Tapping Brakes On Kareem Hunt

January 27th, 2020

New incident in Ohio.

Joe has been beating the drum the Bucs should go after expected free agent running back Kareem Hunt.

Yeah, Joe knows he has a shady past. But so long as he doesn’t have drug problems or addiction problems and is eligible to play in the league, then Joe thinks it is irresponsible not to bring Hunt in to fortify one of the worst running back units in the NFL.

Well, it now appears he may have a substance abuse issue.

TMZ has obtained cop video of Hunt in a bad pinch. First, the video shows Hunt blowing past a parked cop on an Ohio highway. Hunt knew he was nabbed because he pulled over to the shoulder right away, seemingly before the cop put his squad car into gear. Talk about waving the white flag!

In the police report per TMZ, Hunt had an open bottle of vodka in the car and Hunt’s car reportedly smelled like a weed nursery.

In the video, you can also hear Hunt plead with the cop to let him skate and the cop scolds him for trying to (urinate) away his NFL career.

Would Joe still like the Bucs to grab Hunt? Well, now it is buyer beware. But the good thing is, Hunt would come dirt cheap.

  1. Mitch Says:

Absolutely not. I’ve said before hard pass. He needs help and time away from football

  2. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Another talented athlete who thinks that playing football is his right. These guys don’t get the blessing that it is to be a professional athlete. To have a platform to touch millions of people and better the lives of others. But hey, F it let’s go pop bottles and bang models because society has taught me that is what’s important in life.
This kid needs a mentor in his life or a family member to help him out. Otherwise we know how this story goes. He will someday have another chance, piss that away, then 5-10 years later he pops up in the news feed because he just got arrested for petty theft after holding up the local Pigglywiggly.

  3. Joe Says:

This kid needs a mentor in his life or a family member to help him out.

He needs to get the hell out of Ohio. All his problems happen in Ohio.

  4. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Guy will never play on Sundays again…not even in a county flag football league…open bottle of vodka on a highway ( as opposed to some boondocks county road)…guy just does not get life…sad…he needs help to help himself…odds in life are not good …

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Hey, but he can run the football! Am I right?!!!
The NFL and college ranks are chock full of athletes who DON’T get in trouble. The writing’s on the wall. PASS!

  6. Craig Says:

All the free agents we need are already on the team and just need good contracts.

Drafting a RB in the 3rd round will more than suffice, if the Bucs invest in the O-line.

  7. NPRSageBoy. Says:

Bucs need to pass on this knucklehead. They already have enough players with off field issues.

What they need is a true face of the franchise with impeccable character both off field and on.

    Peace, out

  8. geno711 Says:

1st part of this report on Hunt is whether Cleveland will be cutting him. He is a restricted free agent so they can simply do a 2nd round tender for 1 year.

I think that is the most likely scenario. If looking at free agent running backs, then we should be assessing guys that are available instead of guys that are not likely available.

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

His problems are not regional and will follow him wherever he goes until he decides to grow up.

  10. Sport Says:

Joe – it’s sad that you think drug or addiction problems are greater than physical abuse of a woman.

And you lack understanding that his problems are within him, they will follow him wherever he goes, leaving Ohio won’t solve his issues.

This is your new low. Get some help, you need it.

    In BA I Trust!

  11. View from 132 Says:

Get this dude off these pages as quickly as possible.

  12. Jean Lafitte Says:

Yeah …let’s put him in the proximity of Mons Venus, or 2001 Odyssey. That would make Ohio a distant memory. PASS

He’s certainly no scholar but he’s worth millions. It’s scary to put that much wealth in the hands of a woman beating imbecile.

Like the cop said, You must be a special kind of stupid to piss your career away.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I’m a big believer in second chances……but not third & fourth…..

  14. Tackleblockwin Says:

    0% interest in him.

  15. BucEmUp Says:

Dumbass…needs better people around him in his life but probably chooses to stick with the wrong crowd. Luckily he plays for the Browns and they won’t give two craps about this. They probably not even see this video for another month. Doors are closed and nobody is home lol.

