Who Is Daniel Jones?

September 18th, 2019

Feast mode for Todd Bowles

The New York Giants did quite a favor for Bucs fans who were not glued to preseason broadcasts of the blue team that plays in New Jersey.

When rookie QB Daniel Jones, the No. 6 overall pick, was named Giants starting quarterback yesterday, the official dethroning of Eli Manning, the team posted a video of every single Jones pass in preseason. You can watch it below.

Jones was a three-year starter for Duke University, where he played for renowned quarterback coach David Cutcliffe, who coached the legendary Manning brothers.

The internet draft freaks weren’t too high on Jones, but many NFL personnel types saw a big and athletic NFL-ready quarterback who wasn’t throwing to gifted college receivers. You can see plenty of glimpses of Jones’ talent in the preseason video.

Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles loves to blitz and Joe can’t imagine Bowles straying from that core approach with a rookie making his first start. Why not make him prove he can handle it? Still, blitzing can lead to getting burned, especially by a mobile QB like Jones.

Joe likes the Bucs’ chances.

    He is FOOOOOOOOD

I TOLD y’all Todd Bowles was the TRUTH

    No Manning
    No Brees
    No Big Ben
    —-
    Mahomes
    Watson
    Jackson
    Winston
    Wentz
    Prescott

It’s a NEW DAY in the NFL!!

Let’s continue this DRIVE to 11-5

JW the 100 Million Dollar Man

    Go Bucs

  2. Kevinator24 Says:

Arians and Bowles are a combined 9-0 against rookie QBs, so I expect them to
buck the recent trend of letting rookie QBs own us.

  3. July Joe Says:

What is HILARIOUS is that after Jameis Winston turned undrafted Adam Humphries into a stud and got him PAID … he’s now with dink n’ dunk Mariota and has 3 catches … for 4 yards … yes, FOUR yards … a whopping 1.3 yards per catch!
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

DANIEL JONES looked extremely accurate in pre-season but he doesn’t have a strong arm and Bowles D should have him confused … I expect the Bucs to generate at least 2 turnovers and for the team to cruise to an easy victory … the Giants only hope may be for Saquon to go Barry Sanders and just take the game over, which he could do …

  4. StonedBuc Says:

I can only hope we have more than 50% bucs fans at the stadium sunday.

  5. ITS ABOUT TIME !! Says:

QB Daniel Jones….. hmmmm watch the video ….. no free lunch he gets rid of the ball quick ….. not hanging on to it ….. like somebody i know

  6. Greg G Says:

Well I will be there from Jersey on a bachelor party rooting for the Bucs to give Daniel Jones a rude welcome to the league. Go Bucs!!

  7. DB55 Says:

If we blitz jones will hit us with the Mariota special. Fingers crossed.

  8. stpetebucsfan Says:

Jones has done the Bucs another favor. It continues a second week of national run for the Bucs because of the other teams QB.

First of course the storyline was Cam washed up or not?

Now it’s the changing of the guard from Eli Manning…an SB winning legend in NYC to a Dukie named Daniel Jones. The Big Apple always gets plenty of coverage and especially the Gmen.

If the Bucs play up to their true potential in a few more weeks we might get some national run for our achievements and not just our opponents.

  9. Dapostman Says:

    @Its about time,

What NFL game or games are you referring to? I can’t find any DJ NFL regular season game videos.

  10. Brandon Says:

Jones is not that mobile or athletic. He struggles when you press his receivers and get in his face. UVa made him look very average last season in college. Jones was often taken out in favor of a Wildcat QB. Neither were super impressive. He may turn out to be a good one, but he is not going to take over a game with his athleticism.

  11. DooshLaRue Says:

So he’s “NFL ready” you say huh?

    Those guys are always good.

Just give him 4……5……maybe 6 years!

    He’ll be fine.

  12. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

In one of those games i heard the commentator say jones had fumbled the ball twice. If he does that with our defense they gonna eat like kings that day, but kid has great ball placement. It might be a good game that we’ll need our offense to start shining again

  13. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Lol I was a tennis coach at duke for 8 years and one of the girls on my team was banging him their freshman year

  14. unbelievable Says:

He looks quite accurate, with a very quick release. Obviously it’s preseason, but his mechanics look on point.

Let’s not pop the champagne just yet fans.

  15. widerightandleft Says:

Every year the Bucs do whats coming. They get all high on themselves and go out and get shellacked by a team they should beat by 14 . I smell a big ol trap game .Hope they are ready to play!

  16. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Wide is right but I pause on that doubt bc I think ba and Bowles are a different breed that the phony’s we had before them

  17. Buc'n Enough Says:

    Wasn’t Jameis NFL ready?

