More History

September 30th, 2019

Records falling.

Joe has already written how much Tampa Bay history he witnessed in the Bucs’ stunning win over the Rams in their historic stadium yesterday.

The Bucs scored 55 points, most in Bucs history. And the two teams combined for the most completed passes in a game in NFL history (73). But thanks to the four-letter, it seems Joe saw defensive history from the Bucs as well — history of the good sort.

Joe has read a couple of national outlets claims that Shaq Barrett should be the leading candidate (through four games) for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Joe cannot remember at any time after only four games a Bucs defender being pimped for such an honor in September.

If Barrett does win this award — lot of time left in the season, clearly — then how on earth could this organization let him walk out the door and sign with another team?

Tag him and work out a deal

  2. DB55 Says:

Simply outstanding. Kudos to Suh and VV for pressure up the middle creating oops for Shaq. Everyone get props.

Fyi- the dline has a female coach. #girlpower

  3. LordCornelius Says:

The guy is super fun to watch. Way more athletic off the snap than I ever realized or saw in Denver.

Yeah…lol…at last I agree 100% with your post!

I’m big on team chemistry. I’m not a huge fan of signing Jalen Rose for that reason. I concede some teams with long traditions and powerful coaches can work with head cases although even the Steelers a truly class and successful organization with a great no nonsense coach in Tomlin were torn up by just a few head cases.

Sack Barrett seems to be the polar opposite. He seems to be a true team player and he “gets it”!

He’s incredibly smart and studies his opponents and remember this…Sack Barrett was offered MORE $$$ by Denver than by the Bucs. He believed in himself enough to realize that there is more to life than simple $$$…he went for the opportunity with the Bucs where he knew he’d get a lot of playing time.

How did taking less money work out for him?

  6. YoungBucs Says:

They let Bennett walk for a warm beer, told Revis to get to stepping. So this organization never surprises me anymore with lame knee jerk decisions.

  7. YoungBucs Says:

I would make signing this guy into a contract “TOP PRIORITY” he has the intangibles with a high motor Oh and no neck brace.

  8. Bucamania Says:

Dude is a monster! Perfect example of a hungry player who gets his chance to shine in a system designed for his talents.

Bucs will need the franchise tag for him with Drew Rosenhaus as his agent.

  9. firethecannons Says:

He is only 26 years old too–so crazy to think how we would of been glad to take Bosa or Allen in the draft and here we got Shaq instead. Amazing riches ! Bucs need to capitalize just like Shaq said–cant be letting a quarterback throw for 500+ yards and Bucs lose games at end. I would like to see this team take the Saints apart. We have confidence and we have coaching now. Go Bucs!

  10. BucsminsterFuller Says:

YougBucs don’t forget they let Lych go because they didn’t think he had much football left in him. 3 probowl appearances followed.

  11. Snook Says:

Long term deal after one season? No thanks. Tag him and show us he can do it again.

That is, if he keeps it up for the remaining 12 games.

  12. Matthew Fifer Says:

    @ StPetebucsfan

“I’m big on team chemistry. I’m not a huge fan of signing Jalen Rose for that reason.”

I think you mean Jalen Ramsey :). Despite the fact that he’s 46, and played basketball rather than football…I’d rather have Jalen Rose on this team, than Ramsey. Ramsey is no better an option than any team looking at picking up that scumbag Antonio Brown. Diva’s are not welcome!

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Simple…just give him Dee Ford’s money.

Watching Shaq’s conferences…he seems to be a team player and appreciates the opportunity…I think he would love to stay….

  14. DB55 Says:

    SPBF

Glad we agree. Not sure where you’re going with the money.

Imo the nfl has no love or loyalty for their players. Teams change contract terms at a whim so players need to get their money and be selfish about it.

  15. MadMax Says:

But, but, we need a DE to have a pass rush!x! Lol

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

DB55- I’m glad you mentioned Suh and Vea. It’s abundantly clear that the effect they are having in jamming the middle is allowing Shaquil to take the edge.
I’m hopeful that we will see dividends on Devin White in both the run and passing game.

  17. Coburn Says:

I think vea and suh definitely helying but hes winning those 1 on 1s. Having said that. .. was Vea just tired at the end of the game? I started focusing on him more and sure I saw at least a few snaps where he was singled and not doing much although be did get his hands up. Maybe somethinf with scheme f play I dunno

  18. TampaTown Says:

Shaq has a million watt smile and super-cute dimples. The endorsement deals should start rolling in soon.

  19. BUC CHEEKS Says:

He’s not going anywhere! Tagged at the very least. He’s putting up stupid dumb fat numbers! Splash plays every game! No effing way he gets away. Right?! BucsLife? Nahhhh, u can’t eff this up:/ BETTER NOT

  20. DB55 Says:

I know a guy who is considered a successful business man by some although records indicate that may not be the case. He’s a total scum bag yet he’s beloved by millions. He’s cheered by millions when he insults everyone and anyone including handicapped people as one example.

