Jameis’ Midseason Report Card

November 13th, 2019

Talkin’ Jameis.

In the past, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has said it’s not fair to judge a quarterback new to his offense until the halfway point of the season.

And before the bye when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winstonm had a strong three-game spurt, Arians remarked perhaps Jameis may have been ahead of the learning curve.

So now we are past the midway point of the season. Nine games to be exact. So Joe asked Arians today what kind of grade he would give Jameis.

“Last four [games] are very good,” Arians said. “I think three for sure. He’s still a little bit up and down at times. Two-minute situations and bringing us from behind, he has been excellent.”

Arians was asked when the decision is made by the team to fish or cut bait with Jameis, would Arians loook at Jameis’ full five-year career or just this season, Arians said, “I don’t give a sh!t about the last” four seasons. The head coach says he only cared about when Jameis has played for him.

Then, Arians, who seemed to be in a feisty mood today — in a good way — put an end to talking about Jameis’ future with the Bucs when he said, “It ain’t got sh!t to do with the Saints.”

So feel free to read into Jameis’ 2020 season and beyond from that.

next question should be, which would you prefer to have on your team next year jameis or bridgewater. šŸ˜‰

    or brees

  2. danr Says:

at least that would have to do with the saints

  3. jmarkbuc Says:

    So

he didn’t really commit one way or the other…..

“It ain’t got sh!t to do with the Saints”

Joe I’m having trouble understanding what Bruce is the alking about with that comment. Can you provide any clarity?

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    doesnt matter….

after each lousy game by JW all we’ll hear is:

    well, JW has 6more games to prove it…..then 5….then 4…then 3…then 2…

he’ll play great the last 2games and fsu blowhards will say see, he’s worth it….look at the last 2games while ignoring the first 14games….lol…

time to cut bait and build the trenches….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. Pewter power Says:

What is saying to clarify is you all are a bunch of idiots, he is focused on the saints and people are asking him about stuff you handle in the offseason. He is the starting quarterback so stop asking dumb questions is what it really comes down too. It’s just ignorant to want the bucs to win but say cut winston now to do that and go with a guy who has never thrown a regular season pass, if he gets hurt then you gotta go back to winston anyway. Dude will get every chance to prove he can be the quarterback for BA he dont care about stats under lovie or dirk so get over it

  7. Lamarcus Says:

Decision is made. Yup. He is signing something. Good day in Tampa Bay Keep up the good work JW

  8. Lamarcus Says:

Vh3 is on Texans. Joe how did u know

  9. Joe Says:

Arians only wanted to talk about Saints prep.

Bucs host the Saints Sunday at the Den of Depression.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Hey Winston might just be settling into this offense.

Like Arians I don’t care what he did last year or in years prior. I’m worried about this year and this team. If he masters this offense and can lead us the way he has in the last few weeks consistently he’s the QB I want for 2020 & beyond.

Big test this week vs N.O.

I expect the OL to do a much better job supporting Winston & I expect Jamies to give the Saints a much tougher game then last time.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

    Thanks Joe.

  12. Easy Says:

    JayMiss gets a C.

  13. bucsfan561 Says:

bridgewater mentioned in the same sentence as jameis is laughable… real football fans know that’s not a good comparison lol a gunslinger vs a checkdown machine… take your pick

  14. Bucnjim Says:

You mean great QB vs. Turnover machine right? Your best QBs protect the ball. They may have bad games but not bad seasons!

  15. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Last 4 good? So he was pleased with the performance vs the Panthers in London?

  16. BrianBucs Says:

Arians “The QB Whisperer” can’t criticize Winston because he knows Winston’s performance is a reflection of himself.
We all know that Winston has at least a couple of clunker games coming yet this season, so we’ll see what Arians has to say then.

  17. Armybucsfan Says:

bA is blind as fuq if he thinks winstons last 4 games were good. How many turn overs are considered okay? Heā€™s the worst Qb we have ever had and that is saying a lot.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

ā€œTwo-minute situations…, he has been excellent.” No kidding, BA! I have been howling about this all season. I don’t have a dog in the JW fight. I am a Bucs fan. But JW’s strengths have always been the quick 2-minute type plays, fakes, and a few running plays like QB options. He’s lethal in the short passing game when he’s calm. BA needs to start calling them. Saints will look like Aints this Sunday if he does. Go Tampa Bay!!

