JP: Say Goodbye To Jameis

December 29th, 2019

Done with America.

Perhaps his biggest defender is now lost.

A czar of Tampa Bay sports, J.P. Peterson, a longtime TV and radio sports voice of Tampa Bay, had long been one of the biggest defenders of Mr. Excitement, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

No more.

Peterson took to Twitter after Jameis ended the 2019 season with his signature pass play — a pick six — and Peterson had seen enough.

Peterson wishes Jameis well. But for the soon-to-be free agent, Peterson wishes Jameis well — for some other team.

You can read Peterson’s farewell to Jameis below.

first pass as a buc and last pass as a buc pick 6…crazy… if bucs just get a dude who throws for 24 tds and 8 picks bucs are in hunt. Jason Licht cant draft anymore for the bucs

  2. MadMax Says:

    Welcome to Tampa Jordan Love!!!!!!!!!

  3. BrianBucs Says:

When FSU loyalists like Peterson and Cummings start to jump ship, you know it’s bad.
Sooner or later they had to face the truth.

Now we will start to see what playoff QB’s look like….I don’t count Wild Card…once the real playoffs begin trenches will shine…running game when needed will shine and QB play will shine…the best Bang for the Cap $$$ in the NFL is a 1st round QB

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

    Welcome to Tampa Jacob Eason!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Waco Says:

    Teddy Bridgewater or Dereck Carr…..

  7. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Torn about Jameis. The first pick was the receiver’s fault. Terrible read. Ran a fly and Jameis threw a post. Miscommunication. We were missing three of our four WR’s and it showed what a huge difference that makes for the second straight week. The fact is that once again our FG kicker lost the game…again. We should not have been in OT. He cost us a 9-7 season. Period. Nevertheless, you cannot throw a pick six in an OT game against a crap team, which the Falcons are.

Alas, Jameis has had five years to grow out of the TO’s and he has regressed. If the Bucs are going to spend $30+ million on a QB then it might as well be Teddy Bridgewater as he is the only FA QB worth taking a chance on. Time to ay goodbye to Jameis. We have a top ten D now, two Pro Bowl WR’s, two quality TE’s, a top notch #3 in Perriman, and tons of cap space. I’d draft Etienne with the first pick and OL with the second, and move on. We cannot waste next season.

  8. HeavyE Says:

Welcome back Jameis Winston, with a fat new contract!!! HATERS!!!!! LMAO……

  9. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    Derek Carr

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

We all know what opinions are like along with elbows.

  11. Kgh4life Says:

Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr are not the answer. For them to be successful, the entire team has to be great: Great oline, running back, defense and special teams.

  12. Bucfan300 Says:

Next year, 70% of you will be happy with someone else at quarterback. I for one feel that we are letting someone with tremendous upside walk away. I understand he has made huge mistakes with his turnovers but whether you want to admit it or not, he has unequivocally been the best QB in this franchises history. I can’t wait to see him win, unfortunately it will be elsewhere.

  13. geno711 Says:

Always been a David Carr fan as well. Just curious whether he will 1. Be available and 2. If BA is a fan.

  14. BrianBucs Says:

    #JameisBeingJameis

  15. Smashsquatch Says:

First pass as a Buc = pick 6
Last pass as a Buc = pick 6
    Sameis Jameis….

  16. Hodad Says:

Watson made the right play, Jameis made the wrong read. It wasn’t Watson’s fault. Watch the play, it’s a two way option. Watson cuts inside he’s running into triple coverage. He did the right thing going straight up the field for what would be an easy TD if Jameis reads it right, but he threw into the three defenders instead. Jameis sucks. He can’t read defenses, stares down receivers, see his last pick six, and simply chokes in big moments. Cut bait, Gabbert would do better.

  17. Buccernutter Says:

He’ll be back next season. You guys are wasting your breaths.

It’s probably the tag but I’m gonna be annoyed if he is upset with it.

  18. tgregs Says:

He’ll be back because it;s an idiotic move and thst’s what this ownership does (see firing Schiano and hiring Lovie)

  19. SilverBuc Says:

Yes, Jameis will go to Carolina or New Orleans to shred this pathetic fan base and hate driven media for years to come. Break free Jameis, get out while you can

  20. Bucfan81 Says:

Screw Winston tag Shaq make him prove he can get double digit sacks again. Start Gabbert and draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round let them compete to see who is the starting QB. Build the defense and o line…bye bye Jameis seen enough.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Cut the BS out Buc fans. You/me and everybody else knows, Our Bucs are bringing back The turnover King next season. Arians believes he can change him. After all this time? We know he cannot. Jameis will lose more games than win at this level. Just pray we keep our defense together and make a couple of improvements there. And those 3 missed FG’s guys? That’s what truly lost this one for us. We needed Jameis to quit while he was ahead. And that OT would not allow him to do that. We knew what was coming. And it happened. We started the season with a loss and ended on one. Lets all have a drink, or another one to a better season in 2020.

  22. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Not much has changed with Jameis and that’s the biggest problem dumbest qb in the league in 2015 and in 2019

  23. Bill1949 Says:

What if, we sign Jamies the trade for the first pick in the draft. They’d need to put a cherry on it…maybe Mika Evans. Evans and Winston To Cinncinatti for the first pick in the draft. Cincy would have to give that offer some thought.

