“This Team Can Go On A Run”

November 28th, 2019

Bullish on Bucs.

Joe is trying not to get fooled, but hey, it’s Thanksgiving. Be nice.

So with the Bucs at 4-7 through 11 games, it’s hard not to think the way the Bucs played last Sunday in Atlanta that maybe, this team has a spark left in them. The schedule is somewhat easy. The offense is clicking. The secondary seemed to have its act together.

“Yeah, we’re mathematically still in it, so everything we do is ahead of us,” Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said yesterday.

The Bucs would have to make a heckuva turnaround but Brian Baldinger of NFL Network seems to think the Bucs just might pull that off.

In the video below, Baldinger, a former NFL offensive lineman, just marveled at the pass rush the Bucs have put together. He said the play of Vita Vea, Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett can be a dominant force like they were in Atlanta.

And as other teams have proven (hello, John Lynch), if you have a pass rush, it can carry a team.

Baldinger is convinced a Bucs turnaround is within their power.

“This team can go on a run,” Baldinger said.

No, Joe hasn’t hit the bottle today. Yet.

We need to stops the “runs”…

  3. Defense Rules Says:

I love Baldy’s play breakdowns. He’s the best far as I’m concerned. And he’s absolutely right IMO … the Bucs could go on a tear for these last 5 games, if they stay healthy of course. Still, given that the Packers & Vikings in the NFC North are both 8-3, and the 49ers & Seahawks in the NFC West are 10-1 & 9-2 respectively, it’s highly doubtful that the Bucs would even sniff the playoffs if we won out & finished 9-7. Even 10-6 probably wouldn’t have done it. LOTS of solid competition in the NFC.

Still, finishing strong sends a HUGE message, to the fans, to our players & to next year’s opponents. Re-signing Barrett to a 4-5 year contract is a must. Re-signing JPP & Suh to 1-2 year contracts would sure be nice too, then drafting 1-2 DLinemen for them to ‘break in’ during this coming year. Warriors like those 2 are hard to find.

  4. Buccnbeliever Says:

If the secondary plays like last week, it’s almost a safe bet. 9-7!!!

  5. 1sparkybuc Says:

They can go on a run if Licht can keep them together. That’s the trick.

We would need to win out and have the Cowboys implode… Guess I know who to root for today! Schedule for the others between us and Wild Card 2 point to at least 7 losses when it’s all said and done.

  7. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I have to agree. I love Baldy’s breakdowns. When I watch them I feel like we have a very good team…

and he didnt even show DWhite exploding through gaps also

Our front 7 is rock solid, keep them all, please

What i like that they have done is not just line up in the same exact look all the time, a la a 4-3 cover 2 base D

They bring 10 different formations, run stunts, games, flood sides, blitz a lot – keeps the qb under duress and impacts a lot of throws

if the kids can keep growing in the secondary, the D is suddenly looking quite formidable..

  10. Hodad Says:

The second half of the season started week 10 with 8 games remaining. We stumbled through the first 8 games finishing with a losing record. There were a lot of excuses. Legit ones, travel, being away from home for weeks, but the last 8 games there are none. We’re home, and our opponents records aren’t that good. So far we are 2-1 since week 10. Losing to N.O., and beating AZ, ATL. If we’re to have hope moving forward of any kind we have to have a winning record in this second season if you will. Let’s see which direction we go.

  11. orlbucfan Says:

In LVD I trust! He is thriving under Bowles. Another reason why Bucs had a lousy first half of the season was COS THE TEAM HAD TO ADJUST TO A NEW HEAD COACH AND STAFF!! Here’s hoping the Chicks kick the Saints’ and Payton’s azz tonite! Looking forward to these last 5 games.

  12. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

Great Stuff… To bad we are up & mostly down team… The D looks like it’s gelling!!!

  13. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

It take time to change a bad 10 year losing cycle…

  14. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I love it too. However, I sense a HUGE KOD coming on!

  15. Rayjay1122 Says:

A run would be nice but I am not very optimistic due to the fact that this team is not consistent enough to all of a sudden go on a winning streak. Costly penalties, turnovers, play calling, break downs in communication, missing assignments etc.. All are way too frequent with the Bucs for me to get on a run to 9-7. Sucks that this team have made me so pessimistic about their chances of sustainable success but it’s a byproduct of over a decade of futility.

  16. Wesley Says:

    This is funny stuff.

  17. Brandon Says:

The schedule is set up for a run. A 3-2 finish looks promising, 4-1 very possible, dare I say 5-0. Whatever happens we’ll be kicking ourselves for letting the Giants and Seahawks off the hook! Thank you, Denny Green.

  18. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

I just hope we can get these three guys under contract for next year and beyond!

  19. Kwame Richardson,Sr. Says:

Nice, happy thanksgiving Buccaneers, Bud fans and JoeBucsFan.

  20. SB Says:

    What Stan said.

  21. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

I definitely hope we keep Barrett and JPP. We will need to draft another d lineman. Wouldn’t mind having Suh too but not sure he will want to stay nor can we afford them all. Go Bucs! Happy Thanksgiving!

  22. Bojim Says:

Soon as somebody says something nice about the Bucs we get blown away the next week. Hope Nick Foles doesn’t read this.

  23. Buccfan37 Says:

You have to win two games in a row to start a winning streak. The Jags?

  24. Gettinthebucs Says:

Baldi is a great evaluator and breaks down film with best of them. He is giving me hope I didn’t think we had a couple weeks ago. The x factor is Jameis. If he cuts down the turnovers I can see a run happening. Rojo also needs 20 touches a game minimum.
