Puzzling Move

September 23rd, 2019

Not escaping scorn.

As Joe warned readers, the Bucs are getting mocked all across the land this morning. This is what happens when you choke away a win to Manhattan’s favorite team.

The blowback isn’t quite as harsh as Joe expected. For example, even after his defense collapsed in the second half, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is getting some love for how the Bucs shut down Giants running back Saquon Barkley.

Also getting props is how America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, led the Bucs on what should have been a game-winning drive. In Joe’s eyes, in the end, Jameis had the plugged pulled on him by coaches.

Of course, kicker Matt Gay is getting crucified. Deservedly so. His awful day cost the Bucs a much-needed win. And even though just about everyone in the Fourth Estate loves Bucco Bruce Arians, he is not escaping wrath from the stenographers in the northeast or on national platforms.

Take hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistMike Florio-arguingparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training social activist Peter King of NBC Sports. King is still perplexed why exactly Arians put the Bucs offense in reverse in an effort to win.

I think this is the most incredible thing about Bruce Arians taking the delay-of-game penalty before the final field-goal try by his kicker, Matt Gay, with four seconds left: Gay’s attempt, as it turned out, was from 34 yards out. It could have been a 29-yarder; Arians said he thought Gay would have an easier time making the kick from 34. So wait. In the first half, Gay missed two extra points. Those are 33-yard kicks. Why would you think it’d be better for him to kick from the 34 instead of about the 29? Makes no sense to me.

Well, part of the mindset of doing that is Arians suggested not only is Gay uncomfortable at point-blank range, but he’s less accurate.

And that folks is the hidden problem in Joe’s eyes. If a kicker doesn’t like field goals that are chip shots for high school kids, that is a *major* issue.

Yes, Joe was happy that Gay was kept. His booming leg is fun as hell to watch, and it is a weapon. But if your kicker might need meds or can’t hit a target a neighborhood kid playing junior varsity soccer on his local high school team can hit, that’s a huge red flag.

After what this franchise has thrown at fans in the post-Chucky era, anything negative is to be expected. It is what fans have been conditioned to expect. That’s because…

Make the 35 yard chip shot. Simple.

  4. doctor_berto Says:

How about take at least one shot at the end zone the last two red zone trips

  5. D-Rome Says:

In Joe’s eyes, in the end, Jameis had the plugged pulled on him by coaches.

Indeed he did. They have no trust in him or his ability to get a touchdown with plenty of time left. It’s a shame because he wasn’t given an opportunity with 13 seconds left. The Winston apologists are wrong on this one. Just about every other coach in the NFL takes a shot with 13 seconds left.

Does anyone else think Andy Reid pulls the plug on Mahomes with his targets? Absolutely not!

Jameis earned the right to try and win the game right there. He was very good yesterday.

  6. DB55 Says:

Why are people surprised by this? He missed a short fg last week vs Carolina. He missed against Cleveland and all through mini-camp.

But line him up for a 60 yarder and he’s butter.

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

Kyle Bridzas booming leg was fun too.

Pat Murray was somewhere laughing at all of this yesterday.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Delay of game cost us the game.

Been saying THAT since last night.

  9. tmaxcon Says:

BA’s BS is more entertaining than Bad Character Lovie’s game but at the end of the day both are just padding retirement accounts of friends and family. Glazers are the number one retirement option in the nfl… you get well paid with NO ACCOUNTABILITY, NO PRESSURE TO WIN and ZERO EXPECTATIONS…. The county has higher expectations for community service workers than glazers do of staff, front office, players and coaches. bucs are not even a circus anymore they are full blown abandoned K-Mart Parking lot Carnival with broken down rides and has beens running the show.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

this is a proven mentally weak organization and the locker room led by lvd is probably the mentally weakest ever assembled. they will lose confidence in this staff just like the previous 4. they will turn on the old dude and quit. cancer93 taught them how to lay down and tune out coaches really well.

  11. Tbbucs3 Says:

Here’s how incompetent Jason Licht is…

The Kicking was fine under Connor Barth….but we cut him

The Bucs Kicking was fine under Pat Murray….but we cut him TWICE

Heck the Bucs Kicking was fine under Cairo Santos

Every time Jason Licht has tried to replace a kicker that was playing solid, it turned into Roberto Aguayo, Nick Folk, Kyle Brindza and Chandler Cantazaro.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. Apparently the Glazers are not paying attention to the horrible job Jason Licht is doing.

