Gameday Tampa Bay

December 1st, 2019

Game 12

Bucs  (4-7) at Jaguars (4-7)

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

TV: WTVT-TV Channel 13, NFL Sunday Ticket Channel 710.

Streaming: Fans may stream the broadcast. Options include Buccaneers.com, FOX Sports Go app or Yahoo! Sports app. Geographic restrictions apply.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region; 97.9 FM ESPN Radio in Tallahassee (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa); SiriusXM Channel 121.

Weather: Per the good people of AccuWeather.com, expect a variety of weather today at the Gator Bowl. Tailgaters will party under cloudy skies with temperatures in the high 70s. At kickoff, look for a temperature of 81, which will drop slightly by halftime and rain may appear in the second half. The game should end under mostly cloudy skies with a temperature of 77.

Odds: Per the Mirage in Las Vegas, Bucs  -2.5; O/U 42.5.

Outlook: This game seems as if it is ripe for the Bucs to stack a pair of wins together. But Joe remembers the words of the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, who earlier this year said the Bucs “don’t handle prosperity well.” Russo is right. Just when you think this team has turned the corner after a solid win, the Bucs promptly fall flat on their faces. So today is a chance to snap that hex and follow up last week’s strong win with another. Just run the ball, dang it. The Jags stink out loud at stopping the run. This isn’t rocket science. That is, unless the Bucs coaching staff believes deep down inside that the Bucs running game is pretty mediocre at best.

Lot of things wrong here Joe.

Bucs are playing the *Jags, and we’re both *4-7 not 3-7.

This second half of the season is where we see what we’ve really got for a team. So far we’re 2-1, beating the 2 teams we SHOULD have beaten (Cards & Falcons) & losing to the team that’s better than us right now (Saints). Bucs are a better team than the 5 remaining opponents (Jaguars, Colts, Lions, Texans, Falcons). Now we need to PROVE IT on the football field. That starts today at the Jags. NO MORE EXCUSES. WIN OUT.

  9. Jameis Almighty! Says:

If the Jags win it’s a smart move to play for the draft… Bucs win, blame Jameis

  10. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Looking at the point spread it looks like Vegas has adjusted the line because of Gay kicking. It should be at least -3.5 or 4. I’ll take a double bet. Bucs to win but not cover the 2.5 because Gay can’t kick it straight…

  13. MadMax Says:

LOL! too many brews Joes? haha….all good, we know whose playing.

Just curious how much our playing hard to win right now is going to look against teams that are probably trying to lose for better draft position….i dont know, just something to think about.

    One scotch too many

  15. MadMax Says:

Other than the Colts, i think we win the rest….picking around 20. Unless Derrick Brown or Simmons falls that far (they wont) i guess we’re going QB (Hurts), a RT (Becton), or maybe RB Dobbins or Moss in the 2nd.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … The big hit on Jameis seems to be that he has too many turnovers. And in all fairness, even most Jameis supporters would agree that 100 in almost 5 years is a tad excessive. But I don’t think it’s turnovers that kill you; it’s TURNOVER DIFFERENTIAL that makes the real difference.

If you look at Jameis’ 5 years here (2015-2019), Bucs have now played (Jameis started most, but not all). During those 75 games, Bucs have 141 giveaways as opposed to 109 takeaways. The ONLY year when we had a positive turnover differential was 2016 … which happens to also have been our ONLY winning year (9-7). During those 75 games:

o Bucs have has a PLUS 2 (or more) TO Differential in 14 games … record: 13-1.
o Bucs have had a PLUS 1 TO Differential in 14 games … record: 7-7.
    o Bucs have a Zero TO Differential in 11 games … we’re 3-8.
    o Bucs have a MINUS 1 TO Differential in 10 games … we’re 4-6.
    o Bucs have a MINUS 2 (or more) TO Differential in 26 games … we’re 2-24.

It’s readily apparent to me that a PLUS 2 differential is a good thing … we’re 13-1 these past 5 years when we hit that goal. However, it’s also readily apparent that a MINUS 2 differential is a VERY bad thing … we’re 2-24 when we hit that goal.

So the solution to our woes is obvious: since our offense loves to give more than receive (when it comes to turnovers at least), our defense needs to take the ball away more. Hmmm, maybe Lovie Smith knew something that the rest of us didn’t when he kept stressing takeaways to the defense.

  20. Hodad Says:

Joe is just trying to re live the moment of one of our greatest victories this season.

This is Joe’s version of Jason Lite jumping into his swimming pool after a victory…maybe a tradition in the making

This is one of the most winnable games left on our schedule. Come on Bucs, you guys say you are sick and tired of losing. Give us weary fans a win for the holidays. Defense gotta play lights out though like the last game.

Gator Bowl? It hasn’t been called that is over 20 years. lol. Can we call RayJay Tampa Stadium? Or maybe the Bucs home field is the Outback Bowl Stadium.

  26. Barbosa Says:

    Excellent picture Joe

  27. PragueBucsFan Says:

I want to see the team pick up exactly where it left off in Atlanta. That was a Dominant performance. 1 effective run game. 2 smothering defense. 3 Efficient passing = Bucs win. Go get it.

  28. orlbucfan Says:

Doing my SOP listening to Bucs Radio. This time I’m turning on the tube–POX Sports–volume off. This Defense is starting to jell. Man, I hope I’m right. The pattern sure resembles what Coach Dungy did, only a different variation. We do need to draft a DLineman tho. GO BUCS!!

  29. BucsFan4Life Says:

Go Bucs!!! Let’s have a big day for all involved, O/D/ST – I love celebrating a Bucs win. Never negative, never a hater!! Let’s declaw the Jags!!!
