“Overcommunication”

November 26th, 2019

Lavonte David chimes in

Communication was the dreaded C-word during Mike Smith’s faulty command of the Tampa Bay defense.

For various reasons, the Bucs secondary struggled to be on the same page repeatedly.

This season, the Bucs have had all kinds of problems with receivers running free in their secondary. Joe often uses the deer in a cornfield analogy.

But things tightened up considerably on Sunday in Atlanta after a major breakdown early in the game that Bucco Bruce Arians references in his weekly sitdown with WFLA-TV sports chief Dan Lucas below.

Also, and more interesting, Lavonte David spoke on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game about how the team stressed “overcommunication” leading up to the Falcons game. David really made a point to overcommunicate the team’s embrace of overcommunication. (Should Joe type it again?).

Joe was glad to hear it and, frankly, never understood why that was such a persistent issue over years for the past regime. If you have a problem getting on the same page, then simply talk everything through at all times like you’re a first-grader leading a game of Simon Says.

Man, if this secondary can just tighten up and find its way to average, the Bucs will start winning games, certainly against second-rate opponents like they face on Sunday in Jacksonville.

Hey, a win is a win, and it is nice to see Coach Arians smiling, for a change.
We should get another win in Jacksonville this week.

  2. DB55 Says:

Mike Edwards is the best defensive player behind lvd.

The audio split on that video is horrible if you wearing headphones lol

great article Joe good to see what the defense attributes the improvement to

Not if Jameis turns it over 4 times-
They both go hand in hand, better D and reduce turnovers

  5. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

We going to whup that ass in Jacksonville believe that

LVD speaks, the entire Defense listens. No surprise there!

  7. #1bucfan Says:

Alan that’s what I’ve bin saying yes deff Winston needs to cut down on the turnovers. But even if he did the defense has to play like they did against the falcons cuz if they don’t even if Winston plays perfect we will still lose. Both need to play better an more consistent

  8. Buczilla Says:

Two wins in a row would be damn nice.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

I never feel comfortable when folks say ‘We should beat Jacksonville’. Folks said that about the Giants game too, and we lost. Sad fact is that the Bucs as a team are inconsistent, for a myriad of reasons. Last Sunday was a TEAM EFFORT and we won.

Now we need another TEAM EFFORT to beat the Jaguars. Their record this year is exactly the same as ours, and they’re playing on their home turf. Their weakness? Jags are terrible against the run (as in #29 in Rushing Yardage Allowed, #31 in Rushing TDs Allowed, and #32 in Average Rushing Yards per Run). But they do have a decent pass defense (as in 15 INTs this year & only 16 passing TDs allowed). A BALANCED ATTACK is the best way to approach this game IMO.

DB55 … Mike Edwards is starting to come on, but he’s FAR from being our best defensive player. 30 tackles (24 solo), 4 PDs, 1 sack, 2 TFLs, 1 QB Hit, and 0 INTs gives him numbers about equivalent to what VHIII got while he was with us, and about the same as SMB right now.

communication is more than just telling the guy “stand there” or “get that guy” … Joe you always make it sound like it is some easy fix like “well, why dont they just sit down and talk about it!?) ….. it is not that simple …… you study film and talk to each other all week and figure out what you are going to do in a certain situation…. then the other team flips the script on ya and goes to something totally different and you have about 3 seconds to figure it out!! throw in the fact they are ALL ROOKIES and the coaching staff was too cocky to get vet help (either that or the glazers put lichte on a short leash) and that is a recipe for miscommunication!!! …. i can tell Joe you have never played organized football by some of the things you say

  12. whaaatttsss uuuup Says:

they looked really good Sunday because the falcons did exactly what the tape said they were going to do… and the reason the falcons whipped the other 2 teams is because the film those teams were studying were different than what the falcons did and it confused (or caused miscommunication issues) with a very good secondary of the saints and panthers….. the falcons thought they had something to stick with and didnt change much from what the tape said …. the coaches told you all this if you really listen

ha you erased my post?? why because i made too much sense?? Classic reaction when one’s post doesn’t appear within 5 minutes. Hope you enjoy reading your comments. Joe is not a communist. JoeBucsFan is a dictatorship. –Joe …. how you do not know what it is really all about because you have never played? … if you moderate people who did not cuss or do anything wrong then you are a communist and will lose a lot of followers

  14. Defense Rules Says:

whaaatttssss uuuup … LMAO. It always helps to call the guy who owns the site ‘a communist’. Good luck with that.

  15. Tackleblockwin Says:

Want to see them start stringing together some wins and grow in confidence. Let’s go Bucs.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The Buccaneers have not historically done well against Jacksonville.

That said, this is not the past.

In my experience, Joe very rarely deletes posts. He does, however, use a WordPress Website, and the filters on them are strict and sometimes unpredictable. More likely, the filters placed you in moderation until Joe can look the post over and approve it.

Amazingly, he tends to get to it pretty quickly most of the time…sometimes within minutes.

Joe, when was the last time you were in Ukraine?

I was trapped there in 1990. Gorby had been kidnapped for a few days, and we were smuggling Americans out.
