Don’t Be Dumb

November 20th, 2019

Target of ire.

So many Bucs fans happily will drink themselves into comas if the Bucs have a new quarterback in 2020, they want to get rid of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston so bad.

It makes Joe ill.

But hey, when an organization puts out a crap team year after year after year for 10 of the last 12 years, what else is there to root for other than hoping productive starters circle the drain? The years of losing have mounted so badly that it has demented otherwise sane fans.

Vincent Verhei of Football Outsiders wrote a piece recently about how good the duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin is. Verhei noted the Bucs and Jameis do well when Evans and Godwin are targeted. When the Bucs target other receivers, the place goes all to hell (are you paying attention Byron Leftwich?).

Verhei then adds this curious sentence.

If the Bucs are wise, they’ll say goodbye to Winston, in hopes of finding another quarterback who can let Evans and Godwin do what they do without making so many catastrophic mistakes.

Now that would be Lovie Smith stupid. Look, all the hollering about Jameis just about has Joe worn down. If people hate talented quarterbacks that much, fine. Just be careful what you wish for.

(Yes, this is proof the Mike Glennon Mob is fully alive — but hey, if that’s what people want… ).

Getting rid of Jameis isn’t something Joe would do unless you get someone better. Verhei types the Bucs should dump Jameis in the “hopes” you find someone better.

Hopes? Really???

Inept Lovie Smith got rid of Donald Penn in the hopes of finding someone better. The Bucs ended up with Anthony Collins.

Inept Lovie Smith got rid of Darrelle Revis in the hopes of finding someone better (nothing like upgrading a position by cutting a Hall of Famer). The Bucs ended up with Alterraun Verner and Mike Jenkins.

If the Bucs want to trade up in the draft and get a quarterback, OK, fine. Unloading a guy who is one of the top passers in the league in the “hopes” to find someone better walking the streets isn’t just dumb, but irresponsible.

As Raheem Morris once famously said, “I will tolerate you until I can replace you.”

But yeah — wait for it — Andy Dalton.

Jameis is still my QB. I heard some people were hoping he was seriously injured on Sunday. That’s beyond comprehension.

  5. Jim Says:

At least eight QBs drafted since 2015 are out-performing Winston. They are out there for the taking…

  6. BigHog Says:

2020…don’t be stupid all your life!!!

  7. Bculaw Says:

Bridgewater wouldn’t survive behind this offensive line, and throwing downfield into tight windows like Winston has been required to do. He’s not that type of QB – not many are.

I agree it is time to move on from Winston, but i’d Move on from the scheme, too. Puts too much demand on the o-line and the QB.

Move to shorter drops and more short and intermediate passes. Then, by all means, get Bridgewater.

Unless that is the plan, however, you should keep Winston short term as a stop gap, find 2 new tackles, and retool that defense.

  8. Bucfan33 Says:

Why is he great joe? You are what your record says you are… interceptions are the Achilles heal of any team and we always have to many. We will never make the playoffs with jameis so what is the point in having him on the team.if he was a second round or third round pick he would have already been benched. He is only playing because if he goes then that is the nail in the coffin for Jason light

  9. BigHog Says:

Jim…how many of the eight are with better teams?? Talk to me?

  10. Aceofaerospace Says:

It’s not so much that we want to get rid of Jameis, though some do, but don’t want to commit 20-30 million a year to him. In the days of unlimited salary cap, who cares, but that’s not the case anymore. We have too many holes to fill for that much cap money spent on the consistently inconsistent.

  11. Wombat Says:

I didn’t realize how many guys on this sight are privy to the playbook. You have no idea what plays are called in the huddle.

  12. RustyRhinos Says:

Joe is Winston’s QB winning percentage of 37.5% part of being a productive starter? Wouldn’t a starting QB with say a winning percentage of 45% be much much better? What about a winning percentage of 51%? Dont be dumb, right? Yeah it is the defense the ST the coaches the backup QB the RB, right? Wrong Jameis Winston is 24-40 that equals 37.5% wins with him as the starting QB. Is that a Winning %?
Has he yet learned those lessons he talks about after every multiple turnover game? We still “waiting for it “?

