Arians Claims WRs Quit On Jameis

October 27th, 2019

Calls out wide receivers.

During the game, per the Buccaneers Radio Network postgame show, Bucs play-by-play man Gene Deckerhoff claimed on a play that Breshad Perriman didn’t finish a route.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said that happened too often today and claims Bucs wide receivers quit on Jameis which resulted in five interceptions.

Arians, clearly frustrated and emotional, went off in his postgame press conference and specifically and directly pointed the finger for the loss at his wide receivers.

“Everybody is going to want to say Jameis threw interceptions,” Arians began. “Jameis didn’t make throw one damn interception that was his fault. His receivers let him down today.

“Guys stopped on routes that were supposed to be going down the middle. The last play we were going down the middle, it was supposed to be a big play. [Jameis] played his tail off!

“You can write want you want — but not one of those interceptions was his fault. And it is a damn shame.”

Joe got the impression listening to Mike Evans and listening to Lavonte David after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network that the roof is about ready to blow in that Bucs locker room.

After hearing Arians passionately call out his wide receivers as a group, Joe is just going to say the trade deadline approaching Tuesday afternoon may get very interesting.

    Oh OK!

Sounds reasonable lets resign the Golf Cart to a big contract.

  2. Rayjay1122 Says:

I am sick of this idiot shielding Winston…….and Leftwich for that matter.

  3. ClodHopper Says:

No roof has needed blown off more on the history of the NFL as this one. I welcome it with open arms

  4. Kgh4life Says:

Perriman will be cut this week.

  5. Pete I Says:

So sayeth Bruce ” Lack of preparation H ” Arians America’s Coach.

I want to hear from the Golf Cart. It couldn’t possibly be any less interesting.

  6. Rick Says:

Suddenly arians character is in question.

  7. knucknbuc Says:

yep Bruce is right nothing is Jameis’s fault. he played great. the 4 turnovers were everyone elses fault. so which receiver was it mike Evans 200 yards? or maybe it was his love child chris Godwin’s fault. weird whenever i hear about jameis and his how many turnover what are we up to now 70? everyone of them were everyone elses fault.

  8. ModHairKen Says:

Perriman was a cost-free opportunity to replace Humphries. Didn’t work out. Let him go. Send a message.

  9. NPRSageBoy Says:

This is a five alarm dumpster fire that is raging out of control.

    Glazers need to demand answers.

    Otherwise, just let it burn.

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Next up? Them Seahawks in Seattle. They already lookin at us chopin at the bit. There is no rest or pity in this league. Man, will our Bucs lose yet another? Grab some wood. Grab a big piece. We might..have lots more losses coming our way. Its not all bad. Heyyy we get a high draft choice yet again..next yr.

  11. Easy Says:

Sell the franchise and move it outta Tampa Bay

  12. Bird Says:

Yup. I have lost all respect for arians

    He sounds like You joe
He is so afraid to hurt his young little fawns feelings.

Even Ndog gave one pick to Jameis
    That says plenty

  13. Nano107 Says:

    Fire Byron L
    Cut Perriman
    Cut Hargreaves
    Cut Barber
    Cut Owhatever
    Start Jones

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    Cmon man….

Is JW that mentally weak that he can’t handle the truth….lol…

    GO BUCS

  15. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Knucknbuc I know it might sound crazy to most but go look at the film since he has been here. Jameis throws to a spot and most of the time the receivers just quit on the route. It’s sad but this team just has not played a complete team game. Never give up!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    Nano

    Why cut VHG?…

Carlton Davis gave up a TD and had 2 PIs….

    GO BUCS

  17. ElioT Says:

BA is showing his arse here.

It’s not all Jameis’ fault, it takes a village folks.

But a real franchise QB needs to step up and lead the team. A real QB whisperer should be able to elevate the play of his QB.

I just wish to high heaven he can figure something out.

  18. Winston Done in TAMPA Says:

Wow can’t believe Arians putting his wide outs as the fault !! It was clearly Winston, Perriman can run a route for crap, but yet you guys seem to keep playing him . I don’t know where this team is going ! Very frustrating as a long time fan ! The trade deadline better be very busy for these Bucs !!

  19. spicoli Says:

Sounds like BA just doing his job and trying to protect the most important position on an NFL team.

