Best One-Two Punch

November 5th, 2019

Yes, with the Bucs circling the drain riding a 2-6 record, there is a lot of finger-pointing. And deservedly so.

But how about a little praise, eh? Man, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was right on the money with this one.

Yeah, it stunk to see slot receiver Adam Humphries walk out the door. He was productive. But Arians barely touched his first glass of scotch as Bucs coach when he deemed Chris Godwin to be his slot receiver and let Humphries win the lottery elsewhere.

And how smart of a move was that? Godwin has totally blown up and is one of the best receivers in the game. Combined with the best receiver in Bucs history, Mike Evans, who is putting up Hall of Fame numbers, and the duo is tearing apart the NFL.

How good have Evans and Godwin been? Well, Joe will let hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistMike Florio-arguingparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training, Budweiser-tolerant, baseball scorecard-keeping social activist Peter King of NBC Sports explain just how good the Bucs’ bunch is.

Sentence I never thought I’d write: There isn’t a better 1-2 receiving combination playing better right now than Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

But King is right. Whoever dreamed the Bucs would have the best one-two punch this side of a Keith Thurman combo? The best one-two punch in the NFL. At receiver?

It seems like another world.

And who exactly is throwing passes to Evans and Godwin, Andy Dalton?

Which is why we need a QB that can take advantage of the best pass catching talent in Buc history….speaking of history I was at a seance last night and asked the Ouija board a question about Jameis and the Bucs….the letters spelled out…
Terri Schiavo says give Jameis one more year

  2. Aceofaerospace Says:

Well, for 8 more games, it’ll be Jameis. Evans helped Johnny Football win a Heisman. Maybe Evans should’ve gotten that trophy.

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Wish the bucs would have hired chucky when they had the chance to revere the curse….

  4. Marlow1976 Says:

I will point fingers… the finger points and wags at ownership, the GM, and the scouting department. The next finger points to the carousel of coaches and their lack of ability to develop players. The last finger is pointed at the fans from the Buc’s organization, and it is a middle finger. We get the middle finger from the lumps that run this clown show of an organization.

  5. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Think how much better Evans and Godwin will be when we’re 2-14.

  6. BrianBucs Says:

    Agree with King, for once.

If Winston didn’t have Evans to use his big body and strength to reel in all of Winston’s inaccurate throws and underthrown jump balls, he may be working at Publix by now.

Evans does for Winston what he did for Johnny Football. Makes him look good when he isn’t.

Winston should thank the Football God’s every night that he has Evans to throw to.

  7. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Ans still we lose and still no playoff, so what does that tell you?

  8. miken Says:

How are they the best one two punch? I thought all the INT’s were because they ran the wrong routes?

  9. Bradinator Says:

I love Evans and wanted Godwin on draft day. I’m just wondering how long before Evans blows up at the secondary and gives one them shaken baby syndrome? Seriously, the guy busts his butt week in, week out and they are wasting him and Godwin. Everyone should be watching these two guys rip it up, but they play for the Bucs. 1 National TV game a year, and it’s likely they’ll be blacked out locally since there is no way they sell out for the rest of season. I will stupidly waste $30-40 at a bar in Denver to watch them bungle away another game. At least I get to see the best WR to ever play for us. It’s my consolation prize. Like instead of winning at “Wheel of Fortune”, I just end up with the “home version” instead a big prize.

  10. DBS Says:

I would not be surprised to see Both of them wanting out of here because of this defense. Evans has to be tired of this losing and redoing his contract for this clown show.

  11. miken Says:

@db5… I agree with you. #13 has given so much and I’m sure is sick of losing and knows he could win somewhere else and knows he would be the leagues #1 WR with a good qb.

  12. This is our year!!! Says:

I’m convinced they are good that a below average QB (Jameis) can come in and appear to have the potential to be top 10. Imagine how good they would be with Russell Wilson, plus they have Howard.