  13. SmoothBayRider Says:

@joe In an apples to apples comparison in 2018 , Winston got outplayed by Ryan Fitzpatrick. This year (5) , in 2019 he leads the league in interceptions . It doesn’t seem like it’d be too hard to find somebody better . But oh wait , passing yards .

  14. Robert Says:

I’d wager a backup from 3/4 of ANY of the other NFL teams would do a better job.

  15. J Says:

Joe, you just wrote about how Jameis has “hit his ceiling”. I get you write what is interesting to you but, why wouldn’t even you Joes be of the mind that it’s time to move on. Christensens’ comments were quite clear that this 5th year QB will be making the same decision making in year 10, 11, 12 etc. So logiclly, it’s not hasty to draft a new QB this coming year after 5 years of the same old Jameis has told us he just wont change.

2020: FAMOUS AINT GOING NOWHERE! GET USED TO IT!…WE NEED TO BUILD A BETTER TEAM AROUND HIM …KEEP BA …KEEP FAMOUE …KEEP GRINDING!!! A CHANGE WOULD DO WHAT? WE WILL STILL HAVE A BAD O LINE…SAME AS WITH A NEW COACHING STAFF…KEEP GRINDING!!!

  18. Bruce Blahak Says:

Irresponsible reporting! “Unloading a guy who is one of the top passers in the league in the “hopes” to find someone better walking the streets isn’t just dumb, but irresponsible.” >> FAKE NEWS!
    FACTS:
31st in completion percentage, #1 in interceptions, #1 in times sacked, 11 fumbles, 29th in QB rating, 24-40 career win/loss record

  19. Allbuccedup Says:

As long as Winston is the QB you will never get to the playoffs. Because he is inconsistent. At fsu his senior year he threw 18 ints. But he had an excellent team around him. Great QBs can carry a team through tough times this guy can’t.

  20. Touchdown, Tampa Bay Says:

What do we want? Touchdowns! Who do we want? Jamies!

  21. Mark Says:

Hate to say it. There’s a street free agent with a winning pedigree who protects the football and can probably be had for a couple years on the cheap. Audition him now.

  22. down in the dirt doug Says:

If Jameis will take a one year 15 million dollar prove it contract then we can try again.I do not think his agent will go for this deal.THERE IS A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT jAMEIS—–BUT AS THE DOCTOR AT THE HOSPITAL SAYS”ITS TIME TO PULL THE PLUG”.

  23. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Clueless Joe is inadvertently hilarious

  24. Allbuccedup Says:

Its time for a rebuild three years of 5-11. This team doesnt have the talent too reload. We should have been doing that this year. Grandpa smurf just sent this organization back two years.

  25. Slugglife Says:

    Street QB?

Pretty sure we have a backup QB that we haven’t seen on the field yet, but has been paid to be a backup and knows the current system, crappy as it may be.

And we already have a clown show going on. Pass.

  26. JustBucNwin Says:

It’s time to move on! There are several teams that have glaring holes on the roster, yet with solid and smart QB play, they are competitive and relevant in December! We can’t even be relevant in November…

  27. Irishtony Says:

This team can’t realistically sign and pay Winston (what the market will dictate) and hope to get better on defense; I.e., pursuing decent free agents. The team needs to start over at QB (find someone cheaper or he’ll give Griffin a shot) and reload the offensive, defensive lines and defensive backfield. I suppose they’ll draft a qb in the latter rounds.

  28. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Joe Burrow is the only QB worth taking in the draft , but Licht will not move up to get him.
It does not matter who you put at QB with the Oline we have.
ROJO gained 6 yards on 1st play , then BA totally abandons the run.
JW will be the 4th Bucs QB to win a Superbowl , just not here in Tampa.
Bucs miss 1st down machine Hump terribly , and Hunter Renfrow who was available when we took a kicker is doing well in Oakland.
Gruden mentioned in his presser that he has been very fortunate to coach in some of the most rabid fan cities. Gruden mentioned Notre Dame , Green Bay , Philly , and Oakland. Gruden however did not mention Tampa. That tells you all you need to know about the majority of Buc fans , a bunch of bandwagon buffoons.

