Same Ol’ Bucs

October 6th, 2019

Can’t get over the hump.

People wonder why those outside the Tampa Bay area have so little use for the Bucs. Today, once again, demonstrated why.

Whenever the Bucs have a decent game, they follow it up by getting slapped back into place the next week. It has now happened twice this season.

And once again, at the hands of a backup quarterback.

Earlier this year, the Bucs had a nice win on the road at Carolina. This was followed up by choking on a double-digit lead to a rookie QB making his NFL debut. Splat!

Then the Bucs go out to the left coast and hammer the Rams, the defending NFC champs, who at the time were undefeated.

So how did the Bucs follow that up? By getting stomped in the Superdome today.

It is as predictable as a Bourbon Street band playing Bon Jovi or Journey on a Friday night for thirtysomething women on a girls weekend retreat. This is why people outside the Tampa Bay area snicker whenever the Bucs have a nice win. “Oh, that’s just cute. Wait till next week.”

#ItsABucsLife

This has been going on since Chucky was jettisoned by the Bucs. Joe can only remember two seasons where the Bucs had consecutive wins over good teams. One was starting 2-0 last year, and the other was five straight in 2016, and — surprise! — they contended for a wild card spot that season.

Is it just because this team in years past has been poorly constructed? Or is it as simple as America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, just isn’t good enough to consistently put a team on his back?

No, Jameis isn’t why the team lost the game today. Maybe just as important, Jameis couldn’t pull off an upset today, either.

Even if we tried….refs took the fight right out of us from the beginning…still, have to overcome that though, but we didnt. Screw it…on to London!!

  3. Petty Officer Buc Says:

While Carlton Davis isn’t going to be confused with an All-Pro CB anytime soon, it is telling how the secondary completely fell apart when he got ejected.

VH3 is legitimately bad at covering almost every single WR1 in the league.

  4. RagingBrisket Says:

Can there be a formal indictment of do no wrong Licht?

  5. BucsBandit Says:

JAMEIS WINSTON: 9/19, 105 yards, 5.5 avg. yards per completion (and should have had 4 INTs).

Those were his stats until garbage time once again pads his stats (adding another 100 yards and the late TD to Godwin that didn’t matter) to make the Jameis-Homers think he’s any good. It’s been the story of his career for 4 years… some decent days but a lot of inconsistent crap, and then a ton of garbage-time stats to make his total yardage look like he’s much better than he is.

  6. Waterboy Says:

Right in line with my 7-9 expectations.

  7. RagingBrisket Says:

Lines on both sides got abused in a way that is debatable for first nut

  8. RFN Says:

The Bucs secondary is just awful. Hargreaves just kind of shadows his man from a safe distance, watches him make the catch and then (sometimes) makes the tackle

  9. Boltsfan17 Says:

There are so many holes on this roster that placing blame in one area is unfair. The secondary is laughable, the Oline pass protection is inconsistent and seemingly breaks down at the worst times. Aside from Evans there are zero true impact players and he allowed himself to be completely taken out of the game.

Arians has been unimpressive and the lack of discipline is still a huge problem. This roster needs a massive overhaul. Despite that nonsense Arians spouted in the off season about a fixed secondary and they’re reloading not rebuilding, most here can see the poor drafting and terrible FA decisions have crippled this organization.

The All 22 is going to show that there were many plays Jameis left on the field today. Still, there are probably 7 other reasons why the Bucs lost this game before Jameis can be blamed. You can start with the play calling and offensive line, in any other.

  12. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

BucsBandit Jameis ain’t going anywhere so you better start cheering him on or go find another team. He’s not going to play lights out every game and did you see his protection? Come on man get a grip. The entire team didn’t play well, and the refs completely screwed us once again. How was that fumble not our ball, and that other call not pass interference. That shat pisses me off!

  13. Wombat Says:

That backup QB is as good as our starting QB….

  15. Pelbuc61 Says:

Thank you Licht for drafting so many sorry DBs and forgetting both the Oline and Dline.

  16. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs got beat in every aspect of the game today. Winston picked up some garbage time yards in the last drive to get to over 200 yards but he had a rough game, having 2 picks negated by penalties and 2 others dropped. Both lines were continually beaten, even though there were a couple of good runs. Secondary is just young and inexperienced. Plus, the Bucs were badly outcoached.
Bucs still showing some improvement but have a very long way to go.
And oh, has anybody seen Mike Evans?

  17. JimmyJack Says:

get me a freaking break with this headline.

I expect nonsense from kneejerk fans……but Joe your a fan so OK I get it.

We got beat by one of the better teams in football today. We had our chances to win and to mount a comeback but they beat our players mono ah mono in the key moments.

