Bryan Glazer: “We Want To Be The First”

January 27th, 2020

Buccaneers co-chairman/co-owner Bryan Glazer

Team Glazer is pulling no punches on goals for next season.

Bucs co-chairman/co-owner Bryan Glazer emerged from the Cone of Quarterback Silence at One Buc Palace to talk about the Super Bowl being just one year and a handful of days from returning to Tampa.

Yes, the Super Bowl moves from South Florida this week to just one mile from Bill Currie Ford on Dale Mabry Highway a year from now.

Glazer is working closely with Derrick Brooks to hype all the great things connected to a Super Bowl landing in the Bay area. A local resident, business owner and philanthropist, Glazer is acutely aware that the Bucs have the chance to be the first team to play a home game in a Super Bowl.

“No team has done it. We want to be the first,” Glazer recently told the Tampa Bay 55 podcast.

It can’t be a bad thing to have a little extra drive for success in the 2020 season, but ultimately the Bucs will need a massive miracle to represent the NFC in the title game next season. But hey, why not?

  1. Tye Says:

You WILL NOT accomplish that goal without an NFL quality QB so, chose wisely!

  2. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

It would take for Jameis to play at his best ball with consistency all season.

  3. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Maybe if We had the defense and a good Run game emerged we wouldn’t need Jameis to throw 30+ times. oh can’t forget a damn kicker

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

It’s easy to say, “yeah that is our goal” but then their actions totally say something else!!!!!!

When you give away home games to host events and make extra money, then playoffs are not the main goal!!!!!!!!!!

When you have your team on NFL’s largest commercial slash reality that is clearly a distraction then playoffs are not the main goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the “real” fans know what the “real” goal is and the empty seats in the stands reflect it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. BucAllNight Says:

    We WILL be the First!!!

  6. doctor_berto Says:

How bout you make the playoffs first

  7. Architek Says:

    With that QB???

  8. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah a guy can dream. Might as well dream big. My son an Ohio resident and big Browns fan have an agreement. If it’s the Browns versus the Bucs here in Tampa we’ll go all in and pay the scalper’s fee. At least he’ll get free food and housing while here in Tampa Bay.

I haven’t started budgeting yet. LMAO

BTW Can someone tell me what good tickets to a SB go for these days?

  9. T REX Says:

Just get back to the playoffs you dork!

    Worst owners in sports.

  10. Pewter power Says:

It’s the goal every year to be in the superbowl and makes sense to say it but not to go all in to make it so then that’s when it becomes all talk. It can be done but the proof of whether you really mean what you say will reveal itself this offseason

  11. WyomingDude Says:

If…IF…that’s truly the Glazer sentiment around town..THEN

#1 Trade for Lev Bell from HC Gase at the Jets who wants to unload his contract anyway publicly stipulated didn’t want that contract signed. (NYJ kick in $3 mill cash to make it happen). Out clause in 2 years there already. Lev Bell’s experience and running style could work with our OLine as currently constructed.

#2 Sign Brady on $28 mill per 2 year deal to work with BA, Brady wants to win SBowl so badly out from under Belichick, would be intrigued by BA, would immediately plug in to offensive weapons.

#3 Re-sign all defensive FA’s other than Dig.

#4 Spend ALL the way to the cap on a 3 year only plan, with draft picks also traded for veteran Safety AND DR.

    Done!

  12. RagingBrisket Says:

Where did the new jersey design article go?

  13. WyomingDude Says:

    Autocorrect…

    #3 *other than Suh

#4 * 2 year plan, trade draft picks for veteran Safety AND Right Tackle

All of this would easily resemble bringing Gruden in for 2002 Siperbowl run

  14. Mr. Reality Says:

StPeteBucs…depends what you mean good. I am in a business where I am sought to attend to the point it’s leave me alone, so plenty of companies calling. BUT Google it and start leaving notes now that you are interested in next year and they will likely contact you. Various tours/events companies. Usually there are packages. From hotel and pre-game party and tickets that range from 5 to 50 grand. OR may find opportunities with just tickets, still at a premium. From 2 grand to 12 grand. Of course, that is nose bleed to club at the ends of the field. Not cheap. If I lived here (and I do), I’d make reservations for a downtown or airport hotel as soon as you can (may not start for six to eight months out, but the point is get them early), for a few nights that included SB weekend. That is, you can hopefully get in before rates max out, and it will be a weeklong party. No matter the age, nothing wrong with hanging out downtown, drink or not, going from party to party and then seeing the big game. Jackpot if our Bucs are there. That said, it is sad anyone can find tix anymore…the NFL has lost its luster due to the demonstrations and obscene money with thuggery that goes with it.