    Don’t fix what’s not broken.

  12. LordCornelius Says:

That was a textbook game winning FG drive. That’s an automatic win 99.9% of the time basically. Chip shot FG to win the game and you control the clock so that you kick it to win it.

I don’t care about not taking a shot to the end zone with that little of time and that good of field position. If anything I just wanted them to run a play to get it as close as possible (i.e. run it to the left and make it like a 25 yarder). Instead of delay of game + 2 yard loss.

The NFL extra point average was 94% last year.
The NFL Extra points when they were shorter were at 99%.

This shouldn’t even be a conversation. We should be 2-1 and have not taken delay of games and sh1t to game a chip shot FG. I have no issues at all with not taking shots into the end zone because we had the damn game won.

Curse indeed. This franchise is a curse.

  13. TampaTown Says:

The COACHING STAFF cost us this game and almost the Carolina game. They’re the ones getting too much credit. And stop trying to muzzle Jameis. For God’s sake let this kid just play!

  14. Etzel Says:

Bruce’s style may have been risky in the past, but now it’s just CONSERVATIVE LAME OLD-MAN LOSER SH*T

  15. DB55 Says:

Mahomes? Did Mahomes get hit 20 times and sacked 4 times? Nope 1 sack probably 1 or 2 hits.

Watch the highlights, Mahomes, Prescott, Rodgers, Brady, they all have clean pockets without 1 defender within 5 yards.

Winston is getting clothes lined when he throws dimes to Evans in the end zone.

Some of you can’t handle the simplest inconveniences but expect jameis to not turn the ball over when he’s getting hit with 2 seconds of getting the snap. And gets hit over and over and over again, game after game after game.

He had a clean pocket on the last pass to Evans and completed a long pass downfield yet youz still not happy bc it wasn’t a TD.

I hate most of you people.

  16. John F Ensch Says:

Different day, same old Bucs. “LOSERS”!

  17. D-Rome Says:

Go visit Big Blue View or GMEN HQ and comment there, DB55. Why waste your time here? You’re clearly a Giants fan.

  18. FanO’Bucs Says:

When Evans caught the last catch there was 22 secs left and we had a timeout.

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

Mentioned it yesterday, Gay suffers from depression and is a head case(not saying people with depression can’t cope). But he is mentally fragile, after 2 games he overthought his importance and trotted out in highlighter shoes. Wonder if the shoes end up in the HOF?

  20. Pete I Says:

“Those are 33-yard kicks. Why would you think it’d be better for him to kick from the 34 instead of about the 29? Makes no sense to me.”

It makes no sense to anyone. Gay was 85 for 85 on Extra point attemps in college, and 17 for 17 from 20-29 yards on FG’s, seems like center of the field closer would have been a better choice.

Of course he was 21 of 20 on FG’s from 30-39 so there is that…

  21. Cgmaster27 Says:

This loss is on the staff. There is no doubt they muzzeled jameis after the pick. If im jameis ,im walking up to caoch and saying ” if you dont trust me, trade me.” There is no reason to play the game like cowards, which is what leftwich did. Jameis dropping dimes all game and one bad pass, gets him nuetered? And can we just dump dotson already, the guy is by far our weakest link on the line. To see how excited jameis and mike were when they got in fg range, only to lose ,is just heartbreaking as a fan.

  22. DB55 Says:

    D Rome

Then you’re clearly a chiefs fan. Mahomes this Mahomes that. Put Mahomes on this garbage team 2 wins at best

“It makes no sense to anyone. Gay was 85 for 85 on Extra point attemps in college, and 17 for 17 from 20-29 yards on FG’s, seems like center of the field closer would have been a better choice.”

My god man I didn’t even know that.

Should have spiked the ball. Then instead of taking a delay of game you run the ball to get as close as possible. Hell maybe we break it for a TD. Then you are looking at a FG under 25 yards which is like 99% automatic.

What a ridiculous way to lose a game. They have to win the game against the Rams now to even give the fan base hope or we are all about to mail it in again.

  27. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

99% of head coaches do the same thing. Chip shot field goal Heavily outweighs the possibility of turnover/penalty trying to be greedy and not just take the win. Kicker’s gotta make the kick, plain and simple.

  28. TampaTown Says:

    DB55:

Thank you for defending Jameis because today he really deserves it.

