No Street Cred

October 4th, 2019

Changing a narrative.

If Bucs fans want to know what those who live outside the area think of the Bucs, even after they dismantled the Rams on Sunday, they only had to listen to Joe Buck last night.

St. Petersburg-born Buck calls Thursday Night Football games for FOX and, as expected in the opening moments of the Rams-Seahawks game, Buck referred to the Bucs-Rams results.

When discussing the Rams’ defense, Buck said, “The Rams allowed Jameis Winston… “

Allowed! To hear Buck, the Rams willingly tolerated America’s Quarterback and his offense running up 48 points on them — actually got out of their way so  not to bump into any Bucs offensive player.

It was as if Jameis Winston, when the Bucs offense took the field in the fourth quarter, walked up to Rams corner Marcus Peters and asked in a Beaver Cleaver-like way, “Gee Mr. Peters, do you mind if I throw this here football to Mike Evans?” And Peters responded, “Sure kid, I’ve already had my second contract. Go ahead.”

Later, Buck mentioned the “shocking loss” of the Rams to the Bucs.

Shocking! It was a one-score game until Ndamukong Suh scooped-and-scored. A one-score game with less than two minutes left. So Buck believed it was “shocking” the Bucs and Rams were in a one-score game? Imagine, an NFL game right down to the wire. Yet Buck thought it was shocking.

Joe threw this stuff on Twitter last night and some Bucs fans took offense. Understandable. But this is why many outside of the Tampa Bay area look down upon the Bucs and think the team is still a joke.

This team, in the post-Chucky era, has established a well-deserved reputation if not a nasty habit of stepping on a rake after a big win. Hell, the Bucs have done that already this season. Beat the Stinking Panthers on the road on national television then vomit all over the place and choke away a home win against a rookie quarterback in his NFL debut.

You know how after a touchdown Linus has the ball pulled away on the extra-point by Lucy?

You’ve heard the phrase before, “Same ol’ Bucs?” This is why.

Or more recently, #ItsABucsLife.

Too many people have seen this movie too many times since 2009.

So, so, so many times the Bucs have had wins that got the nation’s attention only to get blasted the very next week. The last time Joe can remember the Bucs stringing together a few special wins was 2016. Not coincidentally, the Bucs made a run at a wild card.

Unfortunately, the Bucs’ disrespect has been earned.

Want to change the narrative? The Bucs have it in their power to do just that on Sunday. Facing a division foe starting a backup quarterback is an opportunity for to earn respect and taking over first place in the division. In October!

So what will the Bucs do, beat the Saints and make a statement? Or step in the pile of mule dung in the French Quarter and lose big?

when we beat the saints, it’ll be because they didnt have brees…..lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  2. Casey Morgan Says:

    31-17 Bucs

  3. LargoBuc Says:

The Rams didn’t let us do spit! We took what we wanted and there was nothing that they could do about it!

  4. Slugglife Says:

Joe Buck is one of the most biased commentators right behind the D-bag collinsworth.

They pick their favorites, most likely they got money laying on the line, and hope for the result they want through wishful thinking.

  5. Jeff Says:

Buck is a front running clown. Aikman carries him big time.

  6. Slugglife Says:

There is no reason to wish for the media to give our team any love. Who FN cares?

The chips will fall where they may. It starts with beating the crap out of the Saints this weekend. And the Panthers next. Then the stranglehold on this division shall commence.

Want street cred? Make the playoffs and win a game.

  8. zzbuc Says:

They have an argument, no doubt about that…….Its on us to change it……

  9. Anonymous Says:

Still a joke. They won ONE game at that was barely given the rate at which the Rams were coming back. Great win, but you don’t build reps on ONE game. Period.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

unlike desperate low standard bucfan normal people like to see consistency before labeling a team great or even good. bucs have earned the moniker of worst franchise in sports…. it took bucs years to compile all those embarrassing moments and losses….. one win over a good team does not ERASE that

Buck is great with baseball, not so much with football.