  15. Anglican Says:

There you have it. They’re not signing ATM Winston. We can’t make it to the playoffs with him at QB.

  16. Anonymous Says:

Figure out how to get rid of the words Den of Depression. If you can’t do that forget the Super Bowl hype. Nobody has had a home one and you really think the Bucs would be the first?

  17. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    These guys are lame…

  18. BrianBucs Says:

Playing in the Superbowl here would be the dream of every Bucs fan.
However, they will need to find another QB to do so.
Winston just can’t lead them to the promised land

  19. JoeFromWisco Says:

Joe what’s the updates on the uniforms? I saw the post!!

  20. Waterboy Says:

Build a team where the QB is only asked to throw 8 times in a playoff game (like Jimmy G) and that might be realistic.

  21. thisisouryear!! Says:

With that statement, I think they are interested in Brady.

  22. thisisouryear!! Says:

That might be why they aren’t talking too. Maybe a big splash coming. They are trying to keep it quiet until the huge announcement.

  23. D-Rome Says:

I genuinely believe that the Bucs have a good chance to do so. I would believe it more if they mortgaged the future of the organization, like they did with Gruden, to get there and win it.

That’s why it’s critical the Bucs exhaust all options to upgrade the QB position. Jay-Miss simply is not good enough to lead a team anywhere.

  24. Jean Lafitte Says:

Maybe Joel Glazers statement has Licht and Arians rethinking their strategy on Winston’s availability. The last thing they want to do is start next season only to be out of contention by the 5th game of the season ….again. With Winston going into his 6th season there’s no real indication that miraculously he’ll pull it together. It’s not the ideal position for the regime to be in and confidence in Winston has to be wavering. Oh the pressure mounts.

  25. D-Rome Says:

It’s the goal every year to be in the superbowl and makes sense to say it but not to go all in to make it so then that’s when it becomes all talk. It can be done but the proof of whether you really mean what you say will reveal itself this offseason

Agreed. Talk it cheap at this point. The Glazers put words into action in 2002 by mortgaging the farm for Jon Gruden, and it worked. If they are serious about making a Super Bowl run they will have to mortgage the farm to get a quality QB. Jay-Miss simply won’t cut it.

  26. Robert Says:

good, the get rid of crabman

  27. WyomingDude Says:

Wow..@D-Rome…such an original thought. Wonder where that came from.

We all know where the kudos lies.

It is ok…to think for one’s self.

  29. Ndog Says:

  31. MTM Says:

I honestly think when we played the 49ers, Titans, and Texans, the Bucs were the better team. We beat ourselves those games. I think were closer then a lot of people give us credit for.

  35. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Means the Glazers will mortgage the future to win now. Not good news for Winston lovers…

  36. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Mr Reality

THX. And you have the right name. That was a real splash of REALITY.

A lot of bucks that’s for sure. I live in St. Pete with great access to 275 not far from the bridge. We won’t need rooms but that made me think of a way to defray costs.

We could try and lock up rooms early and maybe scalp them later since we don’t need them

We also have a spare bedroom suite..perhaps could rent that for some big bucks that weekend.

TRex don’t be upset cause you are one of the founding members of the CLUELESS brigrade. Hey maybe one day your opinion can be worth something and we will change the name to the Trex brigrade! GM
    HC
    QB
….and you want to keep all these variables UNCHANGED…. so NO chance.

    —————

Good one, NDog! Lol! Just because you like losing with your favorite QB doesn’t mean the team/fans should be on with it.

    Excuses, excuses.

And you call people names bc your argument lacks teeth, substance, and legitimacy. Jameis should not be resigned. Wake up and smell the turnovers.

  41. Ndog Says:

Ah the great SteveK with his same retort everytime. Let me ask you something do you just quote columnist or blogs all day or have you ever had an original thought yourself? Nevermind we all know the answer to that question as it is clear you have been brainwashed, like all the weak minded. Honestly I feel bad for the CLUELESS brigrade as it must truly suck to go through life being told what to think. I wish I could help you guys but you’re clearly to far gone. Good luck guys😁

  42. SteveK Says:

    ^Looks in mirror^

    😆 😂 🤣

  43. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

I did a search for “nfl turnover margin” and this was one of the first blurbs that popped up:

Over the past decade, the team that wins the turnover battle wins more than 75% of the time.Oct 7, 2019

Pretty telling! 35 turnovers to 34 touchdowns is a recipe for no playoffs a losing season.

