Setback Or A Pattern?

October 13th, 2019

How much rope?

Yeah, Joe is listening to the Buccaneers Radio Network postgame show. And these dudes are stopping just short of calling for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to be benched for good.

Co-hosts Ronnie “Night Train” Lane and former Bucs tight end John Gilmore are absolutely staggered by Jameis redefining the term “Turnover Machine.”

And while both have noted that most quarterbacks would be benched for playing Santa Claus so badly and so often like Jameis has, most quarterbacks are not Jamies.

Lane seems to be done with Jameis, but confessed the team is unlikely to bench him. Gilmore noted Bruce Arians was brought in to fix Jameis and that the season is likely one long exam for Jameis.

Additionally, Gilmore said most of the pop quizzes Jameis has had this year he has aced.

“Jameis isn’t going anywhere, at least for this season,” Gilmore said. “If he continues on the pace that he set today. … But if he plays like he did the past few games, all is well.

“The truth is, what will they do next year? That’s the question the Bucs are probably asking themselves. Jason Licht, that’s the question he’s dealing with on that long flight back home, the question that is going through his head.”

Gilmore believes it is very possible that Jameis just had a one-game relapse and that he has made too much progress since Week 1 to just toss into the roadside ditch after today’s international embarrassment.

It seems as if Arians has run into the same problem with Jameis as former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter did. In his postgame presser, Arians said of Jameis, “He has a habit of trying to be Superman.”

Jameis is getting closer and closer to realizing his kryptonite is turnovers.

This reclamation project Arians signed up for may have been a bigger project that he originally thought.

5 picks and 2 fumbles. Year 5. Please cut him now. I can’t watch any more.

  2. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe you’re connected to the organization tell me there is rumblings that we are going to blow this team up and attempt a full rebuild.

  3. WeeManOfScots Says:

I don’t need to add anything that Dan already stated…

  4. StonedBuc Says:

Jamiss winsnon is not a smart human being. He has no self Awareness and is always making boneheaded moves.

  5. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Can you trust a QB who lays an egg once every few games if you are in the playoffs? Can you trust him to even get you to the playoffs?

Winston is more inconsistent than Kirk Cousins. Ask Minnesota how inspiring Cousins is right now.

  6. CPN Says:

Licht needs to draft a TE next year instead of a QB.

  7. Anonymous Says:

This isn’t a one game relapse. This is his third horrendous game. Last week NO just got penalties or couldn’t catch what he threw their way. Today, the other team caught them. No pocket awareness, whether or not a lot of it is bad O line. Get rid of this clown.

  8. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Que up the Winston defenders. He’s just plain awful. But go noles, right?

  9. Pewter power Says:

Not a smart quarterback at all no more defending. Even when he wasnt throwing picks had to wonder what he was seeing. Dude is damaged goods and will not be a decent quarterback until he turns 30 and stops using physical gifts and uses his brain. So pissed that we have to start over yet again with a new quarterback.

  10. BucsFan76 Says:

This is a joke. There will be top-tier QBs who won’t have 5 turnovers this entire season. This is just getting stupid.

  11. PragueBucsFan Says:

Sucks. Get rid of him and Jason Licht.

  12. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Hey, on the bright side, we can look forward to another draft with high picks. Perhaps Licht can trade our #1 with a bunch of 2nd round picks. We know good he picks in the second round.

  13. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

My GOD…..what SANE person actually believes Winston will EVER even come close to leading a team to a Super Bowl win…….dammmmm…..MOVE ON ALREADY!!! 5 picks? 2 fumbles? Multiple overthrows?? (The one to Miller was a TD). America’s Worst Starting NFL Quarterback indeed. (And he picked up a lot of garbage time passing yards. Again.)

  14. DB55 Says:

Look man if it makes you feel any better the Bucs will suck long after Winston is gone. Lol. 11 years no playoffs. They’ve been garbage for a very very long time.

I say trade Jameis now, I’d be interested in seeing who the next scapegoat will be.

  15. LondonBuc Says:

Was there watching today, Jameis was just horrible. we need a new qb who can find our own players and not the defence so often.. he was God-awful today and isn’t showing signs of improving

  16. Ben real Says:

Lmao …. I’m gonna repeat myself again every week until the season is over … I said the Bucs are a 1-2 win team this year as long as jameis is the QB … 2-4 … going to 2-5 … jameis Winston is garbage and inconsistent…. he will give you 3 games in a row where he’s the beat QB in the league and then the true jameis comes out .., if your a Bucs fan you know it’s a pattern … a leopard does not change its spots

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Who is the better QB…..Jameis Winston or Ryan Griffin…..How about Jameis Winston or Kyle Allen?

