With The 16th Pick Of The 2020 NFL Draft …

December 9th, 2019

The 7th draft of GM Jason Licht’s tenure awaits

Winning has its price.

The Bucs’ free fall in the 2020 NFL Draft order continued yesterday. If the season ended today, the Bucs would draft 16th overall, per the new Sporting News tracking chart below.

And an Eagles win tonight against the Giants would not change anything per Joe’s quick math.

The reason the list stops at No. 20 is because playoff all other teams would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. And playoff teams’ draft order is finalized after the postseason. So the worst the Bucs will pick is 20th.

One thing certain is one hell of a passionate building up to the pick at Joe’s annual draft party is forthcoming. This year’s event will be announced in January and it will be at a new venue — and more special than ever.

  1. Capt. Tim Says:

    We arent winning.
Winning is what playoff teams do.
We are just beating up our fellow losers.

And while thats fun to watch, remember-
We are dropping not just our first round pick, but subsequent rounds also.
Where you draft in 2nd and 3rd round is kinda important also.

    But, might as well celebrate.
    What else do we have?

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I would like to see us take the best O Lineman we can get, when we pick.

  3. snookman Says:

You never play for the draft when you are in Tampa’s position.

Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Aaron Rogers, Chris Godwin, Oj Howard, ETC…were all available in this exact same draft position within their respective draft years.

  4. D-Rome Says:

    Agreed Capt. Tim.

Backstabbin’ Jason Licht is the worst Bucs GM over the past 25 years and not only because of draft picks.

  5. Chimichanga Says:

Lol at “Bucs” fans complaining about losing to bad teams while the Cowboys havent won against a team with a winning record while we had 3. Enjoy a victory Monday would you ass clowns.

  6. Easy Says:

It saddens me to say this but if Grant Delpit is still on the board we have to draft him… If not we need to address the OT position.

  7. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

    @Capt. Tim

    BAM BAM exacly correct!!!!!

Could you all imagine if we had a Mahomes or a Russell at QB damn we be ready for the playoffs. No its not all JWs fault but he aint helping the cause.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There are a whole lot of teams in front of us that might be needing QBs….

Bengals, Redskins, Dolphins, Jaguars, Chargers, Broncos, Panthers, Colts to name a few.

  9. TOM Says:

Have no fear loser Licht will screw up the draft like he always does.

  10. voiceofreason Says:

let the fall continue and let joe continue to find the negative in a win!

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah……good

Keep on winning for nothing and keep on screwing yourself

  12. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    OL…….

  13. ocala Says:

The Bucs need to win. Arians is changing the loosing culture that Koetter and Smith had instilled in this organization.
I thought the Bucs would be an 8-8 team this year and that looks like it may happen. The Bucs defense is becoming much better than what it was just 4 weeks ago. If that continues into next year along with the Bucs drafting heavily at offensive line then I think the Bucs should be a playoff team next year.

The Bucs need to win. Arians is changing the loosing culture that Koetter and Smith had instilled in this organization.

losing culture has been alive and well in tampa long before koetter and smith pal…. outside of the 1 year wonders fluke championship all tampa does is lose….. bucs franchise has 6 playoff wins in 6 years brady has 6 rings and 30 playoff wins in less than half that time….. bucs losing culture is deeper than bad character lovie and koetter….

  15. 813bucboi Says:

i’ll take the W’s all day and twice on sunday!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. Troy Says:

I’m trying to figure out the complaints about winning here. Other teams consistently pick in the lower half of the draft rounds and keep right on winning. I’d like to establish a winning culture again. Contrary to what all you posters think, there are still really good players in the draft after the first 10.

  17. Sharthappens Says:

Tua may just fall into our lap

  18. K1ngadroc Says:

Ya play your best football for 16 games (or hopefully more) and pick where you finish! Damn bucs fans, get out of the losing mentality! Winning on Sunday is difficult every week, just ask Texans, Patriots etc.. We need Ws and we need them NOW. Stop this stupid draft pick talk and play football

  19. “That guy” Says:

Just a after thought, 1 field goal, and any of the 4 games that the referees clearly f$@&!d us on, and this TB team is in the wildcard hunt.