We are a young team in a new system that is improving and working hard to get better. We just are not as good of a team as the Saints yet. There is nothing “same ol Bucs” about it.

The same ol Bucs would have no ability to rebound. If this team can learn & work hard and get better they will proove this headline totally false. We got a great opportunity ahead of us next week then 2 weeks to prepare for another great opportunity. Don’t compare this Bucs team to some of them patetic prior teams. Give them a chance to proove their worth.

  18. Anthony Turner Says:

There’s no way Winston should be blamed for this loss at all!!! The defense was atrocious yet again in the secondary how long will it be before Bowles realize that jamming receivers is an option when you have a secondary that’s suspect to coverage jamming not only takes the receiver off his route but allow the opposing QB to hesitate thus our pass rush will be effective if you constantly give the WRs cushion that’s gonna happen every game so Bowles do your job and fix this damn defense!

  19. Anonymous Says:

BucBandit is spot on. The Bucs can’t invest $25 million in mediocre JW when there are so many other glaring wholes in this team. And one of the holes might be the GM.

  20. DB55 Says:

This has been going on since Chucky was jettisoned
    —————–
Joe you haven’t heard but Bandit is drafting or trading for a QB who throws 10 for 10 with 1000 non-garbage time yards and 10 TDs. That’s right 70 points per game PLUS he kicks his own extra points and plays CB.

Bandits QB releases the ball in .02 seconds and if no one is open he just throws it up and catches his owns passes.

I say change the name to BanditsQuarterbackFan dot com and get ready for the Bucs to get back to winning multiple SB year after year like they always have.

It was a 7 point game in the end! Sean Payton is one of the best play caller’s ever ( it showed). He eliminated Barrett. He abused man coverages. The Bucs still played a tough game everything included. I have more faith in this 2-3 team than I have in years.
PS Saints beat Top NFC team Cowboys last week

  22. Bucfan1988 Says:

Reasons why the Bucs lost today:

    1) Bowles play-calling in 1st half was ULTRA-conservative for him. No blitzing…only rushing 4..Too much time given to Bridgewater to make throws.

    2) PATHETIC F’N JOKE of officiating with the fumble that 82 OBVIOUSLY recovered and the OBVIOUS offensive PI call on Saints WR, Michael Thomas.Definition of momentum killers.

    3) Leftwich got out coached by Saints D-Coordinator. Lack of getting OJ Howard involves, and not moving Evans more in the slot.

    4) Demar Dotson is DONE! Please pull him as he will get Jameis killed.

    5) Failure to start ROJO now as he has made his skill set quite apparent.

    6) Please DUMP VH3. HORRIBLE outside corner. All the big plays today happened against him…Mostly by Michael Thomas.

    7) Lastly to ALL Bucs corners that are playing press coverage on the LOS…
You ARE allowed to “chuck” and be physical with WR’s off the line up to 5 yards as long as you don’t hold them. Here’s a CRAZY idea, perhaps they should put on their big boy pants and quit allowing receivers to dictate the route. Otherwise, WHY PRESS??? Duhhhhhhh 😖😖😖!!!

  23. BucsBandit Says:

    @DB55,

Once again your lack of logic, reasonability, and critical-thinking skills has you enter into discussions you don’t stand a chance in winning.

Clinging to exaggerations is all you have because you know you’ll be annihilated in any sort of actual discussion.

No one is expecting the Bucs to draft a QB that goes 8-for-8 with 800 yards and 8 TDs like you love to cry and post whenever Winston plays badly.

Us realistic long-time Bucs fans will just setting for a QB that consistently completes over 60% of his passes, doesn’t hold the ball too long, learns to trust his reads & routes and deliver the ball quickly before WRs make their breaks (like ‘good’ NFL QB’s do), and not turn the ball over often.

It’s not Rocket Science. We don’t want a PERFECT QB to replace Winston when we know one that plays consistently AVERAGE will win us more games than Winston does.

  24. The Coroner Says:

Vea, first round pick last year, one tackle.
White, first round pick this year, no tackles; best ability is availability.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Bucsfan1988……I totally understand that Bridgewater had toouch time today……..But as a total effort of this DL this year we have done a real good job limiting that time.

I think it is unreasonable to expect the front 7 to take over every game and provide constant pressure for 60 mins.

Yes, I would like to see more pressure but if they get shut down that’s when you need other players to make plays….Our secondary has to be able to step up to the challenge. The front 7 has carried the backend all season. They secondary has to be able to contribute when needed.

For what it’s worth we were able to generate more pressure and hurries in the 2 nd half which was a decent sign cause it shows adjustment on Bowles part……..But it obvisously was not nearly enough and our secondary still could not make a play.