How do we know if Griffin Doesn’t play……here is the problem with continuing with Winston…..he just may have a small streak of good games at the end of the season…..you re-sign him to a huge contract….and you have the same inconsistent Jameis next year.

We likely have to move on and it needs to be sooner than the end of the year…..it’s been over 4 years….he isn’t any better than year one and he has many more weapons…..

  18. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

DB55….trade America’s Groper for what??? No NFL team will give ANY substantial value for the Turnover Machine. None!!

  19. BucsBandit Says:

JOE – with much respect for the hard work you guys do on this site…

It’s my 2 cents you should change the “how much rope?” caption under the photo of a black QB.

It certainly doesn’t bother me at all (and I know it wasn’t your intention to be insensitive) and probably doesn’t bother most people on this site, but in today’s “Cancel Culture” of being PC and overly sensitive to offending people, I could see someone at a site like ESPN or elsewhere on Social Media using that against you in someway.

Just my 2 cents of a quick observation.

  20. Ben real Says:

Damn wish we had Gardner minshew

  21. Ndog Says:

So the WR doesn’t come back to the ball which gets picked, blame the QB. The RT gets blown by and the DE hits the QB’s arm as he throws which causes a pick, blame the QB. A 60 bomb thrown perfectly and is dropped, blame the QB. A ball is dropped by the TE on 3rd and 10 causing a 4th down where you have to throw, blame the QB. Throws a fade into the endzone to your “best player” and your ” best player” doesn’t even turn around for the ball which gets picked, blame the QB. Oh yeah the oline gives up pressure in pretty much half a second every play, blame the QB.

The QB throws a horrible pass that gets picked by the MLB that IS the QBs fault.

The QB tries to do too much and fumbles the ball that US on the QB.

You see those last two statements prove you can be honest about what you see but all you morons unfortunately are more like the first set of statements, just talking out of your a$$.

  22. Ludicrous Speed Says:

Well, in his fifth year it certainly is good news to hear that he “is getting closer and closer to realizing his kryptonite is turnovers.”

What a relief. Why at this rate, by the end of his next contract extension he might actually have an epiphany.

Now there’s something we can all look forward to, down the road.

  23. Coburn Says:

Burned through thr rope long ago. How could you ever trust him. Hod forbid we actually somehow make it to the playoffs in the future wih all the ups and downs. . You’re basically rolling the dice every playoff game. You can have an off game or two during the regular season but come post season one bad game means you’re out.

    Clown alert…clown alert!

  25. spicoli Says:

It’s a pattern… Year in year out Jameis is careless with the ball

  26. DB55 Says:

Trade for a bologna sandwich for all I care. People who know football and study this team realize Winston is not the problem but wtfdik

  27. JimmyJack Says:

As of today it is absolutely a pattern.

If it was a setback that will have to be proven and it is going to take a lot to proove that.

In the meantime I think I can speak for a lot of Buc fans that still had some hope for Winston when I say my confidence is shattered and I do not trust him as the QB for my team no more.

  28. spicoli Says:

It’s a pattern… Year in year out Jameis is careless with the ball. A turn over is a turnover regardless of who’s fault it is, the blame is ultimately put on the QB as it should be.

  29. BucsBandit Says:

NDOG – you think all of those things don’t happen regularly in NFL Games? They happen to all QBs.

Yet if you look at the overall “body of work” of Jameis Winston, he has been very inconsistent and turnover prone. He leads the league in turnovers since he was drafted.

Can you admit that? Can you admit that his play is inconsistent and he has a turnover problem after 4+ seasons in the league?

Good, because if you can then you are realizing the Bucs needs to move on from him.

  30. Ed Says:

I can’t believe a 4 interception, 2 fumble game from a 5th year veteran that hasn’t shown any ability to maintain drives or get his team in the playoffs is being excused for “having a bad day”. The sacks he took showed a complete unawareness of the timing to either throw the ball away or dump it off. We have we have, the NFL’s most prolific turnover machine in the past 5 years of all quarterbacks. High turnovers give you around a 90% chance of losing. The definition of insanity is to keep doing what doesn’t work and we’re watching some insane quarterback play over 5 years

  31. Tampabuscsbro Says:

LOL THE JAMEIS WINSTON DEFENSE FORCE IS OUT IN FULL FORCE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A MIX OF FSU HOMERS AND DELUDED FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WINSTON COULD HAVE THROWN 12 PICKS AND THEY WOULD STILL WANT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I WANT WHATEVER THEY ARE SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Capt. Tim Says:

Arians is trying to make Jameis more intelligent.
    Good luck, Coach!