  13. ben Says:

Winston will make a fine back up qb someplace else.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Bradinator

30 to 40 dollars to watch a complete bucs game… well that’s your problem pal…. you can survive a bucs game until that tab is closer to the 100 / 125 range minimum…. up your game and pick up the pace maybe the bucs will…

  15. tmaxcon Says:

jameis haters are almost as ignorant as dungy nuthuggers…. just as blind…

  16. FanO’Bucs Says:

It’s a fact Winston isn’t the issue why we have lost games.

I get if you don’t like Jameis. To talk about him like he’s some scrub it’s foolish.

Do fans not remember the decades of horrendous qb’s we had here?

Wanna go back to that? There are no assurances moving on from Jameis, but that you’re letting a historic passer for this BAD org walk

  17. 813bucboi Says:

so mike evans has made johnny football and JW…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. BROCKTACULAR Says:

    Altered..Dude, that’s not funny at all…

  19. Sleepy903 Says:

For those of you that think Mike Evans got Johnny Football a Heisman you clearly don’t watch college football. Johnny Footballs legs and ability to improvise on broken plays won him the Heisman.

Also don’t forget Winston got both Hump and Brate payed. Neither were drafted.

Doesn’t matter who’s throwing the ball honestly because the secondary is horrible. Wouldn’t take much for most QB’s to catch back up and carve our secondary up and score 14-21 quick points to comeback in win in the 4th quarter. But yeah lets keep blaming JW. Maybe he can cover Tyler Lockett, Engram and Shep and Micheal Thomas

  20. Ivan Aviles Says:

Isn’t the fact that an extension has not been made tell us something? I think they are waiting to see what is available and what draft # we get to make a decision. If we resign ATM it will be for 1-2 years and as an Afterthought

  21. Lamarcus Says:

    This is easy

Mike “meaningless stats” Evans gets most of his stats because of loses. It don’t mean anything when your losing. Garbage time stats lol

  22. miken Says:

@fanobucs… No one talks about Jameis like he’s scumb. People talk about him like he has more turnovers than any other qb in a 5 year span. That’s it , nothing personal. You cant win in the nfl if your qb leads the league in turnover and is inconsistant. If he didn’t go to fsu, you wouldnt have a section of the fan base justifing every turnover. Do you think giant fans are waking up this morning talking about daniel jones and saying, hey he turned it over 3 time but thats not on him, he isn’t the biggest issue bc the giants gave up 37 points. lol

  23. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

    Jameis is getting extended.

  24. Robert Says:

stop with this nonsense………JW only has the mental capacity to see 2 targets.

cut him, and we can turn the corner

    Jameis is getting extended.

jameis agent owes it to his client to get jameis out of tamap at all costs. can’t win in tampa… the small market irrelevant franchise with glazers does not even to attempt to compete. history proves it…. outside of the 1 year wonders fluke championship this franchise has sucked….

  26. unbelievable Says:

Why is this so crazy or hard to believe? Talk about sensationalism…

Maybe you forgot we had D-Jax and ME the last 2 years before that? While him and Jameis never fully got on track, (and DJ was a cancer) that was also the top, or a top 1-2 WR duo as well.

And before that we had V-Jax and Evans. And before that we had V-Jax and Mike Williams.

So we’ve had some top talent at our #1 and #2 WR positions for a while.

The problem is we’ve had inconsistency on the o-line and at QB the entire time, (and at RB), so the full potential has never been realized / maximized.

  27. stpetebucsfan Says:

Like 87 I’ll forever be grateful for the SB but Chucky is a slightly better than average coach and like 87 I think he’ll struggle in Las Vegas.

Gruden was 45-51 or six games UNDER .500 in his career with the Bucs AFTER that one SB.

His career record is 102-97-.513 not exactly HOF level.

  28. Cgmaster27 Says:

@BRIANBUCS keep telling yourself that. I love how the anti jameis crowd believe that every pass jameis throws isnt perfect. But ofcourse every other qb in the league has pin point accuracy. Youre probably one of the dim whits who blamed the seattle loss on jameis.