  29. Coburn Says:

Yes you get rid of him in hoped you find someone better… there are never any guarantees. I see this rediculous notion that you have to sign him because you may not be able to find your qb until the draft after this one or because you don’t know what this draft will look like etc… if you already know the guy isn’t gonna ever take you to the superbowl why bother keeping him around? Even if that means possibly missing thr perfect opportunity this draft… even if you can’t replace him right away why keep a lame duck around another year? No one likes a mulligan year and I doubt we can’t at least takes a 2nd or 3rd Round guy st least and a vet but no reason to keep him either way put of playing scared

  30. crazyBucs_CL Says:

this should be the signature of all members here that are not blind like FSU fans, and Joe propaganda.
Above FACTS should start every post to counter weight the boring and pathetic signature:
“America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston”

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  31. Ndog Says:

This daily debate is getting old. Let’s just move on so he can have a great career elsewhere while we look for the next scapegoat to blame cause we suck out loud.

By the way the 1970’s called and they want their offense back.

  32. Ricordo Says:

I just spoke to Miss Cleo about what should be done to fix the Bucs and she says that questions like that make her consider giving up the practice. That there are easier ways to make a living.

  33. Bobby M. Says:

Andy Dalton went to the playoffs 4 yrs in a row……Dont tell me the Bengals are some exceptionally run franchise, they may literally have the cheapest owner in the NFL. And dont tell me Marvin Lewis is a more accomplished QB guru then Bruce Arians? Frankly, i see Dalton being a more effective game manager with the talent we have then Winston. We dont need exceptional “upside” or stats…..we need effective. Send Winston to Cincinnati, Washington, Miami and watch his turnovers explode to heights never seen before in NFL history. He’s not elevating any team with lesser talent.

  34. ou812 Says:

What makes me ILL is play of #3 for THE LAST FIVE YEARS!!!!!
I PAY FOR MY TICKETS DO YOU JOE???

  35. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Ricordo

Glad you asked!!!!!! What will it take??????? A new GM who knows what they are doing, and at least, TWO very good offseason moves and great drafts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But local media and a few sheep, want to hand over big bucks to the failed qb and rearrange the chairs on this titanic of a franchise!!!!!!!!!!! If they stay the current course, and then you see a mini re-build thru free-agency, they will draft a LT 1st round that is better than DS76 put will play him at RT, you will see only 5-6 wins, the team will crack under pressure again with the “Make it or Break it Season”!!!!! and wacky joe and a few sheep, and a couple of the FSU Robots will be the only to attend record low attendance at RJS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In other words, another wasted year in 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 revealed answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already knew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

    BUCS DEFENSE RANKS 31st
BUCS OLINE RANKS 29TH(HIGHEST PAID OLINE IN LEAGUE)

DO I REALLY FREAKING NEED TO GO ON???????????????????????????

    WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS ON OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT-END OF STORY

  37. SCBucsFan Says:

You should keep defending America’s Turnover Machine Joe; he’s leading the team to the things you want most, more losses and a better draft pick.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Jameis, despite his flaws, is leading this team to a top 5 in offensive production. You think another Glennon type QB or rookie is going to put up 30+ points a game? I want Jameis to play better, but any of your so called options will certainly lead to a worse record. Burrow was projected to be a 5th round pick coming into the year, is surrounded by top rate talent at LSU and has all day to pass back there. He and any other rookie QB in this draft class will be a bust with this line, lack of running and defense in Tampa. These things don’t happen in a vacuum fools. No QB will succeed with this team as currently constructed.

  39. richbucsfan Says:

And that, my Friends, is why Ray Jay is half empty. Hopefully attendance will be even lower to communicate to owners fans demand better.

  40. D-Rome Says:

Clearly irrational Joe wrote this especially when you consider there were *TWO* references to Lovie Smith. You know, the head coach that accomplished more with less in his last season than Dirk did in his last two seasons and what Arians will accomplish this season. In fact, I would argue that if you throw out the stats that Jameis’ best year was his rookie year.

As I’ve reminded you many times, Donald Penn and that entire offensive line was overpaid and they under performed the previous year. Darrelle Revis’ contract was bloated and he was not going to help the Bucs win games. Are you going to whine about Mark Barron too? The truth of matter is that over the span of this disastrous 5+ years there has been one person making the decisions and that’s Backstabbin’ Jason Licht.