  33. Ndog Says:

BucsBandit no they don’t that’s why we suck and continue to lose. Don’t you get it, no one can succeed with everything around you is burning down.

  34. BucsBandit Says:

    DB55,

Winston is NOT the only problem on this team and why they aren’t winning. But he IS one of the big problems and a contributor to the losing.

Because of that, it’s time to move on from Winston and find someone else that may be able to play better. And no matter what, that next QB will be 80% LESS in cap money than what it will cost to keep Winston on the team. This alone is enough of a reason to move on from the Winston Era in Tampa Bay.

  35. unbelievable Says:

    Weeks 2 – 5: He’s a top 10 quarterback

Weeks 1 & 6: Perhaps the worst in the league.

What has been the consistent thing with Jameis: inconsistency.

10 weeks left for him to show he’s learned or move on to a new team.

But I’ll go ahead and ask everyone else this question again: What QB do you think would come in here and do any better behind this pathetic o-line? You might see a couple less picks, but not much. Doesn’t help when you have TWO 1st-round picks dropping multiple passes that hit them in the hands either.

Plenty of blame to go around for today’s loss.

    Jameis played bad.

    Evans and Howard played bad

    O-line was god awful

    D-line was MIA

    Secondary is still awful

    Special teams in insulting.

What’s it gonna take for this team to actually change?

So is any of this untrue?

  37. BringBucsBack Says:

Even if Jameis balls-out the remainder of the season, they’d be foolish not to draft a QB from next year’s class. (Well, we are fools!). Even if it’s in round 2-4; they must. The guy is just not reliable or improving and the list of younger, better QBs is growing.

  38. D-Rome Says:

He is not the QB of the future. The sooner the coaching staff, ownership, and fans come to grips with this the better it will be moving forward.

  39. BucsBandit Says:

    Ndog,

Huh? All QBs have dropped passes, face missed blocks, and deal with mistakes their teammates make. It happens EVERY GAME.

You can’t just use that as an excuse for Winston’s poor play. Are you saying somehow that Jameis Winston’s entire career is an ANAMOLY that WRs drop more great passes from him than have from any other QB in history over 4+ years?

This isn’t a conspiracy theory against Winston. You can’t just deflect his inconsistent, poor play onto his teammates (that have had their own share of crappy play). You have to look at Winston’s performance on a regular basis. It’s not great. He’s just too inconsistent and turnover prone. He makes poor decisions with the football.

Futhermore, no one is expecting another QB to come in to replace Winston right now (such as Griffin off the bench or drafting a QB next year) and start winning, They absolutely won’t instantly turn this team into a playoff contender. BUT…

Another QB probably does have these two factors…

    1) They very well might play much better and more consistent than Winston has.
    2) They’ll cost 80% LESS in salary cap hit. We can use the saved money to go out and buy better players to improve others parts of the team; we would not have the extra cap money if Winston stays. Do you have any idea what an EXTRA $20M-$25M+/year (difference in Winston’s salary vs. rookie) in saved cap space would do for this team right now?

  40. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Setback or a pattern??

It’s been 5 years, wtf do you think?

“Jameis is getting closer and closer to realizing his kryptonite is turnovers.”

It’s been 5 YEARS! Everyone and their mother knows Jameis can not and will not ever be able to protect the football.

  41. David Says:

This game cemented it for me. I don’t care what he does the rest of the year, it is time to move on and draft a new quarterback.
He hangs on to the ball too long.
He forces it to certain receivers at times.
He is too loose with the ball causing fumbles.
    He isn’t very accurate.
And of course, every couple of games there are suddenly stupid decisions which cause interceptions.

Done with him… and I was on his corner for years.

Go draft DBs and pass rushers and then next year get the Clemson quarterback

  42. Tye Says:

Pattern… 5 years of these kind of games..

He is a backup at best… The Bucs would be better off with just about any of the other 31 qbs…
Hopefully JW is playing in his last games!

  43. Capt. Tim Says:

Next year should be very exciting!
Winston, Cam Newton, and Nick Foles all unemployed. Some poor team will waste a couple years on one of them.
    Just like we’ve done.

  44. Rayjay1122 Says:

I would switch to RG4 with the extra weekend him to get in sync with the starters. Best case, he does great and we salvage the season. Worst case, he sucks and we tank for a new QB in the draft.