  29. T REX Says:

Dbag 55…stop whining like a little girl. Every thread you’re throwing another tantrum. Take your meds. Get help…whatever but please shut your Winston pleaser.

    Thanks,

    EVERYONE

  30. Etzel Says:

I don’t think the shoes mean anything… but really, a history of depression is a major red flag for a kicker, in my uneducated opinion. It’s not about the draft pick, a 5th rounder is nothing. It’s about the selection of him over Santos. Gay was missing these range kicks all through camp/preseason. But everyone had a hard-on for the noise his kicks made so we ignored it.

  31. DB55 Says:

    T. rex

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I can buy spiking the ball and running it, then calling a time out…. I don’t buy trying for a TD when there isn’t enough time for them to score after we do….they were out of time outs.
The absolute right call was the FG………but…..it was missed…..so it looks like the wrong call…..

  35. Pittsshore Says:

“Bruce the Deuce”. As in his game management is Sh-tty.

  36. LordCornelius Says:

“I don’t buy trying for a TD when there isn’t enough time for them to score”

Me either. You are playing scared of your kicker making an automatic kick by doing this. It’s not about being aggressive. It’s about being smart. The smart play is to kcik the easy chip shot FG without taking a delay of game knowing that all kickers should be automatic from under 30 yards out.

If you have a kicker that is scared / can’t make FG chip shots from 25-30 yards out you cut his 4ss. You definitely don’t draft him. Then again the was 85-85 hitting college chip shot field goals… so BA is full of sh1t if he’s saying he had better odds by backing him up.

    Go Bucs wee

  37. 74 Bucs fan Says:

Back the kicker up 5 yards so it will be easier to make. I either need a gallon of coffee or need to go back to sleep because that make zero sense to me.

  38. Ndog Says:

Oh DB55 you took the bait again sir. Don’t let the trolls get to you man these people just spew garbage to piss the people that actually understand football off. They know nothing and at this point they don’t even try to hide it. Evidence just look at the junk D-Rome is spewing.

  39. Old Sombrero Says:

This is absurd. There’s less chance of error in a shorter kick for many reasons. Trajectory is much steeper for one. And if you push it or hook it, the shorter the distance means a better chance your error won’t put the ballot outside the uprights.

  40. widerightandleft Says:

    Etzel;
They had no choice but to keep gay. That would have meant Lichts job, missing with good draft picks on kickers two years in a row.Well at least the proof is now in the pudding!

  41. Locked In Says:

Can someone tell me why the Packers can wear throw-back unis with a solid yellow helmet, but the bucs can’t wear their cream-sickle unis with bucco bruce helmets? We are playing like the 1980’s version, might as well dress out like them too.

  42. widerightandleft Says:

If you watch his last missed field goal it looks like his timing was off !

  43. DB55 Says:

    Ndog

    Can’t stop won’t stop. Lol

  44. Scot person Says:

For those claim that JW is always under pressure on his 1 pick and the2nd almost pick it was no greater pressure than other qbs see every game.
Winston can’t get the blame for this loss but
Let’s face it, it was a home game cs a horrible pass defense
So just watch how he plays at the rams on the
Road. He and the Bucs face a real test vs rams.
Even Deion said last night that Daniel Jones
Did not have a test but just a quiz vs the Bucs.

  45. Ndog Says:

In addition anyone who reads these comments knows I have been saying for years that the reason we don’t win is cause a bottom 5 defense, bottom 5, running game and a bottom 5 kicking. And lookie lookie our defense sucked our kicker sucked and our RB was pretty good. But all we keep hearing is QB, QB, QB from the clueless club well yet again it rang true and what do we get. “Oh they don’t trust the QB that’s why we lost.” Boy they are reaching now, man their pathetic.

  46. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

But but but……we have America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston!!!!

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog…Pittshore blamed the missed kick on Winston last night….saying that he didn’t line it up to the left has like he was supposed to. (even though that’s where he lined it up) But blaming Winston for the spot of the ball…lol wtf-ever?

That’s the extent that these people are infected with Winston Derangement Syndrome.

  49. Buc1987 Says:

  50. chargedcbh Says:

if you don’t trust your current QB, it’s obvious he is not going to be your Franchise QB. Of course it’s not his fault we didn’t win, but any good QB wouldn’ve hit Evans for a TD on that last bomb. YES! I heard the idiot Michael Clayton’s response, just throw it up and make it a 50/50 pass. That explains Clayton’s career. Too many missed passes, I don’t know if it’s Winston finger or the fact he needs glasses but something is wrong. The game should’ve been over! we had to finish them off in the second half. DO WE ONLY RUN THE BALL OUT OF ONE FORMATION? You know the one, Godwin comes in motion, stands behind the tackle and run it.