  19. unbelievable Says:

LOL at anyone thinking he’s gonna give a truthful answer before the season is over.

Cmon man, this ain’t your first rodeo, right?

  20. Wesley Says:

    C.

  21. BrianBucs Says:

Arians also forgot to mention that Winston has to bring his team from behind because they got that way because of his turnovers.

  22. BigHog Says:

    dnar: FAMOUS! FAMOUS!! FAMOUS!!!!

  23. BigHog Says:

That’s a lie …we won a CHAMPIONSHIP with a worst QB than FAMOUS…he’ll a lot worst…….but we had a better TEAM to compensate!!!!

  24. Stevebobucsfan Says:

I would like to see the Bucs franchise Winston and draft a QB. Really want to see what Winston look like next season his 2nd year under Arians and also after what happened with Hardgraves which I think is a strong message for this team. With all said if Jameis start the first 3 games next season inconsistently, start the new QB. This is only if and I mean IF Jameis look like he has improved over the next 7 games. I do remember that Bucs could easily be 5&4. A missed field with the Gaints. Defensive let down with the Seahawks and so on

  25. ben Says:

Winston is a way below average qb in the nfl so why is that ok with some fans?? Demand more ,expect more ..

  26. Oneilbucs Says:

The only thing I will be worried about is can or will the next scapegoat be able to put up the points that Jamies is putting up and I don’t want to here about garbage yards cause every game we win we have to score 30 points or more and the games we lost he put up 30 points or more. So what ever happened and we can’t score no more than what will be said than ????? If Jamies ends up playing for the 49ers they will be in a super bowl with that defense and running game and Jamies is scoring 30 points a game they will be unstoppable. And we will be still hoping to make the playoffs while you guys putting all the blame on the new scapegoat mark my words!!!! Lol lol lol !!!!

  27. Dapostman Says:

    Winston’s offense averaging 27.3 pts a game.

    Rodger’s offense averaging 25 pts a game.

WDS simpletons state Winston is a bust. Clowns.

  28. Jeffbuc Says:

Iā€™m not a Winston die hard and donā€™t think he should be given another contract due to the turnovers. But if you gave me the choice of bridge water and Jameis. I would say sign Jameis to a 10 year contract tomorrow. Our offense would be awful with a guy who throws all underneath stuff. Because we rarely throw any underneath stuff. We would have to have 15 play drives. And do any of you see that happening with all the penalties we get.

  29. Kobe Faker Says:

“Stubborn Bruce Almightys personality sooner or later will cause people to turn

Everywhere he has been, they are happy he is gone

Its human nature. No one can handle that entitled blaming othersno it all attitude for so long

We will win 4 games this year

Will BA be accountable or the victim?”

    Kobe Faker

  30. SteveK Says:

    DaPostman,

    Aaron Rodgers has two interceptions.

    Jameis has fourteen

How many more games does Green Bay lose if Rodgers turns it over that frequently? And, Iā€™d take 25 PPg with two interceptions on the year vs 27.3 and two interceptions just last week with 14 on the year.

When glad QB has a dozen more INTs in 9 games- itā€™s not the same at all dude!

Too many turnovers to ignore. Canā€™t go to the playoffs turning it over that much.

  31. ElBajito43 Says:

    Justin from Oregon plz

  32. catcard202 Says:

JW3 will likely get a 2nd contract from the Bucs…But it won’t break the bank.
Would guess somewhere close to 4yrs/$107M.

That should not deter the FO from taking a QB on the 1st or 2nd day in 2020, as there’s 6-7 quality options projected to be in the draft & Rookie contracts are very cost effective #2 options.

  33. Troy Says:

When Winston throws at least 2 pics and has at least one fumble, I’ll get to hear JEM (the Jay-Miss Excuse Machine) push blame for his mistakes onto the rest of the team. It’s truly pathetic to see. He’s the first QB in NFL history to never have a single turnover actually be his fault. Every year Winston stays on this team, the franchise is set back 2 years at this point.

  34. Dapostman Says:

    @SteveK,

Great, Aaron Rodgers has 2 picks yet musters 25 pts a game.

Winston musters 27.3 pts a game.

My non Florida education tells me 27.3 more better than 25.

    End of Story.