  45. unbelievable Says:

Unless you guys have a plan to somehow upgrade 2 -3 of the 5 positions on our o-line, I dunno what you expect a rookie QB to do…

  46. JameisHas2Go Says:

I understand there is a belief that people who don’t support Jameis don’t acknowledge the offensive line is not an issue. That couldn’t be further from the truth however, I would like to point out a QB that gets hit more than Jameis.

DeShaun Watson in his first 2 plus season has been sacked 99 times.
His sack percentage, for the first 2 years and 5 games is 10.2%.
This is available via pro football reference

Jameis first 32 games had been sacked 62 times.

Coming into this year, the highest sack percentage for Jameis was 6.9%
Meaning, our O-line was significantly better at protecting our QB then Houston was and is .

This year, we are around where Houston is, even before this game.

However the turn margin for Jameis to DeShaun is astonishing.

Jameis Winston 32 Games 33 Interceptions 16 Fumbles
DeShaun Watson 28 Games 18 Interceptions 12 Fumbles

Watson Interception Percentage Highest was 3.9%
Winston Interception Percentage Highest was 3.7%

So Winston 3.7% was in his fourth year, Watson’s was rookie year.
    Winston is regressing

When he faces pressure, he is not intuitive in the pocket, if he is not sacked, he loses his throwing mechanics and the ball placement is affected that leads to over throws in the best case scenario and interceptions in the worst case.

DeShaun Watson faces more pressure more consistently then Jameis and yet he continues to perform more consistently then Jameis with fewer weapons, and fewer attempts and is above .500. Now they do have a better defense in Houston. But even with a mediocre defense. If Jameis showed the consistency of Watson, this team should have no problem winning, 7-9 game every year. But we don’t we under perform.

We cannot use the excuse who could do better. Because there are QB’s that do better with less talent. Look at Watson.

  47. WalkdaPlank Says:

“Unless you guys have a plan to somehow upgrade 2 -3 of the 5 positions on our o-line, I dunno what you expect a rookie QB to do…”

No worse, and a lot cheaper, than Jameis Winston can do

  48. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Are u kidding DB55?
    Winston is not the problem?
You sir are what we call an ‘Ignoramus’

  49. ColBucFan Says:

Unfortunately, Arians won’t move on from Winston…it is too much of a mission for him. Our only chance is Winston gets an injury.

  50. MadMax Says:

And with the 4th pick of the 2020 draft, the Bucs select, qb Jake Fromm. Yes hed had a bad game yesterday, but thats a rare one.

  51. Jeffbuc Says:

Ndog there is no defending that horrendous play of the field by Jameis today. By you trying to just shows how much of a homer you are. We win that game if Jameis only has three turnovers versus 6. Our qb had 6 turnovers and another fumble and you defend it. That very first play set the tone for the game. Do t you thing there is a reason no one is ever open. They are he just holds the ball to long. He doesn’t know how to throw guys open. I am over him single handily ruining my sundays. We have all seen enough. It is just plain stupid if the coaches do t see what we have in griffin. What if he comes in and lights it up and we have a QB of the future who we can trust but we keeping wasting time on Jameis to develop. He has 20 more turnovers than any other qb since he joined the league. There are some qbs that don’t have 20 turnovers total since he came into the league. There is no defending Jameis play on the field today

  52. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

After over 60 starts this is who he is

No formerly retired coach who is mailing it in will fix that

  53. WalkdaPlank Says:

    MadMax

As a UGA fan, Fromm is not an NFL QB. Game manager at best

  54. BucsBandit Says:

    @JameisHasToGo

    Excellent analysis.

  55. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Folks…the large majority of Jameis completed passes are poorly thrown balls…Trent Dilfer was a better QB than Jameis

  56. Jean Lafitte Says:

    I’ve pretty much checked out

  57. spicoli Says:

Weeks 1-16 Jameis still leads the league in turnovers and our pass Def is ranked 32 in the league

  58. Denjoe Says:

    Enough is Enough!

  59. Pete I Says:

    Who cares anymore?

America’s Ugly American in London, tidy bowler Jameis “meaningless stats ” Winston.

We will contine to lose with him and we may continue to lose without him.

We should try the may contine to lose without him.

But the Glazers are likely looking to offer to move the team to London, something the NFL wants badly. Great new stadium and its only a few hours to Man U. The Glazers would be in heaven.

  60. Fire Goodell Says:

    Jared Goff
    Dak Prescott
    Mitchell Trubisky
    Patrick Mahomes
    DeShaun Watson
    LaMar Jackson

These are the QBs drafted after Winston who took their teams to the playoffs within their first two years. Watson tore his ACL his rookie year while everyone else (except Prescott) started their rookie seasons on the bench. Not including Carson Wentz who was injured both of his first two seasons including when Philly won the SB.

