Best No More

November 20th, 2019

Run defense suffered.

Even the emergence of rookie linebacker Devin White as a tackling machine couldn’t keep the Bucs in their lofty position as the NFL’s best run defense.

That’s what happens with you are owned in every way possible by the Saints as the Bucs were last week.

Tampa Bay entered the game with an elite run defense, best in the NFL.

In a passing league.

But after the Saints got through with them and the Week 11 games concluded, the Bucs dropped to second-best in the NFL in run defense. The Bucs hold opponents to an average of 80.9 yards a game.

Still, one would think with such a good run defense, the Bucs would at least be average in defense, right? Especially with the second-leading sacker in the game, Shaq Barrett, right? Nope.

The Bucs secondary is such a total sieve — haven’t we read and heard that phrase enough the past three seasons? — it drags the entire defense down to 23rd in the NFL allowing 371.8 yards a game.

Sad!

I watched Suh loaf out there and give very little effort in tackling Kamara.

Gerald McCoy is having a better year which is no surprise.

While they dropped out of 1st for run defense, They did climb to first in another category!!!!! Points Allowed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giving up 31.7 is the top in the NFL!!!!!!!!!!! The toilet bowls defense has been exposed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    and for those keeping score!!!!!!!!!!!

Loser Frazier 25.6 Points Allowed per Game (16 games)
Loser Lovie – 26.1 Points Allowed per Game (16 games)

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We don’t need Suh next year…..should draft a DT in round 1 and RT in round 2 or vice-versa depending on player availability.

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

I laugh when I hear the argument Suh is better than GMC. Suh is just smarter. He’s a bounty hunter who plays for the highest price. Watch him Houdini next yr to the highest bidder. But then again fellow plank walkers we do live..A BucLife Baby! Embrace the suck.

  5. John Sinclear Says:

Let’s just draft another corner !

  6. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Yea let me go out and take a chance and tear my ACL for this season ahhhhhhhh NO THANKS!!

  7. 813bucboi Says:

how many of those yards come after a JW turnover?…..

dont blame the defense for having to defend a short field….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  8. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

saints scored after every TO sunday…..

cant blame the defense for JWs turnovers and pick6’s….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. Adrnagy Says:

    Let’s bring back Simeon rice.

  10. Jean Lafitte Says:

First game all season the Bucs defense struggled against the run and Joe is making a big deal out of it. Let’s put the blame where it really belongs.
    The poorly led Winston offense

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

the only think i “realize” is that you’ll never admit smitty was a loser and your father!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. Adrnagy Says:

Suh and gmc are avg. their prime has long pass. Licht should sign zadarius smith or Preston. Trade 2rounder on frank clark or dee ford. Easy.
Just like the screw up drafting oj Howard. And passing cook or tjwatt. Both needs versus Howard. After dropping brate extension.

  13. Bradinator Says:

They spent a TON of time on the field it seemed like. Turnovers killed us in more ways than bad field position, a D on the field that much ain’t good. Add in the D isn’t very good to start with, recipe for disaster. Doesn’t much matter if they cannot run against us, they just throw the ball all the time. This D can’t seem to stop anyone through the air The run issue is distant 2nd to abysmal pass D. You’d think the DB’s play like they are in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, back way up before they come out and run away like heck when charge at you.

  14. Adrnagy Says:

We have 1-6 picks. 100M cap space this off season. Let’s see how we are going to improve.
I wouldn’t doubt it Licht will sign Perriman to a extension. Having Justin Watson.

  15. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Since I believe BA is bringing Winston back I completely agree with you, Tampabaybucfan.

We should be going for either a direct replacement for Dotson at RT or if possible find that special LT and move Smith over as the replacement.

I expect Suh to be gone so we will need to find the best available attempt to replace his role in the draft for coming years.

We should also find one worthwhile veteran cornerback and one worthwhile veteran safety either in free agency or by trade.

January first represents the beginning of year two of the REBUILD under Bruce Arians.

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan and JimboBucsfan

You guys are close, But the Truth has already been prophesied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

” then you see a mini re-build thru free-agency, they will draft a LT 1st round that is better than DS76 but they will play him at RT because DS76 will whine and complain that he can only play LT, you will see only 5-6 wins, the team will crack under pressure again with the “Make it or Break it Season”!!!!! and wacky joe and a few sheep, and a couple of the FSU Robots will be the only to attend record low attendance at RJS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In other words, another wasted year in 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “

  17. doctor_berto Says:

White is a tackling machine 6-7 yards down the field, WOW!

  18. TOM Says:

OT in first two rounds. Nuff said.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

kick d.smith inside and play him at guard….see if cappa can RT….

regardless, we need to draft 2 OLs and 2 DLs….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. TOM Says:

Lazy ass D Smith would either play RT or be gone. Simple as that.

  21. DB55 Says:

    813

Per mark cook – Carson Palmer threw 22 ints and still won 10 games. Cards def gave up 19 ppg dispite the turnovers.

  22. DB55 Says:

    813

I assume you were around during the championship run when the QBs would throw a pick and the def would just get the ball right back and sometimes they’d score too. I’m just saying there’s no rule stopping the def from well playing def. Ijs

  23. Bradinator Says:

Coming out of college most the experts were projecting Smith as an OG. It surprised me then that the Bucs put him out at LT. Kinda surprises me he’s still there. He’d be a better guard than he is an LT. Wonder what the chances are of us trading him off and rolling the dice on a draft pick? Save some cap money, and maybe get something better (that’s a big maybe, I know). RT is a must for next year.

  24. NPRSageBoy Says:

Why do I even waste my time following this sorry team?

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    db55

that carson stuff goes out the window because carson led the bengals to the playoffs in 2005 and 2009….

carson was a well established QB before he got with BA….

    your comparing apples to oranges….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!