  51. Troy Clayton Says:

Yesterday was the end for me. Told my wife as we were watching the game that I’m done with the Bucs if they lost. Thankfully, I’m done with watching this nonsense. This weekend, I endured Lovie Smith in Champaign on Saturday night, followed by this crap. This team isn’t even professional anymore. It’s like I’m in a nightmare that no one would let me leave. The fact that we can’t make basic plays. Rookies, who will look like rookies against every other team in the league, look like Joe Nameth. I mean….what did this team do for 10 days to prep for a guy who won’t be a QB in this league in 3 years? I’m serious. It all starts at the top. The fact that the Glazers gave Licht a contract extension defies explanation. Let’s be honest, the Glazers don’t want to win because they don’t know how to win. Their father knew how to win. Nothing they’ve touched has won. If you want a winner, bring in someone at that top who has won. I have completely had it.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

Jameis Winston put the team in position to WIN the game….

    Gay lost it for everyone.

  53. bucs4ya Says:

Horrible way to lose a game. Joe please tell us there was some yelling, cursing and things being thrown in the locker room. The fans can’t be more hurt and pissed off then the players and the coaching staff but something tells me that we care more then they do. Which is ashame.

  54. Christopher Schiefen Says:

He iced his own kicker. He basically said we need to baby you (for two straight downs) to even have a chance, after he was already overthinking on a tough day.

  55. Rob Says:

Not an ATM fan but Jameis balled out yesterday. Best deep throws I’ve seen from him in five years and he put us in position to win the game with his throw to Evans. Coaches neutered him at the goal line and relied on a sorry rookie kicker who can’t kick a GD extra point accurately. This was one of Jameis’s best games as a pro until the genius play calling went into a shell in the second half playing conservative as hell. Arians cost us this game by letting the play calling go stale and ultra conservative. When you have a team down, throat punch them and run it up. Ridiculous not to stay aggressive when you are supposed to be no risket no bisket. What a joke of a HC at the end. Let’s back up our rookie kicker who has already missed two kicks from point blank range. Go for the TD on the 9 with 13 seconds and if no one is open throw it away! Insane play calling cost us the game. I would fire a kicker who cannot kick extra points or always go for the two point conversion and save him for long kicks? Absurd. Go Bucs!

  56. DBS Says:

Touch Downs. Not Field Goals. The defense may have been bad but the red zone. Cost as usual no mater how you try to spin it. 8 trips is 48 points. They scored 18. The rest was Gay.

  57. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Off subject……but Joe needs to ask the question.

The home team in an NFL game chooses to wear either white or colored jerseys, and the visiting team has to wear the opposite.

So….for both our home games in September……we chose the red (dark) uniforms and let our opponent wear white.

IN THE HEAT!!!……>>WHY, WHY, WHY……WHO MADE THAT DECISION?

  58. DB55 Says:

    Scot person

How many QBs were sacked 4 times yesterday? Not to mention the hits and pressure he took.

Aaron Rodgers said and I quote “my jersey has never been this clean”. He took 1 hit yesterday and jameis still outplayed him. So yea try again sir.

  59. Pittsshore Says:

Buc87: please remind me what JWs record is as a starter. You are what your record says you are. He had a good stat line against what is probably the worst D in the league. But what happened when the pressure was on???…he choked because ignorant people cannot handle the heat.

  60. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I think the quick 7 points by the Giants opening the 2nd half shook the 29 coaches and they didn’t adjust how they would approach the game with their first possession, at half time they tactically were going to go the a ball control game and probably had scripted the first possession, thing was they no longer had the 18 point lead…Bucs had 3 -3 and outs opening the 2nd half if I recall correctly…big momentum shift and BA got caught flat footed…Barkley is out weeks with a high ankle sprain…

  61. DB55 Says:

    Pitt

You’re a dumb backwards arse dude aren’t you?

The Bucs lose games no matter what jameis does. They lost games since 76. Worst winning percentage in all of sports.

And I like how you use ignorant as code for the word you too scared to use. You probably have a black friend too am I right?

