Third Down Troubles

November 19th, 2019

Offensive struggles.

Talk to an offensive coach and they will tell you if a team constantly has third-and-short, it’s a good bet the team will have a good day.

So when Joe heard what Bucco Bruce Arians told Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV Channel 8 about the Bucs offense in their weekly sitdown earlier this week, none of it surprised Joe as it relates to and how and why the Bucs got owned by the Saints.

“They did a great job of staying in third-and-five or less,” Arians said. “We were stuck in third-and-fives to 12s. We didn’t stay on the field and we didn’t get off the field [defensively] enough.”

Arians quipped that it felt as if the Bucs only had three offensive plays in the first quarter.

The Bucs played so poorly in Sunday’s game from so many different angles, Joe can’t really single out one area that lost the game. It was a thorough beatdown and demonstrated just how far the Bucs are from having a winning team.

Klueless can be fired the next day, beaten, robbed or have ASJ crap on him but

NO ONE is going to stop him from dropping 40 pts on the QB whimperer Bucs

  2. 2020 What is the bucs future plan? Says:

    WE NEED:

    1. NEW QB
    2.NEW GM
    3. NEW COACHS

    GLAZERS WAKE THE F#@%&*CK UP!

  3. Nick2 Says:

Too bad the Glazers granted on the job training for an OC coaching a team that hasnt made the playoffs in 12 years. Great bargaining…..

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

We got a hell of a lot more problems than just third down

  5. bogiedr Says:

Clean house!!! Team Glaser, hire a solid qualified GM. Find Mike Mayock!!

  6. soggy Says:

player more intensity some coaching changes and mat ryan is playing well and now the bucs are at the botom of our division UM..

  7. unbelievable Says:

By the time the Saints went up 20 – 0, the Bucs had run a whopping total of 5 offensive plays plus 1 punt.

    End of story.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

BL has helped guide the offense to top 10 in scoring….

JW is on his way to a 3rd straight 5win season….

but we know…lol…it aint his fault….

    GO BUCS!!!!

    Struggle on 3rd down?

Man only if we had a experienced play caller to help out the guy learning on the job

  11. Jean Lafitte Says:

What player who touches the ball 100% of the time contributed the most to the lack of offensive plays?

Jensen or Winston? …somewhere BA has to acknowledge that his QB is a problem. This constant denial will eventually get him run. Sometimes Jameis looks like a high school QB who just doesn’t have autonomous command (audibles) of his own offense. He struggles to get his offense in the correct alignment to counter the defensive scheme. Damn the torpedoes, he’ll just force the play anyway. This offense would do better under a seasoned veteran next season while we draft another young QB to sit and learn.

Teddy Bridgewater would be my first choice.
    Nick Foles
    Case Keenum
    Alex Smith
    a healthy Cam Newton

    ^^^^^ bingo

  14. Dewey Selmon Says:

I think BA knows WIston has reached his ceiling, but he will defend him until the end of the year. No reason to throw him under the bus. He might rag on everyone else but he will coddle his QB to not rattle his confidence.

  15. Kansas95Buc Says:

No O-line, no run game, no secondary, no halftime adjustments. What QB on Gods green earth can with stand all of that?

  16. Bosch Says:

2020: The only path to that wish list is through owners.

  17. Bosch Says:

    New owners

  18. Jean Lafitte Says:

    ^^^^for 5 years? …wakeup!

  19. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Better management, better coach, better quarterback(s), better players.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    dewey

wouldnt that suggest JW is mentally weak and cant take coaching or criticism?….

that sounds like BA isnt hold JW accountable….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Defense Rules Says:

BA is partially right about the 3rd down differences, but it’s inconsequential. Bucs were 5-for-13 on 3rd down and the Saints were 7-for-13 … not THAT much of a difference. Bucs had 68 plays in the game, while the Saints had 70 plays … not THAT much of a difference either. Bucs had 23:00 TOP while the Saints had 37:00 TOP … HUGE difference. TWO REASONS for that HUGE difference:

Reason #1: Saints had BALANCE in their offensive attack … 28 rushes & 35 passes. Bucs had NO BALANCE in their offensive attack … 8 rushes & 51 passes. Saints kept the clock rolling with their rushing AND high short passing completion percentage (80%). Bucs killed the clock with minimal rushes & much lower passing completion percentage (58.8%). It’s not rocket science Bruce.

Reason #2: Saints had ZERO turnovers to kill drives. Bucs had FOUR turnovers to kill drives AND give the ball to the Saints in good field position. It’s not rocket science Bruce.

IF you have a turnover differential of MINUS 2 in a game, history says that you WILL LOSE 76% of the time.
IF you have a turnover differential of MINUS 3 in a game, history says that you WILL LOSE 88% of the time.
IF you have a turnover differential of MINUS 4 in a game, history says that you WILL LOSE 96% of the time.

Now aren’t you happy coach that you don’t have a Statistics Group on the Bucs? Just keep telling everyone we lost because of the differences in 3rd down stats.

It would be even better if in short yardage BA lined Vea up as the FB with Barber as the RB and got first downs and TDS without risking an interception passing!

  23. Jean Lafitte Says:

wow …that was impressive DR …*golf clap*

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

D.R you remind me of my ole man the bookie. He was good with numbers too.

  25. Donnie wish we were better Buc fan Says:

    I agree with Defense ^

All that is showing is we are putting more pressure on a struggling secondary and struggling QB.

I mean think about it, struggling JW(known to everyone)51 attempts to 8 run attempts – getting 3rd-and-outs in 21seconds and knowing that it’s also a T.O.P. thing, given more pressure on the young struggling defense.

Unless it’s a test for JW/Def(to throw everything at them to see what they can handle) or we are purposely tanking and trying to look good at it, they are not any good at their job.
I feel bad for all the players. This team is being ran horrible.

We need new leadership at HQ.
What’s Ronde up to? Ol Bucs DBs are turning into good GMs ..Just saying..

  26. bojim Says:

Nice dome. Malcom, we miss you.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

StPete … My favorite uncle growing up (his name was Dutch & yes he was from Holland) was a bookie. Two of my other uncles ran dog tracks in the area. You can learn a lot hanging around guys like that.

  28. Anonymous Says:

The Glazers have to be disappointed with this guy. Doesn’t call his own plays because of the stress. Rides around in a golf cart. Makes rookie coach mistakes in games. Defends the indefensible (JW3). They have got to be having all kinds of buyer’s remorse on so many levels right now.

  29. Clw JB Says:

He wasn’t a HC, but do we have one now?

We all thought we did, but we do not -we have a crew of “Vets” that are failing miserably on both sides of the ball – is Moore still breathing? Think the game might have passed by the 80+ year old consultant?

OLine is bad, bad, bad -Goodwin, you are not good

Run game – meh – see OLine – Dare should be in the CFL – we cant find a better 3rd back than a 215 lb “scat” back that cant block?

JW is the same TO machine he has always been, with an average OLine in pass blocking and below average in run blocking

The Saints boasted of abusing DSmith on TWITTER in the off-season and guess what, they destroyed his butt ALL DAY

We make a habit of signing garbage for market value

Same record, but they are 2 in a row and we got spanked at home by the team they just beat in their house

And I don’t even have to talk about the secondary, we all know what time it is there….

Common sense….we will be 3-8 by 4:15 pm on Sunday November 24, 2019

  30. Buc96NYC Says:

    Dean > Davis

Just make the change, Davis is solid but Dean is around the ball more often (look @ his pass breakups) & he can actually catch interceptions…

That’s w/ him playing limited snaps & being a rookie
