Report: Le’Veon Bell Is Available

October 29th, 2019

More Le’Veon Bell chatter.

This is thought-provoking.

Joe’s not going to reset the whole Le’Veon Bell saga, but he’s no Antonio Brown, for those who confuse the two former Steelers.

Bell, the star running back, landed with the Jets in the offseason and has struggled with the rest of the Jets alongside a head coach who didn’t want Bell at his big price tag but didn’t have the power at the time to stop a free agent signing.

Bell also was victimized this season by the Jets have a backup QB on the field that made Mike Glennon look like Philip Rivers.

Today, Jets beat writer Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets are open to trading Bell before the 4 p.m. deadline this afternoon.

Bell shouldn’t command much, primarily because the Jets didn’t spend any picks to get him, only cash. So it’s not like they’re trying to cover for a draft pick gone wrong. Bell, 27, is due $13.5 million next season, and after that his guaranteed money is gone.

Joe’s not lobbying for Bell, but Joe certainly would cheer if the Bucs found a way to get smart and creative to land Bell’s services. Perhaps the Bucs would consider clearing out a significant salary like Cameron Brate’s and getting the Jets to take Vernon Hargreaves off their hands.

Adding Bell would fill a need and gift a potential new rookie QB a running game in 2020 to complement Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. And it also likely would be awfully entertaining.

This is just Joe thinking out loud. Remember what Bruce Arians told the Ira Kaufman Podcast, “I don’t overpay for that position.”

  1. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

    We’re set at Running Back.

    BA said so.

  2. Dewey Selmon Says:

Why would he leave one train wreck to go to another? Trade OJ for him if BA is so intent on getting rid of him.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

he has way too much talent bucfan hates talent….. bucfan wants career losers who lose quietly and have more excuses than wins

  4. Bruce Blahak Says:

    TEAM CANCER!!!!!

  5. Robert Says:

Unless he can cure JW’s turnovers, whats the point?

  6. Greg Says:

please stop the nonsense Joe! I know you’re desperate for clicks but this would be idiotic on a whole new level. Bill has proven what I’ve said all along which is he was in a perfect system in Pittsburgh. His decline in performance with the Jets shows it’s not all about the running back. We have the worst offense of line in football. A horrible running skiing. Why would we give up our future for an overpriced bandaid. Stop falling in love with names

  7. 813bucboi Says:

    we’re not a RB1 away from being a contender….

our first order of business sitting JW….

no need for him to “turn it on” the last 3games of the season crushing our draft chances of getting a true impact player like chase young or having folks say, “see, if JW can play like he did the last 3 games we’ll be in great shape”…..lol….

    thats JWs M.O……

play well the last 3 games of the season, crush our draft chances and return for another year….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. Robert Says:

Best news of the last 5 years would be if they traded JW today.

  9. DooshLaRue Says:

    Well Joe…..

At first I was “hell no, not again with your crazy talk” but your ideas about Brate, VH3 and rookie QB are intriguing and quite possibly…. sound.

I hope Gump is reading this.

  10. Bruce Blahak Says:

Andy Dalton for WinSTUNNED….he’s available, benched!

  11. Rick Says:

I’d rather go after Trent Williams from the Skins. RT.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Let’s replace our rb production from 3.8 with a over paid player that averages 2.2?

  13. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Andy Dalton benched. Now they see what their backup is capable of before going in blind into the draft.

    Take note Glazers!

  14. TampaBay55 Says:

    ROBERT

For what? A bag of chips? The guy has no trade value, don’t fool yourself.

  15. Waterboy Says:

Pittsburgh should trade for him. He’s making close to what they offered him before he sat out a year.

  16. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Who here would give up Winston to get Bell?

    Yes please.

  17. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    Nope…wrong answer

  18. Kord Says:

Less Le’Veon, more hoping Winston gets traded, cause he’s gonna send half the Seahawks defense to the pro bowl this Sunday I’m afraid

  19. Sarasota Garey Says:

Yeah, because we have salary cap space for that.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    How about Dee Ford?

  21. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Hard for any RB to be successful consistently behind this line

  22. Tye Says:

unless the Bucs find a competent qb who can lead this team valiantly to win games, why would any vets want to come here to deal with this sewage…
Incompetent qb, an OC that should be replaced and a hc that makes excuses and condones the putrid work his people are producing!