  14. Buc4evr Says:

Street Cred is not important. I don’t care what the talking heads are saying either. The only thing that counts are Wins.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

We are the Buccaneers! We rob, pillage, plunder and take what we want. We’re heading to New Orleans and our Bucs will put one on the Saints to make New Orleans forget about their most famous pirate Jean Lafitte.

A guy can dream can’t he. LMAO

We are .500…if we can reach the halfway point at .500 all we need to do is win 6 of our final 8 and maybe even 5 given the balance this year…to reach the playoffs and the schedule goes from our brutal first half to a much more manageable second half…5 of 8 at home.

Speaking of home…people have been talking metrics like the one Joe just posted. We have to stop yakking it up after a big win….here is something just as important IMHO.

The Bucs simply MUST start winning at home. It’s an absolute necessity. The good teams protect their own crib…the great teams are hard to beat in their own house. Right now NFL teams probably prefer to play us at RayJay and not their own home…other than the travel.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

Until this team wins consistently, can you blame the media of thinking “Same Old Bucs?”

We have seen this movie before.

Just shut up and win. Beating NO on the road, and then the Kitties in London will make a lot of people pay attention. Fall flat and you’re on ignore again.

  17. BUCLUV55 Says:

Joe Buck- first rate hack. Kinda like another Joe….

  18. NeersGuru Says:

We also beat the Eagles and the Saints in one-score games to start last season. Eagles coming off a Super Bowl WIN. Ended that one 5-11. I’m waiting until we are above .500 by a few games (hopefully around halfway mark) to start heaping praise on this team.

  19. unbelievable Says:

Keep winning, and respect will come.

The truth is we don’t deserve it yet. The Giants game is what people expect from this franchise, and you can’t fault them for that.

Just win baby! Everything else will fall into place. We do better as the underdog anyways.

  20. Locked In Says:

Win the next 2 and don’t blow the games against the Falcons! The sheep want to see it!!!!!!!!!

  21. tnew Says:

This is a good, no GREAT thing. This core group has not shown an ability to handle winning. Lets wait and see if they can handle prosperity. Sometimes when a group has been losing for a LONG time, the very hardest thing is that lingering doubt that they really aren’t that good. This is the next hurdle. Stack some games together.

  22. K2 Says:

You don’t need to go to the national media to find negative opinions. So called Buc fans constantly ride… even the good players. We hear about a no talent on a team in salary cap hell. Many want to fire Licht, all the coaches, Jameis, the o-line, the d-line and now the focus is on the d-backs. As little as three weeks ago Cappa was “hot garbage.” Don’t forget Vea was a wasted pick. It took Ronde Barber 2.5-3 years before he developed. However, our guys with four games need to be replaced…another failed draft. It took Dungy about 8 games to turn around the Bucs and Arians about 8 games for Arizona to click. I agree the team needs to earn respect…and the national media will take longer. I don’t think the Bucs are suddenly a great team. However, it seems that they are on the right track…finally. I don’t understand why some fans cheer any of the team’s problems and failure more than their success. So the guy who predicted 2-14 is hoping that the Bucs loose the rest…so he or she can be right. Great fan!

  23. Oregonbucsfan Says:

K2, I predicted 6-19 for the year. If they wind up 10-6 I would be ecstatic. But, I’ll wait until that happens before I celebrate.

  24. Pete Says:

    Win the next 2 games!!!

  25. Little Bo Peep 🤡❗️ Says:

During the 2019 NFL Regular Season, ( Last Year ❗️) The Bucs won one the biggest regular season games in many moons by defeating the DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPION PHILADELPHIA EAGLES in week 2. That was after the Bucs defeated the New Orleans Saints in Week 1❗️The Tampa Bay Buccaneers In fact did not choked like a dog vs the Eagles after thier big win vs New Orlanes. So the Bucs proved to the entire world that they can win back to back games vs top NFL teams. I wonder if any of the local or national media, Including Mr Joe Buck of Fox Sports ever told the public this FACT 😀❗️
I know the great Ira Kaufman DID ❗️Thanks, GO BUCS 😃❗️

  26. MtBucsFan Says:

I want them to keep that narrative up. Keep underestimating us. Thats when you get smacked in the mouth hardest is when you least expect it. This team has a whole different feeling and swagger to it than the last few years. We will string some good wins together and people will notice.

when we beat the saints, it’ll be because they didnt have brees…..lol….