    Anyone else I missed?

  61. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs will likely never win enough to make the playoffs with Jameis as our QB. He’s much too INCONSISTENT. This is his 5th year, and he’s been on ONE winning team. And the only reason we went 9-7 THAT year is because the DEFENSE strung together what you previously termed ‘five fluke defensive performances’ that season. If it was up to Jameis & the offense in 1996, our record would’ve been more like 6-10 or at best 7-9.

  62. NYbucsfan Says:

    He stinks!!! Let’s move on.

  63. MadMax Says:

Starting to like that kid from Washington, QB Jacob Eason….not sure if he’s top 10 talent but if we traded down from our top 5 pick (trust me its coming), maybe get him around 12th-15th….we need picks so trading down is a must!

  64. OBP Says:

This was a bad team that BA inherited and it’s still a bad team. The O-line and secondary are still the biggest problems on this team, if you give Jameis time for the receivers to run their routes he’ll dice anyone up.

  65. Wesley Says:

Dude just isn’t consistent and continues to make poor decisions with the ball. He is what he is.

  66. Jerry Says:

This is his 5th year! What progress are you wanting to see?

  67. ModHairKen Says:

Like Testaverde and Dilfer, other high 1st round QB picks, Jameis has failed.

  68. Hodad Says:

Whether we move on from Jameis which I think we should do, the decision shouldn’t be Jason Licht’s. We need a new GM, as bad as we need a new QB. We need a new set of eyes next year on the whole roster, Licht can’t be objective looking at his own picks. Licht has lived through 3 coaches, draft busts, including his pick as franchise QB with the first overall pick. A GM can not survive all these bad decisions. Licht must go, take Jameis with him. I don’t care who the coach is, you can’t win with this roster, and joke of a franchise QB.

  69. NPRSageBoy Says:

Seriously, how much worse than JayMiss could RG4 be? Seriously?

A middle school QB from Hudson would have outplayed Mr. Turnover today.

Let’s be real! Enough is enough with this fool! How much larger sample size is required to finally realize this clown is a bust?

Kick JayMiss, VH3 and Jason Licht to the curb and let’s start over. It’s well past that time already.

  70. Mike Johnson Says:

Looks like jameis is gonna replace Lovie, Koetter. Smitty and GMC as the new Scapegoat after this season. The lynchmob is getting hungry and angry. Hang’em all high baby!!!!!!

  71. Boltsfan17 Says:

The old saying: “Once is an accident, two is a trend and three we have a problem.”

JW needs to go somewhere else for the good of this franchise and what’s left of his career.

  72. Aceofaerospace Says:

It’s kinda like, “I hate my wife. But I’ll be damned if I’m gonna divorce her. Because if I do and she gets happily married to some other dude, I’ll look like a chump. Nope, we’re gonna stick it out and be miserable together!”

  73. firethecannons Says:

sell him at the soonest opportunity

  74. firethecannons Says:

    fire goodell
yeah you missed the dude that beat the Bucs today cause you wrong if you dont think Panthers going to the playoffs this season with newton on the bench in his girlie clothes

  75. firethecannons Says:

oh and firegoodel there is marcus mariota also–he been to playoffs I think twice so far

  76. Buczilla Says:

Winston has been given more than enough time to prove himself. Time to move on after this year. It’s heartbreaking that he still looks more like a rookie than a five year vet most games, but you have got to move on and start AGAIN at qb.

  77. Who Cares Says:

1 TO is a setback. 6 TOs is a pattern.

  78. lambchop Says:

    DB55 and Ndog,

It comes down to dollars. The Bucs cannot invest more money into a QB who is inconsistent. Forget all the drops by the WRs, the route running, the OL, and the hangnail – Jameis makes enough of his own mental mistakes that the writing is on the wall. He doesn’t have elite play, he’s an elite athlete with an elite appetite for holding onto the ball trying to be a hero. You can fix the OL, the WR drops, the penalties, etc. But, can you stop Jameis and his own mistakes when the team is playing catch up? NO.

He may be successful somewhere else, but for whatever reason, no coach and no GM is going to watch money go down the drain knowing that Jameis still makes the SAME mistakes over and over again into his 5th year. If he could learn to not be a hero, the blame automatically would go some where else. But, in year 5, the leash is gettin worn out. How do you excuse him being so awfully inaccurate on the first play of the game where he stared down ME? You can’t. He just doesn’t play consistently well. For a QB and a #1, that’s inexcusable.