  62. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

DB55 Jones is ALREADY a better QB than Jameis…

  63. Dewey Selmon Says:

Locked. The Packers simply took the G and middle stripe off of their helmet. But it is the same helmet they wear every week. The Bucs would have to wear new white helmets to put Bucco Bruce on it. NFL says everyone has to wear the same helmet all year.

  64. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Isnt anybody capable of kicking from 35 yrds on the team cuz I still want to see Gay nail a 70 fg

Ndog…what kind of defense did the Giants have yesterday ….has Jameis EVER had the VIBE Jones projected yesterday….?

First of all yes their defense sucked, BUT did they also miss extra points and FGs? I said the Bucs defense AND kicker sucked sir, reading is fundamental. In regards to that vibe yes several times, at Philly with 5 TD passes, at home vs Atlanta where he threw for like 395 and 4 TDs (BTW we still lost that game) and the Redskins game where we blew the huge lead just to name a few. So give it up brother Jameis IS NOT THE PROBLEM, he needs a team like everyone else to win period end of story.

  67. Pete I Says:

    @Pittshore and DB55

    He is 22-35

  68. CPN Says:

Bruce Arians took a delay of game penalty to give Matt Gay a better chance at kicking the FG.

  69. BucHead588 Says:

Because it’s the Packers Same Helmet with there Decal removed they only use 1 Helmet all year just remove decal

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Gay did lose the game for us and if it didn’t happen yesterday it would eventually lose us a game at some point.

The other problem fans have is Byron Leftwitchs playcalling in half 2. The Bucs overcame it and still gave us a game winning drive but if this don’t get better it too will cost us a game.

At least with Byron he can/better learn from it and get better. The kicker position still bothers me and will continue to. This kid might not be good enough. You can’t just learn from that and get better.

A small little sect of fans is mad at Bowles defense but I’ll just call that overdramatic. This won’t be like Smitty defense that is still blowing assignments three years in. They will grow into this defense and get it down. The secondary is also young and is expected to play better and better in coverage. The last ingredient to the defense is a healthy Devin White limiting the damage over the middle. If he is on the field playing at his expected level that last TD gets stopped.

  73. Why did we cut Matt Gay again? Says:

MATT GAY IS THE NEW ROBERTO AGUAYO.

    DONT @ ME !!!!!!!

    TERMINATE JASON LICHT TODAY.

  74. JimmyJack Says:

So I’m still very bitter about that loss but the Bucs still got a good team that can win football games.

Our QB looks decent right now after a great game. Starting to feel like he can give us the consistent play we need. Still has more yo proove.

Byron needs to learn and grow…..Same with our total defense.

Kicking is our black eye right now. This needs to get fixed and it’s not as hard as they have made it seem to be. It’s unacceptable got this position to cost us multiple games like it has in last 8 years.

Point is there’s no reason to lose optimism. This aren’t the same ol Bucs team that cannot compete like we have saw before. This will be proven next week when we play the Rams. Not giving up on this team because of one idiot kicker.

  75. Anonymous Says:

Kicking was 100% the right call for 31/32 NFL Teams. I’d fire Jason Licht. Where are these high pick CBs he drafted? Matt Gay is a bust and should have been fired last night. You have to be able to rely on your kicker at close range. Beside the blown FG, the two Missed extra points were the difference. Bruce Arians and more so Jason Licht deserve every ounce of criticism and shade they’re getting today. Jameis had a really good game and the defense reverted his interception with a fumble recovery. I still hate the decision to put Barber in when Rojo was gashing them down the field. Third and two and they thought Barber could get the first. Terrible call. Brate sucks and wouldn’t fight for a first down to ice the game. Team went from hopeful and good to train wreck garbage in about 2 hours. I was do on board with them too. What a fool I was for believing in this joke of a football team. It’s sad. It really is, because so many did their jobs yesterday and a handful flushed it down the crapper. Please end the Licht experiment and if BA doesn’t like it, tell him to quit. There are 31 better GMs in the NFL right now and probably many more ready to take Licht’s job. Junk just junk

  76. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think you have to give Gay more chances to succeed or fail……this is the nature of every rookie no matter what the position…..
I’m one who thinks he will make some kicks and miss some also (brilliant, right?)

Is there any JBF poster who thinks the Bucs should have been in that position after our 18 point lead at home with Barkley out against a rookie QB?

    Right, I don’t think so.