  23. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Would they take Perriman, Licht, Hargreaves and Brate?

  24. down in the dirt doug Says:

We can always dream.Yes there is a lot wrong with this, but it would renew the fan base.

  25. runnerdoc Says:

he’s exactly what they need, as they only have two places too go with the ball and driving the ball down the field with no viable short or intermediate options keeps them in trouble. However, he’s too expensive.

  26. Warrenfb12 Says:

So trade off Shaq Barrett but buy in on Bell?

  27. zzbuc Says:

We do not have the money, because or Einstein GM spend it in SEVERAL CB that are usless!!!!!

  28. buc15 Says:

let me type slow so you can understand me…WE DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY!!!

  29. TexBuc Says:

My vote is never should a team spend that much on any RB. Shelf life too short, RBs take too much of a beating throughtout their careers. RB’s on second big contracts rarely produce the same yardage that got them the big contract. The Jets even with L Bell are losing. Just keep drafting one every other year and let leave on free agency.

  30. NPRSageBoy Says:

We need Bell like another hole in the head.

    O Line in shambles.
Defense can’t stop a stiff breeze
    QB is a turnover machine
    Wide Outs cut routes short.

Seriously? Bell is the last piece we need.

    Peace, out

  31. TexBuc Says:

    Dewey S.

I believe OJ is the one pushing for a trade if we do not want to use him in the passing game. OJ’s comments after it came out Patriots offered a 2nd for him indicated he wanted that trade, and then had hamstring wed, and then no practice on thru.

  32. unbelievable Says:

    LOL,

Yea I’m sure this will fix the o-line, and the d-line, and the DBs, and the QB, and the WRs, and the terrible offensive game plans…

    Lol.

  33. Tye Says:

Mr ‘Whisperer’ can’t fix JW, that has been settled..
BUT what can he do with:
    Andy Dalton
Eli Manning (I know he has a no trade clause)
Marcus Mariota (that would be strange but if we win. YA!)
    Nick Foles

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Pass. Just like when it was suggested in the off season.

  35. Kord Says:

Chargers fire oc, Bengals bench dalton, please Bucs do something…but we all know Bucs will do no such things

  36. Sharthappens Says:

Trade the retard QB fro him

  37. Pewter power Says:

I’m not saying trade for him but I am saying his salary would be covered easily if they move on from winston but cant have them both. Dont move on from winston draft a rookie quarterback and make the same stupid mistake of not giving him a run game again. Get a bonafide running back and that would make it easier to swallow starting another rookie at quarterback

But licht isn’t smart enough to look at his team in a realistic view.

  38. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Per Joe, DONE DEAL !!! WINSTON IS TOAST!!! YAY!!

  39. DBS Says:

I would take him over what we have now . But the Oline still has to be addressed and QB. Also is the coach going to use him right or sos plays. But I don’t see it being to early to start for putting pieces in place for next year. Because this one is done.

  40. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

    Laughable suggestion by JBF

  41. 813bucboi Says:

dont bench JW until week 13…..

let JW guide us to a top3 pick…..

we wont start playing well until we have nothing to play for…..thats when JWs at his best….when it doesnt matter…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  42. Steven007 Says:

I never knew the extra clicks were worth the time it took to write this article. Bell is never ever ever ever ever coming here (nor should he). And the Joes know it.

  43. Kord Says:

Dalton could use some Florida sun, Jameis should be exhiled to guam

  44. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Pass pass pass we ain’t doing jack gtfo JW is going to be extended haters walk the plank go support the panthers or the aints

  45. Carrollwood Mafia Says:

Why not give Ronald Jones 15-20 carries a game the next few weeks to see what he can do?

  46. PUGS&BUCS Says:

“Adding Bell would fill a need and gift a potential new rookie QB a running game in 2020 ….”

So we’ll give the NEXT QB what the Bucs should have given Jameis for FOUR G-D YEARS? WHAT So STH like myself can suffer through another 3-6 years of losing until what? Bell has 2-3 good years left. The one year JW had a 1000 yard rusher he had a winning record.

  47. Denjoe Says:

I doubt we make any trades, glazers and their idiot GM will sacrifice another season.

  48. Steven007 Says:

Jets also shopping Jamal Adams. A much much better option if they go that route.