Dirk and BA are dealing with the same stupid mistakes. Nail, meet coffin at the end of the season unless he balls out miraculously, gets paid here, and he regresses some more while we fans suffer.

  79. Cobraboy Says:

After five years we still witness this debacle of quarterbacking.

The league is being set oin fire with lowly QB’s just out of college that don’t cost a fortune.

I hope the Bucs choose to walk away from Winston and a massive new contract. It’s clear the money can be used elsewhere more effectively.

    ……..

In fairness, the right side of the OL did Winston no favors.

  80. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

This CLOWN is really starting to sound like a broken record…..I REALLLY need to do a better job of not turning the ball over….TIMES 5 years now.

  81. tgregs Says:

Rebirth of Freeman but weaker arm and even dumber

  82. Bucsace Says:

Time to move on…..you can get this kind of QB performance for a lot less money no problem

  83. BrianBucs Says:

As I said before, with Winston you get a lot of very good mixed in with a lot of very bad. Last week was very good, today he was a disaster.
Winston is who he is and no coach will change that. He’s now through the 6th game of his 5th season so it’s not like a magic switch will be flipped.
Is this the kind of QB play that you would pay 25-30 million a year for and just hope for the best?

My heart doesn’t like it but once again my head says the Bucs need to keep losing to get a great draft spot next year as we are done again already. Quarterback Round 1….General Manager Round 2!!!!

  85. The Truth Says:

You are only as good as your offensive line. Until you fix that Tampa Bay will never win consistently whoever is a quarterback.

  86. 813bucboi Says:

    Play Ryan griffin…..

All the other backup QBs are playing well…lol….

Winston is done in the NFL as a starter ….

    JW is a bust…

    GO BUCS

  87. JameisHas2Go Says:

Congratulations to Jameis, did anyone know he became the first QB in team history to throw 100TD’s in his career with the team. Good on you Jameis. Quite the accomplishment. ***Cricketts***

  88. Bucs4life Says:

10 point deficit at the half, hardly no rush attempts the 2nd half and 54 pass attempts for the game with a quarterback that is known to make mistakes. Blame Winston if you want but he’s doing what he’s always done, coaches need to help him succeed.

  89. RealityCheck Says:

Ndog must have an entire shrine devoted to Jameis in his room. Pathetic dude.

  90. Bobby M Says:

I think the better perspective on Winston is this…..is there a price you would sign him for? $27 million per year for another 5 yrs of what we’ve seen isn’t going to provide enough cap space to field the supporting cast he’ll need to succeed….or even look competent. If there’s simply no amount, then it’s time to start unloading players for picks. JPP has value….Barber has value…Evans has tremendous value. Maybe even Winston is worth something….My guess is Licht will do nothing as he always does and we’ll be fielding the same crap show next yr

  91. BrianBucs Says:

    JameisHasToGo

Those garbage time TD’s really add up fast

  92. JameisAlmighty! Says:

It’s just one game against a resurgent Carolina Panthers team. Jameis is fine. The big issue is the OLine. Get Jameis on a better team and he will thrive. Just look at Teddy Bridgewater… Jameis isn’t the problem. It’s the Glazers. It’s Jason Licht, and Bruce Arians. Arians is a has been that can’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag! Fire Licht, Fire Arians, Glazers Out!

  93. Pewter power Says:

    @Fire Goodell

You missed a lot if you think mitch, Jared and Lamar are the reasons their teams were in the playoffs. Sorry but those quarterbacks were along for the ride.

  94. kyle Says:

bench him, tank the season ans draft the kid from LSU

  95. stpetebucsfan Says:

This debate will continue to rage. Buc’sBandit helped me see the light.

Like many here I’ve been stuck in the middle of the JW arguments. Hyperbole flying from both sides.

I don’t think JW is awful, he’s absolutely inconsistent, but here is what BB pointed out.

Is JW worth the giant cap hit he represents. Or would we be better to make some moves…perhaps ME13…can we afford two #1 WR’s…Godwin is the true #1 right now. I love ME but…

Imagine JW and ME’s salaries gone…imagine the draft picks for ME and perhaps another player or two.

We absolutely fortify the trenches…studs drafted on both sides of the ball…same for FA’s.

  96. BigZ Says:

Wrong on drafting a QB next year, straight OL and DE. Trade a TE this year for 2021 as stock and set yourself up for Lawrence. This team must draft Trevor Lawrence at all cost. No quarterback coming out next year is going to fix this team it’s systemic with the offensive line and defensive line they are two to three years away still the trenches in draft Lawrence in 2021 so, hopefully he comes out

  97. Ricordo Says:

Seems that the only thing left is for JW to ask to be traded.

