Smelly game.

Prepare for the worst and expect the best.

In the current world of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, it might be time to quit trusting and expect the worst.

Actually, no “might” about it. The time has arrived.

In the pick-six that doomed Jameis and the Bucs near the end of the game, it appeared Jameis was trying to hit Dare Ogunbowale.

“I just have to put it on his body,” Jameis said. “If I make a better throw it is not a pick-six. … I should have thrown it in the dirt. It was a matter of trust.”

Jameis trusted Ogunbowale to be in the vicinity of where he threw the ball. He wasn’t, as there was a scrum near Ogunbowale and he got hung up. Why Jameis didn’t see this is something Joe cannot explain.

In a season where Jameis has to show growth, he took a huge step backwards. With the ball in his hands he had a chance to march the Bucs down the field for glory.

Instead, Jameis shat the bed.

Again.

Jameis has 15 more games to prove the Bucs should cut him another check. Right now, a couple of hours after the Bucs lost, in part, thanks to a pick-six from Jameis, it seems as though the Bucs are more likely to be cutting a check to Jake Fromm than Jameis come 2020.

This is Jameis Winston’s 17th career game with multiple interceptions, passing Blake Bortles for most in the league since Winston entered the NFL in 2015.

  13. Ndog Says:

See you say shouldn’t Jameis not make these mistakes but shouldn’t Barber run the route at the correct depth as well and shouldn’t Dare get out into his route as well? Fine blame Jameis whatever it really doesn’t matter anymore, but if the other players are not doing their job either does it really matter who the QB is?

  14. Wesley Says:

Clearly not the answer, there is no excuse for today. Let’s give Ryan Griffin a chance, seriously.

  15. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Why not start Ryan Griffin? We know what we have in Winston. The worst thing that Winston can do is play average for half the year and put the Front Office in football purgatory where they know he won’t ever win playoff games but they still want to resign him.

It’s year five. Where are the QB’s in recent memory who have need 5+ years to develop?

  16. Tye Says:

So far I’ve really like Jake Fromm in the games I’ve watched.. so many say Tua, which may be great but, I think Miami is locked in on him…
It would be nice to be done with the ‘jameis groupies’ era every day on this site as well!

Jameis definitely has the potential to be elite…

That said, almost every great QB that’s played this game has had a really great coach and in some cases a HOF coach…

Imho, not saying Bruce Arians is one of greats or a HOF caliber coach yet at this point but he is pretty good and by far the best coach Jameis has had so far in his career; and they believe in each other…Even without BA Jameis has found a way to get better every year so now that he has a competent coaching staff behind him I expect Jameis to silence his critics this year…

Sorry don’t have anything from Nodog or Rod muncher

  20. Zzbuc Says:

Remembre last year when he was benched????
There was a clear reason why and people hated Koetter for that!!
What are you gong to say about it?

  21. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Ndog

    You mad bro????

  22. Rayjay1122 Says:

Screw 15 weeks bro. If he plays poorly Thursday night, bench him for RG4 and give him the long week to prepare with the starters. Tired of throwing away seasons on trying to figure out if Winston is our future. He is not! It sucks yes but it is a fact we all know by now other than the knucklehead GM.

  28. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

TYE, watch jacob eason, if bucs go qb route he is the guy. I think they build a winning team in the OL/DL… then get a vet qb out there, then maybe t lawrence

  29. BrianBucs Says:

I love how so many people beleived Arians was going to come here, flip some magic switch and turn Winston into a true NFL franchise QB that wins championships.
Winston is who he is and no coach will ever change that.

  30. Petty Officer Buc Says:

You owe it to the others in the locker room to give Ryan Griffin a chance. Winston has squandered multiple years and his rookie contract is up. The others in that locker room are tired of losing and want change, just to see if things work out.

Look at RG3 and Kirk Cousins stepping in as the backup for the Redskins.