The fact remains that even if you ignore his league leading turnovers what you have left is a QB that holds on to the ball too long, is indecisive, cannot read defenses, and is not crisp with his passes.

  41. 2020 What is the bucs future plan? Says:

    BigHog

jaymyth isnt worth 30 million a season…. that would be salary cap hell ….. he is worth 8 million ……..

  42. miken Says:

Verhei adds… “If the Bucs were wise”… The BUCS are Not wise so you can count on a franchise tag and a rerun of this all in 2020!!!

  43. zzbuc Says:

    Joe,
If you get sick because some fans critisize JW, you better take an aspirin men.
You are explaining why the bucs fail all the time and you keep JW isoltaed from the problem. You have a weird style on analisis men!!!
Bucs have plenty of problems and one is the QB position. No running game, bad OL, very bad secondary, that´s why we fail every single season.
I am not blamming JW for everything I am blamming him for incosistency. He can make plays nobody can do, good and bad ones!!!!!!!
The biggest prblem is on the GM JOE!!!!!
Sooner or later you have to face it or aknolowdge it!!!!
JW is an important part of a team who is bad……..He is not the only part who is not working, he is just ONE part!!!!!
    Americas QB…..Jesus H christ…..you just can´t get it!!!!!

  44. ou812 Says:

The play of #3 is not the only problem but it is the most glaring problem ! You JOE keep saying the INT’s are not all his / fault wrong routes by WR/ poor blocking it’s not his fault. BUT IT IS !!! A real leader would not put up with mistakes and have HIS offence unit ready to play on Sunday . But no one want’s to play FOR #3 FACT. So JOE stop your crying!!! He has made his on bed now time to lay in it. Like I told my ticket rep if #3 is hear I am not renewing!!!

  45. batman Says:

You know who else throws a lot of yards and a healthy number of TDs? Matt Stafford. Do you think we’re going to the Super Bowl with Matt Stafford + Double Interceptions?

PLENTY of other teams have bad offensive lines and nonetheless have QBs who don’t turn the ball over constantly. Did you know that Jameis is on pace for the NFL’s first 30-INT season since 1988? Hopefully we don’t have to tell Joe that the overall Interceptions numbers have gone way down since then (maybe by half per attempt) and that in today’s NFL, those types of turnover numbers are simply ungodly by the standards of any era.

  46. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Seriously Joe,

Drink ourselves into a coma if he leaves?

Drinking ourselves into a coma on Sundays because he’s here….

  47. Jmarkbuc Says:

And why trade up to get a QB?

We had the #1 pick and look what that got us. There are plenty of low cost QB’s that can get us to 5-11, probably with less turnovers.

I would rather lose with such a QB, while rebuilding the team, than pay JW and strain the cap further. Biggest problem is JLicht wouldn’t know how to do that.Clearly.

  48. BuccoBrucey Says:

lol this article is a crock. The jameis apologists are about as pathetic as they come. can’t wait to see this again after we lose the falcons on Sunday after he gives the ball away multiple times again

  49. miken Says:

“If the Bucs want to trade up in the draft and get a quarterback, OK, fine. Unloading a guy who is one of the top passers in the league in the “hopes” to find someone better walking the streets isn’t just dumb, but irresponsible.”…
Imagine if the Ravens thought like this. Yo cant pay top dollar to a qb who isn’t top level PERIOD. And if you aren’t comfortable paying #3 long term after5 years , then that’s a problem. Thinking year 5 will be different than year 6 is whats irresponsible. We got a bum off the street in Fitz last year and the offense was about the same! Jameis Cutler is like watching Vinny all over again

  50. bogiedr Says:

He throw more INT’s than Trent and Vinnie combined, enough said!!

