Jamel Dean Will Play

November 22nd, 2019

Odd explanations.

There is just something fishy about this Jamel Dean situation that doesn’t sit right with Joe.

Yes, Dean, a Bucs rookie corner, had a heckuva game two weeks ago in a win over Arizona. Even had a pass breakup (a rare occurrence with this Bucs secondary) to seal the win.

(To be fair, the Bucs have better luck breaking up a pass than Joe did Thursday night searching for a meteor at a remote, pitch-black county park/Gulf boat launch area. What a dud!)

In the loss to the Saints a week later, Dean, despite coming off his best game since he came to the NFL, didn’t see the field for one snap. Immediately afterwards, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians confessed Dean should have played and vowed not to let that happen again.

Arians later explained Dean is a man corner and the Bucs were playing zone, which is why the team didn’t use Dean.

Then Jenna Laine of ESPN did some research and found Dean, when playing zone for the Bucs, has done quite well for himself. So this man vs. zone didn’t wash.

And yesterday, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles admitted Dean can play some zone. Well?

But like Arians previously, Bowles pledged to get Dean on the field.

“We’ve still got to get him on the field,” Bowles said. “I’ve got to do a better job of that.”

Both coaches admit they erred. And then Dean’s defensive coordinator yesterday offers Dean can play zone, which seemed counter to Arians’ explanation.

If Joe didn’t know better, Dean was benched for something behind the scenes and Arians and Bowles don’t want to let the cat out of the bag.

Now Joe has zero information or any tip that Dean broke a team rule or violated some code. But this dance that Arians and Bowles are doing about Dean not playing sure smells like a cover.

He failed to pay his share of table dances at Mons Venus……..

And, who sits?…….Carlton Davis…..no…..probably SMB because Edwards will play nickel.

Actually, I think we have so many rookies & development issues coaches are confused as to what to do…..

  2. Easy Says:

This coaching staff has screwed us fans massively this season. Its all on Arians.

  3. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

How in the HECK does a multi million dollar coach “err” by not using his best players?? This is the same Arians, when asked why didn’t you put Griffin in the game when Winston was hurt….”He’s not one of our best players”…..idiotic.

  4. tnew Says:

This was crazy to me… especially in the week after they cut VHIII, you’d think it was all hands on deck. To sit a guy, who went from playing terrible vs Seattle to lights out vs Phoenix is just crazy.

Think of it, a corner starting to play well, if he could’ve had the opportunity to break up one of the 3rd down pass plays, that’s a change of possession.

But I have a better idea, move Edwards a guy who has been a safety all season down to slot corner vs Brees and the Saints.. BAFFLING.

This is just part of a confusing message from our coaching staff

  5. Slugglife Says:

This is all just meant to confuse the hell out of everybody and distract from losing.

  6. Erick Says:

Gotta agree with Easy. Was excited about Arians hire but man have there been a lot of questionable decisions and screw ups made with this coaching staff

  7. Troy Says:

Arians might be physically healthy, but mentally, he’s done.

  8. MadMax Says:

Cant see the forest for the trees? Come on….we’re playing for the draft now guys, THINK!

  9. NPRSageBoy Says:

Typical Arians. It’s tough to separate the BS from the truth.

I’m not sure he knows the truth anymore.

    Peace, out

  10. Allbuccedup Says:

Probably trying to cover a failed drug test BA players have a history of that.

  11. TOM Says:

I also feel there is something wrong with Arians. Not sure what but he’s made a lot of questionable moves that leaves me dumbfounded. I believe the Glazer’s here again was bamboozeled. Signing a HC who said he wouldn’t be calling the plays & signing loser Licht to an extension for what reason is unknown to the fans. And don’t say because of the good job he’s doing. I just don’t think they want to be bothered. And that may be the fly in the ointment. If that is the case they should either sell the team or at least hire someone to take over the day to day football operations. Who would be in charge of all the hiring & firing and all team related moves. Whoever don’t like it can move on. This whole thing can’t keep going on the way it is now & in the past. If they make either of these moves all they’d have to do is sit back and do nothing but count there money.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

JW interceptions is the reason why he landed on bench

  13. FanO’Bucs Says:

    Playing for the draft.

  14. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Too large a staff. One hand doesn’t know what the other is doing. And when Arians gets questioned about it, he doesn’t throw the coach under the bus.

  15. Dapostman Says:

Larry, Curley and Moe running the show. If the decision makers weren’t so pathetic it would be comical. I saw quite a few blitzes against the Saints and I’m sure the Bucs weren’t in zone then. Totally inept.

It’s Koetter and Smith all over again.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

i agree with joe….something fishy is going on….

BA puts VHG on the bench for loafing and then releases him…the team response by coming out flat along with multiple player being caught on camera loafing….

he benches OJ for brate after OJs fumble and then suggest he may need to see a shrink….

dean has a great game and then puts him on the bench because he cant play zone….lol….BS…

imo, dean and others arent buying what BA is selling….calling players out in public aint the way to go in this new NFL…..BA saying dean cant play zone is unacceptable especially with him being a veteran coach with a veteran staff….

    shouldve hired Kris Richard…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. Pewter power Says:

Lol something doesn’t smell right? Haha dude has two games worth of experience. He got abused the first week and did ok the second week. What did she did up preseason games?