    Too far-fetched?

  98. Alanbucsfan Says:

You want to see an empty RayJay in future? Sign Jameis long term.
    Time to move on…

  99. BigZ Says:

No. JW needs to be moved to save his career, but it will be next year. Bucs know how to waste talent.

  100. BucsBandit Says:

    #BOYCOTT-THE-BUCS

Is going to start building up major momentum. The Glazers have to know 100% by now, Jameis Winston is not the answer at QB.

If the Glazers don’t get rid of this guy soon (or if they do something stupid like resign him like they did Licht) then a major BOYCOTT of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will begin.

Fans, already more than do now, will refuse to attend games at Raymond James Stadium anymore. They’ll stop spending money on the team and that will hurt the bottom line for this organization, which is a for-profit enterprise.

Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans have HAD ENOUGH. It’s time to take a stand against the Glazers and their poor decisions for the team and boycott the team unless they start making major changes, like getting rid of Jameis Winston.

“Boycott The Bucs” is going to be a growing Movement.

    YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

  101. GetOverIt Says:

They will draft a QB. Jameis isn’t worth paying any more.

  102. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Winston and this offense go as the offensive line goes. The games in which our OL played great the offense looked very efficient. Games like today Winston and the offense have no chance. When defenses can pressure Winston with just four and play coverage, it’s really ugly. Fumbles interceptions and zero run game. We’ve seen Jameis be great and terrible and it’s almost always the result of how our OL performs.

  103. Anonymous Says:

Ed says: “I can’t believe a 4 interception, 2 fumble game from a 5th year veteran that hasn’t shown any ability to maintain drives or get his team in the playoffs is being excused for “having a bad day”. The sacks he took showed a complete unawareness of the timing to either throw the ball away or dump it off. We have we have, the NFL’s most prolific turnover machine in the past 5 years of all quarterbacks. High turnovers give you around a 90% chance of losing. The definition of insanity is to keep doing what doesn’t work and we’re watching some insane quarterback play over 5 years.”

Balls on accurate. Can’t be more true. How many more “prove it” years are needed? ZERO. We are down to a matter of games now. Thank God!

  104. Figures Says:

Lmao Ndog has literally blamed every single interception on someone other than the person throwing the ball. Lmao.

Wow. Just stop dude. You’re making yourself look ridiculous.

I mean I do love how you just gloss over the 2 fumbles and the pick he threw right to kuechly lol.

I think you must be joking trying to defend that abomination that was today.
Overthrows all over the place. Terrible decisions. Let me guess someone ran the wrong route right?

Man you are truly a pathetic FSU homer.

  105. Craig Says:

Enough is enough, it is time to see if Griffin is a serviceable QB. If he is then the Bucs can draft a QB in the later rounds and Arians can work his magic on him. The best QB in the league was a sixth rounder. More than 50% of first round QBs are busts.

If Griffin is not serviceable, which I doubt, the Bucs need to look for a trade, or find an out of work QB to woo. Then draft a QB in the later rounds, there are a bunch of good looking college QBs this year, more than the first round can support.

    Get some O-line depth first.

  106. Sleepy903 Says:

Everyone that wants to draft a QB in the next draft with all the other issues on this team is committed to losing culture as well. Im fine with moving on from Winston however the Oline needs to be addressed first. The right side of the line was average at best prior to losing both players now we have two players we never even heard of before this week filling in for them. Dotson is most likely gone after this season and Licht hasnt drafted a replacement in either of the last two drafts.

This next draft needs to address who will protect or next QB not just sticking a rookie out there thinking he is going to turn this franchise around. We can literally ruin a highend QB due to our line being below average. For the plays that BA likes to run we need an above average to great Oline especially for a rookie QB.

We’re going to have to ride this out and draft Okudah from Ohio State and two high end Olineman and a third from the later rounds. in the midst of that a edge rusher. Since licht like to draft positions in bunches i’d be quite alright with 3 picks being Olinemen. If they beat out some starters you now have depth.

IDK why they havent traded Brate if youre not going to use him trade him. I love Mike Evans but trade him to a contender too you should get at least 4-5 picks for them combines. Might as well call AB up while your at it and give him a shot what do we have to lose at this point. You get 4-5 picks. A number 1 WR and still get to compete without blowing it up completely.

  107. Jmarkbuc Says:

We don’t need a quarterback until everything else gets s shored up.

Take our inevitable high pick, trade down and get more picks. Give me a cheap journeyman QB until we’re ready for something better.

