Happy Bucs GM

September 13th, 2019

Relief.

You don’t see this too often.

As Joe has stated, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is not a popular man in the Tampa Bay area. As the losses for the Bucs have piled up and piled up and piled up over the years, more and more fans have been throwing rocks at Licht.

And as draft pick after draft pick falls by the wayside, Bucs fans grow even more bitter at the man running football operations at One Buc Palace.

Sometimes Joe wonders who Bucs fans hate more, Joe or Licht?

So when the Bucs lost a very winnable game Sunday with the most famous of Licht’s draft picks, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, having one of his worst games, the wolves were out both locally and nationally.

It has not been an easy time for Licht. But last night, captured in this WTVT-TV Channel 13 video Twittered out by WTVT-TV sports director Scott Smith, Licht stood at the entrance to the Bucs locker room following the win over the Stinking Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and greeted every Bucs player and every coach coming off the field.

And of course, he had a big ol’ bear hug for Bucco Bruce Arians.

You can view the elated Licht in the video below.

Talk about someone having a giant weight lifted off his shoulders.

I love Devin greeting everyone there as well. I swear, all it takes is Jameis being a little less panicky (the flip side of hero ball), and this team can be special.

  2. Bird Says:

    A hurt Devin White too

  3. LoveBucs Says:

Jason –Should have drafted Dalvin Cook, who will be Pro-Bowl RB this year. And Derwin James – so easy….Dang.

I like OJ Howard – but not a game-changer, like Dalvin could be for the offense. and I love Cameron Brake….dude just gets open and catches passes and TD’s. A baller!

I like Vea….his presence does not make headlines, but he is solid and impactful. Yet, Derwin is disruptive…hmmm.

And what about RB’s in past Drafts, like Marlon Mack, right in our back yard?

Oh well. I still support Jason. He got us BA, who is his most significant FA win. BA will get us to playoffs!

  4. FireJasonLicht Says:

Yea Derwin is real disruptive sitting on his couch with a blown knee and what has Dalvin Cook ever done in this league? Nothng that’s what. You can always tell the FSU Homer’s on this team by the clown ass comments they make.🤣😂

  5. Jean Lafitte Says:

Contrary to all the haters beliefs, Lichts wants to win and likes to too!

He’s as big a fan as he is a GM. Congrats Jason

  6. Polk Says:

A little off topic but I would love to see an offer for minkah fitz, maybe a 2nd and add in Mj Stewart. I love how the defense is looking but I just don’t think Mj is fast/agile enough for the slot position. From his college days minkah played every Defensive back spot and excelled, plus he’s got 4.4 speed.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

LoveBucs … If the Bucs make it to the playoffs, it’ll be because of Todd Bowles and the Bucs’ defense. Our D is still gelling & growing, and it can be even better IMO. BUT … to expect it to hold opponents to 14 PPG is most likely unrealistic. They’re playing like world-beaters right now, but it’ll be hard to get those same results against high-powered offenses like the Saints, Falcons, Rams, Titans, Colts, etc, all of whom are on our schedule this year. We NEED the Bucs’ offense to score more points while still minimizing costly turnovers & penalties.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

Bird … I’m hoping Devin White and Jameis are both OK. Still haven’t heard anything about the extent of their injuries from last night.

  9. Buc'n Enough Says:

Every blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while….

  10. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Come on Joe…Bucs fans love you guys. Even the ones who call you out continue to flock to your site. As for Licht…glad he enjoyed the win. He needs to give the coaching staff a rules refresher…back to back timeouts? I’m shocked Newton didn’t sneak it over the top only needing a few feet. He doesn’t seem “right” at all.

  11. Boogie Says:

loveBUCS STFU! that is all GO BUCS!

  12. Old School Athlete Says:

Been saying all along Licht’s bust rate is pretty much average. It’s not his evaluation of talent that’s the problem. It’s that past coaches could not properly use it or develop it.
It’s great to see a huge road win against a divisional opponent especially after a deflating loss. That says a lot about coaching and preparation right there. Last year’s team would not have responded this way, I don’t believe.

  13. 1sparkybuc Says:

It seems to me we lose a lot of key players to injury too often when we play the panthers. Headhunters?

  14. Bird Says:

    We luv logical joe

    The other is the worst

  15. FortMyersDave Says:

@Old School Athlete Says: Yeah the actual % of draft bust for Licht are probably run of the mill for the league but averaging 5 to 6 wins a season under his tenure as GM has to be just about the lowest mark for a GM who has lasted as long as him. That is what fans look at; wins! However, while I am one who has thrown many a stone at Licht over his numerous gaffes I also will admit he is not solely to blame as guys like Lovey, Dirk, Mikey Smith also contributed to the attitude of losing along with some of Licht’s questionable FA acquisitions like Baker, DJax, numerous kickers and inept linemen on both sides of the ball. The cure for fans and Licht’s salvation? Just ****ing win! Good to see the Bucs bust someone up in their own crib after seeing so many clubs (both good and bad) do it at the Den of Depression. Bring on the 0-2 Giants!

  16. David Says:

    I like Licht.
    His track record is decent.

All these fans naming one player they would have taken instead of someone else and think they know better.
Hindsight is easy. How about you list 30 players the last couple years you would’ve taken instead of who they took and figure out your percentage of how good you really did. It’s probably crap.

  17. SB Says:

You A$$hats still acting butthurt should go find another team.
This team is balling out right now to the best of their abilities in a new system.
    Be happy or GTFO.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    Licht didn’t fix the pass rush….run game…oline….lol…

    GO BUCS

  19. TampaTown Says:

Don’t know what you’re talking about Joe. Of all the things we hate, you don’t even make the list.

  20. mark2001 Says:

One thing Joe… I don’t really see Jameis as “Lichts pick”. Yes, he was the GM that year…but remember…Lovie was hired first, was given ultimate power, and he got the GM of his choice…and QB draft pick of his choice. He had the power over these choices, just as he did with the cutting of Revis. Now Arians has the power Lovie did, as Licht was on thin ice and I think the Arians hiring saved his job..for the time being at least. I don’t think that is a small detail.

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

    Cool!
    Howard likes Licht

  22. Brandon Says:

Licht is fine. He’s made ONE mistake. Really. A kicker in round 2. Just no, not ever. Noah Spence in round 2… for those that don’t follow the draft or much of anything, Spence in round 2 was considered a steal. The fact that he didn’t develop is on him. He HAD first round talent. The terrible coaching he received didn’t help but him being a bust when he was universally considered a mid to late first rounder, is all on Spence.