    Just my two sense.

  26. Dapostman Says:

The Bandit is like Sybil. He has different personalities after a Bucs game. Win and he’s sweet as pie. Lose and his anti Winston side comes out like Rupaul.

    It’s actually hilarious to read.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Bandit you are babbling…..Winston has had a good season so far.

We had big problems today on OL and secondary.

Winston tied it up and he brought us to within stiking distance once and then kinda did at the end with the onsides kick chance.

But he was not a key to this game and your focus is clearly in the wrong spot…….In the key moments of this game & when we had our chances to go for the win it was the OL that gave up the negative plays…….Or if you look defense it was the secondary who couldn’t perform their jobs.

And this happens when you play teams that are better then you. They exposed our weaknesses and we were not good enough to stop them.

As for Winston his team gets a better matchup next week and he has a chance to lead us to a W. Let the season play out.

  28. Alanbucsfan Says:

That was not the same ol Bucs…
Saints have a great D, Bucs had a couple calls go against them.
Davis was kicked out in 1st half, Dean and J Evans are hurt
Saints D Line dominated in 2nd half except for the fabulous drive the Bucs had in 3rd quarter.
    M Thomas showed up
    M Evans did not
It’s 1 game- Saints were better today.

  29. Pewter power Says:

Same ol bucs? Wow really you probably couldn’t wait to type that huh. I’m sure this is the hater that doesn’t even realize he always has something to say

Stupid if you and anyone else cant realize New Orleans has a better team which is why we lost. Did you not see the o line a d line. They have a better all around team but apparently Joe’s think we should go 16-0……..hater

  30. gambelero Says:

Arians made an inexcusable error himself. He could have used a timeout at the end of the half on defense. We get the ball back with 1:10 seconds and one time out. Instead the Saints run down the clock and score with 32 seconds. You’ve seen other coaches save a possession by using timeouts on defense. The Saints had the ball first and goal with 1:18 left and two timeouts. How does letting the clock run down make sense? We lost a possession, the Saints essentially got the ball back to back, scored touchdowns and it was 24-10.

  31. Locked in Says:

@Realist, it’s safe to come out now.

  32. JimmyJack Says:

Last I checked when we were down to one of our last chances and had to make plays to win the game our HC pulled one of our OL out of the game. He didn’t pull the QB it was an OL……….That should tell you all you need to know about what went wrong with our offense today.

Or just blame the QB. Free country I guess…….But if you gonna be like that you darn sure better credit the QB when we win. Didn’t happen last time we played Carolina……Be critical, OK, but be consistent or it’s easy to see you are two Faced.

  33. Mike Johnson Says:

I expected this. We still can do 8-8 this season. Go O and D linemen in the next draft and free agency. You guys got a shot at what a real Defensive front 4 looks like. Jameis is gonna be sore as hell TMW. Hopefully we can go into the bye at 3-3

  34. BucEmUp Says:

Russell Wilson, DeShaun Watson and Dak Prescott couldn’t beat the Saints and they’re mostly rated higher than Winston. Y’all expect Winston to go lights out when he’s getting clobbered on every play. Not one game this season so far where Winston played and not gotten sacked.

Bandit you’re a moron and your schtick has grown tired and boring. Do you count almost touchdowns too? How about almost receptions? Maybe almost tackles on defense too?

Lol, idiot. Jameis ain’t why we lost, even if it was a sub par day.

  37. Michael Says:

Been a season ticket holder since 2000. If the Buccaneers do not have at least a 9 win season…I’m done. They don’t care…so why should I?

  38. Buczilla Says:

I’m close believing that its time to blow it all up and start over AGAIN, but it’s too early for that. Licht should have been gone along with Koetter and I don’t care if we would never have gotten Arians. Some noob college coach or nfl retread could have gotten us to 2-3. Gosh, you have got to have the patience of a saint to stick with this team year in and year out.

  39. Kent Kleist Says:

What was ba thinking challenging the no interference call on Evan’s man today? Doesn’t he know the non call must be egregious? He has mentally goofed in each game. Very disappointing

Nothing in the way of critical comments and especially critical thinking over there. So long Ndog, take DB55 with you.

  41. Anonymous Says:

This team sucks and Winston can’t carry it because he sucks too. Having 1/3 great games, 1/3 okay games, and 1/3 terrible games is bad enough, but when your team also sucks MORE than half the time, that makes for less than .400 all the time overall. They can spend a million on a rookie QB who will do as well as Jameis and use the rest of the cast to put other better players on the field. Paying Winston isn’t going to let this team get better. And by being here he is not making it better either. Enter Jones, Murray, and Bridgewater all doing BETTER than Winston and the Bucs.