  29. Upthecreekwithoutapaddle Says:

    TMAXCON:
I think the Bucs should franchise Jameis and try to hold on to him and evans awhile before letting them go.Losing does suck but both are still young .Give arians one more year to get at least to a wild card game.
As sad as 2-6 is,the fact of the matter is this team would easily be 6-2 if the totally fixed secondary actually was just avg.To many rookies and too high a learning curve.
Why the bucs sat on their hands during the trade period is probably due to the cap numbers.
Order of need is left .
tackle, move DS to right tackle ,Lockdown corner, edge rusher, Backup qb .
1ST week Nov and talking about the draft sucks too.

    Upthecreekwithoutapaddle Says

i wish i shared your faith… let these young men escape they have suffered long enough in Tampa. set them free

  31. Barbosa Says:

Simple formula: how many points does your offense average per game? Oh you are in the top ten? Great no problem there.

How many points does your defense give up on average? Oh you are next to last?

Well then you have a bad TEAM. How many years did the Saints miss the playoffs while having Brees light it up? Why? The defense sucked until they started drafting to make it better.

  32. Robert Says:

F ME and F JW…..spread the ball around!

  33. Allbuccedup Says:

Licht and Arians the real one two punch. They are going to drive this franchise straight to the graveyard.

  34. lambchop Says:

    @Barbosa,

Are you really comparing Brees to Jameis? C’mon man. One is a HOFer and the other will eventually be Josh Freeman’s best friend.

  35. LordCornelius Says:

The only thing Licht has really accomplished in 6 years – some decent pass catchers.

Too bad he couldn’t hit on the run game, O-line, defense, or special teams.

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

Somewheres there are some ex0buc coaches named Schiano, lovie. Dirk and Smitty going, See..I told you this franchise was jinxed!

  37. KC Says:

    @BrianBucs

*If Winston didn’t have Evans to use his big body and strength to reel in all of Winston’s inaccurate throws and underthrown jump balls, he may be working at Publix by now.*

Due to crab thievery, he would not be working at Publix. Long John Silver’s maybe? Otherwise, agreed.

  38. 541BucsFan Says:

Is anyone (besides Joe) on the crazy train that thinks JW has anything to do with Evans and Godwin being superstars.

Those two made Fitz look like a ProBowler last year.

You got it twisted, Joe. JW is out of the league years ago without Evans.

  39. Billy_45 Says:

Mike Evans is the prototypical NFL wide reiever now that Megatron has retired. Seriously the best receiver in the game now that he has found speed too. That Marcus Peters touchdown was another level.

Godwin reminds me of Marvin Harrison.

Gotta find a defense quick which is why I wanted Ramsey.

But if we need a QB now which is more important?

2-14 insures a pretty good one!!!!!

Damn, play Griffin and move on.

  40. Capt. Tim Says:

Evans made Manzel look like a QB.
    Nuff said

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

Jerry Rice made Montana look good as well. All good wr helps there quarterback look good. You guys hate this guy so much that the things you guys say doesn’t make sense at all . Payton had Marvin Harris and Reggie Wayne they helped him look good as well what happened before he had those guys. I hope we get another quarterback and we drop from top 5 offense to bottom ranked offense then I’m going to laugh at all you stupid fantasy football people that don’t know nothing about football. Lol lol lol lol . Cause ain’t no quarterback is going to help this team win. Our defense sucks our offensive line sucks. Look what happened Sunday another game was lost after scoring over 30 points and you guys only looking at the quarterback. Ok stupid fans base that don’t know nothing about football lol lol lol lol !!!!

  42. #1bucsfan Says:

Defense wins championships plain an simple doesn’t matter how good your offense is if your defense can stop anything.

  43. Bucs96 Says:

It’s sooo funny to me when the media goes out its way to praise all parties involved. So if Bridgewater was QB we are saying the same thing about these WRs, Andy Dalton, Goff, Jimmy G, etc…

WE NEED A DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to cover ppl!!!!!!!! Why are we talking about anything else other than that. Because ppl don’t personally like Jameis, that’s why!

Guy threw for 300+ 2 TD & scores 30+ points. Still we highlight a fumble (that wasn’t his fault) in the 4th qrt of a tied game

How about how the defense allows the Seahawks to go down the field in like 15-20 secs to miss a game winning field goal!!!!!