Too bad the kid is a phenomenal rb but hey if he makes it through the rest of the offseason without getting arrested sign him to a one year deal what the hell? This team isn’t any better than the browns so screw it.

  16. Brandon Says:

NFL will watch this video and immediately schedule a drug test. He might be suspended again depending on past issues.

  17. SB Says:

“Joe – it’s sad that you think drug or addiction problems are greater than physical abuse of a woman.

And you lack understanding that his problems are within him, they will follow him wherever he goes, leaving Ohio won’t solve his issues.”

    A Frickin’ Men!
Jeeesh Joe. I side with you on A Lot of issues but Jeeesh Man. Get a Grip.
This piece of trash is the LAST THING THE BUCS NEED. IDGAF if he is the second coming of Barry Sanders on the field.

  18. Swampbuc Says:

He ain’t gonna be a Buc, Joes.

Bad apples don’t belong in this Bucs regime.

  19. SB Says:

    First round talent.
    Undraftable boneheadedness.

    Remember that phrase.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Let me see if I’ve got this right. Hunt pulls over BEFORE he’s even chased, KNOWING that he’s in deep doo-doo. The cop doesn’t even have to chase him down, then gets him ON VIDEO WITH SOUND admitting that he screwed up. But then the cop says that he’ll let him off with just a speeding ticket if there’s nothing in the car (like drugs). Oh ya, like that’s gonna happen.

Subsequently the good-cop approach is followed SOMEHOW by the media getting ahold of the police video. Purely accidental I’m sure. So instead of facing JUST a speeding ticket as first offered up, Kareem now gets tried in the court of public opinion … WITH VIDEO EVIDENCE.

Yup, good luck with that sport. Pass.

  21. Mort Says:

Ok weed isn’t addictive first off. Second off, DWI isn’t the reason to avoid him. It’s the part where he beat that girl and then lied to his team about it that should invalidate his NFL career.

  22. Waterboy Says:

I’d take him for the right price no doubt what’s so ever.

  23. Joe in Michigan Says:

There will be some bargain RB’s in the 3rd or 4th Round of this year’s Draft. We’ll draft the next Kareem Hunt (3rd Rounder) like his first year in KC, without the headache he’s become.

  24. catcard202 Says:

Too bad…Was hopeful he’s be a 2nd chance guy to make it.

Plenty do, some don’t…But always tragic watching $10M talent wasted by ten cent head.

  25. gofortheface30 Says:

I am now 41yrs old, work with extremely intelligent people, and i really do have the attitude of “they just need to entertain me.” A bit of a condescending attitude to be sure but they’re millionaires and the whole point is to entertain. Where I am getting at is, when you listen to the video – Kareem Hunt sounds like a kid. A very stupid, low IQ kid. Just like a lot of 23yr olds. It is very hard, as a grown man with a responsible job to idolize stupid kids, and frankly i feel bad for grown men that wears jerseys – the name of another man on their back thats maybe 20 years younger than them. Look at half of these peoples IG pages too, these people are so dumb. I may like to watch them on sundays, but i would never want to like, hang out with them or be their friend because we’d have nothing to talk about.

  26. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Mort, DWI kills people. This should not be taken lightly!

  27. TampaTown Says:

    Stay away! Tanard Jackson II

  28. SB Says:

WOW Imagine the difference if the White Cop had decided to pursue the issue further.
Racists would be Rabid. Yet the white cop decides not to pursue it to the point that he could have and gives Hunt a break

  29. JimmyJack Says:

I would not mind to take a try on this guy but the problem is we need a #1 back and he is proven unreliable. That won’t work. Let him go somewhere and play behind a #1 back that’s a grown man.

  30. Mort Says:

Eric: it’s absolutely true and I don’t discount that – but you shouldn’t get that far in his evaluation because he should have already been DQd for an NFL gig.

