Tight End Shakeup Coming

News arrived today from the commander-in-chief at One Buc Palace.

First, the good news. Bucco Bruce Arians advised local media that Sunday should mark the return of the No. 19 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, O.J. Howard.

The bad news? Blocking tight end Antony Auclair, who got his first reception of the year yesterday, a short red zone throw, has a “bad turf toe.” And Arians said he is unsure of his status.

Cameron Brate toughed out his ribs injury for some snaps Sunday, Arians added, noting that reserve tackle Josh Wells played some tight end against the Seahawks.

Great to hear Howard is returning. Now he’s got to squeeze footballs, shoulder a big blocking load and show he can stay on the field for the entire second half of the season.

even the positive news is negative and unhelpful.

  2. Dewey Selmon Says:

OJ and Hudson need to hit the jugs machine this week.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Aahh yes, THAT’S the tmaxcon we all know and love. Mr Positivity. Hang in there Sunshine, it’ll get better. Or not.

  4. SOEbuc Says:

Who cares about TE in this scheme, anyway? OJ can block and for some dumb a$$ reason is not playing more in the slot and they’re letting stone hands, terrible routes Perriman play there. BL and BA scheme is a joke to not be using some of the great TEs in the NFL. SMDH.

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

Howard will probably sprain his ankle and be out the rest of the year.

  6. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Hudson looks more like the equivalent of a AAA baseball player not eeady for the big leagues.

  7. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

HEY COACH WHO THE HELL CARES AT THIS POINT? As a player why would I go out and give 100% and maybe tear a ACL and end my career for a team that is going nowhere this season.

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

Yeah Limp, Hudson is lucky Auclair is hurt or he might of been unemployed soon. Might bring in a new #4 TE after Auclair comes back. turf toe injuries linger. Auclair could go to IR if he not back in a reasonable about of time.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Injured TEs fit right into Joe’s plan for a better draft position…..

  10. JimmyJack Says:

I thought only DBs and WRs got turf toe?

Your a TE bro. You may only sit out injured if your broke a bone……Or if you ripped flesh clean off the bone. Unless your special like OJ.

  11. Doctor Stroud Says:

Last year, Auclair led all Tight Ends in penalties (8). He was good for another false start penalty yesterday. How long does this “project” have to develop? Please go back to the CFL!

  12. Hodad Says:

I believe Auclair will still get a flag for a false start, or holding even on the bench! Real big shoes to fill there, lol. Great O.J.’s back, to bad BA, and Lefty don’t know what to do with him.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Drafted OJ in the first round….and they don’t even use him.

    This team is totally inept.

Go Bucs!! (where I have no idea)

  14. SB Says:

Guys, don’t overreact to yesterday too much. A little bit is cool but Russell Wilson is on Fire! Yes he set his record yesterday against a rookie in Jamal Dean mostly but check out his stats for the entire year.
    Russell Wilson Stats
    Passer Ratting: 118.2
    Completion Percentage: 68.3%
    Passing Yards: 2,505
    Rushing Yards: 203
    Total TDs: 25
    INTs: 1

    …………
YES you read that Right…. 25 to 1 TD/TO rating. YOu can’t beat a QB like that.
That is what you call carrying a team.
Oh and don’t start talking about how Seattle has a great D.

  15. SB Says:

Also I think Tanner Hudson will be ok real quick. He got the big time Game Lights shined on him and he was nervous. I think he will be pretty good soon

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It may seem like more but Auclair has a grand total of 2 penalties this year….

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

If Hudson can’t block and he missed a td pass in 3rd qtr, why is he on the team?

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I watched the highlights again and I must say…..Russell Wilson put some perfect passes on Dean several times….especially the one in OT on 3rd down…..unbelievable pass……Dean had good coverage….pass was perfect….nothing any DB could have done to prevent the completion.

  19. james west Says:

oj howard was not the right pick at 19, and he has proved it over the last two seasons, should have went somewhere else with the pick

  20. SB Says:

^^ Trade up for McCaffery was the pick in retrospect. ^^
That is who I wanted all along but most Bucs fans were like ” Oh he is just a gadget player” ” He will get hurt his first yr”
    SMDH

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Preach SB

  22. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    SB

Concerning Russell Wilson not the gadget player lol

  23. stpetebucsfan Says:

    SB

I was with you on McCaffery. But lets face it…if we’re honest there was more than the “gadget” “get hurt” albatross.

McCaffery was white and so many folks black and white…including ME..a 71 year old white dude were suspicious. Let’s be honest. It’s far easier to stereotype than give someone white or black or green the benefit of the doubt.

Racism is far more rooted in our brains than we realize. When I was a sportscaster in Greenville SC Furman drafted a kid from Kingsport Tennessee..Rodney Arnold. All Paladin fans were jacked because we were told he could jump through the roof.

Our first view…the Purple White preseason scrimmage. The fans excited they introduce the players and Rodney comes out and he’s a freaking white guy. There was almost a perceptible groan in the crowd…a white guy? Then during warmups Rodney goes up and does a 360 slam and folks went crazy.
Dude could jump through the roof it turns out. Dumber than a rock but a great leaper.

This was before the Snipes/Harrelson classic “White Men Can’t Jump”.

