited about the situation but they are both pretty much stuck with each other for 2020.

It’s coming into focus. The Bucs do whatever to get JW as cheaply as possible…if that means loading a contract with large incentive bonuses for playoffs..each win over ten…I do not care about yardage, ints, or any other stats…show me the money and I’m fine with showing it in return to JW.

The Bucs resign ALL their defensive FA’s!!! There will be no money left for a stud FA OT…thankfully the draft is solid for OL this year…we select a stud RT in round one…stud RB in round two…backup QB round three (and hope he turns out like Dak Prescott..4th rounder or Russell Wilson 3rd round.

Rest of the rounds combo of BPA combined with need…safety…DL..Hopefully one area where Licht has succeeded in the draft…UDFA’s…will provide a couple of diamonds in the rough again.

  32. WestChap Says:

Sounds like we’re now getting truth from BA… unlike all the excuses midseason. He’s looking under every rock for a better alternative but fully prepared to squeeze some lemonade out of the JW lemon if he has to.

Truly amazing that a QB could stink it up enough with INTs, turnovers, pick 6s, recurring stretches of inaccuracy and head-scratching lapses in judgement to take the bloom off a 5,000+ yard, 30+ TD season. You really have to try hard to “accomplish” such a feat.

  33. bucsfaninoregon Says:

    Stanglassman Says:

I think Jameis will be back, cut the interception in half and lead the Bucs to the playoffs.

Congratulations Glassman, you are one of the first off-season hero to predict the Bucs go to the playoffs in 2020. For this, I nominate you for the first annual NOSBOS Pollyanna trophy for totally unjustified enthusiasm.

Out of the playoffs for how many years? Yet, every year we are sure to go. Let’s try for a winning record first- -ya think?

Of course a winning record, with the new playoff schedule, could be in the PO. We may get there, but not with Famous Jameis.

  34. Bucnjim Says:

It’s simple in the NFL it is literally impossible to win when losing the turnover battle. So keeping the argument in simple form either you believe Winston will stop being the leader in turnovers OR he will continue to make poor decisions with the football.

  35. ATrain Says:

    BA said:
“December Wasn’t What I Was Hoping To See”

    Jamies didn’t see it either

  36. ATrain Says:

Hey Question for the Jamies Loving Know All Fans

“Why have I heard for Years if you lose the turnover battle you lose games”
    “Turnovers are drive killers”

Who are these idiots on TV talking football who say such Junk

When we know ( Because Jamies Lovers day so) turnovers don’t matter 5000 yrds matter.

Oh By the way ALL OF THE QBs in the playoffs did not have 5000 yrds and they didn’t have 30 INT

    Interesting

  37. catcard202 Says:

Sounds like JW3’s agency isn’t looking to give a discount & want to test the market. BA & Licht need to play hardball – go on the offensive.. Need a Plan B to cover their asses.

These guys are in win-now mode…If JW3 isn’t willing to play ball & make sure the 52 other guys are getting theirs to stay…Got to find someone who is.

  38. TexBuc Says:

    Turnovers DO matter.

My opinion is that Winston has not peaked yet and I believe the coaches believe that also. If they believe Winston has peaked they will let him walk. Again if not negotiating a contract why not just announce the Bucs are moving on.

  39. Bucnjim Says:

TexBuc it’s not about peaking! The best QBs in the NFL have one (actually two) things in common and it’s not arm strength. Intelligence first and accuracy second. Do not turn the ball over and hit the open guy EVEN if he is 5 yards away.

  40. TexBuc Says:

    Bucjim
I would not argue those are important traits to have, but I would argue it is easier to calm down a gunslinger (aggressive) versus getting someone afraid (CPT Checkdown) to take the shot to take that shot.

  41. TexBuc Says:

Peaking is how good a QB can become.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

So we basically have no more answers after this quote then we had before it. I guess I’ll just be patient for a few more weeks. Soon we should start hearing reports that are much more credible then all the guessing we’ve been hearing.

Surprised nobody brought up the fact Bruce believes Winston’s short omings are correctable. That’s the biggest question he’s had to be asking himself through all this.

  43. Anonymous Says:

    Peyton Msnning first 5 years

    100 interceptions

    Jameis Winston first 5 years

    88 interceptions.

Guess you geniuses would have replaced Manning.

Anyone that thinks they are going to say anything is insane. So in other words SteveK is going to hang on every word.

  45. PriMech54 Says:

Oh, darn. The QB playing with a broken thumb and a busted meniscus with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin riding the pine didn’t play as well as expected in the last two games of the year.

    Color me shocked.

It’s like I said; it’s ALL lip service and contract leverage until Jameis signs his TEAM-FRIENDLY deal here in about a month.

  46. TPinner Says:

I hope they continue being patient to see what comes available in FA. Arians won’t be around in a few years, so not enough time to develop a rookie QB via draft. (Although it would free up a lot of $$ but our track record of QBs in draft suck…..) Defense will remain the priority of Resigning… If a Bridgewater, stafford or Carr are options hope they make a change… prob would be willing to roll the dice on Newton or Rivers on short term team friendly prove it deals…but to be candid, it’s so bucs style to allow our QB to walk to go ball out elsewhere. Although for the sake of my TV remaining on a mounted wall this season. It’s better we take our chances with a different QB.