  24. VegasBuc Says:

Jameis’ll be back in 2020. Decision was already been made before this game. Those who know, know.

  25. stpetebucsfan Says:

Is JW worth what he’s reported to be asking.

Is he irreplaceable on the field or simply difficult to replace.
Is it perhaps worth it to sign all the other guys we have…Suh..Shaq…Nassib…all of our defensive guys…and yes Perriman has earned a new contract as well. If all these signings mean we can’t afford JW then perhaps it’s time to look for a far more affordable guy….retread or rookie or both. One or two more good OL and any QB would salivate at targets like ME..Godwin..and now Perriman..and Scotty was starting to flash.

Then there is the second part. The fans. They will now FREAK in SUBSTANTIAL numbers if the Bucs resign JW.

Call them haters…losers…I don’t care what you call them but did you people talk to family and friends at Christmas. I didn’t run into a single NDOG…they were all “haters”. That was BEFORE today’s game ending pick six!

Substantial numbers of fans think of JW as PICK Six or ATM…not just the “haters”. You can think they are stupid football fans but it is what it is. JW is a PR disaster at this point. His talent may not be enough to make the difference.

I would love to see a truly unbiased poll or research done on JW’s popularity in Tampa. I suspect the Glazers have seen more than one if they’re smart businessmen.

  26. Bobby Says:

For someone with such a high football IQ he seems to make really dumb decisions. I think as good as our defense is we can win with a Brad Johnson type QB. I hate to see Winston go because if he is able to cure his ills he will be a tremendous QB but it’s been 5 years and no turnaround yet. If we can find the right replacement I say we move on.

  27. IrishTony Says:

The defense played exceptionally well and would have won this game with a relaoconsistent QB

  28. Lunchbox Says:

For Jameis, the part of his brain that makes him make the wrong reads and throw up the occasional dying quail into triple coverage, is the same part that made him think that the groping “hassle”, the free crab legs, the standing up on the table and scream FHRITP were all good ideas. It’s his judgement. It’s always been there, and it’s not going to change. Thus Jameis isn’t going to change.

  29. Greg Says:

JW has an undeniable history of doing his homework off the field. However this consistently does not translate into crunch time production. Five years is enough body of work to show his true stripes! Five thousand yards for what?

  30. Buczilla Says:

Jameis will be back. Does he deserve to come back? Hell no, but he does enough incredible things with the ball that you just have to give him one more chance to prove that he belongs with the big boys. He will most likely fail again next year, but do you want to be the GM that lets a QB with hall of fame talent go? I sure as heck wouldn’t want to be, just in the extremely unlikely case that Jameis figures it out.

  31. T REX Says:

You cant ask the fans to watch that garbage again.

  32. Frankinthe813 Says:

Mad Max great call on Jordan Love…big time sleeper

  33. lowercaseg Says:

    Lol, EAT A L

  34. AMI_Chris Says:

Can’t have another season like this. I can’t watch this trash any more.

  35. Mord Says:

Such a catastrophe of timing to be facing Winston’s contract after *this* year’s body of work. If only he could have had this season and these coaches two seasons ago, it would make more sense to give him time to reduce his errors and improve his decisions. For the money a franchise tag will bring, they’d better think there’s a sh*t-ton of baby in that bathwater.

Elite passing skills and the records to show for it? Yeah

Mind blowing consistency in turning the ball over? Yeah.. and FFS, already.

I don’t envy Arians’ quandary here

  36. Rob C Says:

If you were a betting man, would you bet your life on Jameis? This is what I would ask Jason Licht. Do you believe Jameis can hoist the Lombardi in two seasons? How bad does Winston want it? He knows we can’t be competitive paying him top $ when he has not shown he is truly deserving. PlayerS won’t discount themselves to come to Tampa to play with him. Will he take a fair incentive laden contract? If you are wrong this team will fall apart and have to rebuild from scratch. We got some players we can truly build around. A decent QB would look better with the weapons we have. A better overall team or a overpaid gamble? I am ready to move on from Jameis. Bridge water or Tannehill, and draft a QB.

  37. MadMax Says:

@Frank, thank you. Ive nailed our last two years first rounders with some very good research and predictability. Love has that arm to get it deep which is what our offensive scheme is built on. Kid has a lot of potential but needs some foot coaching….has the arm and can run though. He wont be a sleeper much longer, especially after the combine.

  38. MadMax Says:

Thanks Frank, i wasted a long post that went into mod and not approved…even though it was clean and non insulting….hope this one gets through….Love wont be under the radar too much longer.

  39. MadMax Says:

@Frank, I picked and predicted our last two 1st rounders, so hopefully i hit on this one too.

  40. July Joe Says:

Another media IDIOT … #1 in yards, #2 in TDs, #3 scoring offense (with no run game) … just 26 years old next season.

    Favre had a 20 TD, 29 INT season …

    IDIOTS.

JW will be fine and get PAID … either in Tampa or elsewhere.

  41. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

  42. Rod Munch Says:

    Who is this nerd?

  43. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

He is going to be back whether you like it or not.
    Enjoy the ride.

  44. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

HEY JP…..Remember when you called me a racist (or a Gator) live on the air on WDAE last year because I said the Bucs should dump Winston??? GFY !!!

  45. TOM Says:

How about trading Winston for Carr? Or Winston for ?.