  24. Dapostman Says:

    @SB,

and yet as great as Russell Wilson was yesterday the game was TIED after regulation 34-34. Maybe the great Russell Wilson doesn’t even beat the Bucs yesterday if he doesn’t win the coin toss in OT. Then would you be here spouting how great Russell Wilson is? My guess is NO!

    Boy you guys are dense.

  26. jjbucfan Says:

SB- Cook would have been just fine without losing picks

  27. Buc believer Says:

    Ohh Goody

  28. SB Says:

    Cook………..Lol
    Also Lol @ Dapostman
RW 25 tds to ONE int. Dense huh?

  29. SB Says:

You are what your record says you are. Someone famous once said that.Hence the reason I took Russell Wilson in FF before anyone else could. Say what you want that is one of the best decision makers in the QB position in Football. Numbers can only lie so much. He has a Horrific Pass D and is 8 and 2? or Something?

  30. SB Says:

Dapostman you should really think before you hit ‘Submit’

  31. SB Says:

@SPBF, you know you have always been one of my favorite posters here over the last 7 yrs that I have been here. I would love to agree with you here and now but then I would be racist. You know how the one way street goes.
I didn’t want to bring up how nobody wanted a white RB.

  32. PUGS&BUCS Says:

Dalvin Cook has averaged 139.5 yards from scrimmage per game this season (2nd best in the NFL. This past week, 116 total yards on 25 touches. In this season alone (8 games), Cook has amassed more total yards that Howard has amassed in his ENTIRE CAREER.

But, you know, OJ Howard fell to us so we had to take him. And it’s all Jameis’ fault.

  33. SB Says:

Cook played 4 games his first yr
    11 games his second yr.
This is the first yr he has played in all games SO FAR.
History of injuries throughout HS and College.
CMC has lead the league in touches his first two yrs and is leading again. CMC was the pick of 2017.
Howard was an overblown Alabama project as usual

  34. SB Says:

How in the HE Double Hockey Sticks could Dalvin Cook had made us better when he can’t stay healthy behind a much better OL?
Jeesh take your College affiliation out of the equation when they put on a different Jersey will ya?

  35. PUGS&BUCS Says:

SB… was he on the board when the Bucs picked?

    No.

    Cook was.

  36. PUGS&BUCS Says:

SB… Cook hasn’t missed a game this year. He’s been active all year and he’s doing well. When OJ has been on the field he’s been a liability with penalties and fumbles. The Bucs didn’t need a TE. They had Brate who just got a new contract and had great chemistry with JW. They needed an RB and they passed on someone who JW was familiar with and comfortable with. He even LOBBIED for him, but Licht thought he knew better. Howard’s done nothing but disrupt.

I realize he had injuries earlier on, but he seems to be past that now and is a top-tier RB on a 6-3 team.

  37. SB Says:

Hey Pugs……I think I pointed out that he hasn’t missed a game all yr. THIS YR.
But he only played in 15 of his previous 32 available.
Not trying to measure dicks but DC hasn’t lit it up until this yr and his injuries may show up.
ALL 32 teams passed up on Cook in Rd. 1
Don’t act like the Bucs are the only one and he still hasn’t proved much more than Jameis. Flashes of Brilliance but can you count on him long term.
    Jury still out on both.

Mike Alstott was a white RB…..

    Don’t nitpick…..RB & FB…..same thing….

Todd has been taking out the best player out of every team we have face. He didn’t take out Carson. Or Lockett or hollister. Or Wilson. Let’s face it at this point. We will compete for win with rookies.

  42. ElBajito43 Says:

Guys Kellen Winslow Jr should be getting out of prison in about 8 yrs so maybe by then the Buccaneers will have incorporated TE into the scheme….. WinnySton-The-Pooh will still be at QB. The chemistry 🧪 between these 2 guys will be INSTANT!!
    America’s Groper and America’s R@per….
New England had it figured out years ago. 2 TE sets featuring 1 Paychp@th TE (Hernandez)
And one Big Lunk Alarm 🚨.

    “Trash” Licht is blind.

  43. Ryan Hayes Says:

Jason should have traded whatever he needed to to trade up to the 1st pick of the 2nd round to draft Dalvin Cook imagine if we would have gotten O.J. an Cook not Justin Evans Dam I hope Evans can Come back Healthy next year an pair him with our 2ndary I think SMB Dean an Davis will be a good 2ndary for years to come VH3 has to go I’ve seen enough let’s get MJ on the Outside see what he can do out there instead of Nickle

Not sure what Licht is evaluating, relative to a winning plan. I am a BUC FAN, who wants WINS….

Dalvin SHOULD have been Bucs choice in Rd1, or easy trade up in Rd2…But as usual, LICHT whiffed in Rd2, and Vikes beat him to trade up for Cook, who will be annual Pro-Bowl RB…..HMM a “little better” than Peyton Barber or RJ2…..

    Thanks again, JL….

  50. rrsrq Says:

Jordan Leggett is better than Tanner Hudson. Leggett has NFL experience and big game experience with Clemson, but we keep throwing to Tanner and Scotty and expecting NFL results. Trying to create a new Brate and Hump. We hit lightning in a bottle, that is is not a lasting way to build depth

His stats for fantasy football are meaningless and if he doesn’t win the coin toss you aren’t here.

You can pine all you want and are entitled to your own opinion but you are not entitled to your own facts.