  31. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Million dollar talent, fifty cent brain

  32. gotbbucs Says:

You just realized he’s a knucklehead? The hotel video just didn’t do it for you, huh?

  33. The Coroner Says:

The cop should be his mentor. Gave him some breaks other people might not give them. And now he’s crying about losing millions of dollars and a chance to play in the Super Bowl. Doesn’t seem like he learned a lesson yet.

  34. Mr. Reality Says:

To give male athletes a pass who put their hands on women against their will…is pretty low class, or who think that is not as bad as driving drunk or having an illegal substance, indicates warped mind. Enter Joe. Hunt would make Winston look good, I’d give him that. Winston would no longer be the biggest thug on the team.

  35. Bobby M. Says:

Pass….he’s like Josh Gordon, proven talent but unreliable due substance issues and general lack of impulse control.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Great instincts, Joe! lol

  37. DaBux Says:

Hard Pass please. Give me some David Johnson once AZ cuts him.

  38. gotbbucs Says:

    @DaBux

David Johnson carries $18 million in dead cap if he’s cut. Not happening.

  39. stpetebucsfan Says:

I agree with those taking a pass.

Having said that I say “walk a mile in my shoes”.

No need to call Kareem names or judge him other than he needs to get help.

I have walked a mile in his shoes and trust me this is NOT a racial problem. Kareem’s father abused his mother. My father abused my mother. Kareem is black and I am white. It’s not about black or white.

It’s about a “term” my son coined when I was trying to instill progressive values into his libertarian mind. I was preaching compassion…you know the snowflake stuff that drives TMAX wild.

My son laughing finally said…dad..dad I get it. Jess (his wife) and I won the “ovarian lottery.” We could have been born in a mud hut in Ethiopia.

Let that sink in for just a second. “The Ovarian Lottery” ALL of you COULD have been born in a slum in NE Ohio, or like me in a slum right across from Southern Ohio…or the South-side of St. Pete… or the white trash part of Pinellas Park.

I’m well aware that I probably offend some here for sounding like a know it all. Trust me! The only thing I know is that I’ve been very very lucky. Our egos hate to admit that because we can’t boast about luck. I have NOTHING to brag about. Still I guess I do boast about one thing…I’ve had the “Luck of the Irish”.

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

Aaron Hernandez said to sign him.

  41. BigHog Says:

Bring him in but his contract should be you f^*k up you out…so that would mean when you bring him in …bring in his competition at the same time, introduces them to each other and let the GRINDING begin!!!

  42. SB Says:

    OH SNAPP!!!! BigMac!

That should be the featured Comment ~~~~~~

  43. Boogie Says:

😂😂 guy gets popped for weed and it’s “ Aaron Hernandez says sign him” good grief I wonder what kinda trouble you choir boys got into when you were younger smh probably got grounded for kissing girls

  44. DoooshLaRue Says:

    T. Max

What were spewing about this yesterday?
I’m no choir boy but jeez….:::

  45. WestChap Says:

I’m trying to remember the last “character issue” that worked out for us… Sapp, at least while he was playing. Anyone else? As others noted, the real show stopper is not weed or even DWI but beating up the girl.

I just can’t understand the level of either personal grace or callous indifference that it takes to overlook domestic abuse in the name of professional sports. I wanted nothing to do with Greg Hardy… ditto for Mixon, Hunt or Tyreek (starring in the Super Bowl… I hope his son isn’t scared of him anymore). Same for Roethlisberger… who I hope I would not want as my starting QB after not 1 but 2 rape accusations… sheesh! I’m all for second chances… stocking shelves somewhere out of the public limelight.

  46. SB Says:

Boogie…………if you can’t see how entitled these KIDS think they are then realism escapes you and you are living in the same {Entitled” life they think they deserve

  47. GoldBoy Says:

I pray that the Glazers and Licht are dumb enough to both sign this idiot and resign the turnover machine. It will be endless comic fodder for years to come. Hopefully the two of them will go out on the town and cause enough chaos to get them both banned permanently from the NFL. Please do this, then sell the team. We’ve suffered long enough. #NoPlayoffs

  48. JimmyJack Says:

Goldboy Don’t you never come up in here talking about we never again!!