  20. Bird Says:

    Here s a thought.

Jameis was already mad for perriman not completing the 2 point conversion
And looked like he was mad when he ran out of bounds

How bout not throwing him the ball then?

    Mike Evans was catching everything
    Or Godwin ?

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

I thought the Bucs were the better team today. A snafu here and there turned into another loss. Depressing is an understatement.

  22. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

Time to start dropping dead weight, clearing cap space, and collecting draft picks. I’ve been a Bucs fan this long; I can wait a little longer.

  23. BA Redzone Says:

Jameis should just take his chances and throw every time to ME and CG.

Perriman forgot where the endzone lines were on the 2 pt play. Would have changed the end of game to needing a field goal instead of TD.

Oforgetmeforever cannot catch or block. Justin should have caught his ball for a TD. Barber? 50/50 and forget him on any screen play. Rojo is just not used for some reason.

  24. Old Sombrero Says:

Humphries didn’t quit on his QB.
If Gabbert wasn’t hurt would we have already seen him under center?

  25. T REX Says:

    Fire Arians. He’s going senile.

  26. Buc believer Says:

Easy your a butt wipe! Clearly just another name that one of the Joe Buc Fan trolls use

  27. D-Rome Says:

If none of this is Jameis’ fault then the Bucs should give him the contract extension tomorrow, right?

    RIGHT?

  28. ElioT Says:

I’m pretty damn sure BA is guaranteed next year.

At least his f****** salary is!!!

Dumb-a** comment, lost a lot of respect for this guy.

  29. BA Redzone Says:

    Meant Tanner Hudson, not Justin.

  30. DBS Says:

Right. They all forgot everything they knew about playing receiver this year. One of the best in the NFL. And the just quit. BA=BS.

  31. TOM Says:

Name names BA. The excuses for Winston continues. Licht needs to sign him to an extension now, since he’s so great and nothing is his fault. Waa, waa, waa. What do you expect BA to say. After all he’s the great QB whisperer. Total crap. What a Fk up organization.

  32. Frank Pillow Says:

Bruce spent most of the day daydreaming about his pontoon boat b/c his time management, game management and overall disposition on the sidelines stunk.

  33. PragueBucsFan Says:

    Welcome to Tampa!

  34. Jerry Says:

It’s funny how the coaches are so quick to blame everyone else on the team. But Jameis is NEVER to blame.

If I was on this team, I’d be getting sick of my coaches constantly blaming everyone on the roster and then defending the QB that keeps throwing picks and can’t hit the broadside of a barn.

  35. Fire the fans Says:

You guys think he’s just making this stuff up? He called Jameis out on his mistake (the timing of the dare Perriman play). And of course they’re not going to give him the extension tomorrow. Why would they? The whole plan was to just let this year play out. Carson had 15 ints through his first 7 games with BA. Quit being such a bunch of babies and let them work the kinks out. They’re still figuring out who on this team is worth a damn. They cut bobo and we actually got some punt return production today. This whole “blow it up” “fire the coach” “fire the gm” nonsense is just stupid. All the turnover we have had in philosophy is why we are in the predicament in the first place. Successful teams are usually teams that have had stability and developed a system

  36. CHOOSE ANOTHER HANDLE Says:

Another bad hire by the Glazers and Licht. BA is a complete ass clown. Don’t worry though, he won’t be here past next year anyway. Tony Dungy I think would be a great GM but he’s smart enough not to take a job here.

  37. Jean Lafitte Says:

I think once he watches the tape his perspective will change some. He’s being protective now.

  38. Fire the fans Says:

I really don’t think so. Listen to what he said about Godwin sitting down instead of continuing his route. I don’t think he’s gonna watch the tape and have that magically not have been what happened

  39. University of Seffner Says:

@ Fire the fans, if you have seen what we as diehard fans have had to witness in this team’s history, you’d understand why we are very pessimistic.