  44. Dewey Selmon Says:

Chiefs lose Sunday. then return next year to lose to Tampa. Andy Reid is 0-3 in SB’s all played in Florida. NE beat Philly 15 years ago in Jax.

  45. NO FEAR... Says:

YOUR NOT GOING TO MAKE IT BY TAKING FA FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. LIKE YOU HAVE IN THE PAST. YOU NEED THE BEST OF THE HEEP PILE TO MAKE A RUN FOR THE SUPER BOWL , AND A QUARTER BACK THAT WON’T GIVE THE GAME AWAY AT THE LAST MINUTE , EASY PICK 6…..AND A KICKER THAT YOU DON’T KNOW WHO’S GOING TO SHOW UP GAME TO GAME AND A VERY GOOD DRAFT , AND GOOD COACHING !!!THEN YOU JUST MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE !!!

  46. Seminole Bill Says:

Someone needs to play the Jim Mora “playoffs” video for the Bucs front office. Going from a 7-9 season to the Super Bowl in one leap stretches credulity.

  47. Ndog Says:

There is SteveK again folks just look up what’s popular on the internet and you will see his next post. His creativity is just overwhelming. 🙄

  48. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Do you agree that Turnover margin is important? You seem to fault to recognize it in your proclamation for why we should keep the QB.

I gave you a fact, and you chose to act like a child. It’s ok, let’s see if you’re right and Jameis “gets paid”. Then we will see who is “CLUELESS” as you like to all caps mention.

    Can’t wait!

  49. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Just did some stats diving and the 2019 Buccaneers:

    28 takeaways= INTs+ Fumbles
    – 5th most/best in football

    41 giveaways
    – The worst/most in football, next team had 35
-Jameis has 35 turnovers, and that matches the entire Carolina Panther (35) giveaways.

What part of that is not awful?

  50. Ndog Says:

When you guys read SteveK’s posts do you get an overwhelming feeling of deja vu?

  51. Sleepy903 Says:

I’m glad some of you guys arent GM’s SMH.

How many Free agent QB’s go to a new team as a starter and win the super bowl, play in a super bowl or even make the playoffs.

No team is ever a QB away so please understand its a lot more issues than QB that need to be addressed.

  52. TampaTown Says:

It should have happened in 2000.

  53. Joe in Michigan Says:

I look forward to getting the QB decision behind us, so we can all get along again.

  54. D-Rome Says:

I do not know what you are talking about WyomindDude. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  55. The Coroner Says:

    StPeteBuc

“Resale ticket prices to Super Bowl LIV for the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers are averaging about $7,800,”

  56. SteveK Says:

Me too, Joe in Michigan! It will be nice once it’s settled. Until then, expect some apologists to have more insults/name calling than Jameis had INTs.

  57. Craig Says:

Delusion is a grand thing. It is inexpensive and generally does little harm.

Lots of other teams, who were much better than the Bucs, wanted to do the same thing. It didn’t happen for them either.

  58. Ndog Says:

What are you taking about SteveK if he is resigned you will be on here crying everyday like you always are. Who are you trying to kid?

  59. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Name the last Super Bowl QB who led the league in turnovers or was in the top 3!

Super Bowl is a pipe dream with a qb who gives the opponents a chance to win as much as his own team

  60. View from 132 Says:

    Clown show.

  61. Ndog Says:

Name the last team that won the Superbowl while leading the league in penalities, having the 30th ranked pass defense, having the 24th ranked rushing attack and having the 24th best kicker in the league?

  62. BucEmUp Says:

There will never be a team in the Super Bowl from that city. Too much revenue lost from all of the locals eating up tickets and leaving hotels and restraints vacant for the week leading up to the game.

Won’t happen. Maybe 2021 season if Arians is till here and Leftwich magically disappears

  63. Buc believer Says:

Why not??? I can tell you why not. Because they have one of the biggest idiots to ever run a team this side of Mark Dominek as the GM. Also they have a golf cart riding let’s call a timeout when we have none damn it I KNOW I won’t win this challenge but I’m throwing the flag anyway to prove a point head coach and an ownership group that should put as much into having a winning team as they do social causes (right Darcy?) and making money with their other businesses.
Besides that I guess why not?

  64. WyomingDude Says:

Was it Dopey, or Grumpy, or Sleepy or which dwarf again??..there in Texas?

