Three Words Sum Up Offense

October 13th, 2019

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich.

In Joe’s eyes, this Bucs offense can be summed up in three words.

No, those words aren’t turnovers, turnovers and turnovers.

The three words? “stubborn” and “not creative.”

To Joe, aside from the six turnovers by America’s quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, the offense could be summed up on one play early in the third quarter.

It was the Bucs’ first possession of the second half. The Bucs were trying to play catchup after the Bucs defense had just forced the Stinking Panthers to punt.

The Bucs, if you believe those who work inside One Buc Palace (and for a number of fans that want Joe to not believe his eyes) will have you know the team has Gale Sayers (Peyton Barber) and Walter Payton (Ronald Jones) on the roster.

So playing with half an offensive line due to injuries — one half is decent and the other half is glorified practice squad styrofoam packing peanuts — the Bucs decide to pass. Naturally, Jameis could barely set up before he was swarmed by defenders.

The Bucs actually had a third-and-two on that three-play drive. So why not run to the left? You know, you have these two Hall of Fame running backs — so everyone tells Joe and the Bucs crow about — run between Ali Marpet and Ryan Jensen? Or even have your big quarterback run up Jensen’s rear end?

But no, let’s pass the ball. Jameis for all intents and purposes was sacked but he was credited with a one-yard gain.

(Of course, if Jameis tried to run the ball with the day he was having, he’d have fumbled.)

It’s this type of crap that makes Bucs fans shake their heads. If a guy watching on his couch can figure out the Bucs should try to run left on short yardage, and a guy pounding beers in a bar can see this, why cannot guys getting paid loads of Team Glazer loot?

Joe always had a hunch that Bucco Bruce Arians was trying to grease the wheels for offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich to get a head coaching gig. The way things are going, the only head coaching gig Leftwich will interview for is the University of Illinois.

Imagine another team’s fanbase typing out that sentence

Your all blind!!! No other team would keep starting this blind beaver!!! RG4 please

    Evans had 3 awful drops.

OJ Howard had 1 or 2.

    2 fumbles from Bobo

2 fumbles from Winston plus 3 atrocious interceptions.

Offensive line is somehow worse than it’s ever been (which is saying a lot)

7 sacks. Couldn’t even count how many QB hits.

    Defensive line gets Zero pressure.

And our only defensive back that can actually play is now injured.

    If that’s not a #BucsLife, I dunno what is.

  7. Unimpressed Says:

Damn, McCoy is straight class, didn’t even take any shots at the Bucs after the game, very respectful of him. He had every right to rip us to shreds after the way he beat our ass today

Leftwich just needs to make his game 7 adjustments.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

We looked ugly a couple times on third and short today……Not sure how good/bad we been all year.

But this is a really that has to improve. 3rd and short should be much easier then we make it look. I do like we are much improved at 3rd & 1 but as a whole it gets us nowhere when 3rd & short is this bad.

    Very nice observation Joe.

  11. DB55 Says:

Who said Scotty Miller was fast? And who said he could play in the nfl? And who keeping calling plays to and for him?

  12. WalkdaPlank Says:

The swarming to defend Jameis on a SIX turnover day is nothing short of hilarious. It’s not a welcome sight to see him playing awfully, but it does bring a good laugh to see some absolute morons watch this man for 5 straight years and still think he’s the next Peyton Manning.

  13. SteelStudBuc Says:

Are we defending Jameis Winston the savior? The chosen one? Americas Quarterback? Pro Bowler?

Well, well, well, well, well…. open your eyes Jameis lovers…
Pure hot burning garbage in the sun, swarming with flies, maggots crawling around, cockroaches blindly scurrying around… this is what u asked for.

Put in Griffin. Winston should stay in though if they want a top 5 draft pick. Put in Griffin to avoid mutiny.

  14. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Even when Jameis had time he looked bad inaccurate and lost

    This team is a joke

  15. 123urout Says:

time to bench Jaymiss. We have enough of him for 5 disastrous years. Lets evaluate the backup QB. Lets go from there. What else do we have to loose.

  16. Hodad Says:

He takes sacks because he’s slow in his decision making, and just slow period. There’s no quick twitch with Jameis. He takes to much time, makes poor decisions, and is not accurate. This is his third head coach, and he still doesn’t look Tennessee ready. Yeah he looks like he did in his first start five years later, throwing picks. Time for a change. Fire Licht, draft Joe Burrow, I don’t care who the coach is, as long as Winston, and Licht are gone.

  17. SJ_Bucsfan Says:

    Bucs being Bucs… Sigh

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    Joe

    You got it wrong….