  40. Miketb19 Says:

Fire the Fans you called it perfectly

I don’t what you all thought was going to happen what BA was going to come in and we’re going to just go nuts in his first year

BA is a damn good coach but putting in a new offensive system and defensive system takes time

Jameis Winston has had plenty of his faults but Ray Charles could see on those 2 picks that the receivers slowed down at the end of there routes

And the offensive line is total trash we’re going to blow something up let’s start with that cause it don’t matter whose playing qb if they blink and there’s already a dude in his lap when he’s trying to throw the ball

And all you weak a** fans grow up Rome wasn’t built in a day

  41. Jeagan1999 Says:

It wasn’t just 1 or 2 receivers who quit on routes today. It’s a QB that has quit progressing. It’s a team that has quit on Winston and each other. It’s fans who have quit on this hot mess of a team. And it’s a management team that quit putting a quality product on the field for the last several seasons!

Time to quit with the excuses, start over and rebuild.

  42. Fire the fans Says:

Oh I’m a diehard fan. I live in mass and always have. Going on 30 years as a Bucs fan now lol even though it’s almost impossible to stay sane with all my friends being pats fans

  43. Defense Rules Says:

ModHairKen … “Perriman was a cost-free opportunity to replace Humphries.”

Uhhh, nope. Perriman cost us $4.0 mil this year. Even if we cut him right now, we’re still on the hook for the $4.0 mil. Like Oliver Hardy used to say to Stan Laurel … “This is another fine me you’ve gotten us into”. Jason Lichtsout .. The gift that keeps on giving.

  44. Fire the fans Says:

And I’m not trying to pretend that Jameis is a great qb. What I am saying is that he could be and a great qb coach seems to agree. And I also don’t think he is so delusional that he thinks he’s gonna get some huge contract

  45. Ndog Says:

    Bird Says:

Yup. I have lost all respect for arians

    He sounds like You joe
He is so afraid to hurt his young little fawns feelings.

Even Ndog gave one pick to Jameis
    That says plenty

Yeah I was wrong that pick wasn’t on Jameis, as I was not aware that Godwin broke off his route, so yes he played a clean game. Man it must suck to know nothing about football. You guys just can’t handle the truth can you. These guys on this team just sit back and let Jameis take the heat week knowing all well that they are the one that let him down. Just a bunch a week a$$ peeps on this team, just like there is on this website

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Hold on. Let’s consider for a moment that he’s being honest.

Then the only reliable WRs are Evans and Godwin. He should cut all of the others that played today. Sign undrafted WRs to replace them…see if we strike gold. Or get some from CFL.

  47. down in the dirt doug Says:

OK BA–how hard is to count to two and get rid of the ball?Jameis often holds the ball five or six seconds while Brady usually passes in a second and a half. And coach you have to take some blame for the bland, generic, offense we run.

  48. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So far as the picks, if Jameis threw to wear they were supposed to be then it explains some things.

  49. Fire the fans Says:

Oh yes let’s compare him to the best player to ever play lol the guy who won his first 3 rings with the best defense in the league, a good running game, and the best coach ever

  50. Allbuccedup Says:

Maybe the players are quitting on you. The Glazers need to fire JL and BA and hire a new general manager, a young defensive minded head coach and keep Leftwich and any offensive coaches that will stay.

  51. Fire the fans Says:

What you guys don’t seem to get is that these abs who come in and have success early are guys who came into mostly stacked teams that just needed a decent qb. When Jameis was drafted we needed literally every position outside of lvd Mccoy and evans

  52. Bird Says:

    Ndog

    Hahahahaha
    Hang in there little guy.
10 turnovers now in the last 2 games are not his fault.
Just bad luck. 92 turnovers in around 4 years (with benching and suspension )
Yah. You are right. And Coach is not trying to get into his head so he has to be gentle with him. Just like you want to be gentle with his nuts.
Glad you checked the footage ace

  53. Troy Says:

What would you say if you were hired to fix a problem, didn’t fix it, and probably exacerbated it? Answer: I give you this nonsense being spewed by BA.

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Buccfan37 … “I thought the Bucs were the better team today. A snafu here and there turned into another loss. Depressing is an understatement.”

Best comment of the day Bucccfan. The Bucs’ defense held the Titans to 72 yards rushing (on 21 runs) and 193 yards passing (21-for-33 … 64%). All but 1 TD came on extremely short field as a result of Bucs’ TOs. Most of the completions were in front of the CBs (very short) & in situations where Tannehill had a clean pocket to throw from. Derrick Henry was held to 75 yds rushing on 16 carries, but one of those was a 34-yarder (boo). Take out that & he was 15 runs for 41 yds (2.7 YPC … quite pedestrian).

