Bucs Stopped Beating Bucs

December 10th, 2019

Simple solution to win.

Not long after he was hired, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians fingered a key reason the Bucs lost 22 games in the two previous seasons prior to him boarding the pirate ship.

“Bucs beating Bucs,” Arians said.

Sunday, in the fourth quarter of the Bucs’ win over the Colts, that stopped.

Who says? Ali Marpet, that’s who.

The Bucs guard — who Joe was surprised to learn got vocal with his teammates at halftime along with Lavonte David — said the recipe for the win Sunday was simple.

“We just had to be confident in ourselves and stop beating ourselves,” Marpet said. “There was no doubt of our offense [being able to score late]. From our end, we knew we could score points. We just had to stop beating ourselves.”

Marpet was quick to point out the Bucs’ defense did its part in holding the Colts. Otherwise, the game would have gotten out of hand.

“Our defense did a phenomenal job,” Marpet said.

With Mike Evans allegedly out — nothing yet from the Bucs confirming the report that Evans is done for 2019 — this will be a test this week at Detroit to see how far the Bucs have come without one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

Wasn’t the bucs the team that had 4 turnovers? That is beating yourself

  2. 813bucboi Says:

dotson still doing everything in his power to beat the bucs….lol….

JPPs leadership and personality is taking over this team…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

Dusthty- Winning shouldn’t be that hard! Take away the turnovers and the Bucs have an EASY day against the Colts.

  4. SickofLosing Says:

If Godwin balls out and the offense keeps humming I could see the Bucs trading Evans

  5. doctor_berto Says:

They sure tried their hardest this week

  6. Robert Says:

JPP and Shaq are the difference. don’t even have to watch the games to know that. the rest is fodder. Add vea to that list and their ability to compensate for multiple turnovers in a game…..EVERY game.

  7. LordCornelius Says:

Lions are pretty beat up and horrible team right now compared to a Colts team that was playing for the playoffs.

our defense should dominate if they truly turned a corner

  8. tmaxcon Says:

all beating yourself posts need a jerk chicken picture joe…. maybe mix it up with various recipes

  9. CPN Says:

Winston will keep beating the Bucs.

A team we should beat—- aka Buc’s kryptonite.

  11. AMI_Chris Says:

This is an example of athletes thinking that fans are stupid. The Bucs tried incredibly hard to beat themselves and came up just a bit short.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

“That 5 yard shallow cross to Godwin vs Indy is surely a beauty

Same 5 yard route Godwin caught for 30 yard TD vs Sea

Non defensible and gets the ball out quick

It’s a shame BA/BL Twins strict guidelines only once per game

    Kobe can only dream”

bucs have been trashing the sport of football for the better part of 43 years when they earn respect by competing in the post season consistently the corner is turned until then they are the same bucs that have not won a meaningful game in 17 years.

Yea, 3 wins in a row. You know you should never miss a great opportunity to STFU. YOU POPCORN FART!!!!!

The only trade for Mike Evans I would find acceptable would be for a PREMIERE Left Tackle. Only a team whose backup is apparently very close to as good would even dream of doing such a thing. When have you ever seen that situation?

They are stopping beating themselves. Not “stopped”

They made progress. Most definitely. But the job is not done. The culture is still there. It’s just hidden waiting to pounce. Just like when we went 9-7 a couple years ago. They still need to fight it. They still need to step on its throat and rip its balls off! The beast is hurt but not dead.

  19. Buc727 Says:

Someone earlier said that without the to’s the game would have been an easy win. To quote one of the greats, that I admire; “this game is hard, played by hard men”. There are no easy teams. There are no easy wins in the NFL. I’m sick of internet assholes that never took a hit or made a tackle criticize men that go through countless car crashes every Sunday to win your fantasy league. You are winner if you play in the league…by default, period. Btw, thanks you Herm Edwards.

  20. Ndog Says:

Not sure what you’re talking about saying I trash this team? Get your facts straight bro, I post facts and support this team more than most.

  21. D Smythe Says:

Ok so lets sit back and look at the overall picture. With this new coaching staff in their first year and granted a QB who turns the ball over more then others, (but Jamies has brought us back in the fourth quarter many times in his 5 year career only to see the defense give it up and lose). The Bucs have won their last 4 out of 5 games and if they win the next 3 or 2 out 3 games how do you let go of that starting quarterback who was the QB for those games and has you on this winning streak and is part of this whole teams new culture change thing as they say? Remember its a team game

  22. Rod Munch Says:

“There was no doubt of our offense [being able to score late].”

That is so true – now think if we got a defense that week in and week out could be counted on (which I don’t think is out of the question in the next year or two). This team right now should be a winner if Gay makes his kick, but more than that, they’re really close (blown OT in Seattle, blown ref call @Tenn) to being 9-4. With Dirk, they were always really close to, but this time it seems like that is achievable since we have a real head coach and not just an out of position OC as the HC of the team.

    @sick of losing

I think you have brain damage.

Trade Mike Evans? The greatest WR in Bucs history?

A WR with NO EGO? A WR with a humble heart? A WR that is a warrior not a diva?

    Trade Mike Evans?

You must be the dumbest fan in Tampa.

  24. SickofLosing Says:

Dumbest fan in tampa bay, haha! I’m just someone who looks to the future, and how to help this team moving forward. There are way too many holes on this team and not enough cap room left. If the offense doesn’t miss a beat and proves it can function without ME13 (without doubt the best reciever in Bucs history) then if you can get 2 #1’s and a player, while saving another 15 mil in cap space, it might be prudent to think about. Something has to happen to restock the trenches and secondary and rb and qb.
Think about it, if you were GM of the Bucs, what would you do to fix this mess.

    Ha Nice. And likely true