Example, the double timeout in yesterdays game on 4th and one is a penalty.

The referees “optionally” did not call it regardless of it giving Indianapolis a unfair advantage on the play. We watch these referees f@&k us every game that we play a big market team.

Point being, this team is coming together, winning regardless of terrible referee calls(and no calls), their is clearly progressions and I would give another year to everyone on the roster.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I prefer to win. Period.

Every year, you guys want to tank for draft picks. All that has resulted in is making us watch unwatchable football.

I could care less about the three day draft at this point. We have three WEEKS left in the season, and I don’t want to watch losing football.

    Win, baby, win.

And, BTW, Capt. Tim, did you want to tank during Tony Dungy’s first season as well?

And who did we draft the following year? Warrick Dunn. Ronde Barber. And we made the playoffs.

Would that have happened if they would have tanked? I think not. Because you cannot claim to want to change the culture only to embrace losing.

The fans need to accept that.

  21. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The only way to change this losing culture here in Tampa is to get new Owners.

The Glazer boys don’t truly care about winning. They’re content to reap their millions of dollars of profit yearly while paying the absolute minimum for anything in the Franchise.

You don’t go a decade after Malcom Glazer died and lose every year without caring to lose every year.

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

WHO you draft is more important than where you draft.
I’ll take winning football, 9-7, and 20th overall. Please and thank you!

  23. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

I’d prefer to win in the months of September to December over “winning” a draft pick who has a 50/50 chance of being a bust. Besides it’s Licht drafting so who thinks he will pick the right guy?

  24. Sleepy903 Says:

Kinlaw – DT or Wills – OT in the 1st round and the opposite side of the line in the second round Wilson – DT or Little – OT and the best RB available in the 3rd I doubt Chuba will be there but Zack Moss would be a pretty good fit. 3 down back pretty good at pass protection and catch out of the backfield. Easy replacement for Barber and keep Dare off the field.

  25. Dapostman Says:

The Glazer boys don’t truly care about winning. They’re content to reap their millions of dollars of profit yearly while paying the absolute minimum for anything in the Franchise.

    *****************************

Then why are there 29 coaches on this staff?

    Another Fake News statement.

  26. Eric Says:

Licht has assembled one of the best offenses in the league.

Now the young defense is starting to gel.

    Good things are happening.

  27. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I hope we pick 20th and have a 9-7 record at the end of the season. This team is learning how to win and that is much more important than moving down up a couple of spots in the draft order. There should be a couple of good offensive tackles available when we pick. They need to focus on the trenches on both sides of the ball and maybe draft a RB in rounds in one of the mid rounds if a good one falls in our lap. My best case scenario would be a stud right O-tackle, D-tackle, offensive guards for depth, and diamond in the rough RB. I am hoping we can find a CB in free agency and not spend any more draft capital on the same position group for three consecutive years.

  28. Cgmaster27 Says:

@anthem yeah keep on winning and screwing ourselves. Why, so you can complain about us losing? Youre going to bitch no matter what, we’ve established that by now.

  29. pelbuc Says:

Draft order is meaningless when incompetent Licht is choosing the groceries. This team, thanks to Licht will continue to have numerous holes on the roster, no depth and as usual will overpay to compensate for Licht’s mistakes. Oline and Dlone will need to be emphasized. Wins in December when the team is out of it does not justify keeping Licht.

  30. Brandon Says:

The people that complain about us winning are the same ones that complain about us losing. This team needs to learn how to win, not reinforce how to lose. Losers play for the draft. Winners play to get better and win no matter who’s in front of you or what the stakes are.

  31. orlbucfan Says:

A true fan, not a bloviating phony, wants the team to win. 9-7, Bucs!! And let the draft card fall where it may.

  32. Costa Rica John Says:

All I want for Christmas is 3 more wins. I want to see these players continue to come together as a team and learn how to win together. There are good players throughout the draft. It’s proven year after year. Get the right guys to make our team better and keep winning.

  33. Matthew Fifer Says:

    @Sharthappens

I assume you are kidding/joking? Tua is extremely fragile. Remember, his hip injury is what ended Bo Jackson’s career, and Bo is bigger and several times the natural athlete as Tua.