The way things are going, JW will be coaching little league baseball at west Tampa

    GO BUCS

  23. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Fire Sale. Winston isn’t the answer and shouldn’t be here next year. I don’t care if he is the next Steve Young and wins Super Bowls elsewhere, he will never do anything on this team.

Shed cap and trade players for draft picks. When you get your replacement GM who is competent, you start off by drafting Offensive and Defensive Line so when it’s time to get a new QB, they have an established O-Line that they can be comfortable behind.

We can lose with Winston next year for 28+ Million, or we can lose with Case Keenum next year for 3.5 million.

  24. Big Stinky Says:

I hate to say it but it’s time to start thinking about rebuilding. Other than a handful of players this team has NO talent. Seriously need to improve the OL and DL, and after drafting 9 DB’s in the last 4 years it looks like we need to draft some more. We are NEVER going to win more than 9 or 10 games with Winston as our QB either. Inconsistent, inaccurate, and turns the ball over WAY too often. Just draft another QB next year and use the extra money to upgrade this TEAM! Can’t believe Jason Licht got an extension after the players he has drafted since 2014, not much talent at all. Can’t see this team winning more than 6 or 7 games this year and that’s being generous.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    Unbelievable

    I’m talking about JWs play….

You’re the one who can’t keep VHGs balls out your mouth

  26. Nick2 Says:

If the Glazers are smart they will ask Arians to take over play calling if he decides to not bench Jameis. I don’t think Jameis is salvageable but we will never know with Leftwixh as playcaller. Byron way to scheme OJ Howard open 5 weeks too late. And if we are piling on does anybody on the earth not named BA think Rojo should be on the bench while Barber stumbles for 1 yard.

  27. DB55 Says:

    813

Nah idk that. Didn’t see the first half so idk.

I’m curious though when is the last time a qb won a game when he ms been sacked 6 times in a half? I’m sure it happens frequently.

I mean if my qb was that bad I’d just run the ball, 13 carries for 41 yards. I wonder why they can’t run the ball either? Ferris? Anyone?

So looking forward to next year….lol.

  28. JameisHas2Go Says:

So I think we as Bucs fans have to realize there is issue with this Roster

First and foremost it is front office.
We cannot sign quality free agents that fit a role on this roster(except for Shaquil Barrett)
We have had difficulty drafting players in the middle rounds that are productive.
We don’t have a good pro player development team that cultavates growth from year to year.

This is Jason Licht and his staff. The vast majority of which has to go.

    Second,
We hold on to good players that really are not true difference makers but are not truely solid either.
Donovan Smith and Al Marpet are this decade’s Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood. Not Great, not good, but mediocre. But we are paying them like top 5 starters. The offensive line really hasn’t gotten better. DeMar Dotson didn’t play today because he is consistently hurt but when he does he cannot move like he use to and he is penalty magnet. Lavonte David. God love him. He his numbers say he is better than Derrick Brooks, but we all know he is not. He is solid but the reality is, he has never been a true difference maker sans his second year in the league.

    Last,
You team is only as good as the quarterback. That is what they always say. So what does it say of this team that since Jameis second year when we went 9-7, the Bucs are 8- 20. 12 Games under .500.

He is inaccurate. He doesn’t take care of the football. He is not consistent from Play to Play let alone week to week. He has 10 interceptions in 6 games. This is not including the fumbles he has lost.

Look, it is not all his fault. The o line is a mess, we get random drops from OJ Howard and Mike Evans, but the reality is, quarterbacks get all the credit when they win, and the blame when they lose. And the Bucs lose alot.

We need a overhaul, again. Licht has to go. The scouting department needs to be completely overhauled.
If it requires a strong GM and staff that wants their own people, ARIANS AND HIS STAFF WOULD NEED TO GO AS WELL, although I don’t think that is necessary.
We need to drop a couple of these high price veterans that are not getting the job done.
We may need to trade some guys to get started on the rebuild. Talking to you Vernon Hargreaves, O.J.Howard and yes Mike Evans.
Accumulate assets for next years draft.

And start over. It sucks. We thought we had our guy. But we don’t. This is not like when we gave up on Steve Young to soon, or let Vinny walk for Craig Erickson???.
As Denny Green said once, they are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!

Well, Jameis is who we know he is, and we cannot continue to let him off the hook.
Same goes for Jason Licht. 5 year contract extension be darned.

  29. DB55 Says:

So no one is going to bring up or discuss mike Evans route on the last play? Ok.

  30. Nptbuc Says:

What a mess. Barely watchable tv yet I punished myself and saw the whole thing. When is Mr Accountability going to hold someone, anyone, accountable? Consistently out of position? No problem. Can’t field punts? No problem. Predictable running on 1 st down between the tackles? No problem. qB overthrowing, underthrowing, throwing behind receivers? No problem. QB throwing into good coverage, throwing to opposing team? No problem. Terrible play calling? No problem. Why do we suck? NO ACCOUNTABILITY!