The SimpleMathHack (SMH) was that Brady…isn’t a “free agent QB”.(merely)..not going to stoop to your moronic level of idiocy to define who Brady is and isn’t. Then there was Lev Bell in the explanation too, as was the veteran Safety AND RT acquired. ALL was there in the brilliant elaboration. Nothing further needed on offense.

Plenty of free agent QB’ s have changed teams and gone to the playoffs the next year moron..

Next time you open up your moronic piehole, make sure you thoroughly read first, second make sure your retort is more precise and offers a much better alternative (not possible here) at length than the one you’re supposedly critiquing, in your noisy response.

  65. WyomingDude Says:

All…envy those who offer voluntary, more strategic and shrewd alternatives before others do. That’s all it is, especially on this site. They resent, the introspective awareness offered to better the team.

  66. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

If that were Old Malcolm Glazer saying that I would believe he would do what ever to make that happen for Bucs fans. However, his kids have never cared about the fans. Just think back what they did to Gruden after he won the SB, they wouldn’t allow him to spend any money because they were building cash to purchase ManU, a soccer team in England. And have held thr quarter until the Eagle screamed ever since.

  67. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Anything is possible. Winston is potentially possible. A rookie is not.

So it is either Winston, or a veteran, and there are not veterans who will be available and capable.

  68. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Worst fans in the NFL are in Tampa.

We started with a winless season…home field advantage would make up for it.

  69. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Oh, and Winston will be our starter in 2020…so live with it. Whiners will complain no matter what. Just look at TMax…he got his wish and just found a new target.

  70. Kord Says:

You guys realize the 9ers are in the Super Bowl right? Any team can do it any season, playoffs for the Bucs next years is gonna happen

  71. Buccaneerscotty Says:

That will never happen with America’s can’t read a defense turnover machine fumbling fool can’t see blind beaver…. just proves what a joke Bryan is….

  72. Buccaneerscotty Says:

The fans aren’t the worst the owners are!!! Idiot

  73. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Every year the goal remains the same for every NFL team. Bring home the Lombardi!

Nothing is impossible. It has been demonstrated many times in the last 53 years. Look at who are the two finalists this year.

Any team can “come out of nowhere” in any given year.

  74. Buccaneerscotty Says:

You realize the 9ers have great owners who know football? With real football people around them?

  75. Defense Rules Says:

@WyomingDude … “It is ok…to think for one’s self.” I agree with you. You obviously gave your 12:12 proposal a lot of thought. Couple of comments though:

1 – Brady will be 43 when this season starts. He just finished the worst season of his career (among other things, his lowest QBR at 52.5 … even Jameis had a 57.1 with all his INTs). He’d be not only playing for a new coach (only his 2nd BTW), but also learning a new offensive system & new players. And oh ya, Jameis took 47 sacks last year & a bunch of QB hits. Brady took 27 sacks & a lot fewer hits I’d bet. Brady won’t get you to the Super Bowl. Good luck with that approach.

2 – Bell had his worst year ever last year, averaging 3.2 Yards/Carry. Grand total of 4 TDs last year … 3 FEWER than Peyton Barber & 2 FEWER than RoJo. Considering that he made $9 mil last year and is due to make $15.5 mil this year (and carries a $17 mil dead Cap), I’d say that the NY Jets got screwed. But you can share in their party if you insist.

3 – Not re-signing Ndamukong Suh would be a monumental mistake. He’s the engine pulling this train. But then again, after you just signed Brady and Bell, you undoubtedly couldn’t afford Suh so it’s a moot point.

Oops sorry, I had too much time on my hands and threw in a 3rd point freebie. My bad.

  76. Buccaneerscotty Says:

Winston takes so many sack because he holds on to the ball way too long!! Tom gets rid of it in about 3 seconds…

  77. Big Stinky Says:

What’s he SMOKING anyway. Better figure out another plan then. Bring in 2 QB’S to COMPETE cause your GM sure won’t. BTW, better MAKE Gump keep JPP, Shaq, and Suh or your DEFENSE will be like it was while Koetter was here. Remember last year without Shaq and Suh? Until there is true QB competition though like in 2013 NOTHING matters. What was his name again? DUMBASS is a good monicker for him for EVER saying that with a STRAIGHT face KNOWING the TRUTH. So, let me get this straight. You fire a REAL COACH to bring in a STALE BISCUIT to save your FAVORITE quarterback, “SHAMELESS”, because he SUCKS and you are AFRAID he will FAIL again. What is this now, his 3rd PROVE it year? You couldn’t make this CRAP up, even if you TRIED. Farewell my beloved Buccaneers. You TRULY have sucked as owners since you let Chucky run off your GM. That’s a BIG reason only ONE Lombardi too. I want to be a Niners or Chief’s fan now because you can’t win WITHOUT a good GM either.