Yet certain football players are held to a much higher standard. And I say certain Bc Mayfield has no problem making it onto the Heisman house commercials much less Hulu live although he has a criminal record and is on video resisting arrest but Jameis can’t come close to visiting the Heisman house or any other sponsors even though he’s has no criminal record.

It’s a long uphill road for many. Very different standards based on who you are.

  21. Bojim Says:

Like Joe said. Re-sign Jameis and tag Barrett.

  22. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Not just because I had money on the game.

But this was the most exciting BUCS game – that I’ve attended since we beat ARIZ back in 2010.

It might take me a couple days to recover from this one.

  23. SOEbuc Says:

He’s sublime coming off the edge next to Vea and Suh. QB are looking outta the corner of their eye all the time now. Drop more LB into coverage on passing plays cuz Shaq-B is setting records and All-Star RBs are getting shut down by this dline.

  24. BucHusker Says:

Half my family is in Colorado so I’ve always followed the Broncos too. Going back to 2015 Shaq always flashed when he got in the game. I always thought if he had the opportunity he’d be a solid starter so I was really happy when we signed him in free agency but I had no idea he’d be like this! All those years with Von really payed off. We need to lock him up like YESTERDAY!

  25. LordCornelius Says:

    @LUV

That’s awesome man! I went to the Saints opener last year and that was the best game I’d ever been to. This game had a similar vibe but even crazier lol

  26. mark2001 Says:

Good news on Cichy…dislocated elbow and at worst, possible radial head fracture. Should be back this year.

  27. Posey99 Says:

You have to give a lot of credit to the interior folks… Best DT tandem in football and there is a reason why we keep shutting down the RUN

  28. Brandon Says:

Here’s the Shaq dilemma. The Bucs need to sign him and JW. They can give the franchise tag to one but not both. It MIGHT actually be in Barrett’s best interest to sign a cap/team friendly deal NOW rather than wait to see how this season goes. Maybe he cools off, worse yet, maybe he gets hurt right before he’s eligible for free agency. If that the case, no long term deal, no franchise tag money either. Locking him up for the next five with a deal that is good for both MIGHT be the smart thing to do for both sides.

  29. Anonymous Says:

After searching for a player like this since Simeon rice No way we let him walk Gerald McCoy who?????

  30. DB55 Says:

    Bucsfan

You really think white will play better than minter? Imo you can’t ask for more than what minter is doing. It was Minter’s pReSsUrE up the middle on a blitz that led to Shaw’s interception. I haven’t seen white get through on a blitz in the preseason or regular season.

Not to mention Minters pass coverage is pretty decent, he’s been burnt on a crossing route or two but for the most part he’s in his spot and is making plays left and right.

The defense as a whole plays better with him in the middle, he knows what he’s doing and I think it would be a mistake to start White

  31. DB55 Says:

Lol. Pressure just came up like that wasn’t on purpose. Lol

  32. Anonymous Says:

Suh is doing what GMC never could in all of his years as a Buc. He’s suffocating the middle with Vea and pushing offensive linemen back. It was really cool to see him get a TD against his last employer. I predicted a closer game but nevertheless a Bucs’ Win. The Bucs often play better against good teams and have careless losses against garbage teams. Now they just need to go on a win streak and beat everybody that gets in their path. Great job by the coaches this week

  33. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    LC

I was pissed all last week.
Didn’t return calls from my kids or friends (especially from my NY potnas).
Didn’t wanna hear nothing about the BUCS.

So I needed a game like this. We need a game like this.

Shout-Outs 2 all my West Coast Bucs fans that were reppin’ hard yesterday!!!
    #WestUp

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

DB55- It’s not that Minter isn’t playing well. He’s irreplaceable if you ask me. In theory, he’s supposed to be the “back-up”. Which, is why I brought up White.
White is considered the more dynamic player just based on draft position alone. We don’t know yet. Having a guy like Minter helps the Bucs take their time bringing back White.
Either way, they’re in good shape at that position. I just wonder if they take more or less risks with Minter in the game.

    @Joe another piece of history:

    @NFLResearch
.@Buccaneers vs @RamsNFL is the first game in the Super Bowl era where both teams made a field goal of at least 58 yards.

  37. ocala Says:

My guess is the Bucs will resign Jamies, extend Godwin and resign Shaq at the end of the year. I think Shaq loves this defense for his style of play and the Bucs do not want him going anywhere.