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    DB55

    blitz early and often….

we have the CB’s to create small windows now!!….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  19. LordCornelius Says:

Never thought he was that athletic.

Will be interesting to see how he does in live games. Preseason is very misleading on both sides. I remember when Cam Newton / Andy Dalton looked horrifically bad in preseason then did very well in regular season, and QBs looking good preseason and sucking regular season.

Looking at the highlights he played very solid in terms of ball placement/accuracy although the receivers had pretty good separation most plays and most were short throws.

Did seem to basically be going to his 1st read every time and getting it out quick vs going through any progressions, so we will have to take away his early option and see how he does. There was only 1-2 total plays where he did not throw it to his 1st read or where his eyes went after the snap. Something to take advantage of.

    GO BUCS!

  20. Conte Piscatelli Says:

What’s lost here is who does he throw to? None of the active receivers scare me. So yes you can blitz and blitz often. I don’t care who plays QB. The Giants aren’t good on the oline either

  21. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“Kid ran a 4.6 40 yard dash so I consider that athletic and mobile

    quick release and accurate

doesn’t have the bazooka arm but can make all the throws

If he was the QB for the Carolina Thursday, He would have completed most of the 10 Cams misfires to open receivers

He is going to rollout and not be a stationary target like the immobile Manning

    Giants going to score

    Giants problem is their defense.

But can our Arizona OC/playcaller do anything? other than targeting Perriman and run to the gut?

Timing is everything and we as Bucsfan has the worst luck. 3 years with a competent offense with pathetic defense/DC and now we have the exact opposite. competent defense with a pathetic OC/playcaller

Why cant we have nice things”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  22. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

    “My Dad

just sent me a text to post

“The Gaints offencive Line goin to smash and throw the Bucs offencive Line like a Ragdol”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  23. AwShbucs Says:

    Dooshlarue

You must have completely forgotten Jameis being the first guy ever to throw for 4,000+ yards in his first 2 seasons.

Oh and him leading us to our only winning record since 2010.

  26. YoungBucs Says:

I think my poem will sum it up for Sunday >>> Daniel Jones reading zones and makes good throws, but here comes Suh to break them bones. Four more sacks from a Shaq attack, leaves Giants fans crying for Eli back. Barkley burns the sticks but Bowles is about to blitz – blitz – blitz and numbers without a WIN my friend still don’t mean jack SH!T. Bucs 34 – 17

  27. DooshLaRue Says:

Since he’s NFL ready does that mean we’re guaranteed to get a pick 6 on DJ’s first ever NFL pass?

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Let him get knocked on his can a few times. This isn’t College son. Everyone is fast and the Bucs’ defense is faster. Let’s do this!

  29. BigMacAttack Says:

Stop Saquon and you’ll beat the Giants

  30. July Joe Says:

I wonder if the Giant fans would be stupid enough to … watch Daniel Jones throw for 4,000 yards and make a Pro Bowl as a rookie, then come back in his 2nd year and throw for 4,000 yards and lead them to a 9-7 record, then come back in hius 3rd year and lead the entire NFL in 300 yard games while playing 5 less games than the runner-up and toughing it through an injured throwing shoulder, then come back in his 4th and lead the entire NFL in passer rating under pressure and finish top 5 in Raw QBR … and then call him a “bust” and want him run out of the NFL and replaced by a less talented college QB.

ONLY IN TAMPA ARE SO MANY FANS THIS STUPID …

But hey, what can you expect from the fans of a team that has ever only won ONE Super Bowl (and that with a game-manager QB) but has drafted and then dumped THREE quarterbacks who went on to start in and win a Super Bowl?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA … ONLY IN TAMPA!

  31. DooshLaRue Says:

    @July Joe,

The Bengals, Bills, Browns, Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Panthers, Texans, Titans and Vikings have not won a Super Bowl in their history. The Browns, Jaguars, Lions and Texans have never reached the Super Bowl.

So um yeah……we are truly pathetic.

  32. July Joe Says:

^ How many of those teams have drafted and then dumped THREE quarterbacks who went on to win a SuperBowl?

    NONE!

You missed the point of what I was saying … I was NOT saying the Bucs are a pathetic organization at all.

I was saying Bucs “fans” LIKE YOU wouldn’t know a good QB if he was wearing #3 and leading the NFL in 300 yard games as a 23 year old.

Fans like you are pathetic …

  33. Bobby M. Says:

I anticipate play action, roll outs and screens….His mobility could give us fits. Expectation is a sound win but it’s the NFL and still relatively early in the season, weird things can happen and we’ve been known to look ahead.