  77. Bradinator Says:

One of the most brutal losses ever. I seriously thought about not taking anymore from the Bucs after this. Leftwich went wimp down the stretch. 3 up the middle plays inside the red zone to settle for a field goal in the fourth qtr? I’m not seeing any risks being taken with Arians. Bowles made an awesome plan for Barkely! Too bad he had no plan for anyone else. An outside twist with a guy we know to be mobile as heck? Why? If Suh and Vea rush the middle there is nowhere for that kid to go except into Barrett’s arms. Yeah Gay missed the kicks. He should be out of a job. The rest of them (except Evans, Barrett, and jameis) need to decide if they are here to play football or not. I live in Denver and have to out to watch the games. $40 and nothing but heartache to show for it. It’s painful. I can’t decide If I’m shelling out on them vs the Rams next week. Might be less painful on Redzone.

  78. Bobby Says:

If Gay makes the kick everybody’s talking about what a great last drive, etc.
You DO NOT throw the ball and try to score nor do I think you try another run and risk a fumble. They did exactly what they were supposed to do (except for the delay of game). You just have to make that kick, period.

  79. Coburn Says:

Game winning drive should have been the one before that… but nope that’s when they really shut jameis down. . 7 straight runs.. they had their destiny in their own hands and could have puy it away before relying on last minute heroics by Winston only to miss the kick. That’s when they really lost the game

  80. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF…..I think you give him at least a game. But if he can’t make his kicks next week I’m not so sure you should t just pull the plug.

Can’t keep employing a guy that can’t do his job. Then we are just flushing games down the toilet.

Really not so sure what the answer is. All I know is us Bucs fans have a totally different perspectives about kickers then 31 other cities. So it’s hard to understand what an overreaction or under reaction is at this point.

Mahomes? Did Mahomes get hit 20 times and sacked 4 times? Nope 1 sack probably 1 or 2 hits.

    Reality:
1 sack 8 QB hits against Mahomes

  82. tmntguy86 Says:

Makes it from 23 and 27 yards earlier in the same game. Missed two PATs which are from 33 yards out. 17/17 from 20-29 yards out in college. Yeah, let’s back him up bc he can’t make a kick inside the 30 yard line

  84. JimmyJack Says:

Bobby I pretty sure that even if we make that kick their still would be critism. Just like after the Panthers game quite a few people were complaining about the playcalling.

If we win yesterday I’m sure there are still people complaining about playcalling. And rightfully so. The Giants have maybe the worst secondary in football and we were destroying them with Evans and O.J. yet we somehow get away from it after halftime.

The Giants for sure made adjustments but where were ours? Leftwitch did get outcoached in that second half. He is not living up to the billing Bruce Arians gave him & if he don’t get better we will lose games because of it.

This one is still on the kicker but Bryon defiently could have avoided that.

  85. Coburn Says:

People need to be quiet about hits and sacks with Winston. He played a great firsr half and was somewhat hamstrung by coaching in wnd but the sacks I see him take week after week is jim just refusing to give up on a play. At some point you have to have the awareness to just get rid of the damn ball. Majority of them he’s just holding onto it way too long and I’m shouting get rid of it already.

As for thr kicker. . Well in a day the whole team is inconsistent should be expect any different? I give him one freebie.. next one is in him. If we are gonna a cut inconsistent people based on yesterday get rid of a bunch of coaches and players then. He did hit a couple longer ones that were certainly not easy

  86. tmntguy86 Says:

Also, while obviously Gay should have made the kick to win the game, there were other glaring mistakes that cost the Bucs the game as well. Just happens that when it comes down to the final kick, that’s always looked at as “the” reason why the team lost. Evans has 11 targets and 3 TDs in the first half. He had 4 targets in the second half. Why go away from what’s working? To run the clock out? You got conservative in your okay calling and that also lead to you losing the game. Poor clock management. While the defense played great in the first half, they gave up huge chunk plays in the second half that helped the giants take the game over. I mean, you could go on and on about various things that cost them the game. Unfortunately as Bucs fans we see this outcome way to often and try to pin point it in any one thing. There’s just a lot of things that made the end results what they were though.

2 weeks in a row this staff has gone ultra conservative and played not to lose, instead of playing to win.

Fck this team. So sick of watching them sh!t the bed week after week, season after season.

At least I can be happy I haven’t spent a single dollar of my hard earned money giving them any support since the 2016 season.

They don’t deserve it. Fans should boycott the games until they earn our respect again.