  31. tgregs Says:

Knucklehead GM made the call and won’t/can’t own the fup

  32. DBS Says:

  33. wantstastayabuc Says:

Ndog is here!!!!!! and of course his guy is not to blame!

F- the rest of the team. Winston would have won it all if it weren’t for the rest of the team and the coaches and the fans and the sun in his eyes, right Ndog?

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Joe says it appeared he was trying to hit Dare…….How freaking sad is that. Nobody really even knows what he was trying to do on that play. This dude just does not play at a professional level.

  35. OklahomaBucFan Says:

Americas QB my arse! He ain’t even Florida’s QB these days . I’d take the Jags back up over JW3 after seeing both of there performances today. But in all honesty we are stuck with him for 15 more brutal weeks. He will shine in a couple games and hen go back to his awful self for the majority, we will not be resigning him in the offseason and I don’t see Ariana and Licht Drafting a QB because Arians don’t want a rookie to groom at 68 years old and it also would mean he has to admit we are rebuilding not reloading as he claimed before we saw Winston take a dump all over our Home field. So now we all can speculate on what free agent QB we will go after in the offseason. Love being a Bucs fan we never get out of offseason mode anymore….FML

  38. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “They are not benching him.” I beg to differ Joe. BA constantly preaches ACCOUNTABILITY to his troops. How many debacles like today do you REALLY think that he’ll tolerate before he says ‘Enough is enough’?

It’s not about teaching Jameis a lesson … Jameis has moved way past that. It’s about putting a QB on the field who at least won’t lose games single-handedly like Jameis did today. What I see is a QB whose confidence is shattered. There’s a pretty good chance IMO that the game is longer FUN for Jameis. He’s playing scared … scared of making mistakes. Which inevitably leads to … MISTAKES.

This team knows that they played well enough to win today IF Jameis had just done his job. Nothing fancy, just DO YOUR JOB. Throwing 3 INTs, 2 of which result in Pick-6’s, is NOT DOING YOUR JOB. And now we move on to Carolina which showed a pretty formidable offense today AND a formidable defense, all with just 3 days to recover and prepare. We’ll be lucky if we’re not 21 point underdogs come Thursday.

  39. Chosen One Says:

To paraphrase Brett Hart, If you were to give the Bucs an enema, you’d stick the hose in Jameis.

  40. Ndog Says:

How can you even catch your breath with JW’s D all the way down your throat?

There’s only one person more pathetic than JW. See where I’m going here?

  47. Gotta Wonder Says:

I’ve come to wonder if Jameis problem is more that he thinks too much rather than thinks too little.

If a play takes above average time to develop, Jameis generally does well. I believe its because he has time to process. He gets in trouble when it comes to those rapid fire moments where you just have to react and trust your instincts. That’s what gets him in trouble. It would probably get a large majority of people in trouble. The last interception was a good example. The same with the delayed pass on the 4th and 2 going for touchdown. Instead of going on practiced instinct, he thought too much and bad results happened.

Sadly, developing those quick twitch instincts is possible, but it may just be too late for JW. The solution is just repetition of the same boring and monotonous action over and over again. He doesn’t have the luxury of time on his side

  48. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog

You know nothing about football, or eyeglasses either, apparently.

Give your JW poster a kiss for us…time for you to go night night.

  49. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog at the end of the day when all the cards where down we had a chance to win the game and had the ball.

Winston proceeded to throw one of the dumbest passes he had ever threw. He lost us the freaking game dude and he was bad all day. High pass over the middle, threw another into Kwons lap and had two more fumbles.

The QB lost us the game today bro. I expect much better then the crap he played today. Impissible to expect a victory with QB play that bad.

  50. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Gotta Wonder

He does not have the talent..pure and simple.

He did today what he has always done…slow start with inaccurate throws, pulls it together long enough t get back in n the game…then piss it away doing stupid $hit..