  78. Big Stinky Says:

    Defense Rules

Totally agree, but the BIG 3 have to STAY together until you have DEPTH on defense AGAIN. Like when McKay was our GM. Man, I sure MISS him the MOST of anyone in that front office. Constantly MISSING all the time since Chucky cursed us AGAIN. Damn you Chucky! I fear the WORSE scenario has happened. Goodbye My Beloved Suckaneers. Who’s my TEAM next? The Niners or the Chiefs. Should I go with my main man #47 or Patrick effing Mahommes as my QB of the future? Wow, that is TRULY the biggest decision as a Die Hard Buccaneer fan. I do KNOW full well that defense wins Championships, because ALL 3 times we got close we had one. How good is Kansas City on defense if I might ask?

  79. GoldBoy Says:

Just wait, this idoit and his brother are going to lock up the turnover machine long term. It will be the death nail for the franchise. They resigned the worst GM in sports. And they’ve single handedly made the Manchester United a laughing stock, not to mention our Bucs. Selling the team is the only way we have a chance to win again. Please go away Glazer boys. Your daddy was a far better man than you two clowns. #NoPlayoffs

  80. Dapostman Says:

    @Stinky,

Are you talking about Koetter being a real coach? BWAAAAAAAAAAAA

  81. donuts Says:

Bryan is all talk and doesnt walk the walk like Malcolm did. This is the problem with biz people who didnt earn it in real life and have everything handed to them. This article makes me laugh but not as hard as the other NFL owners who laugh at the Glazer boys who have made this team irrelevant over the past decade. The thought that he thinks you can turn around a sub-500 NFL team without a top 5 pick in one year makes me giggle. He really has no clue how to build an NFL franchise. Leadership starts at the top and we have weak leaders.

  82. Defense Rules Says:

Big Stinky … “Who’s my TEAM next? The Niners or the Chiefs.” OK, snap out of it. You’re just having a bad dream. You’re a Buc fan through & through. Remember, the 49ers were 4-12 last year but they’ve shined this year largely thanks to their huge improvement on DEFENSE (they went from giving up 435 points in 2018 to allowing only 310 points this year). Bucs can do that too IF we make the right moves in FA & the draft.

  83. Bucsfan951 Says:

NPUPPY!!! Are you ready to play my game yet? You asked someone else a question do I want to ask you mine. I asked you a few nights ago to pick out winstons stat and your refused to. Why did you refuse to? Come on, my dude, let’s see which stat is winstons.

  84. OTSJ Says:

IF YOU OWNED A BIZ THAT INCREASES IN VALUE 100MIL WIN LOSE OR DRAW AND WILL KEEP YOUR GRANDCHILDRENS GRANDCHILDREN IN LUXURY, ALL IN A PUBLICLY FUNDED FACILITY…WOULD YOU SELL ??? IF everything they do is wrong…then they drafted and wasted 5 years and tens of mil on a QB THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE ALREADY IN CANTON..Follow that World League of Extraordinary football team that’s hitting town as soon as the tractor pull or school bus derby clears outta Ray Jay…Get a RB ,a QB who DOESN’T hit wide open Middle linebackers week in and out ,a few more defenders in the secondary ,bolster O-line and roll the freakin bones…SF sucked last year and there probably gonna win it all…Somewhere the author of Blaine on Gabbert 101 is crying FOUL!!!

  85. Defense Rules Says:

@BigStinky … “How good is Kansas City on defense if I might ask?” I didn’t realize it until this morning, but the Chief’s defense is VERY good, but they do have an Achilles Heel … their run defense. Could be wrong, but I think the Super Bowl will come down to DEFENSE, even though it might very well be a high-scoring game.

Can the 49ers DEFENSE stop the Chief’s passing attack versus can the Chief’s DEFENSE stop the 49ers ground attack?

  86. WyomingDude Says:

I believe it was Raheem Morris that oddly enough so eloquently stated “stats are for losers”.

The fools can’t even get the context right, or the forest through the trees. Pointless endeavor.

  87. Mark Alsott Says:

Would be great to make it, but they way they play at home they’d lose anyway