  89. TonyC Says:

What’s going to happen if this team falls apart as they’ve been apt to do in the past. They failed to keep or add vet depth in the secondary which I thought was a major mistake. The last time they had a decent defensive run (during the five game streak in 2017) there were some vets in the df backfield like MacDougald and Tandy. Next week’s a big game to measure if this coaching staff is legit and these players have fight in them. I’m concerned about the dbs particularly fragile players like VH 3.

  92. Mike Johnson Says:

lookahere..its all been said and done before when it comes to the Bucs. They find ways to lose. I saw it coming last week. A rookie QB waiting to take the Bucs hearts. 2 factors..Our coaching staff sheeped out and got scared after Jameis threw that interception. He threw no more. People here say we had a pass rush. I can’t tell..Jones had lotsa time to throw his balls accurately. In the past couple of months we by-passed on 2 good DE’s. Like I said before, this team is somebody’s tax deduction..a Hobby. Sure the kicker failed. But we had at least 5 other chances to clearly win this game big. Welcome to Tampa Bay Mr. Arians. Be careful..Not only will you end up back in the hospital, A couple more losses like this and…They are gonna set Lovie free and take you..in his place. Its still a….BucLife baby. The Rams will have..No Mercy.

  97. Pittsshore Says:

Hey Matt. DB 55 is nothing but a troll on this site. Don’t let him get to you.

  98. Bucsfanman Says:

Lets forget about the “game-losing” FG for a moment. FGs are variable: Distance, position, pressure, etc. What is not variable is an XP kick. If Gay makes the kick he missed, it’s a tie. If the other one doesn’t get blocked it’s a ‘W’ and it’s not even close.
Why the heck is our kicker missing XPs? Shouldn’t it be getting practiced extensively?
    Seriously! Extra-freakin’-points?!

  99. Anonymous Says:

they pulled the plug on Winston after the first half. They had an 18 point lead, and NYG has a weak D. Should be able to keep the rookie at bay have your (joke of a) franchise QB play more conservatively and put up another 10-15 points easily, right? No. They neutered Winston after the first half, and given his past play, rightfully so. So instead of exposing Winston’s incmpetetence to make reads, decisions, and throws like real franchise QBs, they diminish him so he doesn’t screw make them look bad. This is much more than building gameplan to accomodate weakness of the QB. This is an all out ruse to fool everyone.

  100. Anonymous Says:

Look, as long as the Glazers tolderate the Licht Arians charade to pretend Winston can be better, this underlying problem will fester. Fans suffer.

Bucs kicker resume should be – I’m not a basket case and there isn’t a kick I don’t like. I mean seriously, we drafted him in the 5th Rd. If this kicker doesn’t work out, Licht is fired after this season based on drafting kickers. How idiotic is that?

Gay wasn’t lights out in preseason and they knew he’s uncomfortable with gimme kicks and yet they dug their high heels in once again cuz they drafted him. They have been searching for Seabass all this time; why not just go and sign him out of retirement?

  105. down in the dirt doug Says:

I am normally a patient person ,but three more games with poor reults and the kicker needs to go.

  106. Pewter power Says:

Funny to blame Bowles because I’m pretty sure when he gave our defense the play it didnt call for Edward’s to whiff on a tackle and allow a 75 yard touchdown. People cant use coaching or talent as an excuse because these guys have been ballin unfortunately the secondary is young and its impossible not to have growing pains when teams basically spend a week looking for weaknesses. Personally we will know by week 10 who will be back and who goes next year.

  107. Biggun Says:

I guess we need two kickers then…… Chip shot and a long shot…. Problem solved let’s move on here… FIND ONE!!!

  108. Oneilbucs Says:

This has been Jamies hold career with this team. He put us in position to win the game and the defense or the kicking game gives up the game. And then some kind of way it’s Jamies fault!!!! I’m ready for Jamies to leave this trash fan base so we can please get another quarterback and the same thing will happen. We will still lose!!!!!

  109. Oneilbucs Says:

If we win the game this fan base will still find away to criticized Jamies for something. I’m almost done with this team bro !!! This fan base really sucks. If our defense would have played the same way in the first half we wouldn’t need a field goal. Look how the bears defense played. If Jamies would have had a defense like there’s he would be a super bowl winning quarterback. Just draft a white quarterback so we can build a real team!!!

  110. belgianbuc27 Says:

Bucs should just carry 3 kickers on the roster and cycle through them each miss lol
