Vernon Hargreaves Answers

September 9th, 2019

Came to play.

Coming into this year, two players needed solid if not good seasons or 2019 would be their last in Tampa Bay.

Oddly enough, both were first-round draft picks, one on offense and one on defense.

The first of course is America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. The second would be cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

The Bucs already picked up Hargreaves’ fifth-year option for 2020. However, that is only valid if he is not cut during the winter. After getting drafted in 2016, Hargreaves had an up-and-down three seasons with the Bucs, largely marred by injuries.

Unlike Jameis, it didn’t take long yesterday in the loss to the 49ers for Hargreaves to make a statement that he should return to his hometown team. In the second quarter, Hargreaves picked off a Jimmy GQ pass and housed it to give the Bucs a 7-3 lead.

“[I had my] eyes on the quarterback, making a quick read – a quick three-step read – and just making a play,” Hargreaves said of the touchdown.

It was Hargreaves’ first pick since December 2016 against New Orleans, his only other career interception.

Yesterday’s loss rubbed him the wrong way.

“The goal is to win, so it doesn’t matter how well I play personally,” Hargreaves said. “It’s about the team and we’ve got another game Thursday and we’re going to be ready to go.”

One thing Joe is certain of, if Hargreaves continues to play like he did yesterday, he won’t be moving.

And if Jameis continues to play like he did yesterday, he will be moving.

Grandpa the quarterback whisperer who wears a dumb hat 0-1. Lolololol

I don’t remember Jimmy GQ throwing at VHIII the rest of the game

You are right on here Joe

What abput Leftwich. I think he is an over rated play caller and was truly bummed when arians handed over the offensive to him. Was not impressed at all with playcalling yesterday. We shpuld have pounded the rock far more than what we did. Had surprising sucess with it.

VHIII had a good game. I’d like to see him string a few of them together while staying healthy.

Sorry it wasn’t the play calling. There were open holes in the run game and there were open receivers in the passing game. Pass protection for the most part was also decent minus the stupid azz penalties. There was only one person who didn’t show up for opening day.

    Winston’s wish list:
    Kicker? Check
    Just an average D? Check
    O Line protection? Check
    Running game? Check

Don’t turn the ball over and give the opposing team more points than ours? OPPS

  8. Armybucsfan Says:

Our defense played surprising well yesterday. What I found embarrassing is that Winston gave away more points to the opposing team than he made for our team. Rojo came to play and I was pleasantly surprised with his versatility and his drive. If Winston just would have decided to take the sack rather than throwing the ball directly to a defender and stop staring down his receivers we might of had a chance. What am I kidding, with Winston at the helm there is no chance we can win. Carolina is going to have a field day with us on Thursday with this type of game play.

VH III had a gimme pick 6 and now he’s the second coming.

The Bucs are 0-1 in games where Vernon Hargraves has a pick 6. Strike up the band!

I agree with Bucinjim and Armybucsfan. I’m afraid Thursday night could get ugly. If Jameis can’t keep it together between the ears in the friendly confines of Ray Jay, what’s gonna happen amidst all that noise in Charlotte ?

For the exception of lack of a pass rush, our defense looked a whole lot better….our running game looked a whole lot better…..no missed kicks and no kick returns…..
    1 blocked punt
    1 fumble
    3 interceptions (2 pick 6s)
costly untimely penalties in the red zone

Now….how did we lose? That’s how.

  12. Pittsshore Says:

Vernon and the rest of the D played great with the exception of a handful of plays. And even better: JW did not leave them hanging with interceptions that put the niners deep into our side of the field. The pick 6 variety will eliminate the JW minions from hanging the loss on the D. Can’t blame the kicker either. Can’t blame the red jerseys. Can only blame Apples McGoo

You’re right….jimmy didn’t go to VHG the rest of the game….he started going to CD33….VHG stepped up and played like the leader of the secondary….

    Bucnjim

I agree with you but there were 2….OJ ain’t show up either….

    GO BUCS

The blocked punt was on a single player. Ogunbawle got BLOWN UP! I can get past that.

The playcalling disturbed me early because of all the first down runs. But after a couple of series I saw the method to the madness. They gained a huge time of possession advantage and were beginning to wear down the Niners small, fast defense.

The ONLY thing none of us can get past is trying to figure out who was playing QB for us? If that’s the real JW yesterday we are truly headed for the top pick in the draft…unless we can find a better QB on our bench. The operative word here is better…not great just an improvement. I would take a solid game manager at this point.

There were a few bright spots in this joke of a game.
*The improved play of the defensive secondary. Whitehead will be a super star
along with several others like VHIII.
*The improved play of the linebacking corps. LVD was having fun out there.
*Tampa Bay: we have a kicker. Gay is for real. The rest of the ST needs work.
Where’s the fearless Jameis of his rookie year? Our running backs had a good game. ME13 needs to watch the OPFs. He’s got a target on his back, and the refs are clueless to start with! Ogunbowale made a rookie mistake on the punt but he did his best with the freaked out offense. The referees were dreadfully incompetent. Are they even schooled?

  16. Pryda...sec147 Says:

we have 15 more to go ! m1K3 was sick & Devin white I am sure there are others that have the Flu. Howard & Godwin both had a few drops with the ball hitting their hands. The QB takes the blame but isnt going anywhere. ATL lost Panthers lost lets see NolA tonight long season ahead of us cant wait for TNF!!!

    GO Bucs Feed ROJO!!

  17. Buczilla Says:

Finally! One of the few bright spots yesterday.

  18. BigHog Says:

On the game I watched yesterday of my BUCS ….pass protection and run blocking GRADE C-….OVERALL GRADE D!!!
