Limp Biscuit

Analyst fingers Bucs coach.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians swaggered into One Buc Palace this past January with a bulging resume and a gunfighter’s cockiness.

And why not? The guy learned much of the game of football at the feet of Bear Bryant who molded quarterbacks wherever he went. His offenses were daring, high-flying and Arians liked to throw around the term, “No risk-it, no biscuit.”

Bucs fans are beginning to wonder if Arians left that same magic in his lakefront Georgia pad.

Oh sure, he turns it loose once in a while. But in critical situations, Arians has gone full-blown turtle. The second half of the loss to the Giants is one example when the team blew a big lead.

Then there was Sunday. Tom Gower of Football Outsiders suggests there is nothing daring or cool about Arians’ oversight of the current Bucs offense, which seems to love pounding the ball up the middle on first down with Peyton Barber, with predictable subpar results.

“No risk it, no biscuit” Bruce Arians punting twice on fourth-and-1 holding on to a narrow lead in the second half, including from the Titans 43, necessitating the late fourth down go-for-it.

Yeah, the punt on fourth down in Titans territory was really weak. If you don’t trust your offense to get one yard, especially in enemy territory, then what’s the point? Then again, the Bucs do like to throw the ball to Breshad Perriman and Dare Ogunbowale.

Instead last Sunday, Arians chose to shoot himself in the foot, in part, by leaving that weapon holstered.

@JOE —-Dude – our PLAY IS — Byron either sends Barber or Ocutmesoon up the MIDDLE….of our Oline….please… ROJO is a ghost, for sweeps that take advantage of his speed…

We showed some imagination vs Rams, and seemed to close the book, on those successful plays. Thanks Byron Leftwich

  3. Tye Says:

The moment I 1st heard he got the job I thought, ‘if he can find a talent at QB then this could be the Bucs time to win again!’ … When I heard him say he liked ‘Turnover’ and thought he would make a good QB, I suddenly felt, ‘this will room his legacy!’…
Oh well… What could have been!

  4. Tye Says:

    Doom his legacy

Limp Biscuit, Good one joe that seems right..lol

  6. DayOnePaul Says:

I find myself after six games, starting to feel about Byron Leftwich as an offensive coordinator the same as I felt about him as a quarterback. He’s soft, undertalented and overmatched.

Lovie 2.0 with more entertaining BS

  8. Petty Officer Buc Says:

What exactly was this hacks plan when coming out of retirement? That he would let Leftwich completely run the offense, Bowles run the defense, bring in a bunch of Arizona castoffs, and he would somehow be the savior of the Buccaneers and cement his legacy? The more I watch the more I realize his legacy is being gifted multiple top QBs his entire career. It’s why he is terrified of, GASP!, dealing with an unproven rookie QB. So much for the “whisperer”.

He has completely mailed it in.

Hey guys is the dude who wrote that really long Jameis Winston book actually Jason Licht?

Doubtful but could you imagine. also I don’t know about this team maybe we want to tank maybe we don’t maybe everyone has just lost their minds.

  10. Joe Says:

Hey guys is the dude who wrote that really long Jameis Winston book actually Jason Licht?

    No.

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

You cannot win with Jason Licht as a gm and Jarmis as your Qb- no matter who the coach
    Period… end of story

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    Destinjohnny

Let me remind you no gm or qb has ever won consistently in Tampa ever … this franchise was a laughingstock way before licht and Jameis and will be a laughingstock until team is moved or folded….

  13. Sport Says:

Shill Joe shows his classless trait yet once again. Should be interesting getting answers from BA with your elementary style humor and name calling. Hopefully you don’t cross the line against a ‘protected class’ like your commenters do on a regular basis. Then someone might bring a case against you and your blog site.

I guess it plays to a good portion of your emotionally and mentally underdeveloped blog readers.

    Losing brings out the worst…

    In BA I Trust!

  14. TonyC Says:

So apparently the fan base will have o wait an entire season for the current coaching staff to realize they don’t have the personnel to win now. So if this team goes 4-12 what happens then?

  15. richbucsfan Says:

I’m just as frustrated as anybody else. Disgusted, actually. However, being from Pittsburgh, I remember Chuck Noll’s first season. It was awful. He re-tooled things and the rest is history. Maybe this is Arian’s Chuck Noll season…probably not, but at least it takes some edge off for a minute.