The turnovers by the Bucs’ offense screwed us once again. Tired of all the bickering about ‘It’s the receivers’ fault’ or ‘It’s Jameis’ fault’ or It’s the OLine’s fault’. It’s ALL of their faults, but even more-so the fault of COACHING IMO. THEY put this hot mess together. THEY do the game-planning & the play-calling. THEY need to be the ones to hold the offensive players AND THEMSELVES ACCOUNTABLE. The only reason this Bucs’ team isn’t AT LEAST 4-3 right now is because of piss-poor coaching on the offensive side of the ball. The Bucs’ defense hasn’t been all that sterling, but the Giants’ & Titans’ game losses are clearly on offense .. .and especially on coaching.

  55. Pelbuc61 Says:

Sadly realized the the BA business model is to ride with JW, Licht and Leftwich and the fans be damned. Thank the Glazers for screwing us fans for at least another 5 years.

  56. lambchop Says:

This is just weird. I’ve never seen so many miscues b/w QB and WR. Is this a sabotage job or is there a lot of room for ad libbing on routes mid-route? Seems to be the latter. Perriman just sucks. Chris and Jameis looked like they saw different things the defense was giving them?

The Bucs being the 2nd youngest team in the league are going to have problems like this. So, I don’t know why Joe has a post about JPP being trade bait. We need veterans who can lead. JPP is exactly that.

I don’t know what they’re practicing but this is some preseason issues they’re having halfway into the season. That’s on coaching 100%.

  57. Hodad Says:

Brate hurt himself trying to contort to catch one of Jameis’s passes. That’s how bad he throws the ball. It’s not just he misses guys, it’s where TF is he throwing that ball?

  58. Fire the fans Says:

    Agreed lambchop

  59. Defense Rules Says:

Ndog … Jameis was clearly discombobulated on any number of plays today. His head was all over the place & he was dancing around like a circus bear. On too many plays he’s not seeing the field & not able to run through his progressions it looks like. Maybe he’s feeling the presence of those ‘ghosts’ that the Jets QB called out last week.

I can’t even imagine what our Bucs’ defense must think every time the offense turns the ball over like they did today. You KNOW that has to be disheartening to say the least. Their frustration level must be off the charts after a game like today’s.

  60. D-Rome Says:

Agreed Bonzai. Every WR not named Godwin or Evans should be cut.

  61. Destinjohnny Says:

    Dirk was as good

  62. gotbbucs Says:

Arians is four years behind the rest of us in this evaluation….and history says that he’ll still be the coach here for at least two or three more years if his heart last that long…..so get used to hearing him throw players u der the bus. He did it in every post game interview in Arizona.

  63. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Defense Rules-

Jameis is a gifted athlete- that’s why he makes great plays-
But he is a poor leader because he loses most of the time-

You can say it’s the play calling, or the secondary or the OLine and it is not ALL on Jameis- there is always someone else who stinks it up- today was Perriman.

But Jameis is the one constant in all the losses- his inconsistent play, bad decisions, poor execution, sacks and turnovers translates to loser on the field-

Looking for other areas of team that need improvement- yeah that’s valid, but that’s not why Bucs lose consistently-

QB is highest paid and most important position on the field and Bucs’ QB sucks-
and that is the National Opinion of Jameis, not just mine and most of JBF posters.

  64. From76 Says:

They quit on him. He failed them. Now Arians needs to see what Griffin can do to see if we need a better backup next year. It’s over.

  65. JameisAlmighty! Says:

Perriman is as gone as a 💩 I dropped last week. He sucks and should be ashamed of himself. The FBI needs to investigate his play. Looks like match fixing.

  66. James Says:

BA knows what he is doing I think he underestimated how bad Licht is as a talent evaluator

  67. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Very strange loss today. Hell of a football game with both teams playing physical on defense. I was about to get on here and stand up for Jameis only to see Arians had already done so. He’s absolutely right, and for the first time this season I saw Winston getting on his receivers on the sidelines. I saw a lot of fire on the sidelines today and from what Joe has written there’s plenty in the locker room, too. This is a good thing imo. My biggest issue with the Bucs losing the past five or so years has been that they never really seemed to care. I saw a lot of passion today and tons of effort on the field. I’m not thinking playoffs any longer, but I expect this team will show it’s toughness throughout the rest of the season and possibly build some chemistry and momentum by years end.

