Typical Bucs

Respect not flowing

No, this is not a slam on our beloved Buccaneers.

At 2-2, Tampa Bay fans are excited.

But it’s worth noting that 13 teams across the NFL are 2-2. That illustrates what a balanced start the league has had in 2019, as well as just how critical Sunday’s Bucs-Saints game will be.

If the Bucs win, they will be in first place at 3-2 with a 2-0 division record. If they lose, they’ll be looking up at a load of clubs with a true must-win game against the Panthers to follow.

NFL.com columnist and SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio host Adam Schein ranked the top 9 teams with 2-2 records yesterday and, well, he couldn’t put the Bucs in that group. They didn’t make the cut.

Joe is monitoring more disrespect for the Bucs across the nation. In Los Angeles, Joe is hearing chatter about how Rams QB Jared Goff allegedly had his worst game in years despite throwing for 517 yards. They’re killing him for missing wide open receivers and a bad interception to Lavonte David without any pass rush in his face. Little respect for the Bucs offense.

Chris Myers, who called the game for FOX and is rather neutral as the voice of Buccaneers preseason games, was telling SiriusXM NFL Radio this week about how the Rams defense looked like it got old overnight. Myers certainly appeared to lean more toward like he was watching a Rams letdown than a Bucs ass-whoopin’.

Joe understands the trend toward disrespecting the Bucs. They earned it. But Joe sure hopes the Bucs find their way to at least a 3-3 record as they hit their bye week. That should pull in more national respect, which means little but is an awful lot of fun to soak in.

Joe – You think it’s bad there, you should see what we get, supposedly in Buc Country. The Ft. Myers Snooze-Press wrote it up as the Bucs just barely got by ! It was a Rams let-down.

  2. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Who cares?

Real fans know this team kicks us in the bits 9-11 times a year with awful losses on average

Can’t expect national media who only care about the big market franchises to change their opinions based on one win.

Keep winning and respect will come.

    Go Bucs!!!

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Respect is earned. Remember the bucs on a roll a few years ago and then go into Dallas and look like crap to the nation? Thats bucs history on the national level, being very consistent at losing on the big stage.

  4. DBS Says:

Jameis had an excellent game as did the team. But the defense is still a problem. I said last week the Rams were beatable after watching them play the Browns with their makeshift defense from all their injuries. The only reason they won that game was Baker Mayfield. But their defense held them to 20 points. So Touchdowns not Field goals is what it takes . Because even backup qb’s can make this team look bad if history run continues as it has.

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

The Rams got there A’s handed to them..point blANK. no excuses. We beat them..period. And they know it. It was a shootout. We just lasted longer. Now, If we can beat them, Saints? We might have something here. But we’ve all been down this road before. Bucs need to string along some consecutive wins for the national media to take them seriously. Its possible. We just have to do it guys. I love the fact our Bucs reveived a lot of extra coverage on Sportscenter and the NFl network this week. See what winning does?

  6. Buccfan37 Says:

Put those bags back on Saints fans heads. Go Bucs!

  7. Rayjay1122 Says:

Screw 3-3. Lets go 4-2 into the bye week! Killer instinct needs to be adopted around these here parts.

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

I noticed Winston has been wearing a clear helmet visor and that he has not been squinting. Did he get his eyes fixed or something?

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

  10. #1bucsfan Says:

Joe we need to beat the saints an prob a few more playoff teams before we start to get a little bit of respect which is needed or even maybe a few wining seasons at least before I can give them respect. I give them props for bullying the rams now keep it going Tampa.

  11. miken Says:

    can’t let down this week!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Bucs played the largest two media markets two weeks in a row

One week embarrassed themselves by losing a 18 point lead

Next week punks a Super Bowl team

They are a inconsistent team that can’t handle success. They need to prove it on a weekly basis to get respect

  13. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Joes: it’s “insults.” Better and shorter than “disrespect.” SOS media wise. Bucs fans are used to it. Dogfight Sunday at 1 in NOLA-land. Word. Go Mighty Bucs!!