I’d rather have Brees than a backup QB. Forgot the Giants game? And way too many others.

  28. McBuc Says:

I think it was a shock to most people that the Bucs beat the Rams. Vegas had the Rams by 91/2. Joe Buck does suck though. It is typical talking head speak. The Bucs allowed the Rams to get back in the game scoring 40 points. You always hear that kind of thing. You may be reading too much into it, but again, Joe Buck sucks and should not even be on there.

  29. Rick Says:

Not to mention them refer to it as “an embarrassing loss” . “The rams are going through a Super Bowl hangover. “ How the hell is it a SB hangover going into the game undefeated? The disrespect…

  30. Boombang Says:

@813bucboi: Last I heard Brees was the QB…..It will be our offense against the Saints defense….Let’s see if the defense stops our offense.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    d.jones was unknown…..

folks know teddy’s strength and weaknesses….plenty of film on him…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

    brees playing sunday?…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  33. james west Says:

4-2 at THE BYE, then we get JPP back, maybe even a surprise early christmas present, could you imagine patrick peterson in our backfield, how’s that for a lineup vita vea, suh, barrett, jpp, nassib, peterson whitehead, among our other db’s it’s getting better all the time

  34. D-Rome Says:

C’mon Joe, how many times have you said “The Bucs defense allowed…”? Probably more often than you care to admit. No one, outside of the pollyanas who believed the Bucs were going 16-0, thought this team was going to beat the Rams on the road.

  35. Piratic Says:

You SURE DO hate you some Joe Buck, JoeBucsFan.
    Comically ironical.

Tell us, WHY do you hate him?

    This should be good.

  36. Joe Says:

Tell us, WHY do you hate him?

Don’t hate him. Just not fond of style and arrogance over substance.

    He’s not his old man.

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Joe

“He’s not his old man.” As a guy who once did PBP I couldn’t agree more.

Like you though it’s not so much that I dislike Buck…I do agree with the poster who pointed out he’s much better on baseball than football…it’s just that he’s not as good as his old man.

JACK Buck had one of sports broadcasting’s golden voices. Pat Summerall had a great set of pipes as well. Joe has a decent voice but nowhere near his father.

JACK Buck was technically as sound a PBP guy as I can remember. Joe is good but not exceptional technically. Joe offers a lot of opinion…perhaps called for in today’s market…JACK called em straight up.

Can you tell I was a huge JACK Buck fan? Summeral, Enberg, Keith Jackson…man those were the glory days of announcing…yeah I’m and old school guy.

  38. CPN Says:

Joe Buck is awesome even if he is just monotone. I mean one of the best calls was against the Bucs.

    Mitchell…….. Mitchell…….. Mitchell……. down to the 25.

  39. Papa578 Says:

Joe Buck = Uncle Buck. Everyone has an opinion. Kind of like everyone has a … well you get it..
Buc fans are happy for the win. The Buccos played 60 minutes and got the “W”. I’ll take it even if the Rams “allowed it”..

  40. Lunchbox Says:

This disrespect shouldn’t surprise anyone. As Joe said, the Bucs have made that bed for themselves by being a comically inconsistent franchise for almost all but a few years. But as others have said, keep winning, and it will force others to reevaluate their positions about the Bucs. I believe we’ve got the horses and the coaches to do it this year. Time will tell.
P.S. Joe, it was Charlie Brown that Lucy picked up the football for. She’d never do that to Linus lol

  41. rhenry Says:

Who cares what Joe Buck or any non Buc fan thinks.

  42. Hodad Says:

Joe Buck, and his brain dead boyfriend Troy. I wonder who get’s on top?

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs kicked the Rams A** period. We simply outscored them. Something we will NOT..be able to do against all teams. However, the only way that SOB (same ole Bucs) mantra will change is IF..we start winning consistently. How about starting in Saints Country?!