He was a not and never will be a starting NFL QB. If he works very very hard on his game, he might be a poor mans Fitzmagic one day..and that’s it

  52. JimmyJack Says:

Winson does not understand situations at all. He never has and he never will most likely. Some mistakes are forgivable and some aren’t.

His last pick today was totally unforgivable. And he’s been makes similar plays like that one his entire career. Never improved in five years. I will stay trying to support him but it’s invisible hope with nothing to stand on at this point.

    Also my head hurts.

  53. JimmyJack Says:

Well let’s not put Ryan Griffen in because let’s not give up on the season after just one game.

  54. BucsBandit Says:

JOE – You’re crazy if you don’t think Jameis gets benched by Week 4 or 5 if he continues to play like this. Arians doesn’t have the patience for it. You watch… Ryan Griffin will be named the starter before the halfway point unless Winston plays much better.

  55. OklahomaBucFan Says:

NDog I will answer you. Jay Miss Aka ATM Is the QB it is his job to protect the ball first, not make the same bone head throws he’s been making since college and making excuses for why it happened. Look I’ll give you that the running backs didn’t do what they needed to on those given plays but JW3 made so many foolish decisions in this game and bone head fumbled snaps and the same old shite he’s done since being taken #1. So no matter how you wanna slice this moldy ace bread your trying to feed us it’s still rotten and you know it. Time to admit it and move on Jameis Winston is a 2nd string Journeyman QB not America’s Qb Tampa’s Qb or anyone’s Starting Qb this time next year. “He’s a bum Rock”

  56. WalkdaPlank Says:

Another year, another season of having to watch this crap from a subpar QB in Jameis Winston and the idiots on JBF like Rod and Ndog defending him. I wanted Jameis to prove me wrong, I wanted to eat the crow and I wanted BA to change Jameis for the better.

He’s just as awful as ever, and I’ve never been less proud to be right. Jameis is terrible.

  57. ElioT Says:

“Just don’t throw it against Richard Sherman, to a running back” – Arians

    No sh*t Sherlock!!!

Who the heck ever called Barber to split out wide?

What is the point of that call? No one was buying it!

…then Jameis stared Barber down the entire time and Boom! #pick6

  58. Ndog Says:

I love you guys avoiding anything resembling a conversation. So you guys think the rest of the offense played well today? We had three dropped passed, a TE fumble the ball in the red zone along with a ball going off his hands for a pick and blow like 4 one on one blocks, guys running trash routes all over the place and your good with that? It is easy to blame the QB and that’s fine cut him whatever I just want to win, but if anyone thinks we can win with any QB with guys playing around the QB like this then you are sadly mistaken. So go ahead and move on, if the play overall doesn’t improve winning is not an option.

  59. BucsBandit Says:

    @Ndog

You’re such a casual fan, Jameis homer.

It’s not Dare’s fault if he gets JAMMED UP. Defenses often run schemes that will make a screen pass harder to complete for that very reason. He wasn’t able to release, he had guys in his way.

This is 1,000,000% Jameis Winston’s fault. It’s his job to make sure Dare is releasing and then put the ball where he can catch it.

So stop making EXCUSES like you always do for Winston’s bad play.

WHERE are your effin excuses now for how I always said Winston struggled to score early in games? And that he racked up so many garbage passing stats, just like today with his last 40-50 yards (to give him only 194 anyway)?? What about that??? The game was already over, yet he’s padding his stats with meaningless passing yards much as he’s done for FOUR YEARS.

And what about your precious “QBR” rating that I debunked?

YOU SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY *ASHAMED* OF YOURSELF for all the Jameis smack you talked in saying how great he was and heading for the…

    HALL OF FAME!

Hahahaha. Yes, you actually said he was going to end up in the HOF.

You should be nothing but embarrassed right now by his poor play yet here you are trying to make excuses for him and defend him, which is even MORE embarrassing!

0-3 headed out on extended road trip isn’t pretty right about now.