  16. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Many fans are going to want to offload BA and his gang by season’s end. There is no was we are going to fix this team if cut all our coaches every 2 years. We need some stability in the coaching staff. BA has shown the ability to coach and his position coaches under him are better than we have had in a long time.

The main problem in Licht and his scouting department. They suck when it comes to evaluating and drafting young talent. Can’t understand why Licht’s contract was extended this year.

This team is young and we only need a few good players to improve. BA has been know to coach young QB. We need to jettison Jameis and beef up both lines. If we can lock down a shutdown CB in the offseason and draft a QB in the first round, I think next year will be better going forward.

“Analyst fingers Bucs coach” Sounds odd but you likely would get more of a reaction if you fingered the Golf Cart.

Bruce “Lack of Preparation H” Arians

  19. Hodad Says:

Bruce is a good used car salesman, and he sold the Glazers a lemon. Yeah Licht, Jameis, they all suck, but none more then the clueless Glazer boys. Maybe they should let their sister pick the next G.M., and coach. As long as they run this team it will be a money maker, but not a winner. If it makes anyone feel any better the limeys in England hate that they own Man U also.

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

Jacksonville’s alt metal band Limp Bizkit is probably contemplating taking action against BA and the Bucs for defamation of their name and likeness. Right now BA simply looks like a retread who spouted off a lot early but is gonna leave with a wimper like certain other coaches who got another job on name recognition like Dana Holgorson at UH, Tommy Tuberville at Cincy, Charlie Strong, Sam Wyche, Muschamp at USC East, Jeff Fisher with the Rams and countless other failed coaching comebacks but hey at least Charlie got 4 wins @ USF which probably guarantee him a better season than BA…..

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

2-5, this is what losers do. Point fingers.
I mean it couldn’t possibly be because:
-#32 and #31 defense in as many years in the NFL re-schemed to 3-4
-Roster lacking talent or depth from years of poor management (see OL and DL)
-No money for free agents (see above)
-League leader in turnovers attempting to run a new offense

No, it couldn’t be any of that.

  22. Jean Lafitte Says:

Yes, I agree about punting on their 43. That was an opportunity late in the game thrown away.

  23. Defense Rules Says:

@AlabamaBucsFan … “BA has shown the ability to coach and his position coaches under him are better than we have had in a long time.”

Excellent point Bama. With one exception IMO: Byron Leftwich. BL simply isn’t getting the job done & the cost of his On-The-Job-Training has become prohibitive. This offense has regressed a considerable amount & I think that needs to be laid at the feet of three people: Byron Leftwich, Bruce Arians & Jason Licht.

BL because he’s making recurring rookie OC mistakes & it’s hurting the team. BA because he’s allowing that to go one; he’s the Head Coach, not the Delegator-in-Charge. And JL because he’s responsible for building this OLine, and THAT’S the root cause of the poor offensive performances that we’re seeing ON THE FIELD.

Jameis certainly has his problems, but he’s never looked THIS bad. And it’s largely because he’s continually getting pummeled behind this OLine. Our RBs have their problems, but they’re actually performing worse than last year as a position group. And that’s largely because of our run blocking. Our WRs have their problems, but until this last game ME13 was catching LESS THAN 50% of the balls thrown to him. I don’t care how many yards he gets, that’s ludicrous for a $20 mil receiver. Perriman, Watson & Miller are cumulatively catching at a 25% rate (and BoBo was so bad he was cut). That’s even more ludicrous. Our TEs have their problems, but their productivity has been close to non-existent. Too much blocking; too little route running … because our OLine can’t hack it. Ridiculous.

If this season is to be salvaged, or even if we’re gonna be able to reasonably evaluate individual players for future employment, Bucs HAVE TO get a handle on this offense. It simply can’t be allowed to play like it has these past 2 games. And the only way to do that is to repair the OLine as best we can AND modify our game-planning to better account for what we can’t AND can’t do at this point in time. HOPEFULLY getting Cappa back will help. Since the trading deadline has passed (thank you once again Jason) there’s no help there, but we MIGHT find a useful body or two on someone else’s Practice Squad; you never know. More than likely though, we’ve got what we’ve got. BA needs to grab the reins and figure out how to use that better or this season really is down the tubes.

if jameis was in the army he would be a jarhead… for sure…

so why don’t we call him:

    jarhead jameis

it kinda has a nice flow and ring to it…

Learned football at the feet of Bear Bryant?