  51. Armybucsfan Says:

For the People defending Winston because he is one of the most sacked QBs in the league there is a glaring reason for that. Winston has one of the slowest in the league with going through his progressions, his release reminds me of slugwich which is now our offensive coordinator lol. Not to mention how he stares down his receivers hahaha any decent nfl defensive back probably can’t sleep the night before playing Jameis because they are so excited that they will be gifted a pick 6 from jolly ol Saint Jameis. Lmao. If the pocket collapses Jameis needs to use his legs and not stand on the pocket of nothing is there. Instead he holds onto the ball and gets sacked, hurried and hit.

  52. BucHead588 Says:

Buc fans are a Fing Joke Jameis is a Back Up QB ya OK he is 3rd in the NFL in Passing yards an top 5 in Passing TDs an if our defense could hold teams to 3 TDs a game instead of 4-5!we would be in the Wildcard an Jameis Ints would be a lot lower he has had to throw the ball a lot more then Most QBs a real lot more I think if the Bucs can Get better on the Oline an run the ball more then 6 times a game Jameis wouldn’t be throwing 51 times a game he throws 2x more then most QBs in 1 game makes sense to se high INT numbers Jameis is Top Level QB on a Team with a lot of Holes

  53. Tom Edrington Says:

Jameis FOREVER! Who need a winning NFL franchise in their city?…..maybe, perhaps, one day, he’ll get the Bucs in position to be a solid 7-9 team!!!

  54. diggler Says:

Inept Lovie Smith got rid of Darrelle Revis in the hopes of finding someone better (nothing like upgrading a position by cutting a Hall of Famer). The Bucs ended up with Alterraun Verner and Mike Jenkins.

^^^Actually Joe Revis wanted out and even thanked the Glazers for letting him out of his contract but running him was terrible, they should have paid him double.

  55. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

  56. 813bucboi Says:

    resigning JW would be stupid….

after 5 years we still have the same question regarding his decision making….

    JW IS A BUST!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  57. MidwestBucsFan Says:

Getting rid of Jameis isn’t something Joe would do unless you get someone better.

I think the problem at this point is, a LOT of people are better.

But even with that said, they should honestly consider drafting a QB — and use the money they save with a cap friendly rookie year deal (versus paying Winston an estimated $20m- $30m per year) to fix other gaping holes the team needs to address.

  58. ben Says:

STOP with the excuses for Winston!!!.. He is listed as a way below average qb by the nfl ..(Fitz is rated better)

  59. bucsnole Says:

I think that Jameis is a flawed qb. However, smart coaches realize what a qb’s strength and weaknesses are and adjust their schemes to his skill set. Jameis has been playing the same way since high school and isn’t going to change. If you pay attention at all, he is lethal when he is forced out of the pocket and throws in the bootleg. Why hasn’t the offense been developed to accentuate this strength? Even though he looks like an ostrich when he runs, he is able to make plays with his legs. But no, we keep trying to fit that square peg in a round hole. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

  60. Jean Lafitte Says:

If they resign Jameis and he sucks in 2020 this Joe will be the most hated Joe in Tampa Bay for writing so many articles trying to scare the fans who wanted to move on. Instead of being a roadblock and protecting Jameis, start advocating for the fan. What is football without it’s fans. Careful what you wish for Joe. The Bucs are your lively hood and it would be a shame if they left Tampa Bay.

  61. Ricordo Says:

    @The Buc Realist

Glad you mentioned the Titanic. The following story is analogous to the Bucs’ situation:

It is said that half-an-hour before the Titanic sank, the loudspeakers announced that even though the gift shops on decks 1 thru 9 had sustained water damage, the Grand Gift Shop on Boat Deck amidship was having a 90% off regular-price sale on select merchandise like “I Love Titanic” coffee mugs and t-shirts.

Yes, I also have the disturbing feeling that 2020 is going to be a repeat of 2019.

  62. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’m all for going with a mobile QB and going with a college style offense. Is working for Baltimore. It got the 49ers to a super bowl during the harbaugh days. Kyler Murray isn’t looking bad.

  63. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Buchead

“if our defense could hold teams to 3 TDs a game instead of 4-5!”

Does that include the turnovers on our side of the field or in the red zone, that lead to quick scores? How about the pick sixes?

  64. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

BUH BYE America’s Grop……errrr, Quarterback !!!! Cannot happen soon enough.