  14. TeethingBrat Says:

We’ll need a muscle hamster to win this game.

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

Godwin should be the nfc offensive player of the week.

  16. bucs4ya Says:

Lets go and beat the Saints then the media will say if Brees was there it would’ve been a different story. Bucs have just got to become consistent at winning and the respect will come. Although when that happens I say give a big middle finger to the media and just win games. It was great walking out of that stadium with my Bucs jersey on with my head held HIGH. Drove to a gas station an hour north of the stadium, get out and a Rams fan gets out of his car sees me puts his head down walks up to me shakes my hand and says great game. Lets go Bucs stackem.

  17. Pewter power Says:

That’s just how media works local and national. The bucs were supposed to get blown out and when something doesn’t fit the narrative the writer thinks in their head they create an alternate universe for their logic. Which is why so many local media are not admitting they gave bucs no chance also. It is what it is, they know no fans will go back and fact check. It works because so many allow you to think for them.

  18. Bruce Blahak Says:

Win Sunday and the division is very much in our grasp!!!!

  19. Darin Says:

    Loyal
Agree. I personally dont like the national love. More local love follows, followed by price hikes. Of course it will come if they can string together a few. Saints time now tho

  20. Defense Rules Says:

@DBS … “Jameis had an excellent game as did the team. But the defense is still a problem.” Sounds like a broken record DBS. Offense gets all the credit and the defense (or S/Ts) get all the blame.

In case you missed it, the Bucs’ defense created FOUR turnovers. Count ’em … FOUR. Our defense scored a TD off of that fumble recovery, and set up the Bucs’ offense with exceptional field position on the other three INTs. Our offense did GRRREAT by playing COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL and because of those turnovers we scored 28 POINTS as a TEAM off of Rams’ miscues.

But ya, because the Bucs’ defense surrendered 34 points (4 TDs & 2 FGs) to the high-powered Rams offense, they’re still ‘A PROBLEM’. NEWSFLASH DBS: Our defense was on the field for 98 defensive snaps. The average game is around 70. Several defenders played virtually the entire game. THAT’S a problem (depth?). And especially when you’re playing a team with as much offensive talent as the Rams, as well-coached as the Rams, and one that used up-tempo to perfection IMO.

  21. LordCornelius Says:

    @Defense Rules

It’s crazy the Rams even put that many points up. They converted at least like 4 different 3rd and longs that typically no team converts. One of their TDs Shaq Barret was held and if not for the hold it should have been a strip sack.

It was flukey the game was even close at the end. Just like it was flukey that we lost to the Giants in a game most teams win 99.9% of the time, missing 3 kicks in the range of what is 95% accuracy in the NFL, in which only 1 made kick changes the game.

  22. LordCornelius Says:

Also if there is any difference in this 2-2 team vs the last 2 years; it’s that we were absolutely destroyed at points in our losses / not even competitive.

This year we have been competitive in every game / had the lead in every game. Week 1 blew it with pick 6s. Week 2 kicker blew it in a game we win 99% of the time normally. Should be 3-1. But look at last 2 years:

2017 – Viking game where we were blown out and down a bunch by the 2nd quarter. Not a contest.

2018 – Steelers laying an 4ss whooping on Monday night. Don’t care if we garbage timed our way to a closer score. That game was done early.

2018 again – Bears absolutely wrecked our lives 48-10

Between 17/18, 3 of our 4 first 4 losses were us getting destroyed.

  23. LordCornelius Says:

Hell even 2016 Bucs started 3-3 but we were blown out in 2 losses (40-7 against the Cardinals and 7-27 against the Broncos)

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

I prefer to fly under the radar. The ‘talking heads’ just continue to downplay the Bucs. Versus the Rams, you would’ve thought they had played the game already the way they were talking pre-game! Literally, Rams show up get the ‘W’ and go on the the Seahawks.
In fact, we still have our own fans that think that way. Why wouldn’t they?! Let them keep underestimating us.