  108. Dirkdiggler Says:

He started amazing but he can’t maintain it. Inconsistency is a real thing. It’s what decides the pretenders from the contenders. Winston is a pretender.

  109. NYC Bucs Says:

Titans benched Mariota….. I remember when it was the battle of the 2 number one QB’s. They should have benched Jameis. It couldn’t have gotten any worse.

  110. A Train Says:

I have a novel idea, let’s get rid of everyone who is causing us to SUCK.

GM, offensive line, QB, kicker, secondary.

That is where the rebuilding needs to begin.

    Is that fair?

  111. Luke Says:

Well again we are who we thought we are. 5 & 11 maybe 6………….awe screw it. This Franchise is crap top to bottom. Can ‘t believe the moves or lack of the last five years. Okay Jameis sucks, Mariota no better. So how did they get 1 an 2. Obviously the draft has been a disaster. Every one finds decent players but us. Look to the Top, Our owners have no clue. Jason would not have a job anywhere else in the NFL.
Now what??? It is what it is, the loyal fans will still come, although dwindling. How big is our roster??? we can’t find duds, like Winston, Hargraves, Howard, an on an on. Hell recruit some CFLers or Cast a ways. Team would not be any different. Losing is a hard dog to fight. Even Bruce A. can see that. Lets hope his health holds up to this collection of junk. Seems like a nice guy but his coaching days are lost. Look no further than his Offensive Coach. Even Shula under Dungy was more qualified. Well Pewter Pirates our ship has sunk again.

  112. tgregs Says:

The winning formula is actually pretty simple. The Patriots win and win and win because Brady is committed. He plays for a salary that, by NFL standards, is modest…far less thanthe Bucs are paying the ass-clown. Because of that the Patriots have space to keep up and win. Compare that to Brees, Rogers, Rothlisbereger and so on. They gobble up so much cap space that free agency will cripple the team evey few years. That’s one of many reasons Brady is the best in the game. There was a great SI aricle on this.
Lame Ass is on the other end. Some talent, minmal intelligence, and now a cap space pac man. Sadly the Bucs made keeping him a prerequisite to the head coaching job so there is really no choice but to play the moron till the bitter end, then gain cap space and hopefully a new GM and head coach.

  113. EEK Says:

    Winston being Winston.

  114. J Says:

“Americas QB”…HAAAAAA! Start Griffin, NOW! JW is NEVER going to get better. It’s taken him 5 years to get worse….and dont try and throw completion percentages around. There are QBs with worse %’s that are simply better.

  115. down in the dirt doug Says:

During the game the sports casters pointed out that our run game was very ,very predictable.I turned off the game at the half.I just have no more faith in Jameis ,our coaches or licht!!VERY SAD AND DEPRESSING DAY IN TAMPA BAY!!!

  116. Buc1987 Says:

When Buc1987 has given up on Jameis he’ll let you know…..

Buc1987 has officially given up on James Winston.

Those back to back fumbles were too much to take.

    Goodbye kid….good luck.

  117. July Joe Says:

You know THE SOLUTION to a QB turning the ball over too much?

A merely “league average” defense and run game … that’s it. Nothing too special, just “league average”.

JW, Godwins, Evans … they’re all being wasted on a team that can’t stop anyone from scoring at will.

  118. Bruce Blahak Says:

WINSTUNNED sucks, simple as that…The sooner management and these blind fans see this the better or this team will find out the absolute depths of losing. It could get worse with this fraud in place…..

  119. passthebuc Says:

Here is the reason the Bucs will not trade JW this season. He has no trade value. No one wants him.

  120. ClodHopper Says:

I’m done with him. I’ve been more than fair with him. Book smart and street stupid. Smart in the classroom and dumb on the field. The wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man can do better.

    Time to go QB shopping.

  121. PhillyBuc Says:

Tries to be Superman plays more like Captain Underpants

  122. LongSeason Says:

Pattern. Complete inconsistency. Complete incompetence. Best to try out our other QB. I’m sure they could throw the same interceptions for a lot less money.

  123. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Most people on here have trashed me for years regarding Winston. Now, just about all of them have finally seen the light. He is awful. ON and OFF the field. Time to move on, and reunify. And Joe, you can still use the dumb “America’s Quarterback” when he’s on the bench for another team.

  124. MadMax Says:

What up 87….good to see you….we were here before with freefree LOL.
Sucks we’re here again, but yep….your thoughts on Eason or Fromm?

  125. Gman Says:

Queue all of the basement dwelling losers telling us he has the most passing yards of any QB under 25 or some nonsense like that