Thank you ATM, Licht and BA

  64. BucsBandit Says:

    NDOG,

Of course, other players made mistakes today. You realize that happens EVERY GAME in the NFL right? How often does any team have zero penalties? Or zero drops? Or zero fumbles?

It happens, it’s part of the game.

But why aren’t you giving more credit to the EXCELLENT PLAY of much of the rest of the team? Our young Defense played amazingly well in their 1st game together.

The O-Line played SOLID. We had some good rushing yards and they pass protected pretty well. All teams usually end up with some sacks in a game. That’s the NFL. You can’t stop some of the best D-Line athletes in the world from eventually disrupting some plays.

    AND…

How come you make no mention of Jameis’ fumble that could have been lost? Or what was mostly likely a THIRD PICK SIX of the game for Winston when Kwon dropped the INT that was right in his hands? Why no mention of that?

  65. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog yes I do think many other QBs could have won today with our offense.

Our team had the ball in the two minute drill down by 6. Tons of QBs are capable of leading that team to victory.

But our QB lasted one play and then made a awful terrible play and it single handely lost us the game.

He didn’t get the job done dude and that on him. And if you think he did play good enough to win today I’m here to tell you that your wrong.

  66. T REX Says:

    Where’s that punk Todd?

  67. Adrnagy Says:

@jimmyjack go cheers for the browns or Matt Ryan.

  68. JimmyJack Says:

BucBandit…..Make that 2 fumbles. Winston played so awful today that I think it’s safe to assume that fumble on the snap exchange was Winston’s fault.

  69. Fire Goodell Says:

  72. Ndog Says:

Im done arguing I just want to win and of they play like that they won’t period.

  73. BucsBandit Says:

Ndog – GOOD, man, welcome to the Club!

I think every real Bucs fan posting just wants to win!

All many of us want is a FAIR ANALYSIS of our team’s situation. And right now, as passionate as people get on both sides of the debate, Jameis Winston is holding back the team and just doesn’t look like he can play CONSISTENT enough to lead this team to becoming a winner again.

Take Winston’s inconsistent into account AND the fact that he’s in a contract year possibly in line to get paid $30M+ a year and locked into the team as our QB for the next 4-5 years (especially when we’re already in Cap Hell) AND…

Now maybe you see why so many of us are DEEPLY CONCERNED that the Bucs could be making a major mistake if they keep Winston.

  74. wantstastayabuc Says:

I cannot support BucsBandit enough. Ndog, you are a snobbish fraud.

After this, I leave BucsBandit behind and forge my own ground….

Ndog, your admirable support of the Bucs doesn’t excuse your absolute reckless support of a failure at QB. STOP TALKING. You are wrong. You are wrong. You are wrong.
You criticize so many on this site as uninformed football fans, claiming greater wisdom. It is glaringly obvious that you don’t know what you are talking about. STOP. Wait a few games and then return to tell us all how wrong we were to expect that a number one pick should return anything in the won/loss column 5 years after his draft.

  75. BucsBandit Says:

I have to EAT SOME CROW today…

I talked a bit of crap about Todd Bowles thinking he was overhyped and thinking his 3-4 scheme wasn’t going to work. I also said he’d have no chance of turning our current Defensive roster into a decent D…

    I WAS WRONG.

Bowles impressed me today with how he had the Defense playing. They looked downright IMPRESSIVE for several series. They were flying around, swarming the ball, and making some great plays.

Joe mentioned our pass rush wasn’t that great today. I DISAGREE. We didn’t have a ton of sacks, but I saw our Defense bringing pressure throughout the game and forcing Jimmy G into some hurried throws. They also STUFFED the run quite a bit until it seems they got tired later in the game.

  76. Ndog Says:

wantstastayabuc so you think the rest of the offense played well? You think we win last year with the worst defense in the league, you think we win with the worst keep kicking in the league? Please enlighten us all how am I wrong there tough guy? Are all those statements wrong? Bro get a clue and try understanding the game of football. When you start to understand let’s talk or I could teach you a thing or two but please know with your lack of basic football knowledge it could take awhile.