  18. tickrdr Says:

I’m hoping it is two more games for Winston, then four for Ryan Griffin, to see if he is worth keeping as a backup, then drafting a QB next year. I hope they sign a veteran, and bench the rookie till they can build the trenches. Throwing to anybody but ME13 and Godwin, not playing Dean, leaving Winston in, even when he is obviously hurt…………..hmmmm, what could they be thinking???

  19. View from 132 Says:

Dean’s playing time is all we have left this season… I think I’ll see you all in the spring. There is being a fan and then there is irrelevant minutiae… and we’ve crossed that line. Safe holidays all.

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

Hard scrambled egg coaching staff when Bucs needed over easy, with a side of burnt toast excuses. Patience means never forever.

  21. unbelievable Says:

I’m less and less impressed with Arians as each week goes by, regardless of whether we win or lose.

We have 700 coaches and not one of them seems to be on the same page with the others.

Maybe we just need to hire a few more… yea that should do it.

  22. Bradinator Says:

To Arians and coaching staff- As a customer, I am unsatisfied with your service. I want to talk to your Manager, Sir! WE are not getting our money’s worth out of this staff so far. Too many just plain odd mistakes. Throwing challenge flags when you don’t have time outs, Throwing challenge flags on PIs (hint- the refs ain’t changing nothing unless it’s egregious), maybe Dean can play Zone, maybe he can’t, Almost the entire N.O game preparation, and the inexplicable throws to guys that ain’t that good. This is NOT what I envisioned or the bill of goods we were sold!

  23. OBP Says:

Good coaches find ways to get your best players on the field, if your concern is that he isn’t good in zone then just keep him in man for the entire game. Think about how much better we would’ve been last week if Dean was manned up on Mike Thomas and we rolled coverage to that side?

  24. SOEbuc Says:

I was so excited to have Bowels come in and teach this young secondary and still have hope. Spend money on prime CB and S in FA and we can see what happens from there.

  25. lambchop Says:

He was at Mons the day before the game?

  26. tickrdr Says:

Maybe they’re tanking the rest of the season.
If they think JW3 is the future, WHY did they let him back on the field last week, when he was obviously hurt, and could have been injured more permanently???
Why have they not used their tight ends, especially when Brate gets 10 catches during his only extended playing time of the season.
Why all of the questionable play calls and challenges for an experienced staff of coaches?
Why run up the middle on so many first down plays?
Why ……….. all of the other questions everyone has had this year?

    tickrdr

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Lambchop he learned how to be a pro under the wing of our grizzled vet who has now been disgraced and removed from the team.

I’ve heard more then a couple rumblings from a few media’s that are “in the know” that it sure smells like there was more to Dean not playing last week then just running zone defense.

    It freaking adds up dude.

  28. #1bucfan Says:

OBP totally agree with you. Instead they had #45 covering MT. Then people want to call #45 a bust cuz he can’t cover a WR. prob a WR that will be in the hall of fame one day. There’s not one LB in the league that is going to cover a WR of MT caliber. How is this putting your players in the best position to succeed you bench one an the other is a LB covering a WR. I don’t understand that

  29. whats the bucs plan 2020 Says:

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES !!

  30. Kansas95Buc Says:

Why is it we get coaches and they never adjust to what we have on the roster?! This is down right criminal!!!!

  31. BigHog Says:

It can’t be turned around (over nite) not here! Let BA do his thing…coach K & Lovie had their turn …give these coaches their chance…KERP GRINDING UNTIL THINGS GET BETTER!!

  32. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @TOM

I think you’re on to something. How can we have the same issues despite having different players and coaches?!

  33. Licht Headed Says:

Occam’s Razor: The Bucs are tanking for the draft but the coaches cannot admit to that strategy.

  34. Aaron Says:

We are 3 and 7…maybe our coaches are that bad

  35. down in the dirt doug Says:

BA is acting like a coach that will just let his quarterback play his way out of Tampa. If we win four or five games BA is hoping the owners will pull the plug on this failed experiment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Jeff Says:

More bad coaching from the Bucs. Arians is one of the lowest rated coaches in the league. He can’t figure out how to use OJ, can’t manage a screen game, and is a clueless game manager. Bucs need a younger up and coming coach and time to blow this up.

  37. SOEbuc Says:

    BigHog

Best staff we’ve had on paper for a while and then they said 3-13 Byron Leftwich will be the OC and be calling most the plays. Heard that and my jaw dropped. That was just another gigantic mistake by the Bucs. Giving run around, holding, jumping D.Smith $40 million. Resign dusty Dotson. Never using your pro bowl type TEs, etc…migraine.

  38. Buc96NYC Says:

We can say A LOT of things regarding the coaches this yr & disagree. I can’t say that the coaches will protect a player that’s not doing the right thing. They haven’t @ all this yr & when something happens they spoke about it.

I don’t think it’s anything more than them thinking SMB x Davis are better outside corners, then Edwards played well in the slot. They didn’t have a spot for him b/c he’s really not a inside corner. I honestly think he’s better than Davis & they should just make that switch.

FYI Joe(s), I see you getting @ coaches regarding Edwards in the slot. You know it takes TIME to evaluate your players; especially when they’re rookies. Honey Badger started as a safety & played a lot of slot corner. I see Edwards being used the same way.