  31. Ludicrous Speed Says:

I don’t know. With the kinds of decisions Light makes, I could definitely see him signing Winston for five more years at a big salary cap hit.

    Now isn’t that special?

  32. JP_09 Says:

Everyone calm down, don’t worry we’ll be Tennessee ready. It’s Bucs science

  33. Petty Officer Buc Says:

The fanbase has battered wife syndrome.

From an outsider it is so obvious that we need to divorce our self from Winston, but we are so defeated we are scared of finding someone better, like a person in their mid 40s in an unhappy marriage but even more terrified of dating again.

  34. firethecannons Says:

wow we cannot afford Jameis anyway in 2020 and there are so many options at quarterback in next years draft PULL THE BANDAID OFF AND TRADE JW this season if even possible. Bucs need to move on–games like this are good–yes I wrote that–we need to see what we have and have it be obvious so we can make correct choice for next season. We need new quarterback and major offensive line improvement with right tackle.

Play Griffin. And I like Jameis but……………..

  40. Greg Says:

But besides the gunshot Mrs. Lincoln how was your night at the theater?

  41. BucsFan76 Says:

We have Stockholm Syndrome. hat’s obvious because we keep defending this abuse. This team has numerous problems from top to bottom and they need a QB change desperately. I’ve seen enough. Winston had more turnovers in this game than some of the better QBs in the league will have this entire year. And before you tell me about our line issues and the dropped passes, go watch these other QBs. They get hit. They get pressured. Their receivers drop balls. We have to accept that Jameis isn’t going to figure this out. He is the Jackyl and Hyde QB of the league and it’s unacceptable if you want to win consistently.

  42. Stevebobucsfan Says:

I am with you bojim, start Ryan we got to do something different with this team. The other issue I am trying to figure out is, why or there wide open receivers on almost every play. This Bowles defense is stopping the run but just being scotched with the pass

  43. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

So Has2go, you really think drafting the 3rd QB in next years draft is going to do any better behind that offensive line. He didn’t have a good game, but really hard to just say he has to go when he literally was under a constant and severe pass rush. There isn’t a QB in the league that would have performed well in that situation today. Of course everyone is going to say he had 4 picks. One of them was caused by that pass rush when they hit his arm as he threw. The other one at the end of a game was a desperation play on 4th down and time running out. At the end of the day he had 2 picks and a fumble. Not great, but not as bad as many are making it out to be.

  44. JameisHas2Go Says:

This is something ESPN put out about Jameis
Jameis Winston now has 5 games of at least 4 turnovers since entering the NFL in 2015. No one else has more than 2 over that span.

This game has been taylor made to allow QB’s to flourish so when they struggle to succeed then it has to be acknowledged.

Jameis is the Blake Bortles of 2019. We all know he is done, but are not willing to admit it.

  45. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Only reason to play Ryan is if you want to lose out from this point forward. 2-14 won’t be good enough to catch Miami or Washington anyway. So you would get the 2nd or 3rd best QB in the draft.

Haters always hate to be called haters, but if you honestly think Ryan is better than Jameis you are a fool. Even the haters know that isn’t true but they type it anyway.

  46. unbelievable Says:

Yeah I’d love to know what QB you guys think is going to miraculously light it up behind this offensive line (and while having several 1st round picks continue to drop balls that him them right in their hands).

Who is this magic QB, I’m curious?

Best case scenario you might see a 10% drop in the amount of turnovers. That still isn’t winning us any more games, sadly.

  47. Stevebobucsfan Says:

I am not saying Ryan is better than Jameis. What I am saying is this team need some kind of a shake up or some kind of a boast. Ive been watch Jameis 5 years and cheered for him but you can’t keep holding ball like he does. Throw the damn ball away he’s not a super hero you can’t something happen every play

  48. Ronteco Says:

WRs are not getting open man. I agree, Winston sucks etc. but since the giants game, out WRs have not gotten open for him. Whether that’s on play call or the WR, not sure.

  49. wideleftandright Says:

    Scrap it !
Find a GM that knows success starts in the trenches and build from there.I would rather wait for winning seasons knowing the team is being built that way than watching this crap year in year out.
J L should resign !Not being able to draft a deceent DB with all those wasted picks .Who told him VH# was an nfl caliber CB.Fire that dude too.

I started on this 3 years ago. You can’t win games turning the ball over. It’s obviously this will never sink into Winston’s head. They have him holding the ball too long now and he’s still throwing them. The bell isn’t going off. Mcfly!