  77. DBS Says:

Lost in all this? He was not asked to throw 45 or 50 times. Nor come from the usual deficit they always were before. So that excuse goes out the window also.

  78. T REX Says:

The winstonpologists can get all you can eat crow right here…are you man enough to take it and say it?

  79. BucsBandit Says:

    Ndog,

    It’s very simple…

Jameis WInston, the leader of the Bucs, and the most important player on the team…

He’s either more of an ASSET or he’s more of a LIABILITY.

Which do you think he is more often than not if you can only pick ONE?

If you say he’s an ASSET then you truly don’t understand football. His turnovers and bad decision making has been a massive reason why we haven’t won more. Many of us have been screaming this fact from the rooftops for ages.

Did others on the Offense have some bad plays? YES, no doubt. But like I already stated, that happens in every game with almost every team. People make false starts, or drop passes, or run bad routes, or commit costly penalties.

But c’mon, man, when ONE player throws 2 pick sixes, another INT, an INT that should have happened, and potentially TWO lost fumbles… you don’t think that’s HIS fault and had a massive impact on the game? Or causing a Loss Of Down when throwing the ball away while inside the tackles? For someone with a high football IQ that sure seemed like a stupid mistake he should have been aware not to make.

AND OH YEAH… not to mention how poor Winston’s productivity & efficiency was all game. He was under 50% completion rate for most of the game until the 2nd half.

  80. BucsBandit Says:

    @T REX,

No, they won’t. In fact, the opposite will happen…

Jameis will eventually put a decent game together and they’ll point at that as his “normal” play. They just don’t get it that it’s his INCONSISTENCY that makes him a terrible starting NFL QB.

  81. Pittsshore Says:

I wonder if he will be making his usual home post game stop at the Penthouse, since it is a short week.

  82. Cobraboy Says:

The salary cap will be no problem next season with Winston gone.

  83. Longtime fan Says:

I’ve been a die-hard fan since the 80s. I’ll be back when Winston’s gone. Keep lying to yourself if you think this will ever change with him in charge.

  84. BucsBandit Says:

Cobraboy – he’s not gone just yet, unfortunately. He could string some half decent games together and make the front office overlook his inconsistency thinking he’ll play like that more often; which we’ve been burned by time and time again when he returns to his turnover ways.

  85. BucsBandit Says:

I JUST REWATCHED THE REPLY (of the late game INT on the screen pass)…

Everyone should watch it again if they think it somehow wasn’t Winston’s fault…

#57 on the 49ers sees that it’s a designed screen before Winston even throws the ball, he moves left to shed his block and jams Dare on purpose to close off his route.

This is 100% not Dare’s fault on the INT. Winston needed to be able to make sure Dare was breaking clean before throwing the ball and he didn’t do that, he got under pressure and threw up the prayer hoping Dare would be there.

  86. Bucs_Fan_Orlando Says:

Pro bowler….. He went to the pro bowl in 2015 Because Brady was in the superbowl and didn’t want to play.

    JW was an alternate,

The bucs were 6 – 10 in 2015 the year JW was voted an alternate to the pro bowl.

JW QBR for 2015 was 61.1

He might be the lowest rated QB to ever be an alternate for the pro bowl lol

  87. wantstastayabuc Says:

Ndog, I know that your pattern suggest that you win by suggesting that no one else knows anything about football but you, but consider ………the evidence supports that that you are a buffoon and should stop telling others to disbelieve their lying eyes. The Bucs would not suffer if someone else was their quarterback; Fitzgerald proved this. STOP Be quiet unless you start supporting the Buc and not Jaymiss.

  88. Losinghope Says:

wantstastayabuc what does Larry Fitzgerald have to do with us. See my point about people not knowing what they are talking about?