  65. down in the dirt doug Says:

We have to stop thinking Jameis will go to another team and be a winner.Hope he succeeds—but it’s not happening here.WE NEED THE MONEY TO REBUILD –THANKS AGAIN– OVERPAYING LICHT

  66. 813bucboi Says:

how are we suppose to fix the roster if JW is making 30mil a year?….

and resign some of our key players?….

    let JW walk…

    GO BUCS!!!

  67. stpetebucsfan Says:

You guys have pretty much summed it up. In fact it started with the very first post from Doosh. Couldn’t agree more.

So here we are talking a new QB…a retread who is competent…like Dalton…Bridgewater…or a new kid from the draft.

We could actually try both unless the journeyman expects too much money.

The draft…Everybody brings up Brady because the GOAT was selected in the 6th round!!!

But that was long ago and a total bolt out of the blue…IE LUCK

More recently however…Russell Wilson goes in the third round…
    Gardner Minshew went in the 6th round..178th overall…I’m not saying he’s a “franchise” QB…I am saying he’s played as well or better as JW…with 14 FEWER INTS…in 9 games to JW’s 10.

Closer to home…we selected MG8 in the 3rd round. There are many here who believe NOT that MG8 is a better QB than JW…but that he could have managed games better and he certainly is far more accurate and can actually spin the ball with his larger hands and skill set. JW has better raw arm strength.
Bottom line is that some here believe our W-L would have been better with MG8 but his upside is nowhere near what JW “APPEARS” to have.

I say this not to bring out the MG8 mob or debate WHICH QBs in the league are better than JW.

I would simply suggest that perhaps we need to reconsider the position. Perhaps hitting a double is just as effective as hitting a homer IF we build a great team.

I love Brad Johnson…but he Dilfer..Flacco…these guys are doubles not homers…and of course they all won SB’s.

I can’t believe I’m saying this…but sometimes you just have to face the truth. D.R. perhaps has infected my brain!!!

This franchise greatest years were built on DEFENSE!

Perhaps we should “settle” at QB and turn our attention to completing the rebuild of our D. We have key pieces in place but we obviously need more. Still if you look at Vea and White we have a great start up the middle.

  68. Countrybrew Says:

I agree with most of the bad stuff said about Jameis and I would love to get a better QB. Problem is I only see one decent one coming out of college this year who will surely go to Cincinnati at the first pick. I would almost bet that Jameis gets tagged or a one year prove it deal.

  69. SteveK Says:

Easily replaceable. Come on Joe. Wake up and smell the turnovers. You’re hilarious, much like the Freemanite mindset you adopted. You marry the QB and not the team. That’s your problem.

  70. Adrnagy Says:

It’s easy for you to talk you’re not the one under center taking a wack.

Here you go ,” if “ There’s a lot qb better than Jameis out there. Why haven’t them have #1 offense passing , two receivers over 1000 yards ?

Jameis has shown with protection or avg. he shreds defenses.

Bottom line is this, all qb will have int. Everygame. But those “good” qb have a defense or rb that will take the negative view off them. And ended up with a W. Here in Tampa we have a bad team.

  71. Joe Says:

Problem is I only see one decent one coming out of college this year who will surely go to Cincinnati at the first pick.

    Bengals could draft Chase Young.

  72. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Going to be some good free agwnts this year. Sign one then draft one

  73. Buc4evr Says:

It’s really hard to tell how good or bad Jameis is. The defense is terrible and the o-line is a sieve that can’t handle a bull rush. On top of that the play calling doesn’t adjust to the opponents defense and we fail to take advantage of the other teams weaknesses. I’m not sure getting rid of Jameis will make any difference one way or another. The Saints exposed a lot of players last week and we have a lot of guys that simply shouldn’t be starters. So get rid of Jameis, but it’s likely not going to improve the team and may make them even worse.

  74. Mike Johnson Says:

AHhhhh how Wonderful….Losers laments and comments. Honey pick me up a couple bottles of scotch for Sundays Buc Game, Ohhh and stop by medical supplies and pick me up an…IV.

There will be more than 1 QB from the 2020 NFL Draft to be a winner and lead his team to the playoffs.

    Sad my guy!!! So sad.