  68. EA Says:

I mean why can’t he get this oversized coaching staff to straighten out the receivers, anything BA says is a reflection of his actions.

  69. EA Says:

On another note, let’s Blame it all on receivers, forget the fact the Winston can’t create chemistry with them ( D-Jax).

  70. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Exactly EA

All these coaches can’t get receivers to run correct routes in week 8, coming off a bye, with the season in the balance?

    Something is rotten in Denmark.

  71. Don Phillips Says:

When’s the last time Jason Licht went in front of the press? Must be nice to be the GM and just hide from the world. This is his team 5 years in the making! Oh wait yeah I’d hide too

  72. Wisconsinbucsfan Says:

At seasons end time to clean house goodbye to everyone not an owner an start over would be tough to be worse

  73. Patrickbucs Says:

Yeah, he broke off a 20 yard route lol

  74. diggler Says:

after reading this i can support this team anymore. Im out.

  75. July Joe Says:

Bruce ain’t lying and still LOVES Jameis who has been far better through his first 7 games with Arians than Carson Palmer (a 10 year veteran) was in his first 7 games with Bruce … and Arians loved Palmer as well.

JAMEIS WILL GET PAID AND BE THE STARTER IN TAMPA IN 2020 … AND 2021 … AND 2022!

  76. LoveMeSomeBucs Says:

Arians was so busy hiring every old unemployed coach in the league and supplementing them with women coaches so he could become beloved by all the world he forgot his job was to put a winning product on the field, not become the UN.

  77. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

And let’s set the record straight. NOTHING is Winston’s fault. NOT A DAMN THING!!! Including all his record-breaking turnovers. His miss-steps with Kinsmen. His crableg theft. His FHITP screaming. His fighting with his coach on the sideline. His starting a fight in a game while in street clothes. His “sit down girls”. His Uber-groping. All of you so-called “fans” are just haters!!! It’s NOT his fault!!! …………right bruce?

  78. SteelStudBuc Says:

No no no no Jameis it’s not your fault
    You’re Americas Quarterback
The pro bowl alternate remember 2016 remember?

  79. DalvinCookRules Says:

There were two near picks that couldve been on the receivers but the overthrow to Godwin was all Winston. His small hands were a concern during the draft and it is proving to be a real issue with all the fumbles. That is all on Winston.

  80. DalvinCookRules Says:

I would disagree with the poster that says he is not a leader just a gifted athlete. The exact opposite is true! Winston is definitely a leader (that was the biggest reason he was taken over Mariota).. He is just a poor, awkward athlete. Great arm and quick twitch fiber in his arms and feet, but his physical body is too poorly constructed to qualify as even a marginal athlete.

  81. Allbuccedup Says:

Grow a pair BA your the blame everyone reports to you.

  82. Craig Says:

With the shotgun throws of Jameis, they didn’t quit. They were trying to figure out where the ball was going. Best thing Jameis could throw would be high, arching passes for his receivers to run under. He can’t even do that.

  83. QUE589 Says:

Nothing is going to change because fans are still supporting a bad product, so HC & GM will continue to make excuses

  84. July Joe Says:

    You guys are such idiots.

Bruce just publicly called out his superstar wide receiver, the guy who is under contract next year, as that was what was called for.

You want people to believe he went easy on Jameis who isn’t under contract next year and who all of you pretend he wants to “move on from”, and that he instead publicly called out a younger star receiver who is guaranteed to be on the team next year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The fact is that Bruce is a 2x Super Bowl champ, 2x NFL Coach of the Year and he sees greatness in Jameis and believes in him, while none of you do … and that ticks you off.

But, it also just proves you all are IDIOTS and don’t know anything about football or how to evaluate quarterbacks.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

JAMEIS IS GOING TO GET PAID AND BE STARTING IN TAMPA IN 2020 … AND IN 2021 … AND IN 2022

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  85. SteveK Says:

    July Joe,

So much laughing in your post. Is that how you digest the denial that is our QB being good? He’s not. Too many turnovers.