  38. LordCornelius Says:

    @LUV

Me too man that was one of the hardest losses in a while, and this team gives us a lot of memorable heartbreaks lol. Should be 3-1 but in general my #1 hope for this team is to see improvement over the course of the season

  39. Bradentonbuc Says:

If he walks it’s a travesty

  40. mark2001 Says:

EL…fire Licht…so you also want to fire the guy calling the shots, Arians and staff. .Arians has vouched for him..he is calling the shots, and wouldn’t even be here if not for Licht… good call. Coaching doesn’t matter…LOL.

  41. Howard Cosell Says:

If Barrett does win this award — lot of time left in the season, clearly — then how on earth could this organization let him walk out the door and sign with another team?

Yes the Michael Bennett debacle set the Bucs D back for a decade

  43. SCBucsFan Says:

The problem is if he wants to be here; if we tag JW then we have no leverage. Without leverage do you think he stays?

  44. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Wow Bradley Chubb tore his ACL!!! Ouch!!! And we have his would’ve been replacement right here recking the league!

  45. SB Says:

Just rewatched the game. The entire front 7 were beasts.
Imagine if we had a secondary.

  46. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Matthew

Yep busted. LMAO Getting too old and I did have a lot of respect for Rose. I respect Ramsey’s talent for sure but the rest…not so much.

@DB55 I hear you and honestly understand your point.

Yeah why should privileged old dudes many of whom inherited their wealth anyway and who NEVER actually put their bodies on the line get all the bucks…I’m always on the players side in that argument.

I think the “loyalty” issue though goes both ways. Honestly the money is absurd on ALL sides. The Glazers make waaay too much…20 million a year is too much for JW or ANY QB or player…but they’re not going to lower ticket prices so as long as the league continues to rape it’s fans I’m with you give the money to the players.

But you’ve touched on the very core of what this is about. Fans and the players and teams they support. As a fan who argued vehemently at times against sometimes (you would call them toothless racists and some were) people who were just making it personal about JW….I PERSONALLY felt betrayed by the AZ adventure. If I support JW I’d like a little return support.

Where you and I differ is acting as if the Bucs suckitude was some vendetta against JW. Our OL problems for example are no different than all the problems we’ve had.

Even you have to admit Licht tried to deliver on #WeaponsforJameis He had ME13…Licht found Hump and Brate and then added OJ and the best 3rd round pick of the last decade Godwin. I won’t argue with you about how much time it took him to get the OL in shape but I think we’re only a player away now.

Whatever it’s all good now. JW has grown up…he has a coach who truly believes in him and hugged him up like I plan to do with my son Sunday night when he arrives for his visit. Does that mean BA has become a father figure for JW? That could by hyperbole…BA loves his own son more I’m sure but it’s clear BA has become fond of his QB for more than just his talent.

If you’ve ever been in a war zone you would realize that combat forges a bond between brothers…hence that great HBO series.
And yes grown men can say to each other I love you without fearing something is wrong with their masculinity.

I think this team is starting love each other like brothers in a foxhole. Watching JW’s interaction with Jensen on the sidelines and BA’s affection for JW…can you tell I’m getting excited. LMAO

White is more suited for assistant to the assistant drive thru manager late nights wendy’s or bk…. white was a huge mistake period

  50. SOEbuc Says:

    DB55

Agreed. Minter is a banger. Coverage, rush. He can obviously blitz well if you saw what play I’m thinking of. There is no doubt you gotta give White reps. Ain’t gonna be Benenoch vs. Cappa 2019.

Minter is 28 and knows this defense. Thought WTF when they let White where the green dot.

Minter is wearing the dot now, but LVD is always calling out good shifts and formations in our awesome LB corp. Never got it from the get go. “Oh, but, he’s never played ILB before…” Bullspit.

  51. SOEbuc Says:

…Need to start blitzing with LBs like LVD and stop showing big blitz with these young DBs in your secondary. Goff got away much more and completed good passes for obviously good yardage way more than when we had good pressure on him.

…Except for Jordan Whitehead. What was it? Three PD and a pick? Did one of those PD lead to a Goff pick??? I don’t remember. That’s squeaky clean. He’s only gonna get better in time. Nice.

  52. JimmyJack Says:

Don’t always agree with DB55(closet jets fan) but he dead on about VitaV and Suh being huge for our edge rushers. And then you factor in Bowles throwing blitzes at the offense from everywhere & you are giving Barrett tons of one on ones where he is almost unstoppable.

Also heard Ian Beckles on the radio(forgive me for listening to that creep he cohosts with) make a great point………Our runstop is forcing tons of 2nd/3rd and long situations which is going to give a passrusher optimal opportunities.

DB55 is also right. That girl coach we have is the bee’s knees.

  53. BigMacAttack Says:

Shaq beats tackles repeatedly. They are holding him a lot and it doesn’t get called. If he can start going to the ground on some plays when they hold him, he’ll get those calls c
