Lynch Personally Counseling Kwon Alexander

September 7th, 2019

Back in 2004, John Lynch was a jacked up and slightly bitter guy.

Lynch had just been shunned by the Buccaneers, whose regime thought Lynch wasn’t worth a continued investment following neck issues. Of course, Lynch landed in Denver quickly and proceeded to make four consecutive Pro Bowls and earn a spot in the Broncos Ring of Honor.

Four games into his Denver career, Lynch returned to face the Bucs in Tampa. It’s a somewhat similar situation to Kwon Alexander coming back to play the Bucs on Sunday.

That’s not Joe’s opinion. Lynch talked about it during an extensive interview the 49ers’ official website this week. In fact, Lynch said he’s personally counseling Kwon Alexander on how to handle keeping his emotions in check while his intensity sky-high.

In that ’04 game against the Bucs, Lynch’s Broncos won 16-13, with Lynch racking up six solo tackle including two for a loss, plus one pass defensed.

Joe looks at Kwon’s inevitable overflowing aggression against the Bucs to be an advantage for Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. If you know a guy is going to be all jacked up, then find a way to exploit that. Frankly, Joe thinks this could be a huge key to what likely will be a very tight game.

In 2004 Jon Gruden 100% ran the Bucs and thought Charlie Garner, Tim Brown and every injured mid-30s offensive lineman in America was more important to the team than John Lynch and Warren Sapp. He needed to prove he could win with more than Dungy’s team – and we saw the results.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Being mentored by the second dumbest gm in the league is hardly newsworthy. Lynch is matt Millen

  3. Pickgrin Says:

Yep – go right at Kwon.

Let him show off that surgically repaired knee along with those over commitment, bad angle and getting swallowed up by blockers skills that his 4 years of tape as a Buccaneer are full of…..

  4. Pickgrin Says:

    $13.5 MILLION….

    Bahahahahahaha

Lynch succumbing to the PT Barnum quote about “a sucker born every day”…

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Dungy couldn’t win with Dungy’s team. Gruden brought in a group of new players. The team turned over by 20%. Study history, brah.

  6. rhenry Says:

Dungy’s team, PFFFFTTT. You do realize Sam Wyche drafted the core of our vaunted defense aka Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks and John Lynch. Give me a break with that Dungy’s team bull spit. All three coaches had a hand in our super bowl victory.

  7. mark2001 Says:

John can take it however he wants….but at the time, I could understand why the Bucs didn’t want him to keep playing. Their doctors, as I remember, thought he might be one hit away from paralysis. And the Glazers didn’t want to face that possibility. Glad he had some good years after that…. and even more glad he wasn’t paralyzed. But if that is your beef John, all I can say is that I thought you were smarter than to hold that against the team.

  8. tmaxcon Says:

Rod munch a nut trying to rewrite history again. Dungy the ignorant one dimensional clown failed…. clinging to losers is sad and pathetic ill pray for you….

  9. unbelievable Says:

Yup, suck him in with the play fake…

  10. WillieG Says:

Kwon was pretty jacked up and emotional in Atlanta after his brother was killed. He had something like 400 tackles and 57 interceptions. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration……I think it was 10 solo tackles and a pick or two.

And John Gruden won with Jon Gruden’s team. What two things do all of the following have in common: Keenan McCardel, Ken Dilger, Ricky Dudley, Joe Jurevicious, Jeff Christy, Kerry Jenkins, and Roman Oben.

1 They were all brought in by Gruden
2 They were all better than the players they replaced. That’s be Dungy’s players.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Excellent point Mark. In the final analysis, NFL football is a business. And the Glazers made a business decision. Sometimes you’re right. Sometimes you’re not.

And Joe, I agree with you about it more than likely being a very tight game. I’m expecting a defensive battle, with the final score being 20-16 Bucs. Three total TDs and 5 FGs between the two teams. It’s gonna be very interesting to see what we’ve REALLY got this year after all the changes.

  12. DB55 Says:

Best part about Kwon is his mom. Hello miss you are YOU doing. She is FOINE

  13. Wesley Says:

He’s seriously in the Broncos ring of honor? That’s just ridiculous.

His best years were as a bronco pal that’s unquestioned…. bucs were irrelevant one year wonders

  15. JimmyJack Says:

A sad reminder of how Gruden dismantled a once proud defense. Made moves that we never recovered from & the effects are still felt to this day.

I’m hopeful that Tod Bowles has started a new Era of Bucs football & will give us a defens that we can again be proud of. The first step is competence.

Let’s the Bucs get good first then we can get great!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  16. ModHairKen Says:

JimmyJack, exactly what are you referring to? Letting Cancer Sapp go? And how is it still felt today, ten years later? Gruden was 9-3 before injuries killed the 2009 season, including to gimp Brooks who let McFadden ruin the Raiders game.

Gruden was the best hire and worst fire in team history.

  17. Snook Says:

Kwon isn’t even that good to begin with. How many full seasons has he played? Leader of one of the worst defenses. Good luck with that SF.

  18. Snook Says:

Half of 2002 roster was new. Look it up. Team was dismantled because Bruce Allen put us in cap hell.

I’ll give you that, but the defense that carried that team was still the Dungy/Kiffin defense. Gruden brought what was needed–just enough offense to take the team over the finish line. Just like Dungy brought just enough defense to Colts to let that offense carry them to the finish.

  21. ed kerber Says:

Gruden is the Antonio Brown of coaches. Tons of talent. Also tons of baggage. Rich Mckay deserves some credit for building the Bucs. Gruden was needed to win the big one. Bruce Arians was gonna be brought in to run offense. He knew Dungy didn’t have enough time to build. He passed on the job then. There were several key Free Agents brought in under Gruden in that first year. But when McKay tried to balance the second year and was shown the door. If Gruden turns the Raiders around, I’ll change my tune.

  22. Cobraboy Says:

I would run right at Alexander, then play action his jockstrap off.

    I can’t remember a more overrated player.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

WillieG – In 2002, Rich McKay was running the team, not Gruden. Gruden threw a hissy fit after McKay wouldn’t sign an old injured washed up Andre Rison and went to the Glazers to get McKay fired. He then put his stooge Bruce Allen in place. Gruden’s boys are Charlie Garner, Tim Brown and every mid-30s offensive lineman – just as I said.

  24. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Tight game my asshole it’s going to be a curb stomping Bucs win 42 -16

  25. Rod Munch Says:

I hope so Pryda, that would be a great way to start a season.

I could not agree more! Go Tampa Bay!!

  27. Doctor Stroud Says:

Kwon’s return should be “emotional” for the Bucs players, too, and should channel those emotions into a win. For the past several times that the Bucs have played the Broncos in Tampa, the Broncos have escaped with wins and bad sun burns. Let’s end those streaks today!