You out here praying we make moves you think are dumb and idiotic. You hoping the team implodes before the season ever starts.

You aren’t no fan. I Don’t even know what your doing here.

Go take your we and stuff it up your rear. Prick

  49. GoldBoy Says:

Jimmy Jack you’re an idiot. Enjoy the failure that is the Buccaneers. Jamoist will never win a thing. Moron

  50. JimmyJack Says:

Thanks bro. I will enjoy my Bucs. I will enjoy every last little minute of it. And if they sign Hunt I’ll be his biggest fan.

I’ll have my fun watching the Bucs on Sunday. You get yours begging for us to lose……Of course we turned a corner last year so all your hopes and dreams will be smashed this year.

I suggest you record the men’s diving finals during the Summer Games so you got something to do while the Bucs win this year.

  51. MadMax Says:

Geeze, and he just keeps messing up off field. Now i drink, so no judgement, and years ago i smoked a little, dont have a prob with that (but no hard stuff, big nope, ive lost family and friends to that stuff)

I dont know. Looks like a pattern. He’ll probably do something again….and we all know the best ability is availability. And if he’s hitting the bottle a lot, thats gonna mess his performance up in the end….it takes its toll.

I hope he finds a way to clean up and get back serious…but as of right now its a no for me. We have quite a crop of RB’s coming out this draft. We need a big bruiser to pair with Rojo.

  52. MadMax Says:

But i def dont get behind the wheel….im within short walks to stores and bars (forgot to mention that)….thats where hes messing up….dont drive while doing that!

  53. lambchop Says:

No way. We have to clean up the league and stop allowing these players to have so many opportunities to screw themselves, their teammates, and fans.

Secondly, if you can joke about Doug Martin’s issues, don’t be a hypocrite and even think that Kareem Hunt would come cheap.

  54. Boogie Says:

SB I smoke weed damn near every day has nothing to do with being entitled lol what are you morons going to say when it becomes legal nationwide? MLB and NBA both lessened the penalties for weed but the slave owning NFL and their die hard fans still think it’s a sin to smoke a left handed cigarette? FOH!

  55. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Mitch probably has it right! Let him clean up his act. Only then give him another chance. We Americans are fairly tolerant in general.

I know from bitter experience what alcohol can do to your life when you are young.

  56. MadMax Says:

@Boogie, slave owning? ROFLMAO, theyre all hired on contracts and Very well paid….good gosh man lol.

Hey, what about the speeding, and the bottle of vodka?

Hunt is showing a history of red signs. Maybe he needs intervention but do we really want to be his Club Med while he rehabilitates his fractured ego or finishes another lengthy suspension. I’d rather we pursued L.Bell or D.Johnson before Hunt.

    I smoke weed EVERY day.
Difference is I have a license to do so and I am a 150,000 a year Contractor.
I am not a Multi Million dollar a year Athlete who is NOT repeat NOT allowed to do so. If you think it is no big deal then keep living in your little sheltered world.
Most of us are living in the Real world, Right NOW.

  59. SB Says:

  62. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Last week when Joe posted essentially “Sign Hunt!” I said “we do not need another POS!!” and got scolded by people here with blinders on.

  63. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

But on the other hand, if he comes here America’s Grop…….errrrr Quarterback could take him under his wing.

why is kareem hunt wearing a chiefs puffer coat and driving a beater ???

  67. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I was definitely wrong about this kid. I thought that maybe he was worth taking a chance on and that he could be redeemed. Now, it just seems like he is on a path that is not getting any better at all.

  68. Bradinator Says:

huh. Told you so. Some guys never learn. 1 year suspension coming right up! What a waste.

  69. T REX Says:

Dude is toast. Let’s make this the last Hunt article. Thanks.