This is a results league not a resume league…..strictly What Have You Done Lately…

Guy was great a hiring a HUGE staff…..but what else, lately?

  26. GhostofSchiano Says:

So it is officially draft talk time?

  27. Pancake block Says:

That 4th and a yard, where Perriman tackled barber in the backfield pretty much sealed the season for me. No more wasted Sunday’s for me. See you around April

  28. Allbuccedup Says:

Hes all BS the way this team is playing its all on him. If the receivers are running the wrong routes, if the offensive line is causing all the fumbles, if Jameis thinks he has to be superman, if you have no depth and why is that? I thought BS would be a lot better than this. I can see why he retired when he did. I see his protege Kitchens is not doing any better, probably his previous training.

  29. NPRSageBoy Says:

BA is clearly a BS artist of the highest degree. He’s gonna be lucky to match the Dirk Koetter standard of 5-11.

    Peace, out

  30. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Very funny-

Arians, the 2 time coach of year, who has successfully coached numerous playoff and pro bowl qb’s, is the reason for Jameis’ losing qb play….

    Got more jokes?

  31. Bosch Says:

Why wait Glazers? Raise ticket prices now! Visiting teams’ fans will pay most anything to watch their mediocre team thrash the Bucs. They can even watch from great seats due to all the season ticket no shows.

  32. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Hopefully BA was bought a nice strong drink before he got fingered

  33. Anonymous Says:

Beef up both trenches add some secondary help maybe a running back. Yes we have lost but most games have bin close. If we played smart disciplined football we would actually have a winning record. We do need better O-line an D-line an deff secondary help badly this team really isn’t that far off. Everyone needs to get over their emotions which clouds the minds. If we were being blown out the the dolphins or redskins then blow the whole thing up but we arnt ppl most games have bin close. We are almost there

  34. SOEbuc Says:

This Leftwich calling plays is a F-ing joke and a half. Bowels is a good DC with very young defense but I’m not making excuses for him.

  35. jjbucfan Says:

So if we need CB so bad, why have we not signed Orlando Scandrick to a 1 year deal? Does Licht believe that these rookies and second years are better than he is? Is he about to get popped for PEDs and that is why he was released? Whatever the case- we need leadership in our defensive backfield and he can give that to us. Is he the guy we all wanted-hell no but he is better than what we have.

The fact Licht keeps ignoring the O-line is tormenting my soul. If you have to give up an unknown commodity (3rd or 4th rounder) for a proven NFL G or T on a team that has mailed it in, you do that all day and all night. JW3 whether you like him or not, needs to be protected better than he is. Our RBs need and deserve better blocking. They are still getting hit or altered behind the LOS.

If we are going to have Dare in the game, can we at least throw him a screen or a swing pass every now and then-he has proven he cannot block for SH*T!!

I fell like this is longest running of episode of Punk’d and we are the victims!! Go away Kutcher-go F with another franchise

  36. unbelievable Says:

Just as weak as Dirk Koetter, with twice the staff.

Just like last season, we got a glimpse of hope during the first few weeks, only to watch the team implode and look like the pathetic franchise we’ve always been afterwards.

    Some thing never change.

  37. Allbuccedup Says:

Just think after another 5-11 season and JL signs JW to a two year extension. We can all listen to BAs BS all thru the summer. I sure in April they will draft a cornerback or safety at no. 1 and who knows after that. Then after a 6-10 season he can say we are making progress. Then after the 2020 season the Glazers announce they are moving the team to London because of the lack of ticket sales. Rumor has it Mr. Bean will be the new GM.

  38. TOM Says:

Where is Schiano when you need him or Rich McKay?

  39. Dlavid Says:

Honestly , poor coaching during several games can be attributed to a few of our losses . Rookie coaching errors ….! WTF…. looking more like Arians does not have what it takes . He should have stayed at the lake house .

  40. View from 132 Says:

Why does he wear a flat hat? Someone get this man a properly inflated hat.

  41. Bucs96 Says:

This is exactly why Glazers wanted Arians to call plays & take over the offense. He can have the power to veto all he wants but that’s gonna be a handful of plays & not 40-50 plays called in a game.

So we can talk about Arians all we want but remember he’s not calling the plays 90-95% of the time.