  49. BucFan81 Says:

but can he play QB? I just saw the Bengals have benched Andy Dalton. How do all these teams bench their starting QB but we are stuck with the turnover machine that is JW.

  50. BucFan81 Says:

Damn Aqib Talib traded to Miami how pissed you think that guy is right now to go from the rams to that rebuild project. As we all sit here and watch Gump do nothing..

  51. Gman Says:

what is the point? we are 2 dash 5, not 5 dash 2….how stupid is this? we are sellers

  52. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

The Clueless Joe thinks a RB doesn’t need an o line to block and good RBs make long runs solo. So we all know who wrote this post

  53. CAbucsfan Says:

Talib just got traded for peanuts to Dolphins and is a free agent at the end of the year. BA needs to bring back the chain stealing, cab thumping CB to fix our secondary. I am sure Talib would rather come back to Tampa than play with the Suckfins.
    Laveon Bell for OJ?
hate seeing old Bucs players win rings with other teams and OJ to NE would be just a matter of time so trade him the the JETS for Bell straight up

  54. tmaxcon Says:

    BucFan81

Talib is on injured reserve and not playing it was a salary dump by Miami nothing more. talib will never play for dolphins he is not even eligible to come off ir until week 15

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Trade for CB William Jackson III

  56. Aceofaerospace Says:

Why? So he can backup Barber?

  57. Mike Johnson Says:

One of the Greatest things about you Joe is you love to throw in some laughs for us here and there. I luv it. Bell or any other player being available during trade deadline is like saying….,Somewhere on a distant planet….The TB Bucs are mulling…. Thanks for making my day dude!

  58. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

    “Trade for him but

he needs to get in line

I am designing 10 plays for Dare Owhatdoido for Seattle’s game”

    Gary Coleman

  59. lambchop Says:

Talib is pissed he’s going to the Dolphins! Lol, a situation worse than the Bucs.

  60. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Trading for Leveon would be a new level of idiotic. This team has no running game because of OL and coaching issues. Leveon isn’t doing anything for the Jets, why would he suddenly do something for us?? The Steelers lost Leveon and immediately replaced him with someone who is just as productive. Running backs just don’t matter anymore Joe, get that through your skull.

  61. Allbuccedup Says:

Who cares you can a 4th rounder in the 2020 draft better than him and a hell of a lot cheaper.

  62. LUVMYBUCS Says:

The New England Patriots have made 9 trades over the past 10 wks- to improve the overall quality of their team. Meanwhile the BUCS haven’t budged an inch.

  63. Jean Lafitte Says:

perfect example of a running back that thrived behind Pitts o-line but is JAG behind the Jets o-line. Please pay attention Joe. It’s not always about the shiny new toy. Do you really believe Bell could thrive behind our o-line?

  64. Greg Says:

I LOVE how the bloggers are finally smelling the BS. There is no logic, cap space, or desire from anyone at one buc place to make this move Joe calls chatter. Complete fabrication from Joe to get clicks and it works.

  65. Tackleblockwin Says:

Let’s just trade anything valuable including future 1st rounders for Bill Belichick.

  66. BigMacAttack Says:

Haha Bell won’t do anything behind this O line.

  67. SmittyToiletBowles Says:

. Of course he has talent Maxipad. The most talented team in the league is 2-5. Thats your browns not your bucs. Everyone in the league minus Perriman has talent(kidding B). Its about playing smart and as one, among other things. Bell is available because he isnt a team player. We need smarter team first guys not chump change.

  68. Marlow1976 Says:

    Click bait… LOL

  69. DooshLaRue Says:

    @813

No truer statement has ever been made about the Soiled Messiah!

    Thanks

  70. BucsFan727 Says:

We dont run the ball enough for are current backs. Bell would fit this offence. A receiving back who blocks. Barber is a back up. Rojo is still getting his feet wet behind a lack luster run blocking oline.

  71. catcard202 Says:

Big contract RB’s are bad investments, in today’s NFL. Especially so, for a Bucs team that has inferior running blocking technique & only marginally better pass protection.

Not sold on Le’Veon being a “game changer” outside the steel city… IMO, a huge portion of his success was a product of the Steeler’s offensive scheme & capabilities of the surrounding offensive assets….James Conner is proving that out & you can damn well bet Benny Snell will be very success in that power run game/play-action offense.