    FIRE 🔥 LICHT

  76. BrianBucs Says:

Apparently Ray Charles has hacked Joe’s sight again.

  77. Pewter power Says:

Without trading up we will not get the quarterback of choice and it will be let’s settle for this guy and hope it works out. BA wont let him make an unknown gamble like that when he knows winston can run his offense. He will at least be franchised.

I want another quarterback to but you guys are some idiots thinking we are a quarterback away from the playoffs but ok ignorance is bliss so you cant tell people they have to see it form themselves and believe me there are a bunch of posters who will be telling you to stfu about turnovers and errors when a rookie is under center

  78. MTM Says:

Joe the get rid of Winston crowd is just basing their position based off their eyes. Winston throws stupid picks, can’t hang onto the ball, throws into triple coverage and runs like Ronald McDonald. The O-line isn’t great but Winston holds onto the ball far too long. Winston burns 1-2 plays per possession and ends up in 3rd and long. This put enormous pressure on the O-line with all the blitzes. Winston will never master in play problem solving. It always looks like junkyard football when the play breaks down. Russell Wilson makes Winston look like a special needs athlete.

  79. CPN Says:

I know you have disdain for the PFF Tribe, Joe.

However, Donald Penn was graded the best at left tackle this weekend. Why didn’t we keep him?

  80. RealityCheck Says:

Would it really be that INSANE to think that another QB could come in and manage 3 win seasons? The bar set by JW is pretty low.

  81. ElBajito43 Says:

    So let’s think about this???
Who wants to trust “Trash” Licht with 2nd and 3rd round picks
Fatso can’t even draft 1st round picks consistently
    WHY NOT TRADE UP??
    go get Joe Burrow WTF

  82. ElBajito43 Says:

Other scenario is move up for CHASE at DE
THEN GRAB A QB IN 3rd round like Jalen
    Keep Winny 1 more season

  83. jmarkbuc Says:

Sign a journeyman, if he can fog a mirror he prolly won’t throw as many pics as JW.

Draft a QB in rounds three or four. Joe Montana was a third rounder.

Trade our #5 overall for more picks. We got plenty of needs, take your pick.

If we are getting quality players.(big if..see Licht, Jason), I’m ok with going 5-11 one more year. We can do that with JW so I see no problem doing it without him.

  84. Buczilla Says:

Geez, we can suck without Jameis and save the 30 plus million that young franchise qb’s make annually. Jameis is not a a franchise qb so why keep f’ing around with this guy? Get a young, cheap qb and build this team the right way. Of course if Licht is still around to help in the decision making (most likely) then the point is moot and I’ll just look forward to a new start when he is gone. Gosh damn menace to our roster’s future. I “almost” envy Bengals fans, but their front office/ownership situation is even worse with Mike Brown.

  85. whaaatttsss uuuup Says:

one of the top -passers in the league!!!! lmao!!!!

  86. Buccernutter Says:

You summoned the idiots again Joe.

    Dumbest fan base in sports.

Getting rid of jameis will set us back another few years just to realize ol and defense was the problem all along.

  87. SteveK Says:

    Buccernutter,

Please elaborate how this team could be worse without Jameis? We picked too 5 with him last year and picked 9th the year before. We don’t win. He turns it over more than anyone on earth.

  88. #1bucfan Says:

I’m with you joe. #3 hasn’t had enough time with the QBwhisper yet. I know he’s had 5 years but it wasn’t with a Coach who could develop him mentally. I’m tired like the rest of y’all with all the turnovers.

  89. SteveK Says:

Fans don’t have time for more experiments and failures. Win or be gone

  90. ArmandoG Says:

Of top 11 NFL teams in RUN %
    NONE have a losing record
    & are a combined 74-37

Of top 11 teams in PASS %
ALL but one has a losing record
    & are a combined 36-76-1

    Jameis Winston & #Bucs
    have 6th highest PASS %
    & 6th lowest RUN %

  91. Buccernutter Says:

How could this team be worse without jameis? HA!

You will find out soon enough if you get your wish.

In the past week, Clyde Christensen, Cameron Brate, Jude Adjei Barimah, Bruce Arians, and about 5 other ESPN analysts have gone on record and in some instances provided detailed explanations as to why he’s the least of our worries but you guys got it all figured out.