  93. Tvan101 Says:

If you support Winston after this game I am not sure you can be helped. Obviously our whole offense was sloppy, but winston stinks.

  94. wantstastayabuc Says:

Wow! You got me, in my haste to type my post I said Fitzgerald instead of Fitzpatrick. That undid every bit of horse crap that you’ve been slinging here for a long time. right? Well played, My goodness, why don’t you just admit that you were wrong?

You can’t at this point because you NEED him to be a good QB so that you can save face. Right?

Come on….Just let go…. and accept what you’ve always known……
Jaymiss is not the QB of the future.

Or, instead, find glory in some other misspelling in my posts.

So 87 thinks we lost today because of BA?

Lol take off the blinders bro.

Jameis, Howard, Dotson and D Smith get the blame more than anyone.

    Simple as that.

    Ndog knows football

    That’s it

Just wait until Jameis has a good game
    He will let you know

Hey WeeManOfScots, word of advice neve ever ever drink MD 20/20. Stick with ye Rum we arrr pirates after all. Blackheart Rum and watermelon crush soda over crushed ice is what I turn to. But MD 20/20 wine is not a good drink.

The first SHOW ME event showed me, our Defense looked good, all our RB’s looked good overall, and Jones has his first good game. 44 “is for you!!” Hands on our WR’s TE’s look like they all need to spend extra time this week with the Jugs machine., RG Cappa looked like he has been learning his craft,(where is Mankins and his BBQ’S) Dot got robbed on the first flag definitely held in on the second. Love ya Dot we need a replacement. Our freshly PAID LT stiffed us. He looks uninspired slow and lost on most plays. Jensen looked good, Marpet looked his normal very good self. Run blocking looking good for all our backs. The passing game plays looked long in the making, the screen plays need some more work. Our QB played his fourth opener in his Fifth season and played his normal (as we have seen here) game, a few great plays followed by some not so good, and some just completely poor plays from a fifth year NFL QB.

Next SHOW ME EVENT is the Panthers. I hope we as a team are all up for this game, this is a division game. We need to and can win our division. But we have to hit them in the mouth more than they hit us for 60 minutes! Every game we play them. Bring on the smurfs.
    SHOW ME!!!
    GO BUCS!!!

  101. Ed Says:

NFL is a game-to-game season, yesterday was an “F” for the Winston tryout for a contract. Does anyone know if this years option is a week-to-week salary or if he was guaranteed money. If JW cannot get a win Thursday or vs the Giants and in this “do or die” season for him, he keeps failing, then cutting him makes perfect sense. Go with Griffin, hand the ball off, throw screen plays, speed up the passing plays as Griffin will make better decision. Ryan isn’t a great deep ball thrower but Jameis best deep balls sail 10 yards past receivers or into the stands.

Really, can it get worse than watching a 5 year vet fumble and “panic” as Ronde Barber said yesterday. Honestly, if you put Brad Johnson on this team it could at least be a .500 ballclub. And Brad didn’t have a great arm but he knew his plays and lead by example.

    Americas Turnover Machine… SMDH😳

  103. Bobby Says:

I agree with Ed. The season isn’t over after one game but it was such a bucket of puke from Winston that you have to question his ability to ever mature to the point where he can live to play another down instead of forcing the ball when the play isn’t there. I’d have to say it’s just who he is. He can be whispered to till the cows come home but his own inner voice shouts louder and blocks out all reason. I’d love to see him turn it around but I don’t see it happening. 5 years is long enough.

  104. VA Tom Says:

    “A” pick six? Wasn’t it a pick 12

  105. 74 Bucs fan Says:

I’ve been a Jameis “supporter” but that was just really bad! He threw 3 picks (the one to Howard not his fault), but there were 2 more that were simply dropped. So that would have been 4 completely on Jameis, for a grand total of 5. Yikes. Granted, he had steady pressure in his face most of the day, but he still must perform. That sucked!

    any chance winston gets suspended?