  25. DBS Says:

That’s right DR . STILL giving up over 30 points a game!!! Don’t see a problem or are you just blind? The BROWNS just held the RAMS to 20 POINTS with a patched up secondary. Don’t see a problem? Yes DR they still are a problem untill they stop giving up 30 or more points a game.

  26. NashvilleBuc Says:

@LordCornelius you nailed it. This is why I am excited.
“Also if there is any difference in this 2-2 team vs the last 2 years; it’s that we were absolutely destroyed at points in our losses / not even competitive.”

  27. Buc_U Says:

I get the fact that you have to earn respect but the disrespect for our team is unacceptable. It’s always been like that and it always will be. For whatever reason the Bucs are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL. I don’t mind us not being talked about, but what I don’t like is the Sports media can’t keep quiet when we lose. They are always talking about us. When we win though we are not a good team, the other team just played poorly. Nobody brought up the defensive communications issues or the missed EP’s and field goal win the Giants won. But couldn’t stop talking about how great Daniel Jones was. At this point I don’t care because we can use it as fuel like the Eagles did. But when we have a winning season if I was the Bucs I would give a middle finger to them f@@kers and wouldn’t even do interviews and limit national media access.

  28. Buc_U Says:

By the way if what we saw Sunday wasn’t earned respect, nothing we do will ever be good enough for them. So you either roll with us or get rolled over!

Thanks to Nate and Chris for giving us credit, all the other jokers can KMA!!

  29. BetterBucFan Says:

I’m reminded of last year when almost every opposing team’s JoeBucFan equivalent complained about how bad their defense was. I’m sorry my guys it wasn’t your defense you got your ass whooped by the Bucs our offense is GOOD.

  30. Rob Tanner Says:

They hate us cause they ain’t us , who cares about national press? Players and coaches know who’s who. Not waisting my worries about the ESPN’s of the worlds not giving us due respect. #ByeFelicia

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

    D.R.

You know I agree with virtually all of your posts. The only place we disagree is in personal taste. LOL

I can’t even argue against the old saw about defense wins championships. I concede your way is “generally” more effective.

The beauty is we can still be friends because I believe this Bucs team actually has the ability to please us both.

Your desire for a dominant defense..suffocating run defense is a great start…my desire for old AFL offensive football…Sunday has to put a smile on Air Coryell wherever he is.

Or as you have correctly pointed out…”complimentary” football.
Lost in all the thrill of JW’s breakout and Sack Barrett’s amazing play is the fact that Sunday the Bucs looked good in all three phases…your love of defense my love of offense and mix in a good ST effort. We’ll win more than we lose every time we do that.

  32. Sumosam Says:

The Bucs are for real. Get used to it.

  33. JayBucBoi Says:

Forget a 3-3 record at the BYE; forget earning respect from the nationals; forget all of that!! It’s time we TAKE our respect and feed off of the disrespect from the nationals!! Grind like a team coached by the “sexiest” 60+ year old coach in the league and take our respect!!
No reason why we shouldn’t be 4-2 and in command of the division by the BYE … none whatsoever. Call me what you want: unrealistic, optimistic, a fanatic!! Reeling off 3 straight and learning how to win. More importantly, realizing that we are the new kings of the NFC South!! #GoBucs

  34. Buc1987 Says:

A missed FG in the Gint’s game for the WIN!

    They’d be 3-1 right now.

Screw Schein’s silly list…he must of missed how close they are to actually being 3-1.

    Go Bucs!

  35. Juju Says:

F it, beat the saints and panthers and be 4-2 at the bye.

JAMEIS WINSTON DERANGEMENT SYNDROME: How Media Bias Causes Us to Overlook the Start of a Hall of Game NFL Career

explains the when, why, how and where the media decided to go to war with Jameis Winston. The recent disrespect is just a part of the media’s war on Jameis.