Please guys scare away Jameis and get ready to use another premium pick on something other than our biggest issues.

    WE CAN WIN WITH JAMEIS!

  92. Buc4evr Says:

This team is so bad even Tom Brady couldn’t save them from their own stupidity. So let’s dump Jameis so he can win a Super Bowl with another team. Don’t laugh, It has happened before to the Bucs – three times. In the meantime let’s draft a new QB so we have even more to complain about when he fails.

  93. RustyRhinos Says:

Winston with HIS 24-40 WIN-LOSS record as a starting NFL QB says differently Buccernutter. No, he is not the only player we put out there on game days. But he has the starting position of QB, with the “franchise” label attached to him due to his #1 draft choice. So yes those pesky responsibilities of WINS are on his throwing shoulder. With his lack of ball security, and not very good passing locations in games. He is just not all that. He is what his record says he is a fifth season starting QB who has a 24-40 record and is also the leader by 25 + interception since his draft year 2015. And for the record I want to WIN not just have a player with great stats. In the last game who’s QB totals would you rather have as our QB? 300+ yards or 230 yards? One had 2 TD’s and the other had 3, one had 4 INT’s and the other had a goose egg. Is the point of playing these games about leading the league in stats? Or leading the league in WINS?

  94. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

I was ill when they drafted a quarterback #1 overall who by all indications got away with raping a girl. Prove me wrong and I’d be very happy frankly.

  95. Jameis Almighty! Says:

This fan base would boo Brady or Mahomes or Lamar Jackson if they were qb.

  96. SteveK Says:

This offense would turn the ball over less with those guys and in fact all three combined have less INT than Jameis.

Then, our defense would be better because their would be four less pick sixes.

  97. Wesley Says:

Stop the denial! Jameis ain’t the guy!

  98. Lamarcus Says:

Yea let’s dump JW and lets a get a new Qb dink and donk guy and lose games 42-10. Makes perfect sense

  99. Buccernutter Says:

    Rusty

With all due respect, that’s just lazy analysis.

Wins/Losses are not a QB stat.

Let’s see how our next qb does with 36 sacks in 10 games and a 32nd ranked passing defense. Should be fun.

  100. SteveK Says:

We scored just fine with Fitzmagic last year. A 17 year vet, 7th round draft pick.

Don’t assume another QB would do well with mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Those two are the best 1-2 punch at we in the game.

Imagine if we didn’t have those guys. Then we’d be screwed and would score nearly as much.

  101. lambchop Says:

This is the love-struck Joe. The one that thinks Jameis throws, catches his own balls, and scores his own passing TDs. We got play makers on offense and the QB is a small part of that. Godwin taking a clear ball heading for the dirt to the house is all praise to Jameis? Oh my God, look at those yards and TDs!!! It’s all the QB’s doing!!!

SMH at what real stupidity looks like. If you can’t understand how Chis and Mike make Jameis look half as good on a part-time basis, then you shouldn’t be writing about football.

  102. ElBajito43 Says:

    Jameis Winston Sucks Bro

  103. July Joe Says:

The Bucs shot-callers are nowhere near as stupid as many local fans and national media … Jameis will be franchised at worst and signed to a 2-3 year deal at best … BANK ON IT.

  104. ElBajito43 Says:

Yeah who cares that’s not news. We know that the Glazers have no backbone and caved in to “Trash” Licht. Same losers who owe money to like 3 coaches still or some $h!T

  105. SteveK Says:

    July Joe,

Fans aren’t stupid for have a differing opinion. As it stands right now, you are guessing if Jameis will be franchise tagged. If I had to guess, I would say the majority of fans are in camp “no”.

Jameis needs to play better all the points and yards don’t mean diddly when you giveaway the football more than anyone in this offensive friendly era of football.

  106. Buccernutter Says:

    SteveK

We did not score just fine with Fitz. We scored just fine for 2 maybe 3 games and he sucked the entire rest of the season. He was worse than jameis, and it wasn’t very close.

    Come on man…

  107. Kansas95Buc Says:

…why is it that we have the same issues every year with different coaches? #WeNeedAnswers