He could not survive in a team with a ho-hum o-line. Say what you will about Jameis one way or the other, but he is tough, I won’t ever take that from him. He is a big guy that can take a beating and get up. If Tua goes to a team without a top 5 o-line, his career will be extremely short.

  34. TexBuc Says:

I love it and I have enjoyed our 3 game winning streak. I hope we win out to end the season and worry about the draft in the offseason.

  35. ocala Says:

Thank you to those above that are calling out those that complain no matter if the Bucs win or loose.

The Bucs could easily be in a position to make the playoffs this year, but realistically teams need more than one year before taking a giant leap with a new coach and the Bucs were severely penalized by those making the NFL schedules.

The Bucs have a substandard offensive line and not much of a running game, but the rest of the facets of the game are all improving . Signs are all pointing up for the Bucs.

  36. firethecannons Says:

I am glad to see us win games, I really don’t care where we pick–if it aint in the top 5 it don’t matter that much to me. Nice to see the Bucs win–like to see us get the next game too! Better win record also makes it more likely we convince free agents to sign here also.

  37. LordCornelius Says:

Honestly I am not seeing huge value in drafting top 8-14 vs 15-20 this year.

    Joe Burrow QB
    Chase Young DE
    Andrew Thomas OT

Are the elite players of the draft from what I’ve seen and wouldn’t have been available to us even if we tanked based on how many bad teams there are.

    OT’s like Wirfs / Leatherwood
OG or C’s like Tyler Biadasz / Creed Humphrey
DT’s like Derrick Brown / Javon Kinlaw
Edge rushers like AJ Espenenza / Yetur Gross-Matos

I’d think a few of those guys will be avialable to us with other teams picking QB / WR / TE / CB / S.

  38. Joe in Michigan Says:

As Herm Edwards said, you play to win the games. Especially this team, at this time. We didn’t make the playoffs, but winning games is still preparing us for the future.

  39. Capt. Tim Says:

    I never said to tank.
I just pointed out the facts. Other than Indy, we are playing teams that are tanking.
Doubt Detroit is dying for a win.

Wining is always best, for a team of perennial losers.
But beating up on teams in the tank, shouldnt confuse anybody about the Stats we throw up.

But I do agree with Eric.
Better days are ahead. Once all of our rookie DBs get it together- we will be dangerous!

  40. Bucsdelight Says:

I’m curious why some of you hate winning now? When has picking in the top 7 ever helped us? Come on. Why not try picking later and see what happens.

  41. christina olive Says:

Yea drafting top 7 has really worked out well for us lol I like that the team is coming together and playing hard and Winston has played with a so so line all season we need to really get him some protection and help our run game out in the process. I can’t wait to see these guys next season 😊 just keep WINNING! Go Bucs! 🔥🔥🔥

    As Herm Edwards

herm like the rest of the failed coaching shrub from dungy the clown knows absolutely nothing about winning. he failed twice as a head coach… another bum but at least he did not rock the 0-16 like that horribly overrated coach rod “Sapp carried me too” Marineli

  43. lowercaseg Says:

OL then DL in the 2nd

  44. Mike Johnson Says:

Although at times I wish we would lose to get a higher pick, I know what Arians is trying to instill in the franchise. YEs, we are beating up on other losing teams. But they are in the NFl right? Just like us. My guess is if Jameis keeps playing we might finish 8-8. If not 7-9. One things for sure though, we need to see our Backup play a couple of complete qtrs. He might get that chance against the Lions.

  45. unbelievable Says:

It’s not WHERE you pick, it’s WHO you pick.

What has this team done with all those high draft picks over the years?

Playing for a better draft position, AKA losing, is for LOSERS! You don’t change a pathetic culture by purposely being pathetic.

    SMDH

  46. BucsNY96 Says:

It so funny how ppl thing a draft position gets you a great player. B/c Gaines Adams (RIP), Mark Barron, Vernon Hargreaves were ALLLLLLLLLLLLL great players 🙄🙄🙄

You do good enough scouting you’ll find players everywhere in the draft!