Saying you’ll take 25 pts a game over 27.3 points a game says everything I need to know.

  35. cmurda Says:

@SteveK. Come on. Are you comparing Aaron Rodgers to Jameis here? Everyone in the world knows that Aaron is elite. He’s a generational talent. In my opinion even more so than the GOAT Brady. Brady is blessed to be in a system that is very Qb friendly. Think about how many plays are designed to get the ball out of Brady’s hands quickly on easy slants and screens. Brady also has the luxury of a good defense every year while Aaron has had up and down defenses. Anyway, I digress. Jameis on the other hand has had horrific defenses with so-so O Lines. With that said, excuses cannot justify the volume of turnovers that Jameis gives up. His inability to be consistent with the deep throws and turnovers (decision-making) have been his Achilles heel. I also would give Jameis a “C”. He hasn’t been terrible but still way too many turnovers regardless of the reasons. Certainly not looking like a guy that you give the big contract extension to but more likely a franchise tender. There’s no sense in rushing the decision. There’s definitely no QB controversy in Tampa. Ryan Griffin? LMAO. Ummm, ok

  36. Jaywill Says:

Bucs averages 28.9 points a game not 27.5

  37. Dapostman Says:

    @Jaywill,

Bucs offense averages 27.3 pts. The defense scored 2 Td’s. I don’t count defense TD’s when debating how effective an offense has been.

  38. SteelStudBuc Says:

Arians also forgot to mention that 21% of the Bucs total points against have directly off Winston turnovers… That means 1 in 5 points is Winston’s fault.

  39. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Come*

  40. SteveK Says:

    DaPostman,

Why do you refuse to acknowledge the turnovers?

So saying Iā€™d take 25ppg with only 2 INTs in 9 games over 27.3 PPG and 14 INTs.

Do you consider the ā€œnet pointsā€ scored, as in how many points scored, after you subtract the points given up after a turnover?

I bet Aaron Rodgers team wins more games because he turns the ball over less. What do you think?

  41. Allbuccedup Says:

Spoken like a true man who doesn’t give two Sh_ts about the fan base.

  42. Pizzaman Says:

Some of you Buc fans are laughable. Do your research, Jamis has had your Bucs in position to win at the 2 minute warning 30 times durung his tenure, each time our great defense has failed to hold the lead. No offensive line, receivers who fail to run proper routes are make routine catches, no running game and yes its all Jamis fault.

  43. SteveK Says:

How are the most turnovers ever dismissed under the rug. Shameful. Why do we suck: pass defense and turnovers. Weā€™ve drafted 8 or 9 DBs under Licht and none are that great. We have a QB who turns it over more than anyone in history and it is a leading contributor to why we lose games.

  44. Buccfan37 Says:

The GM found a HC who loves Jameis as much as he does. I would say Jameis or bust but that’s well along already happening. That’s three jobs teetering on the brink.

  45. Dapostman Says:

    @SteveK,

I donā€™t dismiss the turnovers. If the Bucs were averaging 20 pts a game with the turnovers then Iā€™d be right there with you. But alas the facts are 27.3 points a game.

Letā€™s looks at a few games.
    49ā€™ers. Abysmal game.
Giants. 1 turnover that the defense got back. Still gave up 32 points.
Rams. Defense gave up 34 without any help.
Saints. Defense gave up 31 without any help.
    Panthers. Abysmal game.
Titans. 1 overthrow which attributed to 7 pts.
Center snap n strip Sack on OL.
Seahawks. OL fumble. Still gave up 37.
Cardinals. 2 picks. Defense got on back and held to 3 on other. Gave up 24 points on their own.

So sure turnovers are an issue but they are not the number one issue since this defense even when a turnover doesnā€™t hurt they still give up 30+. So I will take the 27.3 a game since we could be at 20 a game with no turnovers while giving up 30 a game. Not a recipe for success either.

  46. Reverend Rocky Rocks Says:

There is a quarterback who went to his knee and it cost him three years. He is available now. U might consider going after him. He is not prone to interceptions and he can throw rockets. Backup/starter whatever. You cannot go wrong.

  47. Dan Says:

He leads the NFL in picks and is sub 500. Thatā€™s a fail folks.

  48. 1sparkybuc Says:

Aaron Rodgers would not be an elite QB behind our OL.
